Quaggoths are a primitive race of Underdark-dwellers in Dungeons & Dragons. First created for the Fiend Folio in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition, quaggoths are shaggy humanoid bears marked by their white coloration. Primitive beings with only stone age level technology, if that, they eke out an existence as tribal bands of nomads that wander the depths, feeding on whatever they can catch and frequently enslaved by the more intelligent races of the deep; drow, duergar and illithids. They are also known as "Deep Bears" for their appearance and choice of homes.

In the AD&D Monstrous Manual, it's suggested that some believe they were once a semi-civilized race which dominated much of the Underdark through conquest and ritual sacrifice, until the drow, duergar, and other races broke their power. Others speculate they had some sort of civilization on the surface and were driven underground; this theory is supported by the quaggoths’ hatred for surface-dwelling dwarves and elves. Regardless, the quaggoth today are a minor faction in the Underdark, as likely to be prey as they are to be predator.

The closest thing that quaggoths have to higher culture in the modern era are the Thonots; shamans who wield psionics instead of divine magic (or who worship the Primal Spirits in the Nentir Vale setting). Thonots control what passes for religious life among quaggoths. They oversee what few rituals there are; those rituals which are known include the daily preparation for hunting, coming of age, and death (a brief whistling to send the spirit away before the rest of the quaggoths eat the body).

Quaggoths have never really been a hugely popular Underdark race. After the Fiend Folio, they went on to appear in the Forgotten Realms Revised Campaign Setting, and from there the Monstrous Manual. In 3rd edition, they first appeared in Monsters of Faerun, were mentioned in the 3e Underdark sourcebook, and revised for 3.5 with Drow of the Underdark, which saw them receive their largest amount of information to date, even bringing back a reference to the Boogin - Quaggoth/Orc hybrids that had appeared in the sample adventurie in the FR Revised Campaign Setting, but which hadn't even warranted their own full statblock there! 4e saw them return, with rather scant details, in its own Underdark sourcebook, whilst 5e waited for the adventure Out of the Abyss to bring them back into the limelight. So, as one can tell, quaggoths aren't going anywhere any time soon.

Quaggoth PCs
Quggoths appeared alongside five other unlikely races as a PC option in an article in Dragon Magazine #265; the Gibberling, the Grimlock, the Mold Man, the Su-Monster, the Troglodyte and the Yeti. Here, they received some expansions upon the frankly meager lore available to them, presenting them as an aggressive, independent species with a strong sense of wanderlust, and a tendency to play roughly. The 3e Underdark sourcebook would also mention the possibility of quaggoth PCs, but they've never been formally written up as a PC race; players are instead left to decode them from the monster statblocks of the edition.

A Lamia is a sort of monster that combines human and snake features, commonly having a human torso from the waist up and a snake body from the waist down. The term naga is sometimes used interchangeably, but they are just as likely to refer to distinct creatures. They tend to share a lot of stereotypical snake traits, like preferring to sneak around and plot rather than fight in the open. An affinity for magic, poison, or hypnosis is also common.

Greek Mythology
The creature known as Lamia used to be the queen of Lybia. She was also the lover of Zeus, which everybody knows how that ends considering who the latter's wife is. Hera, discovering her husband had an affair, did what every ultra jealous goddess did and killed Lamia's children. Oh and then cursed her with insanity and the inability to fall asleep. These three factors caused the queen to mutate over time into a monster with the upper half of a woman and the lower half being that of a snake that would prey on and devour children and young men. Zeus, seeing that all of this is something he's to blame for, at least made sure her life won't suffer so much and gave her the ability to remove her eyes from her eye sockets so she would have something that is closest to sleeping.

Dungeons & Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons lamias are totally different from other lamias. Since their first appearance in the Monster Manual for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition, typical lamias were described as centaur-like meldings of woman and quadruped beast. Their 2nd edition updated appearance, the Monstrous Compendium volume 2, specifically stated that their lower bodies can resemble goats, deer or lions, among other things - however, as all of the artwork for lamias has traditionally gone with the "lioness-taur" appearance, this has become cemented in peoples' minds as the "true form" of the D&D lamia. Although, strangely, their appearance in 3.5's Monster Manual depicts a male leonic commoner lamia.

However, the iconic snake-girl lamia has also appeared in D&D as well. Called the Lamia Noble, and coming in both male & female forms (males are sword-wielding gishes, females are spellcasters), it appeared for the first time in the Fiend Folio and was later reprinted in typical "subvariant small addition" in the Lamia's entry in the Monstrous Compendium - this lack of artwork for it is probably why few people remember it actually existed. It would not be updated to third edition until Expedition to the Demonweb Pits, late in the game's run-time. The biggest difference from common lamia, aside from the added wizard/sorcerer spells, is that they can shapechange into human form.

