Be'lakor the Dark Master is the first (and debatably only) Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided. Of course, this claim of "Only" is suspect with the unclear status of Lorgar and Perturabo's alignments, as well as whether Nemeroth's still alive. His name likely derives from the name "Bellator", which means warrior in <s>Latin</s> High Gothic.

Due to his nature as a daemon prince of chaos, he's been sighted in both Warhammer Fantasy Battles as well as Warhammer 40,000. In both, he began as an ancient warlord from ages past who fought in the name of the Chaos Gods before they decided to elevate him as a Daemon Prince. Then he got cocky, thought himself better than his four owners, and then got royally bitchslapped back into line.

Warhammer Fantasy
Be'lakor was one of the earliest Chaos warlords, leading vast hordes of Daemons to ravage the world long before the Elves rose up against them. He impressed the Chaos Gods so much they turned him into a Daemon Prince, the first time they ever did that to a mortal follower of Chaos Gods. However, his four parents began bickering for ownership, each offering some presents in exchange for his loyalty. He decided to then take all their presents and fled to the mortal realms without doing any of their favors. He came during the First Great War Against Chaos, bending many to his will and carving a warpath - unwittingly carrying out the tasks the four set before him. As time carried on, more Daemon Princes were raised, siphoning the power and attention that was once exclusively his and eventually sparking a great war as these new princes sought to carve out territory. This distracted team Chaos from stopping the elves in Ulthuan from creating the Great Vortex, thus stemming the tide of badstuffs spilling into the world.

As punishment, the big four made him become the one to crown Everchosens of Chaos while never getting to become the Everchosen himself, which pissed him off to no end. This is a retcon though, as originally Be'lakor got arrogant and thought he was better than the Chaos Gods, so Tzeentch served him a big piece of humble pie by denying him a physical body and forcing him to crown each Everchosen. At one point Be'lakor co-opted this by possessing one of the Everchosen candidates (who became known as the Shadowlord), but Be'lakor's power destroyed the host body and he was stuck back in the role. In the expansion Shadows of Albion, Be'lakor was the main bad guy there, manipulating people to take the power and artifacts of Albion for himself, before failing and abandoning that plan.

With the latest Everchosen, Archaon, Be'lakor was once again forced to crown the Everchosen of Chaos with the final artifact. Be'lakor played a big part in the Storm of Chaos campaign, but that has since been retconned. Although he still shows up from time to time, he no longer appears to be quite as powerful as he once was, although he is still a Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided, which is a massive accomplishment in and of itself. In newer lore, he also took the form of a Norse warlord who conducted a raid on a Nordlander town where he raped a woman and fathered a child who would go on to become Archaon.

During The End Times, Be'lakor was all set to return to his former glory and then some, plotting to become the fifth Chaos God by breaking into Kazad Drengazi, the Fortress of the First Slayer (Grimnir, natch), a temple containing the Chaos Gate that Grimnir used to get to the Realm of Chaos in the first place. Be'lakor used the power of the Chaos Gate to break Tzeentch's curse, regain his physical form, and summon four greater daemons, one of each of the Chaos Gods; two of them had had their shit ruined by Gotrek and Felix once before. Be'lakor and his posse planned to backstab Grimnir from behind, at which point Be'lakor would take all of Grimnir's power and ascend to become the fifth Chaos God, but Gotrek and Felix showed up and wrecked Be'lakor and the Bloodthirster, while Grimnir kicked the asses of the Keeper of Secrets, Lord of Change, and Great Unclean One. It looked like Be'lakor and Gotrek's duel could go either way at first, then Gotrek hit Be'lakor with the Bloodthirster and kicked all their asses back to the Realm of Chaos, ruining Be'lakor's plans.

He later caused mischief in Athel Loren by manipulating the Khainites and the more xenophobic forest spirits to attack the elves, but got driven away by the elves armies and the new Incarnate of Light - Tyrion. Though he did play a major role in dooming the world by freeing Mannfred von Carstein from his imprisonment and ensuring the Chaos Gods learnt of Lileath's haven. During his attempt to slay Lileath and consume her divine power, he was stalled by Jerrod of Asareux, one of the last Bretonnian dukes. Jerrod put up a pretty good fight but was no matche for the first daemon prince and had half of his body devastated by the prince. Jerrod did stalled enough time for the arrival of both Malekith and Tyrion, who use their own incarnate magic to capture the big ol' daemon (first Malekith's shadow magic prevent Be'lakor using his shadow trick to escape, then Tyrion use a magical net of light to restrain him). The daemon prince was later interrogated by Alarielle (who is kind to every living being, just not daemons) with various tortures and threatens to turn him into Nagash's guinea pig if he didn't co-operate. Still feeling mischievous, Be'lakor told the incarnates of Archaon's plan in Middenheim just so he could watch them shit their pants. Having trolled enough, Be'lakor was then trapped in a magic ruby by Alarielle for the rest of eternity. One true Everchosen my ass!

Age of Sigmar
Somehow he managed to escape into the new world. While there are hints that he ruled Ulgu before the god formerly known as Malekith rose to power, Be'lakor's first appearance had him get his ass royally handed to him by the Lizardmen dive bombing him with Pterodactyl riders. Embarrassed by this poor showing (which could actually be a reference to a battle in a white dwarf, at the time of lizardmen 7th edition, in that battle report Be'lakor was killed during by being stoned to death by pterodactyl riders), he has since taken into hiding from the spotlight once more. That said, Archaon seems to be following his footsteps, as Archie's been elevated to the "High Marshal of Chaos", which gives him almost free reign to control or kill the champions of Chaos while still claiming no exclusive loyalty to any of the four (now five with the Horned Rat's ascension) - the only difference being that he's still arguably human. In Wrath of the Everchosen, it's revealed he's the Starscream to Archaon's Megatron, forming his own faction of Chaos followers with the (kinda-secret) goal of (eventually) overthrowing Archaon. Despite that, Be'lakor worked with Archaon to defend the Eightpoints against the armies of Nagash, managing to personally slay the Mortarch Lady Olynder (As much as one can slay a Mortarch), sending her soul back to Shyish.

