Old Ones of Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40,000 were major actors in the deep backstory of both worlds. There is some debate about whether they are actually the same people in each, and these theories are explored in the Warhammer Meta-Setting article.

Warhammer Fantasy
In Warhammer Fantasy Battle, the Old Ones are psychic frog-men from beyond the stars (big silver space-ships are mentioned even in the latest main rulebooks).
Knowing Chaos would one day appear in this reality and attempt to consume it (how they knew is unspecified) they decided to create a race of beings capable of keeping Chaos at bay forever, or even beat them (we don't know how ambitious they were). They reshaped the world, during which they created the Lizardmen races to aid them. The Slann were simply less intelligent reproductions of themselves, the Saurus were their bodyguards and had very few thoughts in their head other than whatever their current task is and the general calm reverence of the Slann and Old Ones (so born Space Marines), and the Skinks as the tiny frantic servants to the Slann. Requiring more magical power, they established Realm Gates at the north and south poles of the world, through which they were able to travel freely between the world and wherever they came from. They also siphoned pure (AKA formless raw potential, pre-Chaos God alignment) Chaos magic into the world in order to protect the world from Chaos, which worked exactly as well as you'd imagine. They made peace with the local natural intelligent life, the dragons, and educated them as best they could. This knowledge would later pass onto the first created race of the Old Ones as the two races would become BFFs. Old Ones noticed the presence of greenskins around this time, the Old Ones brought to the world unknowingly in the form of spores which grew up to be the greenskins. They tasked the slow-reproducing Lizardmen with wiping them out, again with predictable results.

First, they created Elves. They shaped a continent called Ulthuan which actually floats above the ocean like a giant ship for them to dwell on, and instructed the Slann to teach the earliest of them magic (it's unknown if the Elven gods were formed by the Slann or Old Ones, or if they came later out of belief; evidence supports the former as Isha is the mother of all mortal elves with Kurnous and as such the gods may have been proto-elves). As they surveyed the Elven race, they decided the Elves could not beat Chaos alone due to being frail and having a low birth rate despite potential for mastery of magic and a VERY strong resistance to the Warp.

Next, Dwarfs were created. The Dwarfs actually resisted magic innately and in their presence it shifts back into formless current and seeps back into the Warp. The Dwarfs were hardy, and could physically bully magic into doing what they wanted it to (hence becoming great smiths of magic weapons free from Chaos taint using runes). However, the Dwarfs were stubborn and would not adapt fast enough in the face of demon trickery. The Old Ones abandoned yet another of their creations.

The next race created was humanity (<s>in the heart of Africa</s> in the fertile crescent, which wraps around the South Eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and a little inland at Syria and Iraq), which combined the magical aptitude of the elves (to a lesser degree) with the durability of the dwarves (to a lesser degree). Humanity's short lifespan with rapid reproduction along with ambition and lust not seen in their elder races combined would enable humans to have time to adapt and overcome anything Chaos could send at them. But humanity was too malleable. While the great ambition and adaptability could be a great strength against Chaos, it also made them more susceptible to the influence of Chaos than elves or dwarfs (as proven later when humans - including Beastmen - make up the majority of Chaos' forces).

The Old Ones created Halflings next, although nobody really knows why. They were resistant to mutation but that's about it. Small, frail, cowardly and unassuming, they were an abysmal failure as Halflings aren't really good at much other than cooking and eating. In a way they were the proto-Ogres.

Various other races were created, more or less filling the gap of both anything added to the game down the road as well as anything fans can come up with. The sky titans were one such race, having the magical aptitude and intelligence of Elves, and the durability of the Dwarfs. However, they were too isolated and too solitary, and were likely just an artistic project. There may have been others, but it is likely that many of these proto-races were wiped out by the Lizardmen or if too much of a failure by the Old Ones themselves, with only the most "stable" being allowed to exist (men, elves, dwarfs).

Finally, the Ogres were created by combining the best aspects of Man, Elf, Dwarf and Halfling. They were highly resistant to Chaos yet still possessing magical talent, having a long lifespan like elves, with a fast reproduction rate they'd be able to outlast Chaos, being highly durable, being able to cooperate with just about any race and quickly adapt to their customs, and finally stubborn enough to not fall to Chaos willingly in most cases. In addition to this, they are able to survive on just about any food, from meat to tree trunks to rocks. Their only drawback was their enormous appetites. As the Old Ones prepared to educate their newest masterpieces, endow them with gifts and try to fix that kink, the Warp Gates collapsed and Chaos entered the world. The Ogres, left with a growing population in a relatively stable environment, were not gifted with any taught culture. As a result, despite being fairly intelligent creatures on par with dwarves, elves or humans, the ogres were not unified, and had to grow as a natural race, unaware of and unwilling to engage in the purpose they were designed for. They thus became tribes of increasing size which spread out across the world and served every faction (including Chaos and its servants) as mercenaries.

Why the Old Ones never looked at their failed creations and thought about putting them together in a lizardmen-style caste system is unknown. Dwarfs as the industrialists, artillery and infantry, Elves as artisans, scholars, cavalry, archers and mages, Ogres as the shock troops and heavy lifters, halflings as cooks, and humans to fill in anywhere they were needed and provide individual great heroes would have worked out perfectly.

Instead, Chaos ran amok as the Four and their allies got off their collective asses, gained followers and physical influence in the world, and started fucking shit up. It's worth noting there's a subtle disconnect from 40K in that Chaos and the Old Ones were there all along, <s>as Fantasy Chaos has no Genesis</s> true, kinda, but there's less metaphysical difference between the two settings than at first glance because, you know, warpfuckery; different worlds, same warp, so a few of the rules are different (what rules? It's the fucking warp), same Gods, too. As for the "emergence of the Gods" in 40K, they do coalesce psychically but also aren't bound by the rules of time (cf. the 40K Old Ones were against Chaos way before any of them were said to be "born"; and though Slaanesh is the edgy youngster "born" fairly recently it has been stated canonically to have influenced events before the Fall of the Eldar in 40K; it's probably the same for the others--imagine the time Tzeentch is having.) The exact nature of the Old Ones, the gods, and how the world got to where it is now is a subject of endless debate and conjecture among fans.

It's unknown what happened to the Old Ones. It's possible that they fell into the Warp and were consumed. It's possible they fled the world, leaving it to its fate as they tried again elsewhere. It's also possible they remain in hiding, either guiding the mortal races to grow in strength and thwart Chaos or watching as their master plan unfolds leading to true victory. Either way, they're gone.

Lizardmen began worshiping the Old Ones as gods, with Slann pondering the messages left by their masters on golden tablets (which is apparently how all Old One communications were relayed, just like the Mormons) to the smallest detail, and acted on interpretation. At times this has resulted in counter-productive things like an attempt at world recreation which caused most of the Dwarf race to die and greenskins take over their fortresses and breed in numbers never before seen. At other times great things have happened according to plan, such as when they have prepared for and beheld the coming of a god prophesied by the Old Ones, who immediately consumed the minions of a rogue Greater Daemon/minor Chaos God and drove him from the material plane.

At some point, one of the resident non-Chaos villains learned the words the Old Ones used to shape the world. With it (at GREAT physical and spiritual taxation of himself) he reduced fortresses the size of modern cities into atoms.

In older canon, the Old Ones did not create or predate the other races (in fact, one old lich mentions remembering the coming of the Old Ones with disdain as something that came long after his first death). Instead they were simply space travelers, and the Slann were their retarded and decadent inbred descendants.

The end times revealed that this warhammer world was not the first, but just one in an eternal cycle. While men, elves and dwarfs all seem to fit in with this cycle, the old ones do not. It has been suggested that the Old ones were actually the surviving slann from the last world, and that the slann who managed to escape the destruction of the warhammer world will return to the next one as the new old ones.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Now it is currently unknown who reshaped the world, but if what was told above is true, then the old slanns became the new Old Ones, deciding to reshape the world as 8 different realms made out of the Old World's winds of Magic, though all of the above has not been confirmed yet, what we do know is that the old ones did create the realmgates, portal to and from different realms, allowing connection and travel to other worlds , and presumably also created the allpoints, a mini-realm that acts as as a hub-world to access all other realms, which is right now in Archaon's possession... oops.

Also this would mean that technically, Lord Kroak is an Old One now, which makes sense given how stupid powerful he is.

Warhammer 40,000
In Warhammer 40,000, the Old Ones were a race or group of races that were among the very first intelligent races in the galaxy, if not the first (heavily implied to be so.) Usually, they are referred to as a single, specific race. However, Codex: Eldar 4th Edition, as well as some of the Deathwatch supplements, claim that they were actually a group of the earliest races, who all worked together, which, given that Chaos (such as it was back then) was anathema to him, makes us think of another "rainbow coalition" many millions of years later.

