Vindicare (Latin: present active infinitive of Vindico, thus meaning "to avenge/vindicate/punish, to liberate/deliver/spare, or to defend/protect, depending on the context) assassins are one of the varieties of assassin fielded by the Officio Assassinorum in the Warhammer 40k universe. They are superlative snipers capable of making accurate shots from ridiculous distances (and also doing 360 noscopes without hassles), selected for their natural talent and further honed by extensive training and indoctrination by the Vindicare Temple. The primary weapon of the Vindicare is the infamous Exitus sniper rifle (Latin, lit. "exit" fig. conclusion, termination). In addition to the "ordinary" solid slug projectiles it can fire, an assortment of special munitions are available for the weapon, allowing the Vindicare to engage different types of target effectively. They also are some of the most lurvely looking, because of their bad-ass visors.

Occasionally known as "Ork snipers" after a particularly humorous after-action report filed by the Inquisition.

/tg/'s most well-known Vindicare is LIIVI of Love Can Bloom fame, an agent sent to Kronus who turned rogue and deserted the Imperium when he fell in love with the Eldar farseer Taldeer.

Overview
As with all initiates to the Officio Assassinorum, Vindicare Assassins are either orphans or have been abandoned as young children, generally from the Schola Progenium but potentially also from elsewhere. They are taken aboard special training ships back to Terra for sorting, where they undergo grueling training regimes intended to winnow them down and sort out the exceptional candidates. When they reach Terra, they are sorted according to their aptitudes and reassigned to the temple that suits them best. Where they will undergo a further ten years of apprenticeship learning their craft before they are considered ready to take a mission of their own.

Dark Heresy also tells of VERY high profile, but "ordinary", assassins/bounty hunters/killers taken as adults to Terra and made into Vindicare Assassins. The Inquisition can sometimes make requests on behalf of a particularly gifted candidate, but the Officio Assassinorum has agents all over the galaxy scouting for new talent. If they are considered suitable may be given an opportunity to test their skills, typically by receiving an anonymous contract to assassinate a dangerous target. If they succeed then they are taken by a swift vessel directly to the Assassinorum Temple where they begin their brutal apprenticeship as if they were child candidates, receiving the same biological implants to increase their speed and accuracy as well as hypno conditioning to harden their minds and effectively burn their old identity away.

Though all Temple Assassins are augmented to some degree or another, usually to increase their reflexes and response times, Vindicares are not shapeshifting infiltrators, drugged-up death machines with two hearts, or psychic voids; instead they are just a dude with a very nice gun. The Vindicare Temple is probably the least biologically interesting of the big four and is probably one of the reasons that adult candidates might be considered acceptable. While a Vindicare Assassin is still a perfect specimen of the physical human form, their particular direction is more related to maintaining mental discipline, allowing them to hold perfectly still for VERY long periods of time (we can be talking years) waiting for the perfect shot, without suffering from the stresses of loneliness or degrading due to physical atrophy. Perhaps because of this incredible self-discipline, it appears that they are most suited to leadership roles when the various Temples get together to form an Execution Force.

Fully fledged Assassins are ordered to avoid all human contact, except for their handlers. Even though sometimes there will be other circumstances that prevent them from succeeding (say their target chokes on a bagel and dies) and there has got to be some situations where interacting with others could be the key factor in getting to the necessary vantage point to put a bullet into the guy. This is meant to reduce the chance of heresy or desertion - if they don't know even the basics of socialization, it'll be hard for them to hesitate to fire or to be corrupted. Difficult, but not impossible. Grimdark indeed.

(Heck, Warmaster Horus managed to sway one of them to SWITCH SIDES and targeted Euphrati Keeler! He fails thanks to Garro though)

Armament
The primary weapons are the Exitus Sniper Rifle and the Exitus Pistol. These weapons are provided to the Assassin as part of a matching set, hand-crafted by a Magos of the Adeptus Mechanicus. They are perfectly customised to the specification of the particular individual and are some of the finest weapons that the Imperium has ever produced. Both Pistol and Rifle can chamber the same ammunition, meaning there is no need to carry separate magazines and they both incorporate sophisticated miniature machine spirits and silencers.