Birthright's unique awnsheigh, the Lamia, follows the lion-taur model. A one-time exotic dancer, con-woman, and thief, she accidentally absorbed the tainted bloodline of a man dying on a battlefield when she murdered him to loot the corpse. Years later, after killing and draining several others, she murdered the king of Besaiam and became ruler, constantly funding vainglorious monuments to herself. Her main powers are her ability to instantly charm men, whether with a glance or an aura, and a touch that drains Wisdom and makes men into her fawning servitors. Women are immune to these powers, which is one of the reasons she gets very... catty (hee) whenever pretty ladies are around, the other being that she is envious of her lost human beauty. Between her various charmed puppets, she actually controls a decent-sized holding.

Lamias had their own Ecology Of article in Dragon Magazine #192. According to this article, noble lamias need human mates in order to propagate their species, as interbreeding with each other or with common lamias will only produce more common lamias. Likewise, the common lamias need to mate with humans to produce true offspring, as mating with each other will only produce sa'irs, which are savage beasts that have the forequarters of a goat-horned lion and the hindquarters of a goat... No, you didn't read that wrong; according to Drag-Mag, common lamias, despite looking like women from the waist up, are actually a species of hermaphrodites and so can impregnate and be impregnated as they see fit. Lamias of both "castes" have an annual week-long mating season in summer that drives them wild with lust and sends them looking for human baby-daddies/mommies; a sufficiently attractive human partner could cause them to go into heat outside of this time as well. According to Drag-Mag's statistics, adult commoner lamias are 60% likely to be lion-taurs, 25% likely to be goat-taurs, and 15% likely to be deer/antelope-taurs. Lamia nobles, according to this, can't actually copy spells from scrolls or spellbooks (remember, these were the days before monsters could have classes), so human wizards were especially prized captives.

Traditionally, lamias of all kinds are Chaotic Evil in alignment, being selfish, evil, cruel, lazy hedonists who use their innate ability to drain Wisdom in order to brainwash victims into serving them as slaves, mates and/or food; they don't respect any life other than their own, so the roles are not exclusive.

A variant lamia called a "Tigerus" is native to the Kingdoms of Kalamar 3.5 setting, making its appearance in the setting's personal monster manual, "Dangerous Denizens: The Monsters of Tellene". Unlike common lamias, these are a neutral-aligned species of tiger-taurs who live a stone-age style primitive lifestyle (to put this in perspective, cooking meat is a new and exotic idea for them, though quickly catching on). They lack the Wisdom drain of standard lamias, instead focusing on melee combat (pouncing and raking special attacks), and they sport druidic spells that make jungle life easier, like Speak With Animals, rather than the standard sorcerer powers.

4th edition is an outlier in this regard, as its "lamia" has absolutely no relation to the model portrayed here and which it returned to in 5th edition. Instead, its "lamia" is a species of carnivorous scarab-like beetles native to the Feywild with a voracious appetite for fey flesh (although they'll eat humanoids if they can get them). Their standard hunting MO is to eat the poor bastards alive from the inside out, hollowing out the corpse so they can wriggle under the skin and use the skeleton to move the bug-bag corpse around as a disguise. This lets them get closer to fresh victims. Although this is an awesomely creepy monster idea, its poor choice of name alienated a lot of fans and so it's gone unused since.

Although it's not technically a Lamia, the Marilith Tanar'ri does look like someone fused an Amazon with a Lamia, gave her multiple arms, and then called it a day and her a demon. Likewise, the Lillend is a Celestial who looks like someone slapped wings on a lamia bard and dubbed her an angel.

Pathfinder
Pathfinder's lamias are pretty much exactly the same as their D&D ancestors; the biggest change-up was the creation of the "Lamyros" subtype. Having a family of "lamia-kin" allowed Pathfinder to not only bring back the Lamia Matriarch, but also add some new members to the family -- these first appeared in the original Rise of the Runelords adventure path, but were tweaked when it got reprinted in compilation form under Pathfinder's "new" ruleset.

The Harridan is an elite Lamia, the only creature more important in their loosely-held society than a Lamia Matriarch. It's essentially a giant lamia with added divine spells, and was tweaked to a template only available to lamias with 10+ levels in a divine casting class in the compilation. This "remake" version does state that it's possible to encounter Noble Lamias turned Harridans, but it's very rare, and most are the typical leonic tauress.

The Hungerer is a result of Karzoug experimenting on Harridans in his fleshwarping pits, creating a horrifically disfigured, gaping-mawed, obscenely obese monstrosity that suffers endless pain & hunger, causing it to devour anything and everything around it.

Finally, the Kuchrima is the bottom of the lamia totem pole, being a hideously ragged-looking humanoid vulture that serves as a scout and, more eagerly, garbage disposal; noxious cannibals and gleeful scavengers, these carrion-eaters carry huge bows they use with their prehensile feet from the air and carry foul diseases up close in melee.

