Yuan-ti are a race of monsters from Dungeons & Dragons based on the serpentfolk archetype, although somewhat more flexible in terms of being human/snake mishmashes than is usual.

They are of particular prominence in the Forgotten Realms setting, where they used to rule the world, or at least are one of the direct successors to a pre-humanoid empire, and in Eberron, where they have coatl-based good-aligned counterparts who serve the Silver Flame . In generic D&D, they are usually portrayed as descendants of mad serpent-worshipping witch-cults that fused and interbred with snakes in order to "evolve" into superior beings. Perhaps as a result of this, yuan-ti are commonly portrayed as having not only unusual, snake-based magical spells, but a natural talent for psionics.

Zehir is their racial deity. Unusually this wasn't revealed till late 3.5 and he's not actually in any books from that era. His debut was as the ultimate antagonist of Storm of Zehir, the second expansion pack of Neverwinter Nights 2, which means there is plenty of Yuan-ti stuff in the campaign. Before this retcon, they originally worshiped Merrshaulk, but later switched to Sseth, who was later replaced without the Yuan-ti realizing it by Set, although currently it seems that Set and Zehir were the same god all along.

According to the book Serpent Kingdoms, the Yuan-ti were originally created as a servant race by an older race of snake people called the Sarrukh, who also created several other Scalykind races, but the Yuan-ti rebelled and nearly drove them to extinction. This was only canon to Forgotten Realms and has been ignored in later editions. Some heretical Yuan-ti claim that their creator actually was Sertrous.

There are six tiers of Yuan-ti, ranked based on their proportion of snake features (with the exception of broodguards).

Purebloods are mostly human, with minimalistic serpentine traits that are easy to conceal (a forked tongue, snake-like eyes, a body covered in very pliant scales colored like human skin, a vestigial tail, snake fang-like canines, small patches of visible scales etc). Because yuan-ti worship snakes, these guys are actually on the bottom of the pecking order in their own society, although they are useful for infiltrating humanoid societies. In 5th edition, the fact they spend a lot of time around humans, where they have much more freedom and respect than they do at home, was used as an excuse to give them PC stats.

Malisons are more drastically serpentine, which boosts them above Purebloods in the pecking order. This subspecies exemplifies the mutability of the yuan-ti; in 5th edition, at least, there are five recognized "forms" of malison, and many variations within those form archetypes. One type looks a lot like the "common" vision of a lamia, having a human upper torso and a giant snake's body in lieu of legs. Two other types look like humans with either serpent heads or serpent tails in place of arms (the mouth-handed ones are higher up the pecking order). One type looks like a human with a snake's head. And the last known type, lowliest of all, simply looks like a human with scaly skin.

Abominations are the most iconic and, in their own culture, favored of their breed. These look like either giant snakes with humanoid arms or lamias with scaly skin and a snake-like head. These guys are the undisputed top of the totem pole... except for one last class;

Anathemas, are essentially a hydra version of abominations; bigger, claw-fingered, and with six snake's heads in place of one. Anathemae are worshipped as demigods. Depending on the setting, they are either the rulers of the entire race, or they may just be the leaders of their own small cults because their presence is destabilizing to Yuan-ti society so they are cast out of Yuan-ti cities. The 4th edition version of the anathema instead looks like a large snake's head attached to a body made out of numerous smaller snakes. They were once the rulers of the Yuan-ti race before all of them went insane and were locked up.

There also are two other types of Yuan-ti called brood guards and tainted ones that are below even Pureboods. Both of these are created by transforming humans using a potion made of Yuan-ti venom. Brood guards are ugly and unintelligent reptilian creatures that the Yuan-ti use for guarding their eggs. Tainted ones are similar to purebloods but their snake features are even more subtle, so they are used as infiltrators.

There are roughly three tiers of Yuan-ti, based on the precise ratio of serpent to human.

Abominations are the most iconic and, in their own culture, favored of their breed. These look like either giant snakes with humanoid arms or lamias with scaly skin and a snake-like head. These guys are the undisputed top of the totem pole... except for one last class; Anathemas, at least in 5e, are essentially a hydra version of abominations; bigger, claw-fingered, and with six snake's heads in place of one. Anathemae are worshipped as demigods. Depending on the setting, they are either the rulers of the entire race, or they may just be the leaders of their own small cults because their presence is destabilizing to Yuan-ti society as a whole.