They were incredibly potent psykers (especially since the Warp was an actual afterlife back then), had access to the Webway (if they didn't build it themselves, which they most likely did. Then they certainly discovered and expanded it), and had supremely advanced genetic engineering techniques. They created the Khrork (prehistoric Orks, kind of like how dinosaurs are prehistoric birds, but with less genetic deviation), Laer (which they would probably deeply hate if they knew what the laer had become), Jokaero (showing that they have a sense of humor), the Hrud, the Rashan, the K'nib, the Eldar (maybe) and many others; some of these were created solely as warrior-races, whereas many were created merely as part of planetary ecosystems, or maybe just for shits and giggles. They also “uplifted” ( in that they already existed but we’re still relatively primitive so the old ones made them smarter and probably gave them fire .)the Eldar (if they didn’t create them outright), and the Necrontyr (but since the Necrontyr met the Old Ones for the first time much later, this claim is unlikely). Because they believe that they could one day achieve the same greatness they did… Good God how they were wrong (ironically a lost cause like the poor frail humans are destined to become New Man like the Emperor, far beyond mere Old Ones seeing as his blows during the duel with Horus could have destroyed planets according to the story), (More on that later). The Old Ones were immortal (due to evolving so damn hard that they became energy beings), a gift they seem to have given in some form to only some of their creations; and also, and of great importance, these races had souls, which gave them presence in the Warp, where the Old Ones were getting up to their own stuff in as well. This eventually of course lead to the warp becoming the fucked up place it is "today," but all because of a lot of drama with the lesser races. The Old Ones didn't intend (or did they?) for it to get that way because, being a race of Energy beings (at this point), it was more or less their home for all intents and purposes.

The Eldar in particular were one of the first races the old ones uplifted (or created, fluff varies), and due to their absurd reproductive capabilities (basically space rabbits) Were both technologically on par with the old ones, and the most populous race in the galaxy after only a few centuries.

It's basically impossible to talk what went down next without talking about what happened with the Necrontyr. The Necrontyr had grown up beneath a wretched sun that poured radiation upon them (this radiation may in fact have been Star Vampire shit or merely attracted them, more on them in a bit), so their lives were, without exception, incredibly short (although it's not clear how short)(Trazyn mentions that the average human lifetime is only slightly longer than the Necrontyr’s were. This being 40k, it’s still not entirely clear). Nevertheless, they managed to scrape together a small interstellar empire, with different star systems ruled by different dynasties. However, with the First War of Secession, the empire fell into infighting, as the dynasties violently jockeyed for power.

The Triarch decided a war was just what the doctor ordered to keep the Necrontyr together, and so declared war on the Old Ones, claiming the casus belli of "you didn't share immortality with us poor, pitiful, mortal creatures." Though lore also says they just wanted medical help so they wouldn’t be in constant pain. The Old Ones refused. This was, as would be expected, a popular cause, and started the so-called War in Heaven. Why some races were gifted with immortality and others not is unclear, but is probably down to what their particular purpose was (one tenuous but curious connection between the Old Ones and the Cabal alluded to above is that the Cabal can apparently create Perpetuals. If there is a connection, and there are some other hints as well, then the Cabal is the Old Ones, or some vestige of a coalition of immortals appointed by them, trying to unfuck the fuckery that they fucked up the fucking warp with by screwing over the only being Chaos is genuinely so scared shitless of they cannot even say his mere title without agony and so just call him “The Anathema”.)

Anyhow, back to the War in Heaven. Despite having much greater numbers and mastery of conventional technology which matched or even exceeded that held by the Old Ones, the Necrontyr did not have access to the Webway, and so were constantly outmaneuvered (even though they could teleport across interstellar distances and build portals...so just suspend your disbelief at the out-maneuvering bit). Soon, the Necrontyr were scattered and left with only a few coreworlds to the galactic north. With the War in Heaven collapsing, the Second War of Secession began, and the Necrontyr began to tear themselves apart again.

Before Necrontyr society collapsed entirely, however, the Necrontyr discovered the C'tan, the Star Gods, leaching on some of their stars. The Necrontyr made metallic bodies for the C'tan, which barely contained their incredible power, as they were basically material universe's equivalent to the Chaos Gods.

The C'tan known as the Messenger (later the Deceiver) offered the Necrontyr a solution: living metal bodies that were nearly indestructible, in exchange for their service to the C'tan. The Necrontyr accepted, only for them to realize too late that their new bodies required the destruction of their souls and their enslavement to the C'tan. For some reason, the Necrontyr were also renamed the Necrons at this point. One of the C'tan, known as the "Burning One," also helped the newly-robotic Necrons enter the Webway using the Dolmen Gates. With the field leveled, the Necrons were now able to take the fight to the Old Ones.

At this point, the Old Ones created many of the aforementioned warrior races, especially the Krork, but even these couldn't stop the Necrons. The wild misuse of the Warp had also spawned the Enslavers (or, at least, let them enter the material universe), obliterating many of the Old Ones. The birth of Chaos caused by the corruption of the Warp by the dying emanations of countless warrior races probably didn't help either, to say the least. Incidentally, this also means that the current state of Grimdark in the galaxy is all their fault. With the Old Ones thus weakened, the Necrons and their C'tan allies were able to annihilate the rest of them, at least according to Codex: Necrons 5th Edition. After that, the eldar discovered that by using the webway could create constructs capable of housing the dead, and damage the C’tan. the Necrons exploited the weakened state of the C'tan and turned on their masters; while they were successful in breaking them into countless "shards" of their former power and permanently killed at least one, they feared the retaliation of the Eldar and the other surviving warrior races and went into hibernation until they were ready to rebuild their empire. Ironically they might have been able to play things off as them having been enslaved and blame the war on the C’tan. Especially after they shattered the C’tan.

Although most races aren't aware of their Old Ones heritage, they still made a great impact on the nascent races. In particular, at least according to Xenology, many races, including the Eldar, have very similar gods, including a bloody-handed warrior, a great smith, a life-giving goddess of the harvest, a laughing god, etc. It seems that these gods were inspired by the Old Ones, <s>although whether they're based on particular Old Ones or just general concepts of what they did is uncertain</s>. It was mostly conceptual though since the eldar and old ones were contemporaries by this point. If you read the examples of gods above and thought by yourself: "Haven't I heard of this in real ancient religions at some point?", and if you can then connect that revelation to The Emperor, congratulations - you know basic mythology.

Also, in Hrud mythology (again, according to Xenology), there's one last Old One named Qah that only left 500,000 years ago (i.e., long after the Necrons entered hibernation), promising to return when the Hrud reunite to fight the C'tan again. This would imply that, in fact, the Old Ones were not destroyed entirely by the Necrons, and a few hid or escaped. While this was presumed retconned for a long time, recent fluff has noted that Eldrad has predicted the impending return of the "Old Masters" and the newly discovered seventh Blackstone Fortress's pristine state suggests they may indeed still live. You can proceed with theorycrafting over whether they made a deal with the Emperor and/or some of the Eldar to fix shit up.

The idea that some of the Old Ones survived is also found in Grot folk tales. So goes the story, the last of the "Brain Boyz" (Ork term for the Old Ones) hid among the Krorks in the last years of the War in Heaven. But slowly, the Old Ones devolved into the servants of their former slaves. And being enslaved made them degrade further and further, until today they exist only as the Snotlings, those extra tiny Grots that can just about hold a box of tools without forgetting to breathe and keeling over. The Orks have heard of these folk tales, and get a good chuckle out of it; the story could be completely true for all they care, which is not at all.

Connections
In very early editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40,000 (i.e. when the former was still called "Warhammer" because it was the only Warhammer, and when the latter was still called Rogue Trader), it was implied that the two universes were very closely linked, if not one and the same. Now, not so much; but the warpish links discussed above, while obscure and speculative, are probably still true. Chaos warbands in Fantasy could get their hands on bolters and powered armor, and Beastmen and Space Dwarfs (called Squats) were regular parts of Imperial and Chaos armies in 40K. The Old Ones were described as coming from space even in the 8th edition Fantasy rulebook, and the 3rd edition Necron codex suggested using Lizardmen minifigures to represent their descendants.
The Silent King is the ruler of all Necrons, though in the 41st millennium his influence is starting to dwindle. Back when the Necrons were still the Necrontyr, it was a hereditary position occupied by the ruling member of the Triarch (which was itself composed of three Phaerons of powerful Dynasties). The name was derived from the tradition that the Silent King never spoke to his subjects, instead letting the other two Phaerons speak for him. The last Silent King, and the only one who's playable or fleshed-out (heh heh), is Szarekh.
The big S.K. was intended to be a background "ghost" character; to reinforce this, GeeDubs deliberately withheld giving him his own model and rules for four entire editions...

The last Silent King was named Szarekh, and it was he who sealed the pact with the C'tan in order to gain their power to fight against the Old Ones. Unfortunately for the Necrontyr, there was a catch: the bio-transference process that upgraded them into the metallic, immortal Necrons had the side-effect of stripping them of their souls and, for the most part, their free wills. The Silent King was placed in charge of the entirety of the Necron race, while the delicious souls went to the C'tan.