A 3rd party netbook, Kobold Quarterly #23, includes unofficial rules for playing a "classic" snake-woman Lamia in Pathfinder or D&D 3.5 in the form of the Lamia Commoner species. It has the following racial profile:
::+2 Strength, +2 Charisma, –2 Intelligence: Lamia commoners are physically strong and manipulative.
::Medium: Lamia commoners are Medium creatures, and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
::Normal Speed: Lamia commoners have a base speed of 30 ft. They have a climb speed of 20 ft and a swim speed of 20 ft.
::Darkvision: Lamias can see in the dark up to 60 ft.
::Low-Light Vision: Lamias can see twice as far as humans in dim light.
::Intimidating: Lamias receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate skill checks due to their frightening nature and appearance.
::Lamian Immunities: Lamias get a +2 racial bonus to saves against mind-affecting spells and effects.
::Snake Body: Lamia commoners have neither feet nor legs and thus cannot be tripped. They may not use magic items requiring the feet slot.
::Skilled: Lamias receive a +2 racial bonus on Bluff and Use Magic Device checks.
::Spell Resistance: Lamias possess spell resistance equal to 5 plus their class levels.
::Spell-Like Abilities: A lamia can cast charm person and ventriloquism each 1/day, using her total character level as her caster level.
::Weapon Familiarity: Lamia commoners are proficient with the scimitar.
::Languages: Lamias begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Lamias with high Intelligence can choose any additional bonus languages, with Abyssal being the most typical.

Vampire: The Masquerade
In Vampire: The Masquerade, the Lamiae are a supposedly extinct bloodline of vampires named after their founder, Lamia. Lamia was the high priestess of a cult of Lilith, and claimed to be her daughter, when the Cappadocian vampire Lazarus found her performing rites to Lilith and proceeded to embrace her. As she changed to a vampire, she had a vision of Lilith who told her about her and her new clans future, and upon awakening, and Lazarus explaining her condition to her, she whispered a couple lines to her sires ear who then promptly ran the fuck away and begun actively avoiding her.

From there she made her way to her clan, and there created her bloodline named after her. They served as the bodyguards and warriors of the Cappadocians and continued the worship and rites of Lilith as their sire had. They mainly consisted of women, as they were seen to be closer to Lilith, who had greater power when compared to their male counterparts, and had a variant of the necromancy discipline based on the four humors. Their weakness was that they carried the Seed of Lilith, a viral disease similar to the black plague that infected those they fed from, with women having a greater resistance to it than men, that would kill those fed from after a few days. If another vampire drank from the same person a lamia had drank, they would become carriers of the disease.

When Augustus Giovanni diablerized Cappadocius, he also supposedly diablerized Lamia, which caused the painful kiss of the Giovanni. The bloodline then became a target for persecution and the other clans worked with the Giovanni to destroy them, with the last Lamia having been killed in 1718... However, at the time of the Final Nights, a group of female vampires calling themselves the Lilin who have the same practices as the Lamia and claims of heritage sprung up in Cairo, leading some to speculate that the bloodline survived.

OWoD Clans

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
In the new Warhammer: Age of Sigmar game, part of the Daughters of Khaine faction is a race created by Morathi called the Melusai, who are basically Warhammer lamia; female dark elves from the waist up and giant snakes from the waist down. That's all we know about them so far.

Monstergirls (and biology issues)
To get the elephant in the room out of the way, yes, vorarephiles get a serious kick out of these due to snakes swallowing their prey whole. But as for the rest of us...

One problem with Lamia monstergirls that they have in common with Merfolk and Centaurs (despite it being much more rarely discussed with Lamias compared to the other two for some weird reason) is that if they're a nonhuman animal from the waist down, where's their vagina? This might not seem like a problem at first, until you learn that a snake's cloaca is at the base of their actually-very-short tail.

In fact they have a lot of the same problems in this area as the Centaurs and Merfolk each do individually, without any of the easy solutions presented by either. For example, for reasons pertaining to blood distribution, the heart would need to be in the snake part rather than the human part (or at best near where the two parts meet), meaning that placing their junk at waist-height (length?) would give them a uterus wedged between their lungs, esophagus, and trachea (and bringing squirting into the mix would lodge the bladder in there as well), and the problem gets magnified when you take pregnancy into account. Making all their organs of the above-waist human variety would be the equivalent of taking a normal human and giving them legs many times longer (and thus with many times more body mass) than said human organs are equipped to support.

You might be thinking that just putting their junk where a snake's is would be the simplest approach, after all it shouldn't be too hard for her to bend her tail up to meet my dick, right? Well yes, but it still has complications of it's own. Making those genitals human ones would A) look retarded and B) result in lamias of both sexes having to drag their junk along the ground when they slither, and even if you sigh and accept having to stick your dick in an unsexy reptile cloaca there's still the issue of modesty; what the heck sort of clothes could they wear down there that they wouldn't just slither out of the instant they started moving?

Oh well. At least they should all be able to deepthroat any penis with ridiculous ease...

Monstergirl Encyclopedia
In the Monster Girl Encyclopedia, the lamia was one of the first mamono to get her own profile. They are characterized both by their love of using their coils to hug their mates and by their possessiveness; lamia do not let their men go once they choose them, and before KC retconned out any and all "dark" content, they would actually kill their husbands if they dared to cheat on them.