There also are two other types of Yuan-ti called brood guards and tainted ones. Both of these are created by using a poison to transform humans into them. Brood guards are ugly and unintelligent reptilian creatures that the Yuan-ti use for guarding their eggs. Tainted ones are similar to purebloods but their snake features are even more subtle, so they are used as infiltrators.
Merrshaulk is one of the main deities of the Yuan-ti species in the core D&D setting, but in the Forgotten Realms setting, Merrshaulk is just one in a line of snake deities since they tend to fall asleep and get replaced.

History
In the beginning, there was just one deific overbeing: the World Serpent, (called "Mok'Slyk" in the Greyhawk setting) which for D&D is practically the Ouroboros, a creature of incalculable and eternal power on a scale similar to the Lady of Pain or Ao and was worshipped by the progenitor races.

Over time, those ancient empires fragmented into smaller kingdoms who brought unique aspects of worship with them, breaking the World Serpent into smaller deities, forgetting the original World Serpent and depriving it of power to the point that it no longer grants spells or answers prayers. In fact, the only being suspected to have any contact with the old "Serpent" is Vecna, who was supposedly trained by it. Though that may very well be just some mad ramblings.

Merrshaulk was the aspect of the World Serpent who took the portfolio of actual snakes and is worshipped by the Yuan-ti. Furthermore, Merrshaulk is a particularly nasty deity who demanded constant sacrifice, preferably willing Yuan-ti, but content to accept unwilling prisoners from other races if provided in bulk.
|Worshippers = Yuan-ti, Scalykind
|Favoured Weapon = Scimitar
}}
In the Forgotten Realms, Merrshaulk has been replaced by Sseth, the Slitherer Supreme.

During an early period of Faerun's history, Merrshaulk had grown tired and bored, and started forgetting to answer prayers or grant spells. Quite possibly because the rate of sacrifices offered had slowed to a trickle because younger races were starting to form their own empires and openly fighting back against the Yuan-ti.

Then one day, a winged Yuan-ti with a talent for giving speeches showed up and declared that he was the avatar of Merrshaulk reborn and that the Yuan-ti should start worshipping him instead. So when faced with the fact that this new guy would grant their spells and sleepy old Merrshaulk would not, the choice was clear.

Sseth was also probably a better deity politically compared to his predecessor, and was considerably more active during his tenure as the lord of snakes. While the new guy still demanded a constant flow of sacrifices; where the old religion was very primal and focussed on survival and animalistic hunger, Sseth by contrast was a god of secrets and intrigue. His rewards would be whispers of knowledge to grant advantage and further ambition. Sseth also taught his followers the magical rituals for transforming their human slaves into lesser Yuan-Ti called Histachii (or Broodguards). Sseth also quietly consumed the patron deity of the human city-state of Hlondeth: Varae and began answering prayers in their name. Though initially this was kept secret, Yuan-Ti cultists infiltrated the city and eventually took over it, spreading the faith of Varae (as Sseth) as far south as Calimshan.

However, some Yuan-ti disliked the new direction the church went in, finding it too decadent and indulgent and choose to continue worshipping Merrshaulk anyway, even though he doesn't actually answer prayers.
|Worshippers = Yuan-ti, Lycanthropes, Egyptians, Thieves, Assassins, Wizards
|Favoured Weapon = The Spear of Darkness (Spear)
}}
"Bitches for Thulsa Doom!"

Just like his predecessor, Sseth also became bored and sleepy, although he still granted spells even in his dreaming state. That was up until the Time of Troubles in the realms, where all of the gods were kicked out of their respective realms and forced to the mortal world until one of them owned up to stealing the tablets of fate from Ao.

During this time, the winged avatar of Sseth decided to go for another nap, but was captured by a mighty Sarrukh priest known as Pil'it'ith and imprisoned. Allowing his cult to be subsumed by another evil god of snakes called Set, who now grants all spells in Sseth's place, even though the Yuan-ti have no idea that the switch actually occurred.

Set; is the jealous personification of evil, and being a "human" deity obviously has far more followers than Sseth, and therefore more widespread appeal. This means that Set was likely to have more of a meaningful impact on the world than the successive serpent deities were managing to cobble together. He also has the added bonus of not following that trap of getting tired when sacrifices aren't being given, although presumably he's extremely happy to receive the bloody offerings whenever they're given.

Sseth still sleeps, hidden somewhere in the multiverse. His extent of contact with the outside world is an increasing number of disturbing visions being granted to his former followers in their dreams, though most of them don't have a clue what they're all about, other than getting a sense that their god is in trouble. Because his portfolio has been usurped it is likely that he won't last for very long, because gods thrive on the power of prayer and faith, so Sseth is likely getting starved to death. Those Yuan-ti that have the power and inclination to do anything about it simply don't know where to look, smarter Yuan-ti realise that their power and ability to look is being granted from a new source which probably doesn't want them looking in the first place.