The ammunition for those weapons are just as interesting as the weapons themselves. Each round contains a micro-cogitator that turns it into a guided projectile that is able to make corrections to its trajectory mid-flight making it almost impossible for the target to avoid or dodge. This is especially good considering that they are being fired at by some of the greatest marksmen in the galaxy with one of the finest weapons available, meaning that a kill shot is virtually guaranteed. Each round can also be programmed to self-destruct after being fired where it will disintegrate and leave no evidence, or any valuable technology that can be stolen and replicated.

The rounds can be further modified for various purposes, though these specialist rounds are incredibly difficult and time-consuming to manufacture, meaning they don't get issued in large amounts.
*Shield Breaker Rounds: each round is treated with a psychically charged imprint and contains anti-phase technology that allows it to pass through any protective energy shield from any source, whether technological or warp based. The Mechanicus doesn't really understand how this works, but they know enough to replicate it.
*Hellfire Rounds: The Exitus round contains a vial of mutagenic acid that can eat away at organic matter and corrode metal.
*Turbo-Penetrator Rounds: a "hypervelocity adamantine jacketed shell surrounding a magno-sealed flux needle". Essentially a super-duper sabot round that can pierce any target down to the the molecular level.

Aside from weapons, the suit the Vindicare wears is a work of art: their Synskin is a cameleoline bodyglove that bonds with the assassin's body to enhance their reflexes and protect them from exposure to hazardous environments as well as providing a modest amount of armour. The stealth capabilities renders them invisible to several types of sensor while the cameleoline makes them simply harder to see when they remain motionless; making it the perfect tool for an embedded sniper.

The Vindicare Spy Mask is also a sophisticated piece of equipment that contains a huge variety of tools from wide spectrum photo-visors, auspexes, magnoculars, and pict-recorders for finding their target at vast distances. It has a multi-channel comm sensor for monitoring enemy communications, as well as a rebreather and cartridges of concentrated food and water capsules for extended operations in unfriendly environments. The systems in the mask are barely understood by the Tech-Priests who manufacture it and each one is gene-coded to the specific assassin to ensure that it cannot be used by the enemy if it somehow gets lost.

Vindicare Fashions
Vindicare Assassins are some of the most sexiest beasts out there, with a tight latex suit, glorifying their abdominal power. They also are known to wear LOEVLY masks, which are way smexy-er than the other assassins'. Reports of them being partial to pointy ears are unconfirmed.

He still keeps his Lightning Reflexes rule above, but now he's a CHARACTER, which means he can only be targeted if he is the closest unit, or by a weapon/unit with a special ability. I don't need to tell you how awesome this is. Speaking of characters, thanks to his Deadshot he can shoot CHARACTERS even if they aren't the closest models, and if you roll a 6 to-wound it does D6 damage instead of D3 damage. In addition, thanks to his Spy Mask, any unit he shoots does not receive any benefits from being in cover. Likewise, his Spy suit ability forces a -1 to-hit modifier which becomes -2 if he's in cover (which he should be). Suffice to say, don't ever think about supercharging Plasma against him.

His Exitus Rifle has took a bit of a retooling. It's now a S5 AP-3 D D3 72" Heavy 1 weapon, that only forces a -1 to-hit modifier if the Vindicare moves. Not too bad compared to 7th, but as I said, it was retooled. It now wounds all INFANTRY on a 2+, and Invulnerable saves cannot be taken against wounds caused by it, but he forgot his Turbo-penetrator rounds and is stuck with his shitty base strength of 5 against vehicles. With the March 2019 mini-index for the Assassins, the Vindicare finally manages to recover his anti-vehicle utility with the Turbo-Penetrator Round Stratagem. For 1CP it lets him deal D3 mortal wounds if he hits instead of rolling to wound, letting him ignore the high toughness of vehicles and monsters. He can't use Head Shot if he uses this stratagem though.