Szarekh was not happy about this (though he wasn't precisely angry either, given the loss of his soul), but he had no leverage to fight the C'tan -- what they had given, they could easily take away, and then some. Therefore, he fought the War in Heaven alongside the C'tan, and waited until the very moment of victory, when the C'tan were nearly spent, and turned on them with every warrior and weapon at his disposal, shattering the star-gods and binding the fragments that remained.

The War in Heaven left the galaxy a mess, and Szarekh decided that most of it was his fault, so he commanded the legions to rest in their Tomb Worlds to let the galaxy heal for the next sixty million years, relinquished control of the Necron nobles, and exiled himself from the galaxy in his flagship, the Song of Oblivion. His last instruction was to rebuild the Necrontyr Empire and return to flesh bodies, though how this happened was left up to any Phaerons who could make it happen. Szarekh then left for the intergalactic void, vowing to never return to the Milky Way...

...which lasted right up until he found out what was in the void: the Tyranids. When he encountered the vanguard of Hive Fleet Behemoth, he NOPE'd right back home, getting in touch with the remaining Praetorians to awaken every Tomb World still standing and unite against the swarm. The space-vermin might not be a threat to the the Necrons themselves, but they were certainly a threat to their stuff, like, you know, the galaxy, which they regard as theirs -- after all, if the Tyranids ate everything, there would be no bodies to return to, and nothing to rule over! The Silent King so disliked this possibility that he allied with the Blood Angels to fight off a Tyranid landing force, and even let them go on their way when the fighting was over.

He's back with the reveal of 9E. His new model even has a retinue, not unlike another influential bone-daddy and he even has a C'tan shard with him. His stands on top his personal pimp throne looking totes SWAG. It does NOT look happy with its current living conditions (It probably doesn't help that its heavily hinted that Szarekh is currently wearing its flayed skin as his cape). His return is to gather his peers up to help seal up the rift, in which way would also destroy all living things.

Speculation
During the Alliance negotiations with Dante, the Silent King mentioned a similar conversation with their Primarch, Sanguinius. This would mean that Szarekh had already returned 10,000 years before the 1st Tyrannic War and one of the Primarchs was aware of the Tyranid threat. Common sense dictates that this happened just before it all went to shit and all the humans involved got killed (or sat on the Golden Throne) before spreading the alarm. He was also wearing a BA death mask like mask.

Either that or he lied with help from his High Chronomancer. Just as planned.

Szarekh: hero or villain?
Szarekh is one of the most interesting head figures in Warhammer 40k. Morally he is a very complex character. Whereas other heads of factions could be qualified as good people in terrible situations, such as Guilliman or Farsight, while others are definitely just evil people doing evil for the evulz, such as Vect or Abaddon. Szarekh is in a weird spot that leaves much of his morality up for interpretation depending on how you see his actions.

Szarekh's actions have both been tremendously evil, such as what he did to his own people turning them into Necrons and how he disregarded Orikan's warnings that the deal carried a huge cost the C'tan didn't mention, but also tremendously good, such as killing the C'tan and freeing his people from his own grip (like a certain someone also said he would do once humanity had evolved enough). Not only did he forsake power, but also out of guilt he left the galaxy. This does show some character development, more than most 40k characters get.

There is an important fact to remember, if necrontyr lifespan is anything to go by, he did not start the War in Heaven, he inherited it after untold generations of war when the necrontyr were basically in their last leg, when you consider this you find the bargain he did with the C'tan looks more like the last desperate gamble of a hard pressed monarch attempting to save his kin from total annihilation than your average Chaos worshipping noble who is just in to get more power. He got a very hard hand to play and he did as best as he could given the circumstances and unlike, say, the Emperor or Guilliman, he didn't have psychic powers, a decent starting point or even a gene-enhanced body to tank with all the stress and hardship, in a few more years he and everyone he knew and cared for was going to get consumed by cancer, or were already in the process of dying, so, from his point of view it may have been a no brainer.

Then we don't know what he had been doing for 60 million years, it should be interesting to know what other galaxies think about the Silent King.

We do know that Szarekh came back, not just to save his people from the Tyranids, but to save most of the sentient life in the galaxy. And here is where motivation becomes extremely important to know where Szarekh lies within the moral spectrum. However, there is more. Among the Necrons, there is no record or memory of Szarekh's history other than him being in charge and the deal with the C'tan. How he ruled, where he came from, and more is unknown to everyone save Szarekh himself and maybe the C'tan. Worse, anytime the Necrons think about these things, their minds are pushed elsewhere, as if something is deliberately blocking them from questioning Szarekh. When he meets Necrons, they join him right away. While it's hinted this is due to his power and rank (backed by the Triarch Praetorians), there are hints of more direct methods of control.

Despite this, there is his stance on the other races. You see the official reason why the Necrons are trying to save other sentient species from the Nids and the Great Beast is supposedly to later see if it is possible to make some reverse biotransference, which should mean Szarekh's desire to save other races is fueled out of selfish motives.

But the Indomitus book offers a different possibility for the motivation within the Silent King's attempt to save other sentient species. The plasmancer says that Szarekh ordered his Nemesors to try to preserve human life if possible in order to "use them as labor" in case biotransference is not possible. Now think about it, using humans as labor is a terrible idea if you are a Necron. Necrons have drones in droves to do manual labor, so autonomous humans who need amenities and extensively processed biomatter are useless as a workforce to them. Plus, given the Necrons' lack of need for amenities or physical comforts, there is much less need for goods or services. Yet Szarekh insists on telling the Necrons to preserve the life of these meatbags for two ultimately futile endeavors.

What if he is actually just trying to convince overlords to not kill sentient species by using these two motives as excuses to justify such an order?

Szarekh has clearly done horrible things, but it is entirely possible that he is trying to redeem himself for his actions, both towards his people and towards the galaxy. Or he is a lighter shade of grey, not-so-Grimdark imperialist who just wants to rule over as many diverse subjects as possible without being a murderous dick. Clearly the morality of Szarekh requires a lot more study within the black library, after all we don't see many great redemption arcs in Warhammer 40k, and Szarekh can provide us with one. Or not, since his way of sealing the rift would destroy all living beings.

9th Edition Crunch
With the reveal of 9th edition, Szarekh has his own model, and a butt-ton of rules to come with it. Seriously, this guy has around 15 abilities. His unit is composed of himself and two Triarchal Menhirs. Starting with the Menhirs- let's go! There are two Menhirs, and while they live, Szarekh is immune to damage and does not count as a Character for the Look Out, Sir rule. They have one weapon, a big, viridian beam of rape. The Annihilator Beam is a Heavy 1, R36", S12, AP-4, D6 weapon, and any tanky model hit by one is gonna feel the pain. Of course, it is possible to roll a 1 (the Menhirs have BS 2+, but they are not Core units- meaning abilities like My Will Be Done or Szarekh's Phaeron of the Stars will not affect them) and have the aforementioned rape-beam just not work. Assuming they do work, and they will most of the time, this is 6 damage per hit. Aside from this, they have 5 wounds each, they consistently move 8", they have 4++ AND 5+++ saves (NOTE: Where do you see a 5+++? This unit is a Dynastic Agent, so it doesn't get the Szarekhan code benefits), and as stated before, while they live, all incoming damage must be allocated to them. According to new GW fluff, the Menhirs are not piloted by the other Phaerons of the Triarch- those guys are actually standing on either side of the Silent King himself (they are standing on either side of the Dais of Dominion.)

Now for the big guy himself (or more accurately, his Dais. No Necron has 16 wounds, only vehicles would be that tanky. As it happens, the Dais is a vehicle.). He has a damage table, as is common for superheavies and Lords of War. The table only affects the Move characteristic, though. He starts with 8", which degrades to 6", then 4" as his wounds drop. He has three different weapons- the Sceptre of Eternal Glory (which can shoot and strike), the Staff of Stars (this is what an autopistol is to an Exitus Rifle- more shots, but they suck), a ranged and melee weapon, and finally, the Scythe of Dust, a melee-only weapon. But, now I think about it...imagine Szarekh just slinging his scythe like a boomerang or glaive. But I digress. The Sceptre, when shooting, is an R24", Assault 3, S8, AP-3, D2 weapon. Nothing special there. The Staff is R24", Assault 9, S6, AP-2, D1. In melee, the Sceptre and Scythe really shine. The Sceptre is S+4, AP-4, D2, and will always use all of Szarekh's 6 attacks. Why? Because the Scythe and Staff have some special and very nasty abilities. The Scythe is S+3, AP-4, D3, but here's the thing- it makes 4 additional attacks, but it has a hard cap of 4 attacks per Fight phase. Oh yes, I can smell the feta and brie from across the fucking Tomb World. In much the same way (but literally all of its stats are worse compared to its cousins), the Staff of Stars can fight in melee too, but this really only helps against things like Guardsmen, Grots, Boyz, and some Lesser Daemons. It's Sx1 (S is equal to Szarekh's, hence S times 1), AP-2, D1, and will add three attacks like the Scythe does.