While this largely applies mostly to the Forgotten Realms versions of Set and Sseth, later editions split them back apart again. After the 4E Spellplague Mulhorand was completely wiped from the map and Ao kicked out the pantheon, leaving nothing but mortal descendants of the old deities. Shortly after this Pil'it'ith and his heretic followers were killed in a Yuan'Ti uprising, leaving the floor for Sseth to return to prominence as Set faded from memory.

Worshippers
Being the primary deity of the Yuan-ti, Merrshaulk/Sseth/Set is obviously worshipped most strongly by Serpentfolk in general.

The whole thing about sacrificing living beings is considered a foregone conclusion in Yuan-ti society. Willing Serpentfolk are considered the most desirable to their god, and those who freely give themselves over to be sacrificed are treated like royalty for three days before the event, being denied nothing whether it be food, drugs, sex or even a simple demand for someone to give you their house for an afternoon. Non-Serpentfolk races are just lined up and get their hearts cut out.

Clerics of Sseth (and maybe Merrshaulk) get their divine calling directly from their deity, receiving a vision in their dreams. This means that there are little to no denominations of the church, since they all receive their instruction from the same source. It also means that you can't fake being a priest of the cult or turn your back on your faith, because all other priests can be told as soon as it happens.

Yuan-ti Cultist
The main prestige class for servants of Merrshaulk can be found in Savage Species, and unlike the watered down classes that the subsequent incarnations of the deity get (see below) the Yuan-ti Cultist is pretty awesome.

Firstly, they continue their divine spellcasting progression as normal and gain access to the bonus Suffering domain granting them new spells and a -2 STR & DEX debug with a touch.

They can also spit poison, do the Moses thing of turning sticks into snakes, and earn psionic powers that can cause increasing damage to enemy targets subject to Will saves, culminating in a Save vs Death (and take 6d6 damage if they pass).

The best bit about the class is the increasing induction into the inner circles of Merrshaulk's cult, which steadily improves the Cultist's social modifiers with other Yuan-ti, but also allows them to evolve into more powerful forms. Early on they learn a ritual to turn Purebloods into Half-bloods, and later learn another ritual for turning Half-bloods into Abominations
Eventually, they also become Outsiders as they become the "Voice of Merrshaulk", which also comes with Spell Resistance, Telepathic communication and the ability to Dominate other Yuan-ti.

Fangs of Sseth
A prestige class from Serpent Kingdoms which is essentially a Yuan-ti assassin. The are divine Assassins who live by a simple code which overrules any other orders handed down from priests: Do not harm other fangs of Sseth.

Beyond that, they act as spies and Assassins for Yuan-ti communities. They gain resistance to poisons, improved sneak attack damage, spider climb at will and oddly improved range BAB (but not melee). Their one cool feature is a divine vision from Sseth at level 8, which gives them a buff, making them utterly undetectable for 8 hours.

The class is actually pretty sucky, requiring you to waste some feats by taking mediocre ones just to qualify. Having only a 2+INT skill points per level progression. Any class features gained would probably be overtaken by a normal Assassin and it's coolest feature is a one time only deal.

Glorious Servitor (of Set)
Set's unique prestige class from Lost Empires of Faerun has nothing to do with snakes at all. It also requires Improved Turning and 2nd Level Divine casting as a prerequisite, but has nothing to do with them either

Instead, the Glorious Servitor prestige class let's you turn into a monstrous scorpion at level 1, then gives you increasing buffs as you progress, such as +6 AC and +3 STR while in animal form, and also giving Spell Resistance, Poison Immunity and eventual transformation into an Outsider. Despite the bizarre entry requirements, This class at least has an attempt to theme, but competes against a Druid for the shapeshifting party role. But is stuck with one form and no spell progression.

}}

}}

Flesh Golems, as their name suggests, are a kind of golem made from human flesh...

What? Alright, alright, we'll get serious. You're familiar with the story of Frankenstein's Monster? About a mad scientist trying to create life by stitching together a bunch of corpse pieces and zapping it with lightning? Well, Dungeons & Dragons never met an idea they couldn't steal, and so promptly co-opted the idea for their own setting.

