A '''troll''' is a person who posts inflammatory comments in an attempt to start a fight on the internet. The term itself originated from the trolling fishing method.

As most species of mythological troll can only be totally defeated through the use of fire or acid, many internet users assume this will be true of the internet troll. However, the internet troll is a [[Powergamer|Min-Maxing Powergaming Wanker]], and always has some combination of templates and one-level PrC dips to make it immune to Flaming attacks, or worse still is able to feed off them and increase its Trolling ability. This is the reason 3 trolls seem to pop back up and start three more worthless RAGE threads for every one that is defeated by logic or sage, neither of which are listed as doing fire or acid damage in the [[Dungeon Master's Guide|DMG]] or [[Player's Handbook|PHB]].

==Rating a troll==
Trolls are to be given a rating on a scale of 1 to 10, based on how subtle they are in their trolling, whether or not it's an amusing troll, and the general quality of their post. This type of contentless post can also be a troll.

For example:
Racial and sexist slurs, name calling and childish insults merit -1/10.

"Hey gaiz, 4e lolololol", merits a 0/10. Everything slightly above that merits "made me reply/10".

There are no other examples of a 10/10 by an individual troll at this time, as trolls are usually physical and/or mental children who aren't intelligent enough to post quality material. Having said that, some theorize that 10/10 trolls are only rarely identified because their victims never actually realize they're being trolled, since the trolling is [[RAGE]]worthy and artful enough to merit 10s, and the victims are thus distracted by other concerns such as removing their own lower jaws and bludgeoning themselves to death with them. Groups of trolls have been known to combine their forces, mostly by sheer chance, and this can create some of the dankest of attacks. Noted in the "How to triforce for newfags" incident back in 2009.

===/tg/ rating system===
An alternative rating system has been suggested for [[/tg/]] in which one adds or subtracts points based on the success of the troll. While trolling is mostly a subjective experience, users are encouraged to try to objectively rate based on cleverness and creativity of the troll post in question. In general, zero points are to be awarded for common and obvious things that fail to induce responses or anger. This usually indicates laziness and lack of cunning. The majority of troll posts on the internet would probably be rated a zero. Examples would be:

*Posting copypasta designed to induce rage. We've all seen it.
*Posting an image of text instead of an actual relevant image.

If the troll post is good enough to earn some points, points should then be deducted for things that make the troll more obvious, or which indicate they're completely clueless about what they're supposed to be doing. Deductions are for particularly uncreative or stupid people attempting to troll. Indicators of this are things like:

*Using a name or tripcode.
*Using an avatar in combination with a name or tripcode, forcing a personality.
*Bad grammar or spelling, especially common grammatical errors like misuse of "your" and "you're," "its" and "it's", or the use of incorrect phrases like "should of."
*Obvious lack of knowledge on the subject he/she is trolling.
*Anything indicating the troll is under the age of a majority of the site's posters.
*Spamming the same thing over and over again.

Points are awarded on the rare occasion that a post elicits a true emotional response from not only the judge, but most of the board as well. Some things that are awarded points are posted repeatedly, but as long as they continue to make fa/tg/uys sputter and froth through rolls of quiverfat, they should still warrant at least a point. The material is either generating rage on its own or the troll is a creative and astute one. Again, trolls warranting any points at all are exceedingly rare, and can sometimes go undetected for long periods of time. Examples of this are:
*Posting furry art. As often as it's done, it should be worth no points, but it never fails to create a thread that always reaches maximum post count.
*Posting furry art that you drew for /tg/ containing /tg/ characters. [[Flare|This]] can sometimes even make a mod rage and order a ban. Always guaranteed to reach autosage if it doesn't get deleted first.
*Posting furry porn causes everyone involved to lose their minds in collective frothing rage, but it is so easy that only half the points should be awarded.
*Making a long, seemingly knowledgeable and well-written post with a few factual or [[fluff]] errors intentionally slipped in. Most people won't notice them but a few fa/tg/uys and [[Neckbeards]] are guaranteed to see it and write long, rage-filled posts on how the poster is WRONG WRONG WRONG. Bonus points are awarded if other people who don't see the errors quote the post somewhere, believing it all to be accurate.

Judges may write up a brief report on why the troll post received the score it did.