After this Be'lakor set some big plans he had brewing into motion, as revealed in the Broken Realms book revolving around him. He has one of his servants free one of the Stormcast Morathi captured after her ascension to godhood so the soldier can warn Sigmar of Morathi's treachery, an act which ends up distracting the two gods from Chaos' plans. While this was happening Be'lakor went and destroyed some of the Seraphon future scrying devices to blind them and then tricks them into killing one of Archaon's Gaunt Summoners by having them crash the Summoner's Silver tower into Chamon and then nuking the thing thus setting back his rival's plans to use Varanite to breach the Realm gate into Azyr. As an unexpected bonus though the explosion sets off a chain reaction that destroys several Realmgates connected to the Tower and also ends up weakening the fabric of the realms allowing Chaos stuff to seep into reality. This inspires Be'lakor with a new plan to set about nuking other realmgates both in order to cut off the realms from each other and also to allow daemonic forces to pour into reality and overwhelm the forces of order, something which Archaon had never thought to try as he and most of his forces were still technically humans and thus needed the Realmgates to move about on their campaigns. But before Be'lakor can put this plan into action there is an issue he has to deal with first. When he killed Olynder in the Eightpoints back during the Soul Wars, she put a potent curse on Be'lakor that would kill him when the sands in her hourglass ran out.

To deal with this mess Be'lakor took an army to Shyish and used it to track down Olynder, who as it happens was coping quite well with the defeat of her master from the last Broken Realms book. Having figured out how to destroy Olynder - by destroying her body in its tomb in Dolorum, he held his blade over her corpse and the two struck a bargain; he would give Olynder the souls of an entire Stormhost and she would free him from the curse. She agreed and the two attacked a realmgate known as the Golden Gate that linked a city called Vindicarum in Chamon with several other towns, before they then moved on to attack the city itself. The resulting battles end up collapsing the realmgate and causing a Chaos storm that stopped the souls of the Stormcast slain at the Battle of Vindicarum (including that of Lorrus Grymn who Be'lakor personally killed) from travelling back to Azyr thus dooming most of two Stormhosts, the Hallowed Knights and Celestial Vindicators, to utter destruction and leaving their souls to be caught in the Chaos storm, whilst a third Stormhost, the Sigmarite Brotherhood, was completely wiped out to the last warrior, a feat not even Archaon has managed. When Kharadron forces later arrive and use their fleet to evacuate the surviving civilians Be'lakor himself goes to wipe out the fleet's leaders, but the sight of a duardin steeped in ancient godlike power made him decide to retreat (as to who this was bets are it was either an avatar of Grungni or Grombrindal the White Dwarf himself). Having accomplished his goal and deciding not to push his luck Be'lakor then gave the Stormcast souls captured by the Chaos storm to Olynder, who removed her curse from him and left him to his machinations.

Be'lakor makes one final appearance in the Broken Realms saga in the epilogue of Broken Realms: Kragnos where he throws shade at the Newborn twins for their failed attempt at conquering the Ghurish city of Excelsis and their generally lackluster first attempt to make waves in the mortal realms. He also confirms that the duardin he saw at Vindicarum was a god and that the storms of chaos he unleashed at Vindicarum are now spreading to the other realms.

Despite his failure to finish off Vindicarum and Grungni introducing Thunderstrike Armour to counter his cursed skies, Be'lakor has managed to regain a lot of favor with the Chaos Gods and now stands as the first serious threat to Archaon's status as leader of Chaos. While no outright declaration of war has been made, both have sent their forces to raid the other. Indeed, the damage and mayhem he had wrought had proven to be extremely disruptive not only to the forces of Order, who are now scrambling to recover lost ground and rescue their forces trapped in Chamon while Be'lakor's storm persists all the while; but with Archaon once again being disrupted and stalled in his own schemes to break into Azyr, Be'lakor has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with in the Mortal Realms. Well, at least that's what he would like to think of himself, being jealous of his son by rape and all.

Warhammer 40,000
In Warhammer 40,000, Be'lakor was the first Daemon Prince, as well as the first (and allegedly "last", but there have been plenty more since) Daemon Prince created through the action of all four Chaos Gods (apparently Lorgar and Perturabo were special exceptions or something (though knowing Pert, I wouldn't be surprised if he was 75% Khornate or something and 0% Slaanesh considering what the Emperor's Cunts wanted to do with Pert)), and quickly proved to be difficult to control even at the best of times. Apparently his creation gave him the Daemonic equivalent of daddy issues and now he spends most of his time trying to kill all other Champions of Chaos, including other Daemon Princes. The Chaos Gods tolerate him mostly because his wild-card status makes him an excellent pawn in their power struggles, something Be'lakor himself is completely unaware of (as he thinks he still has free will and just wants to cement his position as Chaos' sole champion).