His Exitus pistol is the same as above, but with S4 instead of 5, and is a 12" ranged Pistol (duh). The good news is, Pistols can now be fired into close combat. However, if your Vindicare is in close combat shit has hit the fucking fan.

Did I mention he's now much, much cheaper than he used to be? Yes.

The downside? 2+ to hit, with very few ways of getting him rerolls. Between 1/6 missing and 1/6 failing to wound, he'll fail to force an armor save a bit too often for some people's liking. Also, his 6+ to wound rolls don't cause mortal wounds, which means opponents with a 3+ or better will always get a saving throw.
He's great against anyone reliant on cover/saving throws (assuming you don't roll any ones), but against good old fashioned tanky infantry, he's going to have a tough time. Consider hiding him in cover with a squad of your favorite snipers, so that both units can focus fire and give you a little more consistency while keeping enemies from targeting the assassin directly.

The Chaos Lord is an HQ choice for the Chaos Space Marines, in the game of Warhammer 40,000. They are basically the traitor counterpart to a Space Marine Captain or Chapter Master; a Chaos Lord is usually, though not always, a Heretic Astartes himself. They are not necessarily those who rose through the ranks properly in a hierarchical fashion, but are often those most blessed by the Chaos Gods, which means they gained favoritism points or simply the most powerful or charismatic individuals among the Forces of Chaos. In typical Choas fashion, they are very powerful, but they want more.

The greatest of the Champions of Chaos become Chaos Lords and are often granted hideous mutations and physical alterations by the Ruinous Powers to further their cause. Chaos Lords are so powerful as to be able to bind the other Forces of Chaos to their will, although this often brings a dangerous position as advancement among the Forces of Chaos is commonly achieved through the death or murder of another Chaos Lord or Champion. Some Chaos Lords lead through brute strength, others through cunning and some are maniacs bent solely on self-aggrandizement. Others are true-believing worshipers of Chaos and possess a zealous dedication to the Dark Gods. Overall, their motives and appearance are highly varied and diverse within the realm of Chaos.

You could say that they are basically your edgy and brooding supersoldier that has reached 'peak Edge'. And it seriously shows, just scroll down and look at the list of delightfully and unintentionally hammy and over-the-top hilarious Chaos Lords that has been spawned from Dawn of War itself. They are basically a factory churning out as much memes as possible.

Types of Lords
The Chaos lords usually worship a god whether he (or he/she/it/whatever in the case of Slaanesh) be Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle or Slaanesh. Here are the following lords of the Chaos gods.