==How Not to be Trolled==

Seriously, that's it. That's literally all it takes. However boundlessly noble and correct your reasoning may be for posting in an obvious troll thread, IT STILL FEEDS THE TROLL. The response you've prepared is undoubtedly quite witty, thorough, and undeniably right, but please, for the love of God, don't post it. Not even with sage; sage posts do not count against the bump limit or the image limit, and will inevitably be answered by the troll. Remember they're called "trolls" after a type of bait fishing, so if you don't take the bait, they have no power. Also remember Alfred's story in the ''The Dark Knight'' about the caravan raider who was stealing precious stones and then throwing them away: "So why steal them?" Bruce Wayne asks. "Well, because he thought it was good sport," Alfred explains. "Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn." Maybe a bit melodramatic for our purposes, but that's the basic principle a troll acts upon.

While it is possible to countertroll (not only refuting the troll but saying something to upset them instead) don't. In addition to becoming the very monster you're fighting, this takes a lot of skill, personal knowledge of the troll and a degree of malice to pull off and could have far-reaching consequences. Many people who troll and aren't sadistic people have serious issues and are easily upset. Whether or not you believe the Bible, not for nothing does it say "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Proverbs 18:21 (people have killed themselves over cyberbullying, which can just involve mean messages).

If you simply ignore the troll, report as many of his/her posts as you have the patience for, and [http://4chan.wrathfilledhate.net/#post-hiding hide the thread], the troll will either starve or be swept up by one of the local janitors (who, unlike the mods, have been known to show up occasionally). The other option is to stay off the internet entirely, but since you're on here, I'm guessing that'd be like chopping every other toe and finger off.

The last and most desperate option is to simply exterminate '''EVERYTHING''', then do the same to the leftovers and then again even when there is nothing left, not even the matter of it, not even the ATOMS! NOTHING! PURGE IT ALL!!!!

==Fantasy trolls==
Oh, you wanted to know about these, eh?

Trolls originated in European mythology, with the iconic forms hailing from Scandinavian myths, though similar creatures like ''[[Oni]]'' or even Bigfoot exist in other cultures. Other than that, it's really hard to pin down what a "troll" officially is. According to [[TVTropes]], this is because whenever one european culture didn't have a word for one of the mosnters in another one's folklore, it was translated simply as "troll." Often they're big dumb brutes who turn to stone in sun light; one of the most well-known examples of these in fantasy literature would be the three trolls in [[Tolkien]]'s ''[[The Hobbit]]''. Norse myths go further and say these trolls are descended from or otherwise related to [[giant]]s, or ''Jötnar''. Other times, they are portrayed as smaller, social beings that can turn invisible and hoard gold and treasure, a bit like [[dwarf|dwarves]] or [[gnome]]s. They're usually portrayed as fairly ugly, but not always; female trolls being [[monstergirls|surprisingly gorgeous, if inhuman]] isn't unheard of - for example, the Scandinavian [[Huldra]] is technically a female troll, but looks more like a [[nymph]] with a fox's or cow's tail, and/or a back that is either covered in bark or "hollow like a rotting tree", who just so happens to be as strong as ten men and very interested in securing a human husband.

In fantasy gaming, trolls are typically the next step up from or equivalent to [[ogre]]s in the scale of "monstrous humanoids". Generally regarded as being giant-kin, due to the giant/troll/ogre overlap in European folklore, trolls are usually portrayed as being incredible dim-witted but savage, strong and tough. They may also have one or two innate magical abilities to further differentiate them from ogres, with the most iconic of these being the ability to regenerate, thanks to the influence of [[Dungeons & Dragons]].

The D&D Troll (and, by extension, the [[Pathfinder]] Troll) is a lesser [[giant]]-offshoot race who are somewhere between ogres and hill giants in size, but not quite as stupid as either. However, they are still utterly savage due to an intense hunger, a side-effect of their powerful regenerative abilities. Nullified only by acid or fire, trollish regeneration has risen and fallen in terms of raw power over the edition - back in [[Advanced Dungeons & Dragons]], for example, they literally ''could not die'' unless you burned the corpse with fire or chemicals, although certain "bodily destructive" spells like Disintegrate or Petrify could usually kill them as well, if your DM agreed.