Other branches of the lamia family tree, aside from the Basilisk and the Medusa, include:
* Apophis: A cobra lamia from the not!Egypt region, named for the serpentine god of evil in Egyptian mythology, that uses her aphrodisiac, mind-controlling venom to conquer territories to rule over.
* Echidna: A powerful lamia variant that can give birth to almost any form of mamono besides its own, who create elaborate dungeon complexes in order to lure skilled, powerful adventurers to claim as their husbands. Takes its name from the Greco-Roman "Mother of Monsters".
* Shirohebi: A white-colored lamia variant from Zipangu, a surprisingly shy and docile lamia mage skilled in water elementalism, who tend to serve as clerics to "Ryu", the Zipangu dragon-girl species. They're still as possessively jealous over their husband as normal lamias, though. Take their name from a famous Chinese/Japanese folk story involving a white snake who turned herself into a human and fell in love with a human man. Still retains the ability to use flames from the story but they are instead used to bind the man to become dependent only on her instead of using it to roast said man alive.
* Bunyip: A fluffy lamia variant that inhabits rivers, they suffer from such crippling shyness that they completely lose the ability to speak around guys they like, until eventually they get so overheated with lust all they can think to do is pounce on him and coil him up for mating.
Bullywugs are ugly little frog-men who live in swamps and have no redeeming qualities at all, whatsoever. They're fat, they smell bad, they have no drive nor ambition, no greater dreams or an empire to speak of, and oh yeah, THEY ARE COMING!!! MILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF BULLYWUGS ARE COMING!!! WHY WON'T ANYBODY LISTEN TO ME?!?!?

As hard as this may be to believe, bullywugs are actually one of the oldest monster races in D&D, stretching all the way back to AD&D 1st edition, created by Gary Gygax for the Fiend Folio. They even were picked as the mook of choice for the D&D cartoon series. Yes, that existed. That said, they've never really been anything more than a froggish take on goblins, being stupid, violent, savage swamp-dwellers with a penchant for human flesh and clumsily worshipping various abominations.

Pathfinder renamed them Boggarts and gave them some more development.

Bullywugs in 4th Edition
They made their 4e debut in the Monster Manual 2 for 4e, complete with racial profile in the back appendage, and a history portraying them as, literally, left over mistakes by the Primordials in creating life. Nobody would ever play these things, unless they wanted to be an ironic idiot and/or the group punching bag, unless you are a munchkin (in which case you can probably make a damn decent bleak disciple assassin and slit their throats in their sleep), or unless you grab a third-party version. They never had any feat support.Stats:
Bullywugs 5e
In 5th Edition, Bullywugs have become a race of Bullying frogs with an Inferiority superiority complex, trying to impress outsiders. They can talk to are often in company with giant frogs,toads, and other amphibians(Although this takes a special Bullywug translator) which they use as pact animals, usually having them sallow and regurgitate game, and for some reason Bullywugs like the taste.
There are 3 versions of the Bullywug. The standard bullywug, Bullywug Croaker, and the Bullywug Royal the last 2 appearing in Ghost of Saltmarsh.

The Bullywug
Bullywugs can Jump up to 20ft long or 10ft for it's high jump, they can Breath underwater(Somehow), there skin blends in with the the wetlands terrains they live in and they can talk to Toads and Frogs, and possibly other Amphibians with training. They are an good monster for Wetlands and other places are rather Inflexible
elsewhere.
Croakers
Some Bullywugs have the Natural Ability to use Bard magic though Croaks, hence the name. While also having a more powerful bite and stanard Bullywug. Their 2 Bardic abilities are Glaar-pat and Rooooo-glog. Glaar-Pat is a 3 a day ability that deals pysic dmg to any creature of the Croakers choice in 30ft while Rooooo-Glog is a one a gives 10 Temp Hp to any Bullywug that can hear it and is in 30ft of the Croaker. All and all a good Support Monster.

The Al'miraj is a monster that originates from Arabic mythology and is the source of several Arabian poems. In appearance, it resembles nothing so much as a large, brightly colored (the traditional description features saffron-yellow fur) rabbit with an onyx-black unicorn horn growing from its skull. Despite its innocuous appearance, the al'miraj (also known as Mi'raj, Mir'aj or just Miraj) is actually a vicious predator; swift and agile, it brutally attacks anything that draws too close, goring them to death with its horn and then eating the remains. In fact, this gluttonous carnivore can devour creatures several times larger than itself.

Basically, the al'miraj is one of those concepts that is simultaneously stupid beyond belief, and yet crazy enough to be awesome. As such, it has popped up in a couple of roleplaying games.

Dungeons & Dragons
The al'miraj first crossed the paths of Dungeons & Dragons in the original Fiend Folio, a secondary Monster Manual sourcebook for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition. Here, it was... nothing particularly special. This first version of the al'miraj was... nothing particularly impressive. It was basically a bad-tempered bunny that could stab somebody with its horn once per round, doing the same 1d4 damage as a dagger. The most unusual thing noted about it was that the young could be tamed and the creature could potentially make a good companion.