{|border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=2 style="margin: 1em;"
|-
| || Lord of Chaos Undivided <br> A lord who refuses to follow any single god. You COULD say they are boring, but saying that's like saying Sindri, Araghast, and Carron are boring, which is hilariously inaccurate. In seriousness the success and power of these lords can vary greatly. They are super vanilla in a....'Chaos-y' way. Still, the fact they aren't completely sucking the cocks (Or cock-pussy for Slaanesh) from the gods means that they are the most flexible of the bunch. Then again, this is in the end, a Chaos Lord we are talking about and they are ultimately always a tyrannical warrior-king who lives to bathe in the blood of worlds. Hence, despite their generic blandness, they are not to be fucked with. The most famous Undivided lord has no arms.
|-
| || Lord of Khorne <br> A crazed maniac who drinks blood, and eats whatever he just killed. Raw. Each of these Chaos Lord is a looming brute in gore-stained armor. Many such lords retain their intellect and conqueror's instincts, but their blood-greed is so strong that, upon the battlefield, they could easily be mistaken for mindless savages. It matters little, for so frenzied are the warriors that follow them that they are lost to reason; for lord and follower alike, only the sight of blood holds sway. They like using absurdly sized battle-axes and swords and mauls and all that shit, and are generally the most savage and physically strongest Chaos Lords. Kharn is the craziest motherfucker of all Khorne Lords, who'll kill you in his psychotic blood-lusting rage, but damn is he a great guy.
|-
| || Lord of Nurgle <br> AKA the Lord of Contagion. Some disease filled piece of flesh (Asbestos Aidstartes). Better not give him a hug, or have any physical contact whatsoever, because you'll probably get some disease worse than AIDS (like an incurable version of Syphilis.) They're also nigh-indestructible which is not that much of a surprise. These devout sons of Grandfather Nurgle revel in their foulness, leading Heretic and daemon alike to war. Each Lord of Nurgle has a Mantle of Corruption - a doctrine as set out by Mortarion that defines their weapons and strategies. The Lords of Contagion (as shown above) are the most aggressive of these, and embody the brute-force approach of taking punishment and then dishing it back out, aided all the more in this by their Cataphractii Terminator Armor and Manreapers. By contrast, the Lords of Poxes focus more on attrition and the spread of airborne plagues, while the Lords of Virulence prefer the use of massed bombardment. Other, more obscure Mantles are also said to exist, such as the Mantle of Flux and the Mantle of Parasitism. Legend has it that there's a Mantle out there somewhere that nobody is yet worthy of, as it would make them a being of pure entropy.
|-
The guy is most certainly a drug-addicted <s>pedophile</s> omniphile, not unlike the Dark Eldar. Seriously, they literally are gifted with strange sensory organs and mood amplifiers that allow them to better savor the shocking stimuli of open warfare. Perks include the biggest drug stash and a stable full of sexually insatiable and adventurous men and women who are clusterfucking the shit out of each other. The life of such a lord is a whirlwind of excess that inspires his followers anew with every battle. As such, those minds of the lord reacts so swiftly thanks to a mixture of speed and cocaine that he can fight with blurring speed and dexterity whilst shaking like a human vibrator due to all the hopped up drugs in his system. Their primary pastime is creating webs of lies and plots that serve to somehow give them possession of some chaos McGuffin or summon some Daemons or just in general do some thing that the protagonists must stop. Usually spellcasters who ignores armor and cover, causing much BAW. Curiously enough, in 3rd edition they could be psykers or mundane, and the rank of Chaos Lieutenant existed as the second-in-command of a Chaos Space Marine force. Since the release of Warhammer 40,000 4th Edition, however, Chaos Sorcerers have been moved to a role more resembling that of the Loyalist Space Marines' Librarians rather than possessing variable psychic abilities. However, the Thousand Sons from the 7th edition onwards have reintroduced Sorcerers with Lord statlines and abilities.
But hey, at least you get sweet ass wargear that can only be found in one area. Most noticeable trait is their obsession on dressing up like a Marylin Manson clown or an emo goth cannibal. ==Warhammer Fantasy's Types of Chaos Lords==

It should be noted that the average Chaos Lord in Warhammer Fantasy has +1S and +1T over his 40K cousins. So essentially, these normal (though quite Norse) men empowered by the Chaos Gods are stronger and tougher than the aforementioned genetically engineered superhuman demigod warriors empowered by Chaos. Just goes to show how tough people in Warhammer Fantasy are, eh? (Actually, Strength and Toughness scale differently in 40k than it does in Fantasy. For example, a Captain of the Empire (who is a normal human) has S4 whilst the equivalent Strength in 40k would be a Space Marine. So a Chaos Lord in Warhammer Fantasy having S and T 5 would probably be the same as S and T 4 in 40k)

Lords of Khorne: A ten foot tall, four foot broad Viking warlord in inch-thick plate armour with a serious fucking anger management problem. Will fuck up your shit up from Norsca straight to the Golden Shithouse. Tends to favor fuckhuge battle-axes, swords, hammers and, in the case of one helluva woman, a giant fuck-big spear. Primarily enjoy raiding, pillaging, burning, and getting into fights with huge fuck-big monsters and then killing them and ripping out their skulls. Also, if there's one thing Lords of Khorne amongst the Norscans love almost as much as spilling blood, it's boasting about how much blood they've spilled. Valkia the Bloody is a fine example of a Khornate Chaos Lord and is essentially a crazy Valkyrie who carries the souls of the valorous dead into the halls of Chaos Valhalla, because the Warriors of Chaos are motherfucking Vikings.