D&D trolls were also highly mutable, with many different varieties arising as a result of dwelling place (the Scrags are amphibious trolls who need to be immersed in water to regenerate) or a result of hybridization with other giants (two-headed trolls descending from troll/[[ettin]] crossbreeding). Between the sheer variety of trolls, plus the addition of templates in 3.5, fighting them could be just as frustrating as fighting [[slime]]s as you tried to figure out what you were battling (for example, is it a Rock Troll, who only dies to Acid or Sonic Attacks? Or a Fire Troll, who only dies to Cold and Acid?) and how to kill it. In fact, with the right templates, a killer DM style [[GM|gamesmaster]] could build a troll you could only kill if you ''strangled or drowned it''.

Before you ask why D&D trolls regenerate, apparently it's because they were inspired by Poul Anderson’s ''Three Hearts and Three Lions'', where regenerating trolls are an enemy defeated at one point.

D&D Trolls have their own [[god]] (or at least [[Demon Prince]]) named [[Vaprak]].

In [[Shadowrun]], trolls are essentially the game's equivalent to ogres, being a relative of the [[orc]] metahuman strain who grows even larger and more powerful, with pronounced bony growths, mostly in the form of long, curling, ram-like horns sprouting from the skull. Like orcs, they serve as a stand-in for real-world racial minorities in many ways.

In [[Warhammer]] Fantasy, trolls are one of the races allied with the [[Orcs & Goblins]] army, being one of the few creatures even stupider and more brutal than the greenskins. These ogre-like [[Chaos]]-touched humanoids are mindless predators, who'll eat just about anything courtesy of hyper-corrosive stomach juices. This meant that not only could they regenerate and appear in mutant varieties for more killing power (rock trolls that were magic resistant due to turning partially into living stone as a result of eating too much rock, for example), but they could also wipe out whole regiments of heavily armoured foes by puking on them. For many years GeeDubs had managed to acquire (re: Throw some food towards and then beat them around the head) some Stone Trolls to provide menial labour in their Mail Order division. However after a dispute, they demanded to be renamed something less conspicuous to what they actually were. After all, it is hard to kill and eat interns if they can see the obvious signs of troll life in the warehouse. They're renamed to 'Troggoth' in [[Age of Sigmar]].

[[Monster Hunter International]] Trolls are much like the D&D Troll. They are big, green, ugly, strong and regenerate while being weak to fire. There's one critical difference though: They're also highly proficient at non-in-person communication methods. In the past they were primarily mail and phone scammers (eg Nigerian prince). Now they are hackers and, yes, '''internet''' trolls.

===D&D Troll PCs===
In BECMI, Trolls were amongst the "humanoid" races given a PC writeup in the Orcs of Thar splatbook. They stand out for having the highest XP requirements in the game, but between their regeneration ability and the ridiculously high (for the edition) number of hit points they were scoring? It was kind of justified.

Troll [[monstergirl]]s are a touch rare, mostly because, due to what defines a troll being so diverse, they are all-too-often easily confused with [[ogre]] monstergirls.

An artist called F.K. Andersson portrays his female trolls as inspired by Shadowrun's trolls; tall, curvaceous [[musclegirl]]s with lion-like tails, cute little tusks, and curling ram-like horns. They regularly seek out humans to interbreed with (as do their male counterparts, who are likewise portrayed as fairly handsome) because prolonged interbreeding with only trolls causes them to devolve into hideous, mindless monsters, forcing them to regularly "supplement" their blood with human blood. Still, the couples tend to be happy.

The [[Huldra]] is an actual mythical "troll" who is portrayed as being both very attractive and very interested in winning herself a human husband.

The [[Monster Girl Encyclopedia]] bases its trolls on Germanic myths, predominantly Swedish; their trolls are shy, gentle and affectionate humanoids with big ears, oversized hands & feet, and cute little cow-like tails. They suffer an inferiority complex about their appendages, as well as their strongly arousing feminine musk, and so decorate themselves with flowers to try and make themselves "look pretty". They possess a powerful natural affinity for earth [[elementalism]], and some forward-thinking individuals have actually sought them out as brides, hoping that when the Demon Lord finally gets past the Chief God's "no men born of monsters!" curse, their sons will likewise be powerful [[wizard]]s with prodigious affinity for the magics of earth and plants.

The Canadian Forces have earned and maintained an enviable reputation as crack assault troops over the course of their history, and the infantry are the centerpiece of that legend. The Canadian rifleman has much in common with both his British and American counterparts, sporting equipment from all across the globe. The Canadian infantry contribution to NATO's war effort are split into two multi-battalion-sized Regiments: The Royal 22e Régiment "''Vandoos''" and the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (or PPCLI, incorrectly labeled as the PPLI in the Free Nations book), who bring Franco-Canadian vitriol and Prairie fire respectively. Packing C1A1 FALs, C2 SAWs, M72 launchers, 60mm mortars, the Carl Gustav and a big fat .50 cal MG, these men are ready to start counting kills.