Now time for the abilities.

Szarekh's abilities, in a somewhat simplified manner, are as follows:

*Noctilith Beacons: Szarekh, in the enemy Psychic phase, can attempt a Deny the Witch test as if he were a psyker.
*Obeisance Generators: Enemy units within Engagement Range of Szarekh will always fight last. No exceptions.
*Phaeron of the Stars: Friendly Core units within 6" of Szarekh can reroll to hit when shooting.
*Phaeron of the Blades: Friendly Core units within 6" of Szarekh can reroll to wound when in melee.
*Relentless March: Friendly Core units within 6" of Szarekh can move 1" further than normal.
*My Will Be Done: The classic ability given to Nobles. Gives a Core unit within 6" of the caster +1 to hit.
*Phaeron: What would Szarekh be if he wasn't a Phaeron? Allows him to cast My Will Be Done twice per turn.
*Voice of the Triarch: Once per battle, Szarekh can swap the active command protocol out for another. Remember, one use only. Use with caution.
*Triarchal Menhir: While any menhirs live, Szarekh is immune to damage, does not count as a character for Look Out, Sir, and if Szarekh does fall, any Menhirs still (somehow) alive die with him.
*The Silent King: Szarekh, if selected to be in your army, must be your Warlord. If he is your Warlord, gain 3 CPs. (This rule does not apply to Unbound armies.)
*Transtemporal Force Field: Gives Szarekh and his Menhirs a 4++ save.
*Preservative Auto-Torpor: When Szarekh drops to 8 wounds, he drops his Staff and loses Phaeron of the Stars. When he hits 4 wounds, his aptly-named Scythe of Dust turns to dust, destroying it and his Phaeron of the Blades ability.
*Vengeance of the Enchained: When Szarekh falls, roll d6. On a 4+ he explodes, making everyone within 2d6" of the fallen King eat d6 mortal wounds.

Jeez. That's a lot of abilities. Assuming Szarekh lives long enough to really start shooting, his foes are really gonna need to grab the nearest d100 and roll it. And all this for the cost of $120 to buy it, and 450 points to include it. And you get the three CPs.

And as of Dataslate Q3 2022 he is now CORE, so he can use his abilities on himself, yes, GeeDubs stated they did it on purpose. Szarekh has become arguably the best unit in 40k. Step!

Fanmade Rules
The above rules are great, but I have alternate rules- the official crunch is now for “The Silent King on Dais of Dominion”. He can, in this homebrew ruleset, be taken off the Dais, for a different role- rather than being more of a front line unit, this ruleset makes him and his entourage more of a buff-machine, but it can still hold its own in combat.

Szarekh is equipped with: Sceptre of Eternal Glory. Hapthatra the Radiant is equipped with: Staff of Stars. Mesophet the Shadowed Hand is equipped with: Scythe of Dust. The Triarchal Menhir is equipped with: annihilator beam. Your army can only include one of this unit.
Abilities (Szarekh)
*Living Metal, Command Protocols

*Noctilith Ankhs- Szarekh may attempt to deny one psychic power in each of your opponent's psychic phases as if he were a psyker.

*My Will be Done- In your Command Phase, you may choose a friendly NECRONS CORE or TRIARCH unit within 6" of Szarekh. That unit gets +1 to hit until your next Command Phase.

*Phaeron- Szarekh may cast My Will be Done twice a turn.

*Phase Shifter- Szarekh has a 4+ invulnerable save.

*The Triarch's Will- When selecting your command protocols, you may choose one protocol to be active for two battle rounds.

*Voice of the Triarch- Szarekh, once per battle, may swap out your active command protocol. If he does this, then during either player's Command Phase, choose an inactive command protocol- this protocol becomes active until the end of the battle round.

Abilities (Hapthatra)
*Living Metal, Command Protocols, Dimensional Translocation

*Phaeron of the Stars- Friendly NECRONS CORE units within 6" of Hapthatra may reroll failed hit rolls while shooting.

*Radiant Shield- This model has a 4+ invulnerable save. In addition, whenever this model loses a wound, roll a d6- on a 6 that wound is ignored.

*Radiant Movement- If this model advances, treat any roll of 1 or 2 as 3 instead. In addition, this model may shoot and charge in a turn in which it advanced.

*The Triarch Awakens- Unit coherency for this model is 6". In addition, this model may leave unit coherency, but while it is outside of 6", it gains the CHARACTER keyword, but can benefit from Look Out, Sir.

Abilities (Mesophet)
*Living Metal, Command Protocols, Dimensional Translocation

*Phaeron of the Blades- Friendly NECRONS CORE units within 6" of Mesophet may reroll failed wound rolls in melee.

*Shadowed Shield- This model has a 4+ invulnerable save. In addition, wound rolls of 1-3 against this model always fail, regardless of any abilities the attacker may have.

*The Triarch Awakens- Unit coherency for this model is 6". In addition, this model may leave unit coherency, but while it is outside of 6", it gains the CHARACTER keyword, but can benefit from Look Out, Sir.

Abilities (Menhir)
*Living Metal

*Noctilith Construct- EnemyPSYKERs suffer Perils of the Warp on any roll that includes doubles, instead of just double 1 or 6.

*Guardian Construct- This model must remain within 2" of Szarekh, but while it does so, enemy models may not target him with ranged weapons.

*Explodes- If this model is destroyed, roll a d6- on a 6 this model explodes, and every unit within 3" takes one mortal wound.

Old Ones, a term popularized by H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, is a type of entity used in fantasy games for the culture that was first on the scene in creation, before the limits of recorded history in the current setting of the game. This culture is always described as awesomely powerful, responsible for shaping entire landscapes, sinking continents beneath the waves, or giving birth to new races An important feature of a race of Old Ones is they aren't around anymore -- or if they are, it's in some degenerate form (reduced to stone-age beasts, or secluded colony hiding from the world, or one sleeping god-like individual).

"Precursors" is the sci-fi version of the term, but doesn't carry as much inherent connotation of malevolence, though it's still very possible (think Pacific Rim…or halo, if you know).

Call of Cthulhu
There were many "Old Ones" in the Cthulhu Mythos, and thus the Call of Cthulhu RPG. It's most commonly used to refer to one of the following two:

The Great Old Ones were alien beings of colossal size, and not exactly normal physics. All the Great Old Ones have been slain or imprisoned by Elder Gods, some entombed in planets like Earth. Some theorize that the Great Old Ones are imprisoned for the crime of practicing blasphemous black magic, and the Great Old Ones are just waiting to break out and avenge themselves. Others theorize the Great Old Ones submitted willingly to imprisonment, as a way to sleep away the aeons "until the stars are right" and they can resume their awful practices.

The race of Old Ones (or Elder Things) were extraterrestrials that traveled between the stars, and set up a colony on primordial Earth. They built a city on the southern polar continent and experimented with the local biology to create a servant caste. Their discards were tossed to the other continents (<strike>the Cambrian Explosion?</strike> <strike>The Cambrian Explosion pre-dated life on land.</strike>The Elder Things, when they spanned the globe, set up cities both underwater and on land, so, entirely possible.) and settled on their ideal lowest-class citizens: the Shoggoths, amorphous blobs of eyes and toothy mouths. The Shoggoths formed a rebellion and overthrew their masters, killing almost every single one because the Elder Things held them in thrall with hypnosis for over 2 billion years.

Exalted
In the time before time the Primordials wrenched a world from the bleeding edge of chaos and peopled it with gods, men, Dragon Kings, the People of Adamant, the Lintha, and more.

Then the gods and humans joined forces and made war on the Primordials, killing many of their number and trapping the rest in the body of their king, which had been turned inside-out, and cast them out beyond the confines of this world.

In the brass-and-bone depths of the Demon City, their demonic progeny turn wretched eyes our way, ever watchful for a crack to appear in their prison. Meanwhile, the slain titans have formed a dark mirror of our world, save that at its center is a twisted labyrinth of their congealed nightmares, and at the center of *that* is the concept of oblivion made manifest, above which hang their dead-but-dreaming tomb-bodies.

Forgotten Realms
Long long time ago, a lizardman type race had a huge empire that enslaved all the "warmbloods." It was probably the Sarrukh, mentioned in the Serpent Kingdoms splatbook. They're supposed to be extinct now, but it would make a decent BBEG.
The Story of the first Neverwinter Nights video game explored this but made it all very confusing and disappointing.

Traveller
The old-ones in Traveller are called the "Ancients," and their sites can be found in any random place. The architecture can vary wildly, from habitrail tunnels hermetically sealed and protected from a benign environment, to hollowed-out crystals hundreds of feet high with no ladders or stairs. None of the sites have any documentation, many of them expect visitors to be able to fly or use telepathy, and all of them are empty and inert... except maybe whatever one your adventurers carelessly step into . Each Ancient site predates the literacy of every civilization, and doesn't seem to have anything in common with other Ancient sites other than being built for inhabitants that are 1-2 metres tall. Ancient sites make for good dungeon romps in what is otherwise a hard sci-fi campaign about making mortgage payments on your spaceship.