Champions/Exalted Champions of Tzeentch: Sorcerers, just like the ones in 40k, but the main difference is that they wear XBAWX HUEG ARMOR (although Sorcerers in 40k wear your typical pauldrons, so there really is not much difference between these Sorcerers and those Sorcerers). Funny thing, is that in some of the older rules, champions of Tzeentch could only be fielded as Chaos Lords, not as Sorcerers.

Champions/Exalted Champions of Nurgle: Just like the ones from 40k. The only difference is that they have difficulty getting into their armor on account of their festering, huge, disgusting bellies. They will go out of their ways to hug you. An example would be Festus the Leechlord.

Champions/Exalted Champions of Slaanesh: Same as 40k but the horrors of Slaanesh seem to have deadened their fear, they will never break, and they are also described as very vain in the fantasy universe. An example would be Sigvald the Magnificent.

Champions/Exalted Champions of Chaos Undivided: See above.

Chaos Lords in DoW II
Since Chaos only came in during DoW II's first expansion, the only unique Chaos Lord featured thus far is a Black Legion champion named Araghast the Pillager, who is by far the biggest slice of chaotic awesome to break the previous DoW Chaos Lords' streak of awkward dialogue and meme production.

Araghast, Eliphas, and all other generic Chaos Lords (who are actually Eliphas) in skirmish are dedicated to Khorne, so that pretty much makes them a close-quarters monster. With goddamn health regeneration. At level one, with no wargear, he can easily take down anything short of a Howling Banshee squad. Unlike the other offensive heroes who have gear and abilities designed around helping their units break the enemy lines, the Chaos Lord is designed around making himself an unstoppable murder machine. Give him his Lightning Claws and the Harness of Rage (restores energy whenever he hits something) and Dark Halo (causes energy to take damage first before health, very good if you kept getting hit), or Icon of Khorne (restores health with each attack) he'll become, without exception, the most lethal melee commander unit in the game. Srsly, he'll outdamage the Warboss and Hive Tyrant. This combined with his immunity to suppression from the get go, his fucktons of health (srsly, only the Hive Tyrant has more, and that only by a hairs breadth, though a Warboss with 'Eavy Armor or a Force Commander with Terminator armor will have a lot more health than he can have with any armor loadout. Though I guess that's off-set by the fact that those two have paper thin armor, and the CL was pretty durable, until they replaced his super-heavy armor with regular hero armor. Fuck it.) and his aforementioned health draining (Kill the Weak!) makes him one of the best/if not the best, commanders in the game.

Okay, he does have drawbacks. He's designed around melee and that's about all his good for. Compared with other offensive heroes his upgrades do not give him as much health. As such he is exceedingly vulnerable to just getting shot to death, especially while tar pitted, and his ranged damage sucks and both his melee options take away his ability to gun. Since he's in Terminator Armor, he's slower than most other commanders, and Chaos' lack of transports means he has trouble fleeing if things go south. The guard can mob him with cheap soldiers while meltaguns chew through his healthbar like nothing or the commissar separates his head from his body with a las pistol execution, orks can tie him up with sluggas and then dakka him to death, the eldar can tie him down with banshees to let wraithguard rape him, and tyranids can spam hormagaunts to let venom cannons shoot him apart. So don't send him without support! Though that rely applies to all commanders in the game

Prior to Retribution, while he slaughtered infantry, he sucked against vehicles as none of his upgrades gave him much damage against them, up until somebody realized that nobody was using the Blood Maul since all it offered compare the Lightning Claws was a better special ability, so it was turned into AV weapon.