If you can get them within about 16"/40cm of the baddies, these guys will easily earn back their point cost. Beyond that? Well...

They're very similar to the [[British Mechanized Company|Brits]], but are are more offensive by nature of their equipment. While their ROF and firepower values can both be quite intensive, their entire arsenal is frustratingly short ranged. Not a single tool they have is effective outside the 40cm mark, and lacking IR can worsen this for night fighting. As a consequence, retaining their 3+ skill rating is a godsend. Canadians will have an easier time making movement orders than a lot of their [[US Mech Platoon|NATO counterparts]] (and all of their [[Motor Rifle Company|PACT rivals]]), therefore permitting them to maneuver across the board at a more efficient rate. This kind of hopping around will be required to line up the shots necessary to make their output count, and to avoid getting whittled down before they can bring their potential to bear. Almost all of your infantry teams have some form of AT, so anything dumb enough to get close enough and flash its side armour ''will'' die. If you do find a nice and cozy spot to open up, put the C5 GMPG to work. With ROF 5, it will eat up PACT infantry while providing cover for your other teams with unaltered moving ROF to push forward.

In summary, Canadian infantry are best used for the fairly standard roles of holding objectives, denying ground, and blowing up fortified enemies. Despite this, don't discount how they're capable of some reliable and unorthodox tactics thanks to free smoke, a big honkin' machine gun and a better skill value. They won't keep pace with your [[Leopard 1#Canada|Leopard C1's]] once disembarked, but will still be able to consistently outpace most other flavours of infantry. The [[M113 Armored Personnel Carrier#Canada|M113 transports]] that come attached are nothing special outside of their armour value, but are just what you need to get the infantry into a position where they can hit the ground running and do some damage.

From the Boer Wars to Korea, through both the World Wars, the Canadians built up a strong and storied wartime history. Boasting having never lost a war, it's not hard to see why. Known for being relentless attackers, the Canucks would never allow their enemies to rest under a constant barrage of precise shelling, sniper fire and nighttime raids. According to the official Canadian military history, the Germans loathed fighting them so much that they named the Canadians as the "''White Gurkhas''" as early as 1916. It is worth noting that there exists a debate as to whether or not this was all more reputation than reality, but the Canadian Forces definitely became known as some of the finest, most accurate shock troops the world had ever seen.

The ''Vandoos'' and the PPCLI are both Regiments with a storied history of their own, with the latter being formed for the First World War and the former being associated with the founding of Canada itself. Becoming mechanized towards the tail end of WW2 thanks to the local proliferation of "Kanagroo" type APC vehicles, they both had been adjusted in size to contain several Battalions instead of being Battalion-sized themselves. Ever since then, the Canadian forces in general had adopted and stuck to local variants of the M113 and FAL as soon as either were available, though plans to modernize and replace this equipment had been in place by 1985. As the case is here, Canadian equipment tended to lag behind the rest of NATO in terms of the technological cutting edge. Units often found themselves acquiring equivalent weapons and gear a fair while after their allies. This was said to be offset by the quality of the men who carried them, though again, there continues to be a debate as to the reality of such statements. Regardless, the stats presented for Team Yankee certainly reflect that emphasis on skill at arms.

It's more likely than you think: after decades of TV and movies telling people that Christians are dumb, being religious and moral is the new way to rebel, although most of the people there are seem to be quite aware about different aspects of faith rather than simply LARP (looking at you, /pol/) and there is known to be atleast one priest who frequently posted there. Far more overlap with /tg/ than you would expect, since Christianity related threads were always a thing on /tg/ and due to fact that large chunk of users are actual fa/tg/uys. This leads to interesting discussion when topics like historical roleplaying and world-building come up and occasional resurgence of clearly /tg/ threads. Asides all of this, its a no-brainer that 40k and its memes are quite popular there to say the least. 8chan has been blocked in Italy due to pedopornography.