Flesh Golems are created by taking parts from multiple corpses - and it always has to be multiple corpses, with Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder traditionally requiring 6; 4 separate limbs, 1 for the torso, and 1 for the brain (head optional) - and melding them together before animating them as a golem. Depending on the setting, this may or may not have certain advantages over the usual golems of clay or metal. At the very least, it tends to be easier and cheaper than the standard golem, but they're also more likely to run amuck.

Distinguished variants include more horrific and obviously undead forms of flesh golem (known variously as Zombie Golems and Carrion Golems) and the obvious sapient golem ala Frankenstein's Monster.

D&D
AD&D
Introduced in this edition as a "Lesser Golem", the Flesh Golem is a big, dumb, lumbering brute, mostly useful for its relative ease of construction. Hideously strong, it doesn't handle combat well, having a tendency to fly into a mindless berserk fury if forced to fight for too long (cumulative 1% chance per round). Immune to attacks from non-magical weapons, fire and cold-based spells only Slow them for a few rounds, whilst electrical attacks heal them (1 HP per damage die inflicted) instead of hurting them.

The same edition featured two variants, both native to Ravenloft.

The "Ravenloftian Flesh Golem" is a direct reference to Frankenstein's Monster, and is far more powerful than its standard cousin; it's more intelligent (sometimes to the point of true sentience, although in such cases the golem inevitably turns on its "master") and has great healing powers - it regains 1 hit point per hour and, if slain, can be resurrected by sewing up its wounds and jolting it with lightning. And those are just some of its powers. It does have a unique weakness, in that it takes significant damage from fire. Adam, Lamordia's Darklord, is the best known of these flesh golems.

The Zombie Golem is an even more grotesque version of the standard flesh golem, made from rotting flesh which later editions would specify have to be taken from bodies that had originally been animated as zombies. It's even more sluggish and stupid than a normal flesh golem, and lacks its standard magical defenses, but can't go berserk, can be healed by Animate Dead spells, and exudes a noxious stench akin to that of a Ghast.

Mystara is home to the "Drolem", which is what you get when you make a Flesh Golem out of Dragon bodyparts.

Flesh Golem PCs
The "Book of Secrets", #3 of the Books of S netbooks for Ravenloft, features an article called "Wretched Creations" which presents rules for playing a Flesh Golem PC in a game of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition.

D&D 3e & PF
The D&D 3e flesh golem appears in the first Monster Manual. It is essentially the same as its AD&D counterpart, save for one new trait; zapping it with lightning fixes any Slow effect it may be under, and also heals it instead of hurting it.

A 3e update for the Zombie Golem appeared in the Ravenloft Gazetteer #2.

The 3.5 book Heroes of Horror introduced the cadaver golem, an intelligent golem that can gain new skills and abilities by attaching new body parts from other creatures to itself.

Serpent Kingdoms introduced the serpentflesh golem, a golem made out of dead snakes or other scaly creatures. They usually are made by people who really hate Serpentfolk.

Pathfinder's flesh golem appeared in its first bestiary. Its equivalent to the Zombie Golem, the foul-smelling, disease carrying Carrion Golem, appeared in the 2nd Bestiary.

D&D 4e
There are multiple kinds of flesh golem in D&D 4e.

The standard Flesh Golem appeared in the Monster Manual 1 for this edition. It's pretty much the traditional D&D flesh golem; a cheap, low-level golem that stands out by being strong, tough & stupid, with a propensity to fly into berserk rages.

The Open Grave sourcebook features the Blaspheme, a direct reference to Frankenstein's Monster in the form of a unique undead created from multiple body parts, and the Cadaver Golem, a rare outcome where an attempt to create a flesh golem imbues it with its own sentience, which typically hates its creator. This is a reference to the Ravenloft Flesh Golem of

D&D 5e
Appearing in the Monster Manual, the 5e Flesh Golem mostly preserves its tradition of being a shambling, destructive, unstable brute, but with a few tweaks for the new edition. This is the first edition where the standard flesh golem had some kind of pyrophobia, in the form of suffering Disadvantage on its attack rolls and ability checks until the end of its next turn if it takes fire damage.

World of Darkness
Rules for crafting flesh golems as adversaries appeared in the New World of Darkness 1e sourcebook "Antagonists". This idea was then expanded upon to create the game-line Promethean: The Created, in which you basically play as different lineages of flesh golems.