His other global ability, Malignant Blindness is generally useless, it reduces enemies to 1/10 of their line of sight, sounds great on paper, but in practice it doesn't do much since they can still see an enemy that's shooting them, so your hoping to nail heavy weapon squad, they will still chew up your units when you start shooting them.

One other drawback is the ability picking him gives the least useful worship ability to the Heretic squads. The Chaos Sorcerer's worship Tzeentch infiltrates nearby units (i.e makes them invisible) and the Plague Champion's worship Nurgle speeds up health regeneration (which stacks with the healing aura granted by the HQ building, the ability is considered one of the Plague Champion's main strengths). Worship Khorne, makes units move faster. That might sound good, but keep in mind while Heretics are using their worship ability, they can't move, and the AOE for it isn't very big, so this ability will only give a very temporary speed boost before the units its affecting more out of its range. It's not completely useless, but it is situational while the other two abilities are pretty easy to find uses for.

Notable Chaos lords
*Abaddon the Despoiler (aka Failbaddon the Armless) - Chaos Lord of the Black Legion and Warmaster of Chaos. Spends his time trying to conquer Cadia, and losing to Creed. On his 13th Black Crusade right now and has finally succeeded in destroying Cadia.
*Kharn the Betrayer (Pretty fun guy) - Chaos Lord of a World Eaters Warband. Spends most of his time killing everything in sight, including some of his fellow World Eaters. Reportedly has a hilarious sense of humor.
*Typhus the Traveler - Chaos Lord of a Death Guard Warband. Few can survive him in combat. Fewer still can live stand the smell long enough to try and fight him.
*Lucius the Eternal, sick bastard extraordinaire, originally of the Emperor's Children, Slaanesh gave him an infinite lives hack.
*Ahzek Ahriman, sorcerer of the Thousand Sons.
*Lord Bale (SSSSSSIIIIINNNNNDDDRRRRRIIII!!!) - Was a Chaos Lord of an invading Alpha Legion Warband on the planet of Tartarus. Got Sindri'd by the trope named Sindri Myr.
*Crull (BLOOD FOR TEH BLOOD GAWD!!!) - Was the Chaos Lord of a World Eaters Warband on Lorn V. Failed and got his skull taken by Gorgutz.
*Eliphas The Inheritor - Formerly a Dark Apostle of the Word Bearers and a bootlick of Araghast, he then betrayed him and is now a Chaos Terminator Lord of the Black Legion.
*Firaeveus Carron (METHUL BAWXES!!!) - Was a Chaos lord of the invading Alpha Legion Warband on Kaurava.
*Araghast the Pillager (Face me, if you dare!) - Was a Chaos Terminator Lord of the Invading Chaos Warband on Aurelia. Got Sindri'd by Eliphas.
*Nemeroth - Was a Chaos Terminator Sorcerer Lord of the Chosen of Nemeroth invading the forgeworld of Graia. He is noted as being the first Chaos Sorcerer in a Relic game with the use of Terminator Armour (with Araghast having the honor of being the first Chaos Terminator Lord of the Dawn of War series and Eliphas as the second Chaos Terminator Lord).
*Lugft Huron - Was formerly chapter master of the Astral Claws chapter, then decided that looting and pillaging would be more fun and renamed his chapter the Red Corsairs. Is probably the second most powerful Chaos Lord after Abaddon (and is much less of a failure).
*Honsou, warsmith and maker of sick shit.

Nurglings are the lesser daemons of Nurgle who are with affection referred to as 'Nurgle's little boils' by his worshipers, as 'Little Lords' by members of the Death Guard and as 'vile pusbags' and 'arrrrghh what the hell is that thing?!' by everyone else. Despite this, their models are alarmingly cute. They are born from the pustules and tumors that grow inside a Great Unclean One, although any stalwart follower of Nurgle is able to give birth to one of these through his own skin.