The shooting in El Paso, Texas on the 3rd of August was meant to mirror the Christchurch attacks and it was widely reported that the manifesto of the shooter, who claimed to be acting to protect the environment from the American lifestyle, was posted on 8chan's /pol/ a little under 30 minutes before the shooting. This comes after both the Christchurch shooter and the Poway shooter manifestos were widely reposted on 8chan. Former admin Hotwheels, who had by now distanced himself from the site and most of his older views, said to "shut it down," saying that the site isn't good for anybody. This controversy caused DDOS protection Cloudflare to drop the site, despite their earlier claims such actions would be a terrible attack on free speech. 8ch briefly went live with an alternative DDOS protection, but that service rented hardware from Vultr and Voxility who breached contract with the provider by withdrawing service in a way not allowed by their contract. This left 8ch dead again. For multiple days 8ch was viewable read only, without images, with direct IP connection, but this too has gone offline. According to the official Twitter account 8ch is still preparing a comeback.

==Overview==
The Nazis' initial success can be attributed to the image of glorious economic recovery, part of which they accomplished by keeping Germany's economy running during The Great Depression. They presented this to the rest of the world, making many people believe the little mustachioed guy couldn't be that crazy since he'd made his country recover brilliantly in very little time. And while Germany did indeed recover, the whole thing was helped and held upright by [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mefo_bills MEFO bills]: basically a Ponzi scheme that allowed the government to loan money on the sly through a front company about metallurgy research (the ''Metallurgische Forschungsgesellschaft'', or MEFO in short). This allowed them to work at a much higher level of debt flotation than allowed by international regulation, and the idea was to pay back the loans with seized gold and valuables from Jews at first, and then directly from conquered nations after the war went on, since even [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_bond state created debt bonds] are exactly that: debt, credit, which is trust. Eventually the creditor will want something in exchange (or at the very least get his investment back) or the debtor's credibility will be shattered, stopping the money flow.

To give you a clearer idea of what happened: imagine spending money from a credit card, raising the debt until being near broke to make the rest of the world believe you are rich. But still, your neighbors don't lend you a dime for making guns. So what you do? You make up a credit card called Mefocard, borrow even more wildly to create weapons promising you'll pay the debt back... Then attempt to kill the lenders and subjugate their families to share the debt you have. It was simply a continent wide, all-or-nothing robbery attempt even wilder than WW1's trench-fighting Imperial duel.

Needless to say, it was the reason why the scenario of not waging war (like in Hearts of Iron or some alternate reality stories) simply wasn't a realistic option. Despite their multiple annexations of territory, the Nazis couldn't sustain their charade without the influx of riches and materiel from other conquered territories. So they soon mobilized their armies and launched a war of expansion on the rest of the world, starting with Poland. (The question is still open among historians as whether they annexed enough reserves with Czechoslovakia to keep the charade up "peacefully" long enough to let their Red "ally" make the opening move instead, but that's a discussion for another place and time.)

Their goal (next to getting gold and industrial materials to pay the enormous gambling debt of an empire) was to impose their militaristic Social Darwin ideology across Europe, outlaw any dissenting school of thought, enslave all the "sub-human" Slavs (after starving to death more than half of them in accordance to Generalplan Ost) and exterminate any "undesirables" (Jews, Roma, homosexuals, etc) on which they blamed all their problems because they felt that they were superhumans without any flaws; any problem which they suffered had to be the fault of some subversive "other" from outside who tried to cause the Master Race misery for no other reason than "teh Evulz". But due to some severe strategic fuck ups from Hitler - who often overruled his military leadership - Germany ended up in a three-way war with the Soviet Union (who provided blood), Great Britain (overseas bases) & the United States (more armaments than you can possibly dream of with an extra helping on top), while their major allies such as Romania & Italy surrendered during the middle years of the war.

While Germany may have had some areas of technological advantage (at least initially and this is often overstated), by the end of the war they struggled with the lack of many strategic resources and dislocation of production lines and reverted to some crude solutions. Along with a chronic shortage of secure OIL there was no hope of repulsing both the Western Allies and the Soviet Union at the same time; thus the Nazi regime finally met its end when the allies marched into Berlin and Hitler {{*BLAM*}}med himself along with his mad-as-a-hatter common-law wife. While their hate-wagon managed to go far and overrun most of Europe it simply had too much war to fight on multiple fronts, a lack of effective strategic planning in the form of Hitler and his cronies and as most powerful nations of the time opposed them either because they cherished their political freedoms, saw their economies fail, or simply were on the Nazi "to-exterminate" list.