The Ancients also explain why there's so many humans in space. The first great human empire was the Vilani empire, built by the humans that first discovered faster-than-light travel. They were pretty surprised to find out there were other aliens around; even more surprised when they encountered another FTL space-faring empire of humans called the 'Zhodani.' Scientists concluded sure that the two-arms & two-legs body shape was just naturally better for most environments, and stopped being surprised that everyone was "humanoid" shaped. This all went to shit when a third race of humans showed up with FTL drive, calling themselves the 'men of Sol' ("Solomani" in Vilani), and it turned out that they came from a world where the entire ecosystem was integrated, not evolving in parallel like everywhere else. Vilani scientists were certain this was a sign that the Solomani were an engineered race of humans made by the Ancients, what with everything fitting together like clockwork. Instead, they discovered the opposite: the undeniable conclusion that Zhodani humans, Vilani humans, and all the other humans from minor races were "seeded" from Sol-3 and transplanted to every other world by the Ancients. Even the biology of the lupine Vargyr major race were seeded from this 'Earth' world. This gives the Solomani a superiority complex that makes them pretty insufferable to be around.

This continues the trend of hard sci-fi ignoring 'hard biology'.

Warhammer
Old Ones (Warhammer)

Both Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40,000 feature major background events caused by Old Ones. There is some debate about whether they are both the same or different. In 40k: they were reptilian; battled against the Necrontyr and C'tan; used genetic engineering to create the Eldar, Humanity's ancestors (kinda, but not really since human ancestors didn’t exist back then...), and the Orks; and created the Webway. We also have them to thank for the existence of the Chaos Gods since before the War in Heaven, the Warp was known to have been a far more placid realm. Boy did that change. In short, for all intents and purposes, this effectively means that the Old Ones, Necrons, and C'tan are the progenitors of the Chaos Gods. At best, the Old Ones are equally responsible for this outcome as the other two. Though, given their penchant for warp dabbling in contrast to the absolute non-existence of the same from the Necrons and C'tan, it's perhaps more likely that the Old Ones hold a higher percentage of the blame. If nothing else, this all probably puts the Old Ones at the top of the list of architects of the greatest ever instances of Not As Planned. That's something.

In Warhammer Fantasy, they arrived to Warhammer World from space, seeing (probably) its potential in colonisation or maybe they wanted to use it as a part of their plan to stop Chaos. They, however, were pissed off by planet's climate and used their and Slann magic to literally pull the world out of Ice Age and reshape the continents when they needed it. After that they started creation (or genetical modification, it's not exactly known) of different races to battle Chaos, although they failed every time. Every major race (with exception of Orcs & Goblins and Chaos-related species like Skaven) were created by them, and even more were genocided by Old Ones' loyal servants, Lizardmen. And then, when Old Ones desperately tried to fix their latest failure, Chaos Gates collapsed, Daemons were released and they mysteriously disappeared, leaving only plaques with some of their instructions.

Warcraft
The World of Warcraft is decorated with sci-fi elements in its origin story, so it has both Precursors and Old Ones.

A race of godlike beings called Titans do the classic Precursor thing of "seed viable worlds with new life, then get bored and wander off thousands of years before any protagonists are born." They even have the cliche of one Precursor turning rebellious teenager, writing bad poetry and trying to destroy all the new life that the rest of the family worked so hard to build. The minions of the emo Titan are the demons & devils you usually see in fantasy games.

The viable world that is the setting for the Warcraft stories is extra-special, because it has four or so creatures known as the "Old Gods" that are nasty moustache-twirling villain gods with HP Lovecraft inspired names. The Titan Precursors tried to evict them so the world would be better for playing SimEarth with, but couldn't, so just imprisoned them under the planet's crust. Once the Titans left, the Old Gods fucked with the seeded life to corrupt it, even fucked with the dragons the titans created as janitors for the planet, and to fuck with everyone's heads to create cultists and generally make everyone miserable.

Trazyn the Infinite, also known as Trollzyn the Tarpit Breaker and Trazyn the Grave Robber, or Possibly Trazyn the shiny Stealer, is the best Necron Overlord/Phaeron (while technically his title is Overlord, he has his own Overlord subordinates and rules his own little empire like Phaeron). Basically what you'll get if you combined Doctor Doom, a Tomb King, a Bloody Magpie and the Terminator, with a hint of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Trazyn the Infinite, ruler of the Tomb World named Solemnace (which happens to be a Dyson Sphere powered by a C'tan), is a self-proclaimed preserver of histories, artifacts and events. In his possession are technologies and relics that are so valuable as to be priceless. Amongst his collection are the fabled wraithbone choir of Altansar, one of the preserved heads of Sebastian Thor, the ossified husk of an Enslaver and a suit of baroque power armour, complete with the Custodes who was still wearing it. This means that he is one of only two entities in this or any other universe that rivals the stealing power of the Blood Ravens (the other being the Deffskullz.) In such a dangerous galaxy, Trazyn is loath to go out and explore it himself, but with so many exquisite artifacts to see and catalogue, he cannot afford to miss out. As a result he will send out substitutes of himself to do his dirty work. On the battlefield this can become increasingly irritating, as killing what appears to be Trazyn may simply be a Lychguard or a Necron Lord. Meanwhile, somewhere nearby, the real Trazyn is busy smashing his way through his foes to get his metal hands on his latest acquisition.

(That's how the original fluff handled it; the crunch rules implied (and current fluff now confirms) that he either sends a proxy body as well as his real one or simply takes over the body of another Lord, Lychguard, Cryptek, or whatever else is left in the vicinity. He was there; you killed him; he just ran like the troll he is. Oh, and you didn't get Slay The Warlord by the way. <s>Just imagine this guy politely trolling with the voice of Terl from Battlefield Earth</s> he has a voice actor now via Battlefleet Gothic: Armada II, who actually sounds like a mechanical version of Terl (though he isn't voiced by John Travolta): "Oh, dear! What a wonderful contingent of Imperial Guardsmen! I shall thank you with all my heart, General, for this marvelous gift. Please tell them to strike a nice pose while I prepare a stasis grenade...")

/tg/ has gained a fondness for him, due to his thieving ways, his Doctor Doom-esque body doubles, and his polite yet trollish attitude, he is also known for using completely self-evident aliases, which nevertheless seem to work quite well. It is generally agreed that he is one of the only good things Matt Ward has ever put into the fluff.

Wait, obsessed with collecting stuff, never gets enough, is Trazyn us? NO, WE ALL ARE ALPHARI-<span style='color:green'> Oh, look at the hour, it's time to surrogate yet another body!</span>

A war-torn city in the Ultramar system. The Ultramarines, aided by an Imperial Guard regiment led by Lord Castellan Ursakar Creed, prepare to face an Ork incursion in a final battle. The Orks are numerous, but the Imperium has the upper hand, just barely, as Lord Creed's tactical genius has proven invaluable. As the Orks begin their final assault on the city, the Ultramarines ready their defenses. Creed, ever oddly silent, gazes intently at a large flagpole in the center of town, watching through binocs as the Orks' charge is funneled towards the center of the city. Suddenly, as the Orks near the square, the tip of a Baneblade's main gun can be seen coming around the flagpole. The great tank begins to emerge from behind the thin metal object, perfectly and impossibly concealed. It begins to move into its firing arc, and a great shout is heard from the Warboss down below, just barely carrying over the rest of the din. "CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-" Suddenly, the cry cuts off in confusion, as Creed spits out his cigar. Where the Baneblade once stood, there is air, thin air. Not a trace remains of the enormous tank. It has vanished completely. Then, gradually, a green, crackling, electrical rune appears hanging in the air where the Baneblade was. It extends gracefully, for its platonic geometric form. If Creed was given to poetry, he might even say it resembled a rose. But he knew better. A rage he had felt only once before began to boil deep within, and his cry shook the world as the Orkish tide began to hack his guardsmen and the Marines to pieces. "TRAAAAAAAAAAAAZYYYYYYYYN!"

From Ward Himself
"Trazyn's also no slouch in combat. Whenever his empathic obliterator kills an enemy, it has a chance to kill all other enemies of the same type in the same combat - perfect for Ork mobs. This isn't so useful against characters, but that's why Trazyn also carries a clutch of mindshackle scarabs - why kill an enemy when you can take over his mind and have him kill for you...?"oh wait nope, mss are now just a useful fear test. So now the only real use you'll find for him in a duel is whacking them with a stick.

Letter to Inquisitor Valeria
This is the (in)famous little piece of fluff that has made Trazyn so likable to /tg/, contrasting nicely with all the grim darkness around. Do note that it is unclear whether he's fucking nuts, indulging in some elaborate trolling or even both at once.