A Nurgling looks like a miniature version of Nurgle himself: a tiddly bloated man-shaped critter, crawling with disease and difficult to look at (like all daemons). They rarely reach over a foot in height and as much in width. They are playful creatures, often demanding constant attention and frequently rough and tumble with each other. The Great Unclean Ones laugh at the antics of the Nurglings and pat them with affection and shower them with scraps of meat. They're sometimes eaten as snacks though, not that this matters much, as they simply crawl back out of some open wound or another. Other worshipers of Nurgle are not so forgiving of the Nurglings; the Plaguebearers see them as irritating nuisances that get in the way and mess up their attempts at counting things (like for example, one counting how many drops of pus it takes to fill a pool might have to start over when a Nurgling decides to splash through it).

Individually, a Nurgling isn't physically powerful and not a threat in itself; it is the diseases that inhabit them that are the true threat. To let them touch you is to invite lethal pathogens inside your biosphere. Their combat strength is in numbers; Nurglings will often drown much tougher enemies in endless swarms that move like rivers underfoot of advancing Nurglish armies.

Just like most other pets in 40k and Warhammer Fantasy, Nurglings can and will willingly perform tricks. It is highly recommended to bring a Nurgling to a karaoke night, as its connection to the Warp and daemonic power could be used as a magnifier for your voice to turn into a magnificent wail. After the success that karaoke night will obviously be, make sure that your lovely voice did not attract any lonely daemonettes.
The most lethal weapon against a Nurgling is a broom, the best tactic against a swarm is a good ol' fashioned flamethrower.

Glitchlings
Glitchlings are close relatives to the Nurglings, first reported in M32 after Perturabo made a pact with Nurgle to conquer the Forge World of Toil. Perturabo's ritual saw the machines rise up against the planet's ruling Tech-Priests as the Iron Warriors invaded. It was then that the Glitchlings appeared among the rambling cybernetic horrors. These buggers are distinguishable by their semi-mechanical appearance and the disruptive aura that surrounds them. They are known to fight beside any creature that has been infected by the Gellerpox plague.

Like gremlins, they cause machinery of all types to malfunction and fail in their presence and show a perverse amusement at the distress their victims show when their weapons fail at the worst possible time. The true purpose of the Glitchlings is to bring entropy and disease to machines just as Nurglings bring pestilence and disease to the organic.

Though their primary purpose is to disrupt technology, Glitchlings are also malicious creatures that will engage in battle with an enemy. Although no more formidable than a regular Nurgling, their touch is just as imbued with infection and disease.

Glitchlings first made their appearance in the Kill Team Rogue Trader expansion.

heresy

Plaguebearers are the most common of Nurgle's lesser daemons, though they are not the only ones. Because nurglings weren't tall enough to hurt big things or smart enough to count diseases, Papa Nurgle decided to give his most well-behaved kids arms, legs, rusted swords and big brains for numbering sores, pustules and festering wounds. They sit at tables counting and naming all sorts of disgusting things and unlike most of Nurgle's daemons, they are somber and focused on their work, and even in battle they incessantly count the number of people they've killed. They represent the futility of mankind's obsession with bringing order from chaos. They document the gifts of Nurgle, and the constant droning chant of their findings inflicts the diseases described within the chant on all who hear it. Your average plaguebearer (judging from the models and artwork featuring them) is almost nine feet tall and looks like the corpse of a drowned human with almost skeletal limbs, two-toed feet (or three-toed feet), a horn (or three), and a single eye (or three, but only if arranged like Nurgle's symbol).