Then the current situation in Europe becomes doubly hilarious now that the old continent has had a massive immigration problem after the Nazi regime, a considerable Muslim and African minority to fill the gap in labor specifically because of the clusterfuck known as the Second World War; said Muslim and African minority would never have taken root in Europe if Hitler's [[edgy]] autistic rage did not finally break the mold of xenophobia around the planet. Because humanity needed to push [[Slaanesh|any excess to its breaking point]] [[Derp|to HOPEFULLY learn restraint]], preferably not destroying the planet in the process.

==Nazi Portrayals in Fiction==
Nazis are portrayed as an over the top wacky military who like leading crusades against the jews (and other people) and build secret bases on the moon, under water, or some other silly place. Their technology was always exaggerated with laser weapons, giant robots, walking tanks, and Robo-Hitler. Some vidya portrayals even goes so far as to put it all together in a big ball of [[LOLWUT]] and add a touch of magical voodoo shit because nazis are crazy and if the name isn't obvious they aren't, we're going to make sure it does.

Varying opinions on the perceived Nazi character allows them to be looked at from varying points of view, developing their character all the more. Take the [[Imperium of Man]], for example. Some will say that the Imperium's a nuthouse since they're willing to allow an Inquisitor to turn an entire hive spire into a towering inferno if he so happens to find a single heretic in{{*BLAM*}} {{BLAM|SPEAKING ILL OF THE IMPERIUM IS EXTRA HERESY.}}

Some will say that the Imperium's just being pragmatic and such an action is justifiable as the Imperium is constantly beset by merciless foes who will not think twice to bring them down, as such their method for survival is cruel, but necessary. Which, given the fact that daemons really do exist and can corrupt entire planets in a short amount of time, is pretty justifiable. Even the Imperium's xenophobia is justifiable given how nearly [[Orks|all]] the [[Necrons|major]] [[Tyranids|races]] pretty much want to wipe everyone else out or [[Dark Eldar|enslave them]].

But that doesn't change the fact that these reasons are often just used as an excuse to torture and kill anyone who's even s{{BLAM}}

===Impact on Fantasy===
In terms of military logistics, the Germans had hands down one of the best armies of the time, well disciplined and well trained with experienced mid-level officers; this combined with borderline insane levels of morale at the start of the war due to years of giving the middle finger to the war wary western nations which capitulated to their demands, and turned the German into an unholy Juggernaut. The Germans were known to have some of the best armored tanks in the war, their small arms far outstripped the guns Europe had at the time, and were pioneers to many advanced technologies during their time that have become well known today, like jet engines, cruise missile systems, fully automatic rifles(even with battery-run night scopes around '44), stealth craft, and many others.

This, combined with their infamous cruelty, have spawned the Nazi-esque villain template where the villains are both powerful and [[Eldrad|gigantic dicks]] to everyone else, making them completely despicable. This is because if the villain is significantly weaker than the protagonist of the setting, most people will still feel a few grains of sympathy towards the former or make them a laughing stock. But, when you make the villain both an enormous asshole and just as or more powerful than the protagonist, all bets are off and he's fair game.

Of course, the weaknesses of Nazism also need to be taken into account, in that a lot of their supposedly superior technology turned out to be highly unstable and would frequently be outclassed and definitely outnumbered by Allied designs once the latter got their shit together. This was even true at the start of the war; British Matilda II's were all but immune to German tank fire, and a column of them almost stopped Rommel at the Battle of Arras. Add poorly managed industry and the fact that supplies at times were delivered by horse (which was not actually that atypical, since only America and early war Britain were that ridiculously mechanized), and you have a faction that is the epitome of [[Chaos Space Marines|style over substance]]. This really bit them in the ass later when the Allies, [[Imperial Guard|focusing on production and strategy over science fiction and "tactics"]], managed to leg up the Third Reich and battle-hardened Allied soldiers became the top dogs without question. In fiction, expect the Nazi villains to have eventually have their technology outclassed or at least made irrelevant and the hardened heroes turn Nazi soldiers into cannon fodder.

Nazis are the progenitors of all acceptable targets where human bad guys are concerned. Be it in vidya games or movies, nobody has a problem with Nazis getting gunned down by the hundreds by the heroes, and they don't even have to resort to the dehumanizing full helmets that most other villain goons have to wear to make slaughtering them okay.