Recently, he's shown up to "help" with Abaddon's Black Crusades by giving him seemingly helpful advice that often leads to unexpectedly heavy losses, all in an attempt to undermine his credibility (well, more so than he does on his own). In a stunning display of insight, Abaddon saw through his ruse, but allowed him to remain within the Black Legion in order to keep tabs on him and better prepare for his sudden but inevitable betrayal. The Imperium isn't even that aware that he exists, as Be'lakor has been very careful about concealing his presence from history (with the unwitting help of a Magos who learned just enough about him to know that he exists, but not enough to realize that he's a Daemon Prince).

He's also been shown to be in contact with Ahriman. No word on whether Ahriman has accepted his offer of being made his greatest champion in exchange for his service, however, but seeing as Ahzek rejects even Tzeentch's own offerings to be HIS chosen champion, still thinks he's independent of any god (despite having Tzeentch's mark on the tabletop), and actively tries to become the fifth Chaos god himself, it's a good bet he told Be'lakor to go fuck himself with someone else's force sword.

During Gathering Storm Be'lakor helped the Iron Warriors invade the Imperial Fists star fortress the Phalanx, attempting to upstage Abaddon by using it to attack Terra directly. The Imperial Fists turned the Phalanx's own weapons on the chaos-tainted regions, destroying them and killing most of the Iron Warriors, then the Legion of the Damned arrived. Be'lakor himself got his ass kicked by Tor Garadon (before he was even given a model!). This abject failure was unfortunately the only time Be'lakor was ever really relevant to Warhammer 40k's plot. In general Be'lakor never really is shown doing much and seems to only exist in 40k because daemons in both settings have to cross-over.

During Warzone Charadon: The Book of Fire, Be'lakor arrived having been summoned and supported by the Alpha Legion and Word Bearers working together as best bros. This force invaded the House Raven Imperial Knight Homeworld of Kolossi. The Daemonic and Heretic forces devastated the Imperial forces and successfully captured the world of Kolossi before whisking it away from House Raven and turning into a Daemon World, dishonoring them and leaving them homeless. His forces ended also fucking over Typhus and the Metalica invasion forces. In the end he got shit done, which is impressive in comparison to Abaddon.

Table Top
Warhammer Fantasy
A 500pt Monster (literally), Be'lakor is a very expensive but very solid choice for either a Warriors of Chaos or Daemons of Chaos army. He's an upgraded winged Daemon prince with Lore Master in the Lore of Shadow and a 4+ Ward save and any thing shooting at him suffers -2 to hit him to keep him out of the way of any cannons aimed at him. He is very good at making units run for the hills as he has Terror and Unbreakable like a regular Daemon prince but he also reduces the leadership of all enemy units with 12" of him by -1 and if they fail a panic or break test Be'lakor gets an extra D3 power dice for his next magic phase. Finally his sword, The Blade of Shadows is the standard but extremely nasty no armour saves allowed against wounds dealt by it. Over all if you use Be'lakor he'll take up your entire lord slot (unless you play using the last 8th edition FAQ and/or End Times in which case he uses half of it) but he can effectively scare off hordes of enemies and pile drive your opponents lords while also being quite hard to pick off from usual monster killing methods, like artillery.

Age of Sigmar
Be'lakor's combat capabilities aren't really anything special. Sure, his melee capabilities are slightly better than your standard Daemon Prince, and ignoring rend is a neat gimmick (even if its offset by him having a lower save than the standard Daemon Prince. meaning its only really an advantage against Rend -2 weapons). He also heals himself when enemy models flee, but with battleshock being so easy to ignore its not much to speak about. His magic capabilities are better, having a good warscroll spell and being one of the few wizards that can cast twice in Slaves to Darkness. The real thing that makes Be'lakor a good pick, however, is his special rule "The Dark Master".

Be'lakor can secretly pick one unit at the start of the game, which he has secretly been manipulating the entire time. At any time he can reveal his manipulations, causing the selected unit to be unable to cast spells, move, charge, or attack unless they roll a 5+ for the rest of the turn. And of course, you're going to use this ability on the enemy's strongest unit. Need that Frostlord on Stonehorn to kill that one unit on the objective? Need Nagash to cast that combo of spells you need? Too bad.

Be'lakor also has his own subfaction for the Legion of Chaos Ascendant army list called The Legion of the First Prince. It allows lesser daemons to act as meat shields for him and also allows him to reroll hits and wounds if he's surrounded by at least one lesser daemon of each god, but you mainly take it for the command ability which allows him to restore dead models to every Plaguebearer, Bloodletter, Daemonette and Horror unit on the battlefield. Which, due to the way keywords work, include big multi-wound cavalry units like Bloodcrushers and Plague Drones.

Warhammer 40k
His 40k rules are a reworked version of his Fantasy rules which were then super charged. A winged Daemon Prince he has a 4++ invuln save and is Shrouded, and he also has fucking Eternal Warrior so he's pretty hard to kill. The Blade of Shadows is in it's best incarnation as it's a monstrous S+1, AP2, Fleshbane, Armourbane, Master crafted murder stick, he is also a level 3 Psyker with powers from the Telepathy Discipline and he gains a bonus D3 warp charge points when enemy units fail moral tests. For 350 points he's expensive but he's a god damn steal with how killy he can be.

8th/9th edition
Be'lakor is pretty good in 8th edition. He's very speedy with a 14" movement and gives buffs to all Daemons so works round the restrictions of a regular Daemon prince. He has a -1 leadership debuff and he has 6 attacks. Stack that with his S+1 ap-5 D3 kill sword, he can carve his way through pretty much anything. He also has access to the Dark Heretics discipline which he knows 2 powers from (you will take Death Hex and you will like it) so he is a pretty good all rounder. The only problem is that he needs to be put in his own detachment as he doesn't have any marks of chaos (for some reason) so he can't join a god specific detachment without gimping the rest of the detachment.