The al'miraj would later reappear in AD&D 2e, in the Monstrous Compendium Appendix Fiend Folio sourcebook. Here reputed to be an experiment of Krynnish gnomes gone horribly right, the al'miraj picked up the nickname of "blink bunny", because it now had the inherent ability to randomly teleport all over the place. They also gained a variant; the psionic al'miraj, whose access to the Sciences of Detonate and Telekinesis paired with the Disciplines of Control Flames, Control Lights, Control Winds, Levitation, and Molecular Agitation earned it the in-universe nickname of "Bunny of the Abyss".

Sound like overkill? Well, imagine being attacked by a whole herd of pissed-off rabbits with daggers on their heads that keep randomly teleporting around. Now imagine that 1 in 10 of those little bastards is using psionics to throw shit at you, lift you off of your feet, throw fireballs around, and either set your gear on fire or make it explode as you're wearing it. They earned the name fair and square.

WoTC did not think very much of the al'miraj, and mostly left them to rot. In 3rd edition, "The Tome of Horrors", a third-party sourcebook by Necromancer Games aimed at adapting the critters of the Fiend Folio, converted the 2e al'miraj to 3e mechanics as accurately as they could.

Indeed, WoTC wouldn't touch the al'miraj until 4th edition, where the blink bunny resurfaced as "The Garden Variety Al'miraj"; this version went back to basics and focused mostly on being a quick and nimble skirmisher that tried to stab people to death with its horn. It did have the unique ability to immediately burrow its full speed if it missed an attack, allowing it to effectively teleport around the battlefield without directly being a teleporting monster.

But, evidently, Chris Perkins and the other WoTC members who worked on Tomb of Annihilation have a soft spot for the al'miraj, which returned to print at last as an official D&D monster in the aforementioned 5e adventure. This version of the al'miraj has gone all the way back to its roots, and is once again a quick and agile carnivorous bunny that disembowels people with its horn. In fact, it's now officially considered a possible option for a wizard's familiar, because why have a bunny in your hat when you can have a murderous meat-eating bunny instead?

Pathfinder
Al'miraj gravitated to Pathfinder in the 4th Bestiary, and took on a much darker tone than they had in D&D. The Pathfinder version of the al'miraj has a horn which functions as a magic weapon... and which also petrifies anything it kills. This forces the al'miraj to focus on maiming attacks when hunting, using its horn to inflict terrible wounds or crippling damage so that it can then eat its victims alive. It's also unusually responsive to witch hexes. The Pathfinder al'miraj can be taken as an Improved Familiar by a caster of at least 5th level.

Castle Falkenstein
In Castle Falkenstein, the al'miraj - or the miraj, as they insist on calling it - is one of the magical creatures that appears in the Curious Creatures sourcebook. This version of the al'miraj is quite docile by nature, but also strange and magical; it feeds on "soft" metals, like copper, tin, bronze, brass, gold and silver, and uses a horrific scream attack to scare away potential predators.

Oriental Dragons, as their name suggests, are what happens when Dungeons & Dragons tries to recast dragons to better fit an Oriental Adventures mold. There are two known examples of these; the Lung Dragons of Dungeons & Dragons and the Imperial Dragons of Pathfinder.

Lung Dragons
Lung Dragons first appeared in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1e supplement "Fiend Folio"; here, rules were presented for 6 different types of Oriental Dragon; Li Lung (Earth Dragon), Lung Wang (Sea Dragon), Pan Lung (Coiled Dragon), Shen Lung (Spirit Dragon), T'ien Lung (Celestial Dragon) and Yu Lung (Carp Dragon).

Lung Dragons were subsequently updated to AD&D 2e in the Kara-Tur Monstrous Compendium Appendix. Here, they gained two new members; the Chiang Lung (River Dragon) and the Tun Mi Lung (Typhoon Dragon).

All eight species made their final appearance to date in the Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition Oriental Adventures sourcebook. Lung-blooded Half-Dragons were subsequently statted in the 3e Draconomicon; it was noted in the Kara-Tur and OA sourcebooks that their children were actually Spirit Folk. One way to resolve the discrepancy is that the direct descendants of lung dragons are Spirit Folk with the Half-Lung Dragon template, and subsequent generations become simply spirit folk.

Information about what the Lung Dragons actually do has grown over time. When they first appeared in the Fiend Folio, absolutely nothing was stated about who they are or what they actually do. In Kara-Tur, they were stated to be agents of the Celestial Bureaucracy, with each subspecies having its own particular function in ensuring the smooth governance of the world. It was further noted that, every year, the oriental dragon officers journey to the Celestial Palace to file their reports of the previous year's activities and events. Rewards and punishments are distributed based on the evaluation of the records. A corrupt or inefficient dragon may be removed and replaced by a new appointee; an industrious dragon may be promoted to a position of higher responsibility. This was later re-used for the OA material.