A more comedic take on Nazis in fiction owes to wartime cartoons, where the soldiers and Nazi command are all bumbling idiots, with comedy brought to you by Walt Disney and Warner Bros. Hitler today has essentially been turned into a punchline with all the gags centered around him, which is kinda awesome when you think about it, as dictators that wish to be feared would never want to be remembered as a joke.

*The [[Skaven]] from [[Warhammer Fantasy]] and later [[Age of Sigmar]] borrow many Nazi-esque elements, which in turn makes them the most vile and evil race in the World That Was... Only it's taken to its logical extreme, as with many things Warhammer. Nazis had a hatred for what they believed was üntermenschen and believed the "Aryan" race was most pure, while the Skaven hate all other living things, including their own race, with each individual believing only themselves to be worth anything. Pack in some advanced Wunderwaffen, magical nuclear power in the form of Warpstone and chemical weapons as well and you have a solid, if over-the-top Nazi fantasy faction is for you.

*The most extensive take on the theme of Space Nazis would be the Helghast from ''Killzone'', where the people of Helgan see the ISA as Imperialist gits who forced them out of their planet for refusing their rule. Although by Shadow Fall, they become akin to Communist East Germans, being filled with political radicals and separated by a wall and all.

*If you have a fantasy/sci-fi world, it will almost certainly have some sort of Nazi analogue floating around. At the same time, Nazis also figure into a lot of [[Alternate History|alternate history]] fiction: Nazis invading England, Nazis invading America, Nazis successfully conquering the USSR, Nazis getting the Bomb first, Nazis creating an army of mutant uber-troopers, Nazis on the Moon, Nazis using occult powers to summon demons to aid them, all of these have been done. The Nazi obsession in alternate history is largely due to the fact that we consider them evil (for the right reasons), and our modern world is the result of an Allied victory. A Nazi victory, to us, is just unthinkable.

==Nazis and [[/tg/]]==
Long ago, /tg/ realized something that most competent GMs have: Nazis represent a great liberating force for any GM, for they represent a force that any player need not feel any remorse over resorting to violence against, because Nazis are the textbook template for villains in most settings. They desire world domination, see themselves as the apex species and view most others with utter contempt, wanton disregard for common life, have an industry primarily geared towards war, are the most powerful warmongers, and they have that evil-yet-sublime aesthetic to their armies. Nazis are a modern setting variant of using [[slavery|slavers]] as your enemy in a fantasy game: they have little to no redeeming values, so they're great enemy fodder.

The association gives the players a motivation and creates the understanding that these people are Completely Evil™, allowing the GM to focus on other aspects of the story. Indeed, one can get similar results by simply providing details that lead us to conclude that any group you are facing off against are this universe's version of Nazis. That said, that same context makes using Nazis a double-edged sword, and a lazy GM (or author, script writer, or whatever; this is hardly unique to roleplaying) can royally screw up if one uses them incorrectly. Used incorrectly, Nazis become a kitten-eating one-dimensional caricature of villains descended into self-parody, which ''can'' work if the world is built for it. Kitten-eating Nazis work best in "goofy" settings where it's fully possible, and indeed expected for the final boss to be Hitler himself riding a cyborg dinosaur, but in a setting trying to take itself seriously, such flat villains do just that - fall flat and fail to incite the proper emotional reaction. Remember that the '''key''' to successful Nazi use is that emotional reaction. That exportation of real world baggage is the point, perhaps the sole point to use Nazis over some other villain. Nazis have the additional problem of not even needing to be exaggerated that much to make the worst of them into something like this. So care must be taken when one plays the Nazi card, or it will come off as trite.

Entire stretches of [[d20 Modern|d20 Past]] are shown various ways to implement ''Indiana Jones''-style Nazis into any campaign during the early 1900s, and [[Savage Worlds]] has an entire supplement devoted to thwarting Nazi super-soldier plans during WWII. More clever GMs can do even more interesting things with it, such as backing up the savagery of the Nazis with [[Fist of the North Star|a humanizing element to make them more understandable, even if antagonists]], whilst another interesting setting, proposed for [[GURPS]], starts the players off ''as'' Nazis and has them turn against their former comrades as the movement becomes harder and harder to justify. It's also worth remembering that Nazis can be used for comedy as well. All of these lead to some pretty great storytelling, just so long as the GM knows how to play them correctly and prevent them from becoming a wackier version of an [[Ork]].

...And then you have [[Racial Holy War|this bullshit]], which misses the point entirely and renders us all stupider for the knowledge of its existence.