This was changed with 9E. Not only does he get all marks as he's supposed to, but also gets a special detachment that allows daemons to work side by side with heretics, though none of them are going to be able to enjoy their full powers and there are certain forces (Daemon princes, greater daemons, specialist marked marines) that are barred from use. Still, making a Chaos army with Deamons and Chaos Terminators is fucking insane. You can also combo with Havocs, Greater Possesed, Vehicles, and even Obliterators.

Scratch that, Be'lakor is very powerful in 9E. Like, Nightbringer levels of powerful. And Nightbringer-levels of expensive- dude's 10 points cheaper. Here's what he's got going for him. First, he's got a permanent -1 to wound, a -1 to hit, and he stops his opponent from rerolling failed hit rolls. Next, he fucks with your units' Ld (-1 to Ld, -1 to Combat Attrition tests) and buffs his own units' shooting and melee. Any non-vehicle unit within 6" of him, with the DISCIPLES OF BE'LAKOR keyword gets to reroll 1s to hit, and he can choose a unit with those keywords within 9" of him to reroll all failed hit rolls assuming Be'lakor is your warlord. Finally, he rerolls all failed hit and wound rolls against other Daemon Princes.
His weapon's a giant sword, that can make two profiles. Sweeping Strike is 12 attacks at S8 AP-3 D1, and Piercing Strike is 6 attacks at S12 AP-4 Dd3+3, which ignores invulns. Yes, it ignores invulns. The good thing, is that he brackets. His movement, strength, and attacks all get worse as he loses any of his 16 wounds.

Total Warhammer 3
It is implied that Be'lakor is going to be in Game 3 representing the Daemons of Chaos Undivided, considering that the existence of nine legendary lords was confirmed - 4 of them will probably be for Kislev and Cathay, another 4 will represent Chaos Gods, and the other one is currently unknown, but come on. "A shadowy source of great evil building its armies" has Be'lakors self stroking ego written all over it.

As he will (most likely) lead the Undivided Subfaction (if it will be in the game), he will presumably have access to all Daemons from 4.5 (included the few Undivided Daemons) rosters.

Trivia
*He has a kickass band
*Half of his inner soliloquies is wondering why the Chaos Gods won't notice him.

The Deamonic and Heretic forces devastated the Imperial forces and successfully capture the world of Kolossi before whisking it away from House Raven and turning into a Daemon World, dishonoring them and leaving them homeless. His forces ended also fucking over Typhus and the Metalica invasion forces. In the end he got shit done and completed his which is impressive in comparison to Abaddon.

Despite that, Bea'lakor worked with Archaon to defend the Eightpoints against the armies of Nagash, managing to personally slay the Mortarch Lady Olynder (As much as one can slay a Mortarch), sending her soul back to Shyish.

A subtype of Goblins in Warhammer Fantasy, known for their big floppy ears, beak like noses, and being the personal bitches of the Ogres.
Note that they have their own army, Gnoblar Horde: The Unwashed Masses.
Lore
Fantasy
Gnoblars are small greenskins that evolved to their current state when Ogres moved from the mountains of the Giants to the Mountains of Mourn and kept them as pets/rations.

Gnoblars have the place of being the singularly most mistreated beings in either Warhammer setting, as Ogres see them somewhere between vermin-like insects that are simply a fact of life to deal with, or very low and undepletable slaves. Sometimes as food if there's nothing better around (they’re noted as tasting very stringy and overall unpleasant to eat), although some Gnoblars wind up in the position of "favorite hunting dog" as long as the Ogre can remember them. On rarer occasions, the Ogres will adore gnoblars almost as pets or playthings, resulting in the little buggers creating their own microcosms within the Ogre tribe.

Gnoblars see Ogres as a mix of living gods and eternal masters. They differ from Goblins in that they are much smaller and dumber, and while Goblins have pronounced noses the face of a Gnoblar is mostly nose giving them a beaky appearance. The resemblance to a Jim Henson Muppet character may not be a simple coincidence, as the concept artist for Ogre Kingdoms, Paul Jeacock, had previously worked for Jim Henson's Creature Studio London as a sketch artist (White Dwarf #301). Make of that what you will.

Gnoblars are just as cruel as Goblins, torturing and killing anything smaller or weaker than themselves, fighting with intent to kill over stupid reasons, and laughing at the misfortune of other Gnoblar. This last trait is even more extreme than Goblins, as Gnoblar don't panic or feel fear when other Gnoblar suffer; a Gnoblar right next to them being eaten by a dragon is far more amusing than frightening, and a horde of Gnoblar fleeing past from an unknown assailant is cause for mockery instead of concern.

Gnoblars are hoarders, obsessively collecting anything they can pick up although those in service to Ogres find their good stuff taken away. As a result, most independant are found carrying inexhaustible amounts of "Sharp Things" to throw and cause modest damage, and can even be found carrying magical gear befitting a Dwarf Thane or a High Elf Archmage rather than a small goblinoid.
A possibly related feature of Gnoblars is their ludicrous extremes of luck. A Gnoblar could easily trip and fall and break their neck as they could best a Chaos Champion (also probably by tripping), find and eat a poison mushroom as find a magical world-saving/destroying artifact, find a tasty snake to skin alive and eat raw as find a dragon's tail that they attempt to do the same to before realizing it isn't a snake.