Monstergirls?
Monstergirls

Now, you might think that in comparison to standard golems, flesh golems would never get the monstergirls treatment. After all, they're pretty much the necromancer version of the golem, right? Well, you're wrong: beside the fact that monstergirl zombies and ghouls are things, it does make a morbid sense. If you're crazy enough to gather corpse-bits, stitch them all together and bring them to life, why not try and do it with bits taken from dead women and make yourself a girlfriend out of it? Heck, there's even some actual movies along this theme, from the legendary Universal film "Bride of Frankenstein" to the infamous horror-comedy "Frankenhooker", in which a hapless mad scientist ends up building a strangely sexy super-slut female flesh golem from the bodies of dead whores.

The Book of Erotic Fantasy takes this to its conclusion with the Pleasure Golem, made from "extremely fresh" humanoid flesh and wax. Normally it looks like a bunch of stitched-together bodies but it can use Disguise Self at-will to look like anyone within the limits of the spell (this means on average in the 5'-7' range), so those who like them some shortstacks but also the more amazonian physique might be better off with two Pleasure Golems instead of one. Pleasure Golems have no minds of their own; instead they have a drive to deliver pleasure and have a semblance of life thanks to an infusion with a fire elemental. They cannot speak, but they can produce sexual noises. And it's worth noting that they always sound and feel the same (it's up in the air if this means that you'll be able to feel the stitchings), RAW Disguise Self can make them look, smell and taste differently. Certain Pleasure Golems are built with extreme docility in mind for the more... harsh of owners, so there's a rough 5% chance that a threatened Pleasure Golem will not fight back when attacked. When it is attacked however it can clumsily defend itself with its fist, and has the standard Construct immunities. The Pleasure Golem does have one crippling flaw: its Intoxicating Pheromones Extraordinary Ability. All creatures (but the text specifies this as mammalian) within 30' of a Pleasure Golem have to roll a DC15 Will save or come under effect of the Vision of Exquisite Pleasure spell. This flat-out STUNS the target for the spell's duration, and since you have to save every turn in the presence of a Pleasure Golem... well, you better hope your Will save lasts longer than you do.

If this isn't enough for you, the Scarred Lands sourcebook for "Shelzar, City of Sins" has a sidebar on page 63 introducing "Sex Constructs"; flesh golem-like entities engineered by perverse wizards in pursuit of the wealth of the most hedonistic and debauched nobles of this infamous city of carnal pleasures. The two specific types mentioned are the Sintaur, resembling a centaur whose lower body is made of two human lower torsos melded together, with each "foot" replaced by a dextrous, long-fingered human hand and each pair of leg-arms having its own set of attendant genitals, and female sintaurs having two to three pairs of "huge" breasts; and the Slavering Orificer, which is basically described as a Gibbering Mouther made out of vaginas instead of mouths and which is associated with revels of such debauchery that the construct often doesn't survive the orgy that centers on it. Truly, creations worthy of a Slaaneshii necromancer.

The Saurials are a race of humanoid dinosaurs from Dungeons & Dragons. Although published with statistics in the Forgotten Realms setting, their game-lore actually depicts them as hailing from another world entirely, as they had been brought to Toril by the malevolent deity Moander to serve as its slaves. This ploy was foiled, and the surviving Saurials have attempted to make a new home for themselves in the Lost Vale, where they were initially held prisoner.

Saurials were first introduced as part of the "Finder's Stone Trilogy" novels, and subsequently received racial writeups in both the Complete Book of Humanoids (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons) and in Dragon Magazine #292 (3.0), as well as appearing in monstrous write-up for AD&D in the Monstrous Compendium Forgotten Realms Appendix II and the Monstrous Compendium Annual III.

Saurials apparently come in many varieties, but because only four varieties made it to Faerun, we only know of these; Finheads (hadrosaurid), Bladeback (stegasaurid), Flyer (pteranodon), and Hornhead (ceratopsian). Their defining trait is that they can't speak Common; their voices are apparently "too high-pitched" for humans to make out, which is one of the stupidest racial quirks to come out of AD&D. Come 3rd edition, and it was retconned that they could learn to speak "deep-speech", but it was difficult and awkward for them, so many didn't bother.

They are notable as one of the very few demihuman races, alongside the Lupin and Rakasta who could actually be Paladins in AD&D - in fact, one of the warrior kits in the Complete Book of Humanoids was the Saurial Paladin, to account for this. Of course, as with a lot of AD&D stuff, it was basically shoehorning the plot of the novels into game-crunch; intended to make the character "Dragonbait/Finder" game-viable, it was restricted to the Finheads alone.