Yu Lung (Carp Dragon)
The Carp Dragon is the infantile form of the lung dragon species as a whole. All lung dragons lay their eggs in or close to fresh water, because regardless of the mother's species, her offspring will hatch as this strange tadpole-like dragon. A carp dragon almost resembles a draconic version of a merfolk, with the tail of a giant carp connecting to the forequarters of a small dragon with prodigiously webbed foreclaws. Their scales are blue-gray with variously colored markings, and their eyes are bright yellow and rather cat-like.

Shy and reclusive, they are the smallest and most docile of their kin, building crude (by draconic standards) lairs of mud and stone in the murkiest parts of their lakes, where they scavenge the bottom for food and generally just wait until they reach their final maturity. On the midnight of a yu lung's 101st birthday, it will spontaneously transform into an adult lung dragon of a random species; the 2e version possesses a table to determine which one it evolves into, but this lore isn't present in 3rd edition. Upon evolving, a Yu Lung reports to the Celestial Bureaucracy and is assigned appropriate duties for its new species. For this reason, they have little interest in collecting treasure, and don't assemble the traditional hoard.

Yu lung are known to be quite friendly towards humans who approach them in the right manner, and their bonds are lifelong; even after a yu lung evolves into its adult form, it never forgets its human friends.

In 2nd edition, yu lung of the Young Adult stage possessed a Swallow Whole attack, but they lost this in 3rd edition. They also lost their breath weapon, a cloud of curative vapors that functioned as a 10ft Potion of Healing (2d4+1) that they could exhale once per day.

::Roll - Result
::01-30 - Shen lung
::31-50 - Pan lung
::51-65 - Chiang lung
::66-80 - Li lung
::81-90 - Lung wang
::91-95 - Tun mi lung
::96-00 - T’ien lung

Li Lung (Earth Dragon)
Easily confused for sphinxes by the unwitting, li lung are the only winged species of lung dragon, and resemble giant lions with human faces and mighty eagle-like wings. A li lung hatchling is covered in light green scales, but as it ages, these darken and are covered by a layer of dense, wiry fur that sprouts from between the scales; a great wyrm earth dragon is nearly black in color and looks completely fur-covered. Their wings are adorned with colorful quills, resembling the tail-feathers of a peacock, and their eyes are a molten gold in color.

Reclusive by nature, these lung dragons are spirits of the deep earth; masters of the earthquake and punishers of the wicked, they are most commonly sent to punish communities that have angered the Celestial Bureaucracy by leveling those settlements with earthquakes. On rare occasions, a community in good standing and great need may be visited by a li lung, who uses its powers to reveal veins of precious metals or to open underground springs.

These dragons are lithovores, feeding primarily on earth and stone - precious metals such as gold and silver are a favorite snack, however.

Lung Wang (Sea Dragon)
The oriental sea dragon shares the same body-plan as the far more malevolent Dragon Turtle, consisting of a giant sea turtle with the head of a shen lung. Rulers of the sea and protectors of its denizens, lung wang are among the most materialistic of the lung dragons, regularly demanding tribute from passing ships. For this reason, regular travelers in the area learn to form arrangement with the local lung wang, dumping a pre-determined amount of treasure overboard at a specific spot to be granted the right to use the lung wang's territory.

Despite being herbivores who prefer algae and seaweed as their primary foodstuff, lung wang are merciless in defending their territories, and will slaughter and/or consume entire ships that they feel have failed to honor them or who have committed "unforgivable" trespasses. They are one of the only two species of lung dragon who possess breath weapons, being capable of exhaling gouts of superheated steam, just like a dragon turtle.

Whilst they maintain cordial relationships with most other lung dragons, lung wang do not get along with tun mi lung. They are often served by communities of intelligent aquatic humanoids, such as merfolk.

Shen Lung (Spirit Dragon)
The shen lung are the most common of the oriental dragons, and the most humble looking. Long and slender, they resemble lizards more than anything, taking the form of giant lizard with spiked tails, ridged backs, two sharp horns atop the head, and golden whiskers around the snout. Like most of the adult lung dragons, shen lung are wingless and fly through the power of a magical pearl of great size embedded in their brains; a shen lung's pearl is yellow in color, a trait they share with the t'ien lung. The scales of youthful shen lung are dull shades of red, blue, green, orange, or any combination of these colors; the scales brighten into brilliant hues as the dragon ages - curiously, their AD&D lore forgets that they begin their life as yu lung, referring to dull "hatchlings" and achieving full brightness by the age of "young adult".

Although they prefer a diplomatic approach, if roused to battle, shen lung are fiercely physical attacks, lashing out with their exceptionally long and powerful tals, clawing, and biting. They also possess the ability to grant Blessings and inflict Curses, conjure Ice Storms, and Control Weather, depending on their age, with 3e adding Cone of Cold and Horrid Wilting to their arsenal. No insect, arachnid or arthropod will approach within 60 feet of a shen lung, and they can also command the loyalty of scaled animals through a kind of magical charm. Immune to lightning and poison, shen lung are vulnerable to fire. They are one of two breeds of oriental dragon capable of using Water Fire, an aura of ghostly, multi-colored fire they can activate whenever touching or submerged in water. This magical flame can be dispelled by the touch of true fire, be it magical or mundane in origin, but burns melee attackers.