Gnoblars who are favored by an Ogre have one of their ears bitten off (each bite mark being uniquely shaped as no two Ogres have the same teeth pattern), and assume the rank among Gnoblars that their master has among Ogres. They are extremely hierarchical, and come in the following ranks:
* Lords: Equivalent to a Tyrant. Supreme masters of the Gnoblars. Paranoid as hell, immediately order Woodbellies to kill any Gnoblar they see as a threat.
* Tooth-Gnoblars: Servants to Butchers and Slaughtermasters, the priesthood of Ogres. Although high-ranking, they suffer among the most of any Gnoblar as they are tasked with gathering chunks of meat, and often end up so covered in blood they are indistinguishable as anything more than jiggling fat to their masters.
* Trappers: Servants to the Ogres who gather food for their race. They lay a myriad of traps all around the outskirts of the Ogre camp and leave them there until the shrill sounds of something caught in a trap alerts them. Well-respected, although often used as bait.
* Manbiters: Gnoblars who serve Maneaters, and travel the world with their master. They recount the tales of their master to other Gnoblars which sometimes reaches the ears of other Ogres. Gnoblar Manbiters aren't above serving other races as mercenaries independent of their Ogre either, and are the most common greenskin to be found working alongside non-greenskins (although its worth noting Gnoblars are fairly more bungling and annoying to any civilized race than useful).
* Torch Gnoblars: Leadbelcher servants. Used to light cannons for their masters, and have suffered from burns, soot-blackened skin, and blindness as a result. Trying to paint your models like these may be...awkward in some company...
* Woodbellies: Irongut Gnoblars. Serve as the enforcers for the Gnoblar Lord in the same way their masters are enforcers for the Tyrant. Are somewhat independent as far as Gnoblars go.
* Bullies: Ogre Bull servants. Their rank in Gnoblar society is purely based on their size alone, and they act like their masters do other Ogres towards any Gnoblar smaller than themselves.
* Fighters: The most basic Gnoblars who have any sort of respect from any sort of Ogre. Since they're unwilling to do grunt work as they can claim they're better than that, they mostly just wait for fights in which they will join on behalf of the Ogres.
* Scum: The dumbest, weakest, smallest Gnoblar. Also any Gnoblar of superior quality who hasn't had an Ogre dote on them. Scum do not participate in battles and just do the work of the Ogres from gathering simple food like insects, leftovers on the ground or stuck in fat folds/clothing for other meals, and other assorted basic tasks. They're fairly useless at anything complex, and as a result rarely do anything important enough for an Ogre to take notice and bite their ear because otherwise they wouldn't be Scum still.

Note that more variants exist, but only among the independant Gnoblar.

40k
Gnoblar don't properly exist in 40k, although it can be fairly said that Gretchin, the 40k equivalent of Goblins, are much more like Gnoblar than they actually are Goblins and serve Orks in the same way that Gnoblar serve Ogres.

Age of Sigmar
Gnoblars somehow survived the destruction of the old setting alongside their masters, although how isn't clear how as they had no representation with Gork or Mork (or possibly rather Mork and Gork).

They originally came from Chamon, the junk-filled region of Skrapa-Spill to be precise. They enjoyed sifting through the rubble and refuse for anything shiny or sharp (or both) to throw at each other, and trapping/torturing anything that wandered into their turf. Unfortunately, being literally the smallest sentient creature in existence, they were bullied and trod upon by their much bigger and meaner cousins (Orruks in particular liked to pull off their ears, like a kid plucking the wings off a fly). Thus they made a deal with the even larger Ogor Mawtribes; gnoblars would serve the Ogors as a worker caste in exchange for their protection from Orruks and Grots. The Ogors agreed to the terms, partly because Gnoblars didn’t taste too good to begin with.

Their role in the Mawtribes is almost roughly the same as Fantasy Battle, though it does seem to be slightly better treated than their predecessors, though this could be down to word choice or AoS in general being more noblebright. The fact that they negotiated their current arrangement with the Ogors instead of true enslavement probably also had a hand in their better situation. They’ve also put more emphasis on their obsession with collecting junk and building things from said junk. These Gnoblars are also smart enough to reverse engineer Duardin gunpowder for their Ogor masters to use.

On The Tabletop
Gnoblar Fighters are the basic form of Gnoblar. They're simple Tarpit models that fulfill the roles of flank protection, flank chargers, or basic tarpit. They cost a mere 2.5 points per model, making them the second cheapest in the game (and the only one to use a decimal for point cost). They also cause absolutely no Panic tests for being broken, making them the ideal throwaway Unit.

Even better, for 25 points a Unit can be upgraded to Trappers which cause Dangerous Terrain tests to enemies that charge them which is a splendid defense against horde formation enemies.

Their role is roughly the same in AoS, though now they can be buffed by a Tyrant making them immune to Battleshock, which when combined with their larger unit sizes makes for a pretty good wall of bodies.

While not an absolute must, Ogre players still love the little Gnoblars in most lists.

Fimir are a race from Warhammer Fantasy. They were one of the primary inventions (rather than knockoff or reinterpretation) made by Games Workshop but were dropped due to low popularity regardless. Unlike many other GW "failures", they remained canon, if sidelined but returned as a set of high quality Forgeworld Models for Monstrous Arcanum, a set of units in Total War, and a part of Grand Alliance: Destruction's playable army in Age of Sigmar.

Meta Origin And History
Warhammer had been born out of the fact Games Workshop was only a distributor of other games and their subordinate companies Citadel and Marauder (the two later merged) made minis for those IPs with some not selling as well (how many people need a unicorn in the first place, let alone more than one?). Warhammer turned the basics of D&D into a wargame to sell those minis, and when Games Workshop lost exclusive rights or the entire right to distribute an IP, they discontinued the line and rebranded them; for example the Broo minis they produced for Glorantha next year were rebranded Beastmen despite being the exact same sculpts.