Dear Lady, let me express my fulsome appreciation for your most generous gift. It is so very rare to discover another of my own kind that appreciates my work, therefore to find understanding amongst a member of another race is nothing short of a revelation. I realise that you briefly trod my galleries, but the fact that you spotted in so short a time that my Acabrius War collection was lacking three regiments of Catachan warriors reveals that you truly have a collector's eye for detail. And to send five regiments! Such generosity will allow me to weed out and replace a few of the more substandard pieces in my collection. If I might level a minor criticism, the instructions issued to your gift were manifestly not as clear as you thought, as most of them had to be forcibly restrained. Sadly it seems that the lower orders will always behave like an army of invasion, whether that be their purpose or not. However, this is a minor complaint and seems almost churlish under the circumstances, so please allow me to repay your gift with one of my own. Accompanying this message is the Hyperstone Maze, one of a series of Tesseract Labyrinths constructed at the height of the Charnovokh Dynasty. It is a trinket really, only of interest to scholars such as you and I, but I trust you will find it amusing; assuming you have the wit to escape its clutches, of course.

It should be noted that an Inquisitor can actually use a Tesseract as a relic.

The Infinite List of Dickings
Trazyn is universally regarded as a <strike>huge dick</strike> pretty fun guy to be around due to his <strike>rampant kleptomania</strike> erudition and wit. Here is a list of his <strike>crimes</strike> many-splendored accomplishments, compiled for the <strike>warning</strike> edification of /tg/.

* Killed five invading regiments of Catachans, then turned them into miniatures for his collection.
** Sent Inquisitor Valeria fan mail (maybe, we can't tell if he was being sarcastic in the letter) attached to an armed tesseract labyrinth as a reward for "gifting" him said Catachan regiments. Being a true gentleman, when Valeria managed to unravel said tesseract labyrinth and use it 'safely', he took it with good grace and they became pen pals of sorts... But since no good deed stays unpunished, as of Fall of Cadia Trazyn has revealed that while Valeria became his human waifu for some time she eventually got BLAM'med for consorting with xenos, hence why he releases Greyfax the Angery instead of getting Valeria to tag along (Just as planned? How about Tau start summoning daemons for battle? <strike>And maybe Orks start building their own webway</strike>They already did it using superior gravitational corridors which don't need the warp during the War of the Beast.)
* Banned from the Necron throne world of Mandragora after trying to loot Imotekh's staff.
** Pops in whenever he feels like it anyway.
* Stole Sebastian Thor's head. Maybe (There's like five other museums claiming to have his skeleton; the only reason Trazyn stands out is because his Thor head is preserved in a jar, rather than a skull).
* Took the World Spirit Shrine of Carnac, an Exodite world as a trophy for helping to conquer it.
* Uses other Necron Lords as body doubles without telling them.
* Told the greatest amongst us all he was old pals with Rowboat Girlyman. Considering that one of the pokeballs he unleashed against Chaos at the Fall of Cadia was a bunch of Ultramarines fresh from the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, he might be telling the truth ("old pals" by his definition, of course).
** And then informed them that maybe he was going to take Papa Smurf, as he'd be better off with him than in the company of the Ultramarines.
*** And with Rowboat coming back, somehow, for 40k End Times, we might actually get to see how the two know each other. If they actually do. There's every possibility that Trollzyn was just lying.
* <s>Has a fucking PRIMARCH stored at his pad, supposedly... Possibly Vulkan according to White Dwarf.</s> Technically it's a Primarch clone, but it's still a perfect copy of the pre-Heresy Fulgrim, courtesy of Fabius Bile.
*Told Vulkan He'stan he had the Song of Entropy, luring the Salamanders into a 10-year war with the Necrons. At the end of it, Trazyn pretty much said "just kidding, I don't have the Song of Entropy," as he tried to steal the Spear of Vulkan. Kind of back fired when Vulkan He'stan decided to just give him the Spear. Tip first. He'stan was pretty pissed when he learned Trazyn just jumped into another body.
** Twice.

*Invaded the Imperial planet of Midgardia and nabbed a C'tan shard of Nyadra'zatha, despite Logan Grimnar's attempts to stop him. It's notable that he pulled this off in Logan's own codex supplement, where most other battles in the book were a resounding Space Wolf victory. To be fair, Space Wolves destroying (and thus accidentally freeing) a C'tan shard would make them look like an assholes. I mean even more assholes than they already are.
**In retribution, Logan hunted him down to another planet, Vhaloth IV, and ended up kicking Imotekh's ass instead. (Just As Planned. The dick deserved it for hanging on to his staff anyway.)
* Captured an Ork warboss and the Deathwatch kill team that was hunting said warboss, and sat them in front of each other in his collection for all eternity. And he double-checked they were both still self-aware, just to feel them suffer.
* Caught a bunch of tech priests evacuating from the necron invasion of Magogue, and set them up in stasis as a monument to that planet's fall. Notable because he pulled it off in the Skitarii codex. Trazyn's apparently the go-to guy for being able to win outside of his own codex.
* May or may not be the one pulling the strings behind the events of Xenology, as probably he won't have any problems impersonating a C'tan shard.
* Has been hanging out on Cadia for who knows how long as the "man of iron" which all but confirms the pylons are necrons made.
* <strike>Steals Creed himself after the fall of Cadia.</strike> Blundered into allowing Creed to infiltrate his collection. Somehow, he forgot Creed's coat, which Creed's daughter ended up claiming. Or Creed had more than one coat and that's what his daughter got.
* Steals Papa Smurfs' (The Ultramarine bloke that can't spell Robert properly) pillow from his lumber.
* Stole an Emperor's Children's gene-seed tithe ship containing thousands of progenoids.
* Traded it for the only perfect clone of Fulgrim, thus dashing the only hope of the Third Legion rebuilding itself and becoming more than a bunch of depraved sick fucks.
* Planning to add to his collection all the stuff from Battlefleet Gothic: Armada II, World Engine and Hiveships included!
** Helped the Necron player faction: Overlord Amarkun the Gatherer to retrived the Trionic Activator from The Phalanx where Trazyn unleashed a Tyranid swarm of "quite humorous extent", completely ruined The Phalanx. (might be non-canon, but worth mentioning).
* Has an agent in Middle Earth Shadow of War called the Trophy Hunter. How he got there is beyond this anon's mental capabilities
* Frees an AdMech Magos and a pair of Sororitas in the short story War in the Museum to deal with an escaped Lictor and Hive Tyrant. The Sororitas were supposed to be biological sisters frozen in their last moments fighting Tyranids, but one sister was dead and used as spare parts to fix up her surviving sister; the other Sororitas was a stand-in taken from Goge Vandire's Brides of the Emperor (the precursor of the SoB). Trazyn goes so far as to swear on his honor he will reunite them with their Lord and not put them back in the same exhibit if they accomplish their task. True to his word, he puts them in a different exhibit...facing another called 'The Beheading of Goge Vandire'. Oddly enough, Trazyn considers the magos as something of a friend and even sends the AdMech research packets on his behalf, and decided to keep the Magos in stasis with full awareness at the Magos's request. Seems he prefers to perform his computing in peace and quiet and does not mind being part of Trazyn's collection.
* Stole Gorkamorka for his Angelis display. From The Infinite and The Divine "Trukks and buggies howled corkscrews across the display, ripping across the desert shanty town built around the enormous idol of Gork – or Mork.
* Played a practical joke on Orikan the Diviner by unleashing a brood of catachan devils on his ship.
* Played another practical joke on Orikan the Diviner by unleashing a genestealer on him.
** Said genestealer survived the encounter and went on to infect and raise a cult on the planet which attacked a visiting naval battlegroup leading to the planet being exterminatused.
* Took over a Necron Deathmark’s body next to Orikan’s reanimation chamber to shoot him in the face. Out of spite for ruining his GorkaMorka exhibit.
* Stole a statue of himself that was mistaken as a Silver Skull chaplain that liberated a world from orks after the Inquisition got suspicious of its bizarre proportions. Orikan was horrified at humans glorifying his rival (and smashed the accompanying stained-glass window).
* Briefly stole control of the Regimental Standard in an attempt to trick Guardsmen into making themselves easier to collect.
* Tricked Abaddon (again) to sent his squad of Black Legion Terminators trying to steal an Eldar artefact capable of tunneling the Webway. The Terminator squad was sealed in a pocket sized Tesseract labyrinth, alongside a group of Dark Eldar raiders on a space hulk, forever fighting for the artefact. Much to Trazyn's pleasure, their moments were viewed and repeated for uncountable times, each with different results, except none of them ever reach the artefact, but at least close enough.
* Managed to scoop the lost regiments of Tanith before the planet got destroyed by Chaos. Yes, Ibram Gaunt has been sweating, bleeding and tearing to keep his Ghosts alive as the only survivors of their home planet, while Trazyn has multiple regiments of them in cold storage. What a jerk.
* Collected a Vespid warrior
* Collected a Zoat
* Collected The Swarmlord (no, we are not making this up)
* Collected a squat, yes he did it.
* Collected a solitaire, and to make it funnier it's put side by side with the squat.
* Collected a planet, again, we are not making this up, check the background of the image with Creed.
* Collected a Thunder Warrior, right next to Creed
* Collected a Spindle Drone from a Blackstone Fortress
* Collected a Clawed Fiend
* Collected an Eldar Phantom Titan
* Collected the XBox version of uno, without the XBox