3.5 stats for the Saurials appeared in a web enhancement for Serpent Kingdoms, a Yuan-ti, Naga and Lizardfolk-related sourcebook for Forgotten Realms hosted on WoTC's old website. Now, you could go and track that down, relying upon their somewhat glitchy archives, but luckily for you, /tg/ is awesome and believes in sharing that kind of obscure and hard-to-find data.

Language of Smell
In the lore of Saurials, different scents given off indicate specific emotions, with the following list serving as a summary of the most common "translations":
* Baked bread: Anger
* Honeysuckle: Tenderness
* Lemons: Pleasure or Joy
* Roses: Sadness
* Tar: Victory
* Violets: Danger or Fear
* Wood Smoke: Devotion or Piety

Scalykind is a racial grouping slash slang term in the Dungeons & Dragons fandom derived from the Forgotten Realms. In Faerunian lore, "scalykind" is one of several overlapping terms used to refer to the various sapient reptilian races, rather like demihuman or goblinoid. They have their own Splatbook called Serpent Kingdoms

Classic D&D scalykind races include:
* Lizardfolk
* Kobolds
* Troglodytes
* Firenewts
** Ophidians
** Marilith
Scalykind is also a Cleric Domain introduced in the 3e "Player's Guide to Faerun". It grants the Cleric the innate power to command and rebuke reptilian creatures in a similar way to an evil cleric commanding/rebuking the undead. Its bonus spells are Magic Fang, Animal Trance (reptiles only), Greater Magic Fang, Poison, Animal Growth (reptiles only), Eyebite, Viper Gout, Animal Shapes (reptiles only) and Shapechange.

Serpentfolk are a somewhat obscure idea that seems to base itself on the idea "lizardfolk are kind of cool, but how can we make them cooler and/or more evil? Hmm... let's base 'em on snakes!" and working from there.

Serpentfolk, known at the time as Serpentmen or Snakemen, first appeared in the works of Robert E. Howard as part of his King Kull stories, more obscure "predecessors" to those of Conan the Barbarian. Serpentfolk were depicted as a pre-human sapient species of black magicians that had dominated the world, until Atlantis had arisen and defeated them. They also were slowly and tentatively assimilated into first the Conan stories and then, through Howard's correspondence with H.P. Lovecraft, into the Cthulhu Mythos. This is something cemented by the fact that Lovecraft (alongside Zealia Bishop) created a patron deity for the Serpentfolk in the form of Yig, Father of Serpents, in the story "The Curse of Yig".

As such, Cthulhan Serpentfolk have repeatedly appeared in the various editions of Call of Cthulhu.

Over in Dungeons & Dragons, although serpentfolk haven't directly appeared, the Yuan-ti, a species of human/snake hybrids who are divided into castes based on how great the ratio of human to snake is, with the more serpentine being more respected, and with a propensity towards all kinds of fucked up mutations, are pretty obviously made in the Serpentfolk mold. They play a big role in the backstory of the Forgotten Realms, though they cannot seem to keep a patron deity for more than an edition or two, as seen with the long and messed up history of Merrshaulk. The Yuan-ti of Forgotten Realms were created by an older race of snake people called the Sarrukh, who do not exist in other settings. The other major serpentfolk race in D&D is the naga. Another famous one is the Marilith, a type of demon.

Pathfinder, meanwhile, being unable to use Yuan-Ti, simply said "fuck it" and used the public domain Serpentfolk outright. They also feature the naga, and bring back the snake-bodied lamia olf Advanced Dungeons & Dragons as the Lamia Matriarchs.

In Fighting Fantasy there are Serpentfolk called the Caarth who live beyond the a Desert of Skulls. They aren't keen on the Lizardfolk, but both are evil.
In Faerunian lore, "scalykind" is one of several overlapping terms used to refer to the various sapient reptilian races, rather like demihuman or goblinoid. They have their own Splatbook called Serpent Kingdoms

Classic D&D scalykind races include:
* Lizardfolk
* Kobolds
* Troglodytes
* Firenewts
* Saurials
* Serpentfolk
** Sarrukh (creators of most of the other Scaled Ones in Forgotten Realms, but not other settings)
** Yuan-ti
** Nagas
** Ophidians
** Marilith

Scalykind is also a Cleric Domain introduced in the 3e "Player's Guide to Faerun". It grants the Cleric the innate power to command and rebuke reptilian creatures in a similar way to an evil cleric commanding/rebuking the undead. Its bonus spells are Magic Fang, Animal Trance (reptiles only), Greater Magic Fang, Poison, Animal Growth (reptiles only), Eyebite, Viper Gout, Animal Shapes (reptiles only) and Shapechange.