Around the time of the explosion in Warhammer popularity as 2e transitioned into 3e (the first edition with a proper setting, and the inclusion of Chaos) as well as the imminent birth of Warhammer 40000 the CEO of GW, Brian Ansell, was looking to the bright future. He wanted Warhammer to have its own distinct copyrights, things recognizable as theirs and theirs alone (although it did not stop them from stealing from Moorcock and Starship Troopers wholesale). The most important innovation of this time was making Orcs green-skinned with red eyes and tusks, which spread into almost every other Orc in fiction since.

But Ansell wanted something truly belonging only to Warhammer. While Tony Ackland and later John Blanche with Adrian Smith largely created the distinctive "Warhammer" visual feel, Ackland's Daemonettes were still a concept taken from Moorcock and Blanche's Sisters of Battle were in the same vein as GW's Judge Dredd models. Adrian's Warriors of Chaos also were merely an extrapolation of the Deathdealer from Conan the Barbarian.

So Ansell summoned two employees, Graeme Davis and Jes Goodwin and told them he wanted pictures, pictures of a unique concept (by using employees he unintentionally ensured GW would keep the rights to their creation, as many designers were hired part-time because it was cheaper and as a result kept the rights to everything they created; which is why everything Ackland designed exists only in old minis with the later ones changed enough to be their own).
His specific words were in fact a race "to be as distinctive of Warhammer as the Broo are of Runequest". Sadly...Davis and Goodwin took him too literally, and completely ripped off Broo-again-with a bit of alteration (to their credit, more than Beastmen got) leaving GW with yet another ripoff. But Ansell loved it anyway, and Fimir were put into 3e.

Fimir are the combination of Broo with Formorians, monstrous but not FORTHEEVULZ Feyfolk from Celtic myth.

Sadly, Fimir did not catch on with the public. Thanks to a horrible fuckup between concept and sculpt produced by Nick Bibby the Fimir wound up extremely large, Ogre-sized. This made them fairly expensive to buy a chunk of metal of. Their in-game stats reflected their intended only slightly larger than human (so Orc) size while their point cost was made higher to reflect large model size. Also, Fimir reproduction was parasitic, with Male fimir having to breed with human females to reproduce, unintentionally insinuating that the Fimir were explicit rapists, though the writers of the fluff did acknowledge that this wasn't their intent, it was merely an error if omission, with their actual intent being to have the Fimir be like fairies who spirit away women and impregnate them in a magical way (which is still ultimately just rape). Of course, the lore was read first while this was there, which seemed to be explicit rape. If you collect fimir and don't like this aspect of them, you could always just say that your clan has a mutually beneficial relationship with a human tribe where the human women interbreed with the fimir in order to gain the fimir as allies against other groups, which the fimir would likely agree to because it's way easier to have a willing ally than having to fight and then rape people just to scrape by. Essentially, any tribe that doesn't take this route if it's actually possible is stupid, or just needlessly cruel. While technically creatures of Chaos, they aren't Beastmen or Skaven and can be expected to act with a higher degree of logic. In Age of Sigmar, the fimir are now in the Destruction grand alliance, perhaps hinting at them abandoning chaos entirely.

So as a result Fimir were expensive to buy and were absolutely horrible for their stats. Most players weren't interested in them unless solely for the fluff as a result, and instead of fixing what was wrong by giving them the appropriate stats Fimir were dropped in 4e along with the idea of them being GW's mascot. They only made it into one other work, the first Warhammer Quest as a monster.

But that wasn't the end. The fan magazine for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay called Warpstone made a 98 page expansion of the original threadbare Fimir lore (WFRP Bestiary, White Dwarf #102, 3e WFB) in issue 25. This caused a slow burning ember of love for them in the community (it should be noted that GW writers also read and sometimes borrowed from Warpstone).

GW put a minor reference to them in White Dwarf #310 in the Gnoblar Horde: The Unwashed Masses army.

Fimir also appeared in HeroQuest boardgame as one of the monsters, but they were never focused on, simply being there with no real explanation.

Fimir were also in a Black Library novel Empire.

Storm of Magic fully resurrected Fimir with the Balefiend AKA Dirach. They were large sized like the original mistake models.

The 8th edition rules included a reference to Fimir as well.

Three models were supposed to be released for Monstrous Arcana, but were out on hold until Age of Sigmar where they are previewed as getting a complete revival as an army. They also eventually made an appearance in the Norsca DLC for Total War: WARHAMMER, in keeping with that game's tradition of giving lavish attention to parts of the setting GW prefers to ignore.

Total War: WARHAMMER
Praise Creative Assembly they've done it, Fimir have been reborn once again! This time they serve as a unit choice for the Norsca faction.

Their Fimir Warriors share the same category with trolls as monster infantry with a few minor differences. While they can already deal armor piercing damage, they can also cause armor sundering that lower the armor rating of their opponents (even though their melee weapon never had that kind of abilities on tabletop, which is just CA's attempt at creating yet another power creep in order to bait people to buy their DLC). They also have "From the Mist" which gives them additional missile resistance. Oh, and they have higher morale compared to trolls, but no health regen, sadly. Overall, though, this means they're a pretty good investment unlike how they were in the tabletop.

Fimir Balefiends are also available as monstrous casters where they are able to cast magic and fight on the front line with their monstrous size as well as damage.