These amphibious dragons serve the Celestial Bureaucracy as its courtiers, as well as working as the assistants and guards of the chiang lungs. They are known for being modest, loyal and naturally diplomatic, as well as for a tendency to be fascinated by humans (or humanoids, in less humanocentric settings). Shen lung are the oriental dragons most likely to adopt human form in order to interact with humans, which makes them one of the most likely progenitors of Oriental Half-Dragons. Humanoids return this admiration, viewing shen lung as messengers of the gods and bringers of good fortune, often constructing ornate shrines and staging elaborate ceremonies to invoke their attention and gain their favor.

These dragons typically establish modest yet well-kept lairs in the form of mansions of stone built on the bottoms of rivers and lakes, and often share their territory both with others of their kind and with a chiang lung superior.

Pan Lung (Coiled Dragon)
Pan Lungs resemble shen lungs, and are closely related to them, but they are longer and thinner in frame, and possess different coloration; pan lungs are found in a number of brilliant hues, with various shades of red, orange and green being the most common. They possess multi-colored manes on their necks and dark whiskers growing from their snouts. Their scales are oily, causing them to gleam. The magical brain-pearl that grants them flight is blood-red.

The biggest difference between pan lungs and shen lungs is their assigned role. Whilst shen lungs are courtiers, assistants and body guards, pan lungs are guardians of crypts and temples, as well as being assigned the role of serving as wardens over mortals who were unfaithful spouses. Such unfortunates are condemned to serve their pan lung for a term in years equal to the number of tears they have caused their mate to shed, and rendered immune from aging so long as they are under the dragon's service.

Pan lung are vegetarian by preference, often maintaining elaborate gardens to provide them with fruits and vegetables.

They are generally indifferent to the other lung dragons, ignoring their existence unless commanded otherwise by the Celestial Bureaucracy. The exception is the t'ien lung; pan lungs resent the power and position afforded to the celestial dragons, and have been known to get so caught up in their jealousy that they will spontaneously attack them in a frenzy.

In battle, pan lung share most of the shen lung's abilities, including their Water Fire, but their different body structures allow them to crush foes in constricting coils, rather than wield the powerful tail slaps of their shen lung brothers.

T'ien Lung (Celestial Dragon)
The regal t'ien lung are iconically a golden yellow in color, but have been seen with orange or light green scales. They possess multi-hued manes and whiskers, and antlers rising from their skull. They give off a sweet scent reminiscent of cherry blossoms. Wingless, they can fly through the power of a magical yellow pearl embedded in their brains, like that of a shen lung.

Noble and honorable, though often rigid and unmerciful, t'ien lung are believed to be amongst the most favored officials of the Celestial Bureacracy; this is presented as speculation, which the t'ien lung neither confirm nor deny, in AD&D, but as fact in 3rd edition. They well in resplendent castles build either on the peaks of high mountains or within banks of clouds, and often surround themselves with elementals of air. Notorious for their love of eating opals and pearls, and their tendency to look kindly upon mortals who give them these delicacies, farmers often make offerings of these in order to coax the t'ien lungs into using their power to control the weather on their behalf.

T'ien lung are the only species of lung dragon with an offensive breath weapon, being capable of exhaling gouts of fire when roused to battle. This serves them well in battling the envious pan lung and the rebellious tun mi lung, both of whom are often drawn to violence with the t'ien lung.

Chiang Lung (River Dragon)
Whilst the lung dragons as a whole are more serpentine than their Chromatic Dragon and Metallic Dragon counterparts, it is the chiang lung who take this to the ultimate extreme, resembling giant serpents whose four short limbs with their webbed feet are easily missed by a casual observer. Underbellies of brilliant yellow offset bodies comprised of various shades of blue and green, whilst multicolored "beards" sprout beneath their chins. These wingless dragons fly through the power of magical giant blue pearls imbedded in their brains.

Assigned to guard rivers and lakes by the Celestial Bureaucracy, chiang lung establish lairs in the form of immense, opulent and magical palaces beneath the surface of the water. Such places sometimes border on demiplanes in their own right, and are usually shared by subordinate nature spirits and shen lung. One nasty little surprise for would-be hoardstealers is that a nascent enchantment causes anything of value within a chiang lung's lair to become absolutely worthless if it is taken from the palace by force; only gifts retain their original value.

In addition to being spirits of rain and water, these noble and honorable dragons are also patrons of the arts and scholarship. They have been known to entertain virtuous scholars, artists, and other men of sufficient learning and art, sometimes by posing as wealthy nobles or governmental officials and taking them for rides on lavishly decorated boats, other times by inviting them down into the chiang lung's palace.