Things on Trazyn's 'Must Have' List (and how to get some of them, perhaps.) (He denies having them so far, but you can never be sure without going to check...)
* A full ork WAAGH! trapped in stasis.
* Old One Eye's lost eye (Hire Bile to vatgrow it)
* Kartoth the Bloodhunger, both so he can say he won the game as well as rip holes to go back in time for more collecting.
* Abaddon. No, really, that's (one of) the reason(s) he came to Cadia in the first place: he wants to add the Warmaster of Chaos to his collection! (Last seen near Vigilus, should team up with the Ultramarines since the Planet Killer is coming there)
* Saint Celestine. (Go read The Fall of Cadia, this is not a joke! Also, not that hard, he just kill her, keeps the body while she reincarnates somewhere else)
* A lock of the Emperor's hair (Assuming it hasn't rotted away by the time he gets to Terra). (<s>Again, can be vatgrown by Bile in exchange for... something</s> Why settle for a facsimile over the real deal?)
* 2 of Grizgutz's favorite gun.
* An Ork Time Machine, originally belonging to Grizgutz.
* <s>Magnus the Red's favourite eye.</s> Magnus has agreed to provide things for his collection in exchange for being left intact
* An 8th edition Sisters of Battle codex. (done)
** An 8th edition box set of plastic sisters. Yes, he's the reason the November 2019 set sold out so early.
*Anyone atheist in Age of Sigmar, if not then a dwarf from the Kharadron Overlords will suffice.
* The Sanguinor in a stasis field.
* <s>A living Tyranid zoo (no stuffed dolls for our old collector). Would be much easier to accomplish if 'Nids didn't try to keep the fuck away from Necrons and their worlds.</s> Never mind. He gave up on this one after his specimens broke out of their exhibit and nom-med half of Solemnace. He's currently attempting to redo it on another planet near Solemnace.
* One of each type of Eldar Aspect Warrior, arranged in complementing color order.
* Each Phoenix Lord, including the fallen Ahra or Drazhar (just in case he's Ahra); bonus points for the originals. Otherwise, something from them, such as one of Asurmen's twin-linked Shuriken Catapults or a lock of Jain Zar's hair (bonus points for getting things from all of their incarnations).
* A signed autograph from each Primarch. (Still asking Orikan for "access" to his time machine so he can get one from Ferrus Manus, Horus, Sanguinius, and Konrad Curze since they're all presently busy being dead.)
* A signed autograph from each chaos god, preferably without stains or switcharoo.
* A sweet ride so he can cruise the galaxy looking for new junk.
* The Fortress of Arrogance, preferably with<s> Commissar Yarrick as well. </s> Commissar Yarrick is currently busy being dead, must approach Bile for a clone, Ghazghkull has offered a full WAAGH!! if it should help, well it wont help him
* Sammael's Jetbike.
* A Pauldron from each space marine chapter (Pre-heresy legions and post-heresy chapters all together of course, going for the complete set!)
* A Space Marine from each of the first Legions (this collection would be easily finished if not for the fact that he can't find any marines from the two missing legions).
* The two missing legions.
* Those meddling kids - and that stupid dog!
* <s>A painting of one of the Emprah, Tzeentch, Cegorach, and the Deceiver's card games.</s> Creed provided him a holovid of the game that got him banned. He is content with this. And believes that Creed should be unbanned.
* <s>A circus filled with nothing but Eldar Harlequins.</s> the circus came to me and Liberated all of my Eldar exhibits, their thievery has set me back, it will take years to restore what i have lost, i no longer desire this circus for my collection.
* The <s>school report and childhood items</s> first set of kid-sized slave shackles of Asdrubael Vect.
* Urien Rakarth's first torture kit.
* An Avatar of Khaine. He's probably killed one, given how Geedubs keeps jobbing them, but the fact that their remains melt away and reform on the Craftworld - similar to how Necrons phase out - means Trazyn hasn't gotten one yet.
* A garage filled with one of each type of the Imperial Guard's tanks.
* A Daughter of Khaine and a Khorne berzerker with Hemophobia side by side.
* A feather from Sanguinus's wings. (Dante has one in stasis)
* An Imperial Titan that has been CREEEEEEEDed.
** A snap shot of the look on Abaddon's face upon seeing aforementioned Titan in the middle of his battle line, shouting CREEEEEEEED
* Abbadon's arms. Creed hid them so well that even Trazyn is having trouble finding them.
* A matching pair of Angry Marine Powerfeet.
* A pair of a Sisters Of Battle Canoness Regulation Holy Panties from each Order, stolen from their quarters while they are asleep. Surprisingly hard to pull off (fnar fnar), even for Trazyn.
* A set of Lelith Hesperax's combat attire after she's been in a fight. This is even harder to pull off than the Sisters of Battle Canoness Regulation Holy Panties.
* One of the fingers from the Talon of Horus. (Will have to force-grip Abaddon very hard)
* Slaanesh's entire porn collection. While no planet is big enough to hold all that porn, that's what parallel dimensions are for!
* One of Ferrus Manus's hands. He isn't picky which.(Not sure if Vulkan completely destroyed it)
* An Imperial Knight from each house.
* The Panacea STC.
** And since Lady Malys got there first, anything cool she owns, as well as a selfie with her before and after she realizes he stole her stuff.
* The Eye of Horus. As in the actual Eye.(Again, Bile can make one)
* The Eye of Terror and everything in it.
* Commander Puretide and/or all of his students.
* A calm and rational World Eaters marine.
* A clean and disease-free Death Guard marine.(Hello Nathaniel Garro)
* A Emperor's Children marine who shows restraint.(Hello Saul Tarvitz, maybe already got him that's why they never found the body?)
* <s>A live and fleshy non-sorcerer Thousand Sons marine. (As of Ahriman: Unchanged, there was one of these, and as of Gathering Storm Yvraine made a dozen more before throwing them into the Warp)</s> Provided by Magnus The Red in exchange for a deck of cards
* <s>A Night Lords Marine that is actually friendly to be around.</s> Has also been provided by Magnus The Red in exchange for the same deck of cards.
* An atheist Word Bearers marine
* A certain swell guy.
** A picture with said swell guy
* Remnants of the Inquisitorial acolyte who died of old age. Ones aged by a Hrud's entropic field do not count.
* The Doomsday Clock from The Last Church.
** <s>Also Uriah himself.</s> After finding out he's a chaos worshiper he has changed his mind.
* The cure for the Red Thirst.(Hello Rubicon Primaris, maybe? More recent fluff indicates no.)
** A photo of the Blood Angels' shocked reaction when Trazyn smashes the cure in front of them. (Bonus for Dante's reaction with his mask off)
* The cure for the Curse of the Wulfen.(Hello again, Rubicon Primaris, maybe)
** A photo of the Space Wolves' shocked reaction when Trazyn smashes the cure in front of them. (Bonus of Logan Grimnar shaving his beard in shame)
* The right hands of Helbrecht, Eldorath Starbane and anyone else who had their right hands cut off by Imotekh.
* At least one Jokaero.(shouldn't be that difficult as even a Catachan team managed to got one during the Pandorax Campaign)
** And anything they make/modify.
* As many Catgirls as possible.
** Along with a selfie with each of them.
*** And as many Kitsune as possible, along with selfies and a shrine to their name.
**** You know what? Catboys too
* Any 100% reliable information about Alpha Legion.
* Any 100% reliable information about Alfa Legion.
* A recording of an Idoneth Deepkin talking in a pirate accent.
* The Blood Ravens Armoury. Since most of the above was already "gifted" to the Chapter. Not to mention there are quite a few things listed here that may be in there in the first place
* A machine to control the Warp so he can create impossible things. (Either the Golden Throne or the Tuchulcha engine may do the trick)
* A complete and unblemished cosmetic kit "gifted" by a Pretty Marines Company Captain, still with a wrapping bow attached. (Getting one each from both Loyalist and Chaos Pretty Marines Captains would be even better!)
* The very Ethereals who united the Tau race back when they were limited to only their homeworld, or their bodies... or severed heads.
* One of each type of Imperial Assassin in the position they held before trying to kill him. This wouldn't be so problematic if it wasn't for the fact that he has yet to convince the Assassinorium to send a Culexus assassin against him.
* A 1st Edition copy of the Codex Astartes with Roboute Guilliman's autograph on the dust jacket. (Guilliman probably has one)
** A 1st Edition copy of the Lectitio Divinatus with Lorgar's signature on the dust jacket to sit directly opposite the Codex. (Again Guilliman, if you are not that picky in terms of what "1st edition" means)
* A recording of Warboss Ghazghkull famous: "Wez gonna Waagh!"speech.
* A prison capable of holding Cypher, containing the man himself.
* <s>A STC detailing how to finally have enough Dakka</s>. <span style='color:green;font-size:100%'>*KRUMP* HERE...HERESESS...BLOODY 'ELL WHOTEVER DAT WORD IS YOU 'UMIES KEEP SAYIN' BEFORE Y'SHOOTS STUPIDER 'UMIES!</span>
* <s>An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from Warhammer Fantasy.</s> Done as he managed to get an STC of Steam with a Total Warhammer series warp-powered bunch of keys.
* <s>An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from Lord of the Rings.</s> (Trazyn has now accomplished this according to some writefaggotry posted on fanfiction.net. Much nerd rage shall ensue. You have been warned.)
* You.
* <s>An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from Star Wars.</s> (He has also accomplished this due to MORE Writefaggotry on Fanfiction.net.)
* An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from Star Trek (Risky, considering the technologies in Star Trek, he just might actually end up as a collectible himself or be tracked back to his home dimension).
* An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from the Mass Effect universe (<s>Doable, but risky if he ever crosses paths with the Reapers</s> Reapers are small fry compared to anything the Necrons can throw around, he'll be fine).
* A TARDIS so he can learn the name of The Doctor (Riskier than Star Trek because of the technologies involved. Also, if anyone could track Trazyn back to his home dimension and thoroughly wreck his shit it'd be The Doctor).
* An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from the Marvel Universe (main timeline).
* An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from the DC Universe (main timeline).
* An interdimensional portal device so he can collect artifacts from the Halo universe (dangerous because of Master Chief and his damn luck).
* The body of a Dwarf Slayer who died of old age.
* <s>All the NON-Grimdarkness of the 41st millennium in a bottle. So nothing in bottle then.</s> Already done.
* Temperus Maximus' Adamantium Cigar. Trazyn almost managed to loot this, but Temperus suddenly called an Orbital Strike on top of himself before this happened. Temperus' armor received minor scorch marks when the strike ended and Trazyn's body double was obliterated.
* One marine from each chapter of the cursed founding.
* A Death Korps of Krieg gas mask serial number 0000000000000000000000001.
* Names, addresses and personal phone numbers of the two unknown Primarchs.
* Cardinal Anton Fedelicus and his collected writings, which if introduced would have allowed for a very large degree of sexual freedom to have been integrated into the ecclesiarchical theology without increasing the risk of Slaaneshi corruption.
* A living Astral Knight.
* A "lucky" Lamenters marine (also count as one of the cursed founding collection).
* A working time travel device created by the Ordo Chronos (if it was ever made). The purpose for this device being -- you guessed it -- collect more artifacts from the past.
* His own body double in an alternative universe, if only he did not manage to turn into dimensional sponge in the process or lost to his alternative self in a collection contest.
* A lock of hair from each of the infamous baldraven marines.
* A "My First Assault Cannon" box set (Even better if unopened).
* A Votann, along with a posse of throughly drunk Kindred.
* A living Boneripper (plenty of chance since Thanquol is still around in Age of Sigmar).
* The personal battle standard of Gabriel Angelos used at his ascension to chapter master.
** The Blood Ravens also want one of Trazyn's personal banners. <s>Negotiations are ongoing</s>. Negotiations broken off after a number of Space Marine collectibles went missing, Magpies have earned their reputation, some collectibles will now have to be bolted to the floor.
* <s> An Ogryn's 'Guardsman's Primer: Colouring Book Edition' and matching 'The Great Crayon Crusade' coloring set.</s>ALL DAH KRAYON GOT EATN BOSS, DEY AINT NONE LEF, AND DA MACHI LADY LOSS 'ER STC FING
* Chapter Master Alfabusa in a stasis chamber.
* Limited collectors edition of Half life 3 (After all, it's only been 38,000 years in development, maybe Valve will finish it before chaos/da WAAAAGH/the Tyranids/Imotekh's ego consumes the entire galaxy!)
* Sly Marbo's personal pistol, though not even Trazyn is willing to try and collect it.
Fall of Cadia
Oddly enough, it appears that Trazyn decided to 'aid' the Imperium in their defense of Cadia (he decided that after 60 million years it would be interesting to play the hero for once). He knows the secrets of the Pylons on Cadia, and he even releases Imperium people from his collection (represented in game by letting you deep strike units, if you take Trazyn in your Imperium army). What a great guy giving up his collection to have more space for other exotic exhibits...
Specifically he got the feeling that something was coming after the Bell of Saint Gersthal started chiming in his collection (in Necron stasis, which shouldn't have been able to happen), messing with the programs of his Tomb World, breaking a bunch of priceless and unique shit, ruining it with leaking coolant, as it rang thirteen times before ceasing. Trazyn, perhaps more befuddled than irate, but really quite put off, promptly headed off to the Celestial Orrery on Thanatos, having to explain having stolen their shit the last time he was there, just to see what the fuck was going on (but not before casting the bell into the webway, hoping it would be as much of a pain in the Eldar's ass as it was his). And what do you know, there was but the Crons' watching over the thing could do nothing about it cause they were just meant to watch over the thing, not play galactic peacekeepers (although they eventually let him in, the guards weren't happy that Trazyn was there, due to an incident where some priceless artifact mysteriously went missing the last time he visited). Thus Trazyn decided to take up the role as a savior for once (mostly because he was bored and wanted to try something other than grave-robbing), and find the source of the corruption, which happened to be the little boring world of Cadia.