Fluff
Fimir are a race of swamp-dwelling cyclops men with a beak and a scorpion tail. They originate with, but not a part of, Chaos as they are "part Daemon" (children of mortals and Daemons have appeared sporadically throughout Warhammer). The race was once favored by the Chaos Gods, though this fell apart quickly when they found mankind to be far more amusing. The Fimir, essentially now the red-headed stepchild of the Chaos Gods, continue to revere them; though the Gods do not pay them any special favor as they once had, instead they're forced to bind daemons in order to get any sort of Chaos blessings. They think if they help out the forces of Chaos when the opportunity presents its self they will regain favor; especially if they break the veil between the mortal world and the Realm of Chaos. Their skin tones are earthtones, dark greens and browns. They hate sunlight.

They used to exist in large numbers in the Wasteland, but the Men of the Empire drove them out with great effort, slaughtering most of their tribes. Fimir still exist there in small bands, haunting the misty swamps.

Fimir females, called Maerghs, are rarely born. They lead the Fimir clans, and when a Meargh dies and they cannot find a replacement after some time, the clan breaks apart into mercenaries that find work with other evil races. There can only be one Maergh per clan, if a Maergh manages to have a daughter, the daughter leaves when old enough to lead her own clan. Both are generally magic users. Fimir have the ability to control mist. Dirachs are the Fimir who deal with Daemons.

Nobles are the next rank down, then Fianna Fimm AKA elite warriors. Warriors are, well, warriors. They’re bigger than the scrubs, armed with plate and big ass weapons and for some reason they have a club for a tail like some kind of chaos ankylosaur.

The lowest rank are Shearls, slave Fimir.

Since female Fimir are extremely rare (once again, one per clan), the race reproduces by raiding humans from out of the fog, enslaving and sacrificing men while raping the women.

Some Fimir ally with Gnoblar, a more mentally stable variant of greenskin.

According to Total War they grudgingly sell their services as heavy shock troops for Norscan Warlords who can pay, and there's a sizeable population of them haunting the frozen bogs and swamps of Norsca.

That ...is basically all the Fimir fluff there is.

Warpstone
Warpstone Fimir are the same as the above, but with more detail.

They are secretive and regarded as myth by most. They have a mostly hate relationship with Chaos, seeking either servitude from weak Daemons or patronage from minor (read: not the Four, Hashut, or Horned Rat) Chaos Gods. They will even serve gods like Morr who have access to Daemons (in early Warhammer lore all gods were Chaos entities who were simply far more benevolent; the modern equivalent is the Morghast as a "Daemon" of Death gods). Balor, Kroll, and Lisaart are Daemon Princes who are among their worshipped patrons. Some Dirachs keep Daemons as personal servants or friends. Fimir HATE Tzeentch, believing the Hell-Mother incident was his fault. Frogs are a holy symbol to Fimir representing fertility, a fetus, and breeding rights if given a figure of one by a Meargh.

Their building is capable but not complex. They have limited smithing for the purpose of tools and cannot produce things like locks, but can summon Daemons or elementals to aid them in labor. They utilize special black wood that is harder than natural for boats and walls. They use poison plants and defenses like palisades. They use the waters of their home for sacrifices rather than altars. Dedicated altars are for Fimir who fall to true Chaos worship (the Four). Most food gathered is cooked into a single stew each day. Fimir trade with evil races when necessary but prefer to trade only with other Fimir. Due to not being a mining race living near such resources, Fimir technology is based on what they can take from humans or barter for up to Iron Age level of sophistication. Fimir keep anything they can scavenge or pillage even if not immediately useful. Pumps and digging implements are very valuable.

They believe their origins are a distant human kingdom called the Waterland, where the princess Maris fell in love with the Mud God Daemon Fimúl. Fimúl was killed (meaning sent back to the Warp) and Maris fled with her hideous children to the swamps where she taught them their father's ways. Some Fimir believe in a kingdom called the Wandering Island which travels the coasts of the world crowned with a magic obsidian castle where Maris and Fimúl (summoned back into the world) now rule while others believe their parents dwell among the humans somewhere. Its suggested in-universe the Waterland is the delta of the great river in Nehekhara or from Ind. The Wandering Island exists in human and Elf folklore and thus may actually exist. According to a saga written of the war, the hero Marius killed the Hell-mother with a long weapon of some kind but what kind is not known, supposedly she fell into the sea with it buried in her possibly making it a lost treasure, but Marienburg tavern songs and some scholar interpretations of the story refer to the spear as a penis with humans raping the Hell-Mother as revenge for what Fimir under her command did to the women of their tribe.

Fimir only have friendly relations with Gnoblar, and neutral relations with Albion humans (who send them criminals to sacrifice/rape) and Norse Dwarfs. Mearghs and Dirachs as well as some Nobles speak local languages and dialects, with the lower castes knowing some words. They have slightly higher pitched voices than a human although they use low tone and ample hissing when speaking to non-Fimir for intimidation.

Fimir have very long lifespans, Mearghs surviving 2000 years or more.