Alongside the shen lung, the chiang lung are particularly fascinated by humans, and frequently interbreed with them. Young female chiang lungs are particularly infamous amongst lung dragons for their tendency to be attracted to handsome human men, resulting in secret love affairs and marriages.

Chiang lung can generate rain at will by exhaling storm clouds, a form of breath weapon that has no combat use.

Whilst they can consume any type of mineral or gem, chiang lung possess more earthly tastes, and are very fond of fish and sheep.

Tun Mi Lung (Typhoon Dragon)
The only truly malicious members of the lung dragon family, the tun mi lung, as their common moniker suggests, are charged with the dispensation of destructive hurricanes and typhoons. They are supposed to only do so when instructed by the Celestial Bureaucracy, but such is their love of their own powers and their enjoyment of storms that they frequently do so of their own volition. As a result, they are on very bad terms with the t'ien lung, who must often reign them in by force.

Largest and bulkiest of the lung dragons, tun mi lung have long, sinuous bodies covered with thick scales in a variety of colors, with blue-green, dark red, and violet among the most common. They have dark beady eyes, stringy beards dangling from their chins, and enormous jaws lined with hooked teeth as sharp as razors. Though wingless, tun mi lung can fly from the power of a magical black pearl embedded in their brains.

It's believed that tun mi lung maintain lavish palaces on the floor of the ocean, hidden in remote areas away from more peaceful and cultured subaquatic denizens. However, they rarely spend time at home, most frequently roaming the skies above the sea or patrolling coastlines. This does not endear them to their kinsfolk, as tun mi lung are indifferent to the territorial claims of other dragons. Of course, such dislike pales in comparison to that felt for the tun mi lung by any seafaring mortal race.

When it comes to food, tun mi lung are the least choosy of all oriental dragons, equally fond of fish, precious gems, and capsized ships.

When drawn into battle, tun mi lung lash out with gale force winds and magical lightning bolts.

Imperial Dragons
Imperial Dragons, sometimes termed Dragons of the Celestial Host, are a type of dragon that are serpentine agents of cosmic balance native to Tian Xia. Like other true dragons, they grow in power as they age. Although they are true dragons, imperial dragons differ in appearance from other true dragons, possessing a long serpentine body. They lack wings, but can fly gracefully through supernatural means. All imperial dragons have large horns with which they can make deadly gore attacks. Like all dragons, imperial dragons can breathe potent torrents of elemental force, cast spells, and perform other supernatural feats. Additionally, all can magically transform themselves into a humanoid shape.

Imperial Dragons consist of five breeds; Forest, Sea, Sky, Underworld, and Sovereign. These are known in Tian Xia as Dilung, Jiaolung, Tienlung, Futsanglung and Lungwang respectively, making their origins in AD&D quite clear. Each, however, only has a single sentence worth of lore so far, as a result of the stupidly huge statblocks taking up all of their page space in the Bestiary 3, where they first appeared.

Forest dragons, or dilung, are fickle and malevolent dragons that dwell in deep, rugged woodlands. While a forest dragon can fly, it prefers to stalk the earth, flying only to pursue objects of its wrath. As they age, they gain increasingly earth-based powers, such as being able to create clouds of blinding dust with their crush attack, summoning an earth elemental, and petrifying those slain by their breath weapon. A dilung's breath weapon is a conical barrage of piercing thorns.

Infused with the power of waves and storms, sea dragons—or jiaolungs, as they are known in many lands—are draconic protectors of oceans and their creatures. Possessing tempestuous natures, sea dragons wander widely, sometimes claiming thousands of miles of ocean and coastlines as their protectorates. Obviously, their powers revolve around water, such as teleporting between bodies ofe water and creating tidal waves. Their breath weapon is a cone of super-heated steam, but those of at least Very Young age can also expel blasts of pressurized water.

Benevolent and noble, sky dragons, or tienlungs, are fearsome champions of good and protectors of those in need. They are often sought out for their wise council, which they grant only to the deserving and true. Their power over the sky increase as they age, to the point the oldest can knock fliers from the sky with their breath weapon, which is a cone of lightning. Old sky dragons can even affect creatures normally immune or resistant to lightning with their breath weapon.

Guardians of balance, sovereign dragons, or lungwangs as they are also known, were placed in the skies by the gods themselves to safeguard harmony in the world. The magical powers of a sovereign dragon relate to its rulership, such as having greater potency against creatures of good and evil, summoning magical golden armor, and an enhanced ability to counter both melee and magical attacks. Their breath weapon is a cone of sonic damage.

Underworld dragons—also called futsanglungs—are calculating, greedy creatures that carve great labyrinthine tunnels beneath the world, defending their hidden treasures. Preferring the earth to the heavens, they channel the fires of the world's core within their twisting, stonelike bodies and through flaming breath hot enough to turn granite into slag. The futsanglung is also a formidable melee opponent, as their claws are made of adamantine and rip through their foes as you'd expect. They burrow with ever-increasing speed, and great wyrms can surface in an eruption of molten lava.