Long story short, Trazyn went off to Cadia released some parts of his collection (most notably Inquisitor Greyfax, though that is mostly just because his old Pen Pal Valeria was apparently killed by another human), and helped the Imperial forces screw around with the Pylons. Which somewhat backfired to put it lightly, though not that it mattered much to him because he stopped caring about playing the hero role and figured that while he was around he could find something for his collection to commemorate such a historic moment. And while he was originally hoping to claim Abaddon for his collection, his second choice was no less impressive.

Creed stands alone on the ruined surface of Cadia. He sees a metal giant in a scaled cloak in front of him, hand outstretched.

"Ursarkar E. Creed - This is not your end. Eternity Awaits"....

His current activities are mostly unknown, but he's been tapping into his pet C'tan shard for information about the Great Rift. It's implied that he has something rather outre in mind as he doesn't want to close it but to enter it safely himself..

Inner Sadness of Trazyn
Despite being such a 'happy' guy Trazyn is clearly hiding many things from everyone. He laments just how stale Necron society has become, unable to make or appreciate art and music. Just like the Tomb Kings of Fantasy, Trazyn has realized that immortality and technology alone isn't enough to make life worth living.

Trazyn's collection of artifacts and history is a way for him to cope with his loss of memories, of identity and a lost sense of purpose. That's true Grimdark there. While he likely stole most of them, Trazyn expresses genuine grief and outrage when Orikan destroys several ancient - as in pre-biotransference - Necrontyr relics in Trazyn's galleries (especially a walking cane topped with a hawk-head handle that actually belonged to Trazyn).

While he admires and wants to be a colleague to Orikan, he can't help screwing him over (violence and untreated kleptomania aren't good for relationships) even when it would be disadvantageous for him and his people. Despite being a fictional alien-turned-machine, Trazyn shows just how easy and damning it can be to fall in the pitfalls of life and how it can be more depressing than death.

Humanity through Trazyn's eyes
The novel The Infinite and the Divine reveals more of Trazyn's thoughts on mankind. On one hand he points out how in a Galaxy populated by Orks, Eldar, Tyranids and so many born predators and monsters mankind has prevailed to become the dominant species in a way similar to the ancient Necrontyr. Although humans are so short-lived and fragile he also notices how, like the Necrontyr, they have managed to create a vibrant culture. Every world they inhabit has managed to produce at least something worthy of being recorded for posterity in the galleries of Solemnace.

He even attempted to convince his rival, Orikan the Diviner that the humans of Serenade and their culture had some intrinsic value. Orikan, being Orikan and a generally cantankerous fellow, wasn’t convinced.

On the other hand he is not entirely without empathy toward humans either. First off he points out how fear is a poor substitute for good leadership and rewarding loyal service, actually ensuring his enthralled human has a far better long life than what his salary and position at the Administratum would have otherwise allowed him. Apparently, Trazyn didn't see why he should make his thrall's existence worse, and despite said thrall being mind-shackled, Trazyn was reasonably sure it was a largely superfluous contingency for a generally willing, competent, and loyal servant. Secondly there is a point in the novel when the human thrall, soon to be silenced as he reached the end of his usefulness, gives thanks to Trazyn for how he helped him and his family and then asks if he was going to destroy his world. Trazyn, remembering how beautiful was the planet's ecosystem before the Imperium colonized it, asks in return if he would actually need to do such a thing when humans were already killing the planet through ruthless resource exploitation. True to Trazyn’s word, the servant’s subsequent termination, while immensely painful, was mercifully brief.

Trazyn has even stated that he would actually like to keep some humans as vassals if the necrons ever managed to bring back the Infinite Empire, as they would be an endless source of amusement and surprise for the rest of eternity.