Fimir are divided into caste at birth based on appearance. This is lifelong and rarely has it ever been challenged. Almost all (there is variation) Fimir are around five feet with a natural hunch, six or seven if standing tall and have large bellies that they are proud of, long limbs that reach near the ground with a tail almost as long as they are tall, broad shoulders and chests, three fingers and three toes, very little hair usually, are fond of tattoos, look pudgy but have muscle regardless, have a beak with tusks, and a single pupil-less eye. Their internal anatomy is human save for round dark green organs with no known purpose in the torso supported only with connective tissue. Fimir have no external ears but instead an internal honeycomb structure that lets them hear direction easily in fog. They can't small but taste the air and ground to track.
All newborns look like Shearl until they enter a toddler transformation called "Svabhaavajam" ("born to his own nature") which determines lifelong caste.
* Shearl are not only slaves, but all parts of society other than warriors and magic users. They are still on the bottom, but craftsman Shearl are higher than laborer Shearl. Shearl are born buff (pale yellowish brown) color with smooth heads and tails. They may earn the right to use a mace as a weapon but otherwise can only use clubs and stave weapons. Some Shearl can taste the air and sense human females from a great distance, and these Shearls accompany warbands as scouts.
Fimm are the collective name for the warrior caste which includes Nobles, Fianna Fimm, and Warriors. Axes and maces are their favored weapons.
* Warriors are buff color with a club tail.
* Fianna Fimm are olive colored. Nobles are a range of dark earthtone colors with rows of spikes and a blade tip on their tail.
* Dirachs have dark yellow skin, smooth tails, and horns. They dual-wield weapons. They wear elaborate loincloths, kilts, and robes with many adornments. They use daggers and staffs.
* Meargh are shorter and skinnier than males, have a full head of lanky dark green or raven hair, usually but not always small horns, smooth tails, olive skin like nobles, and are equipped like Dirachs although due to carrying out monthly sacrifices they tend to have bloodstains on their clothing.
Fimir only wear clothes ceremonially outside of cold weather and to indicate caste. Nobles in particular love their cloaks, gold, and garnets (the color of human blood). Armor must be earned but even Shearl can do so, with a belly-plate like Ogres use being the most important. Helmets with horns are beloved but must be shaped different than those of Dirachs.

Any information on Fimir is rare. Even knowledge of what they call themselves, most people refer to them as Bog Daemons or mistake them for some other monster like Trolls. Female Fimir are called Hags, Hag-queens, and Witch-Queens. Most knowledge of Fimir comes from Norse Dwarfs (who are politically neutral with them) and humans; other Dwarfs and even Elves know little of them.

Fimir call Mannslieb "Fimúlneid" AKA "Fimúl's Eye" and use it to regulate their society and rituals. Fimir do not respect or worship Morrslieb.

Because Fimir have never been part of an important event and only raid unimportant communities, as well as the near impossibility of tracking them, they are largely unknown and those who are aware of them give them little thought. According to myth the Fimir created the Wasteland waging total war against Skaven for territory.
Only once did Fimir unite, under a Meargh known as the Hell-Mother, and she began a war with the human tribes in the time of Sigmar around what would become Marienburg. The Fimir lost. Badly.
The survivors swore to always remain secret and never unite. The Hell-Mother is known as a curse and hated figure in their history.
Fimir are best known in scandalous and lewd plays, novels, and songs. The Tower card of the Bretonnian Tarot deck depicts a Meargh at the top of her tower, although only in silhouette.

Fimir reproduce by kidnapping and raping human women. They find humans attractive (human males ironically being their idea of femininity) but consider all females equal for breeding and all males equal for sacrifice and labor. Meargh choose which males may mate with captives, more than one for each so the father is uncertain. All females are fed well and treated sternly but gently, and compliant females are given the freedom to roam the settlement with armed escort. Mearghs or Dirachs who know healing magic assist in the birth and a Shaerl is appointed as a servant to mothers. Mearghs are born at a rate of one per clan per century, usually fatal to the mother due to the horns of the baby causing massive bleeding. A Meargh born to a clan with a young Meargh is given to another in need, with old Mearghs taking young ones as apprentices. The necessity of rape to survive is not considered a shame or a curse, but the fact that Maris pursued Fimúl out of love while her children must force themselves on her people has importance to their faith. Rarely a human woman comes to the Fimir for protection, or offer themselves as mothers to learn magic from Mearghs. Fimir "farm" communities, knowing they can't push too far to keep anonymity or wipe out a settlement. Fimir are not unnecessarily cruel (they revere Maris, a human, remember) and have been seen using human males as competitors in games like swimming and wrestling. Fimir keep human males to sacrifice, as without one they must sacrifice their own people. Due to the strain of supporting a human, they only take males intended for eventual sacrifice.

Fimir have a written language for magic, and pass on most knowledge orally. Their spoken and written language is Fimar, a combination of Daemonic and an unknown ancient language.

Fimir are social creatures who will interact in a friendly way even with other castes as long as rank is respected, playing music and games as a community. They carve toys and trinkets, which are sometimes sacrificed to Maris and Fimúl by throwing them into the water which eventually wash up on beaches and are believed by humans to be made by Sea Elves and Mermaids.
Ordeals are community events to determine if a Fimir has the right to a belly-shield. They often are simple pain endurance tests, group beatings, a challenge to defeat a strong opponent or kill an enemy, but rarely involve a quest away from home or a riddle. Mearghs set the task and decide success.

Fimir have a degree of immunity to swamp-related diseases but are extremely susceptible to venereal disease which spreads rapidly thanks to a tattoo and blood ritual culture. Those who go mad from the disease flee their kin and attempt to infiltrate human population centers to enact bizarre plans for unknown purposes.

Fimir are found mostly around the Old World including Albion and Kislev. Since the Empire has only one major marsh, the Schadensumpf, very few Fimir live in Empire territory. Most are neighbors to Marienburg, Norscans, and Albionese. Fimir always dwell near water in swamps, bogs, moors, on lakes and rivers, or coastlines. Most are a month travel from a human settlement. They prefer to set up permanent settlements on existing ruins to build up from, and create towers mimicking the fabled obsidian castle of the Wandering Island for their Meargh.

Some Mearghs survive alone in the wilderness.

They often are simple pain endurance tests, group beatings, a challenge to defeat a strong opponent or kill an enemy, but rarely involve a quest away from hime or a riddle.