In 40k these guys were the second hardest thing to kill right behind Plague Marines, but in 7th edition changed them up a bit. They're not nearly as durable, but they're a lot cheaper, and gain shrouded, giving them staying power when in cover comparable to the old version. They still excel at holding objectives, especially those in cover (2+ cover save in ruins, without having to go to ground), but are otherwise a mixed bag. They are 9 point infantry that can literally kill ANYTHING in the game, but that doesn't change the fact that small groups of them struggle in combat against guardsmen.

In 8th Edition these blokes are even more shit. They've lost Shrouded, which has been replaced with Cloud of Flies, definitely not nearly as useful as it only provides a -1 to-hit modifier for enemy attacks and only if there are 20 or more Plaguebearers in the unit. Similar to AoS except it's -1 for both melee and shooting attacks. While they have the usual 5+ Invulnerability and Disgustingly Resilient (5+ FNP) they are only T4 with 1 wound. The good news is Plagueswords allow you to reroll any failed wound rolls (tho again this is a nerf from previous incarnations), and Daemonic Icons can be interesting as rolling a 1 on any Morale test lets you add D6 additional Plaguebearers to the unit. Instruments of Chaos just add 1" to any Advance/Charge rolls.

In Age of Sigmar, Plaguebearers serve as the ultimate tarpit. Their abilities not only effectively give them TWO SAVES (one save against mortal wounds as well), being near a HERO OF NURGLE lets them reroll 1s from their first save. Combined with units of 20+ giving -1 to hit them in melee and -2 for ranged means they can easily hold their ground for the entire battle, even against mortal wound-centered armies.

Notable Plaguebearers
*Epidemius is the Tallyman of Nurgle, his most favored plaguebearer. A regular Herald of Nurgle on the tabletop aside from his Tally. Every turn that passes, it will make you more and more annoying and your opponent will rage, devoting a lot of aggression to getting rid of this palanquin-riding fatboy. Unless he's playing Grey Knights, in which case you shouldn't even be playing with him. Once legendary-- Epidemus's tally once actually allowed Plague Marines to fire bolters with AP "ignores armor saves" and granted them a 3+ feel no pain. These days are over, as the power of Nurgle wanes... But Nurgle's power always returns...
*Horticulous Slimux (or "Old Sour-Seed", as the Nurglings call him when he's not around) is rumored to be the oldest of all of Nurgle's daemons. As the Grand Cultivator, he's in charge of maintaining the Garden of Nurgle. Aiding him in this is his mount, the giant snail Mulch. He originally appeard in the AoS Blightwar boxed set, but like every other Daemon unit he has rules in the 40K Codex for Chaos Daemons.

Herald of Nurgle
Basically what happens when a lesser daemon earns an upgrade by basically being the teacher's pet. Daemonic Heralds are exalted Lesser Daemons who have gained the favor of their Gods, often leading Daemonic armies into battle.

Uniquely among daemons, plaguebearers are formed from the souls of mortals, specifically, from the victims of Nurgle's Rot. As the victim grows physically sicker, his soul begins to decay as well, forming a monstrous pod-like structure in Nurgle's garden which breaks open to form a new plaguebearer as soon as the victim either accepts Nurgle's "gifts" or succumbs to the disease… whichever comes first.

The souls of mortals which survive the longest before finally giving into Nurgle's Rot go on to form the Heralds of Nurgle. The most common variant of which is the Poxbringer. These larger, more powerful Plaguebearers often lead armies of their kind and sometimes mount Rot Flies to form squadrons of Plague Drones.

There are also two new variants of these heralds which are cringe-to-the-balls called Sloppity Bilepipers and Spoilpox Scriveners.

Poxbringers
clear
The one you want to bring if you want to make your standard Plaguebearer even more mindbogglingly hard to kill.

One of the most common variants and the one that is the most sensibly named. Poxbringers are a type of Herald of Nurgle and are the most common lieutenants of the Great Unclean Ones, in the Chaos God's Daemonic armies. They stand taller and broader than the Plaguebearers that surround them and project an air of malign authority, which help ensure the Great Unclean Ones' orders are carried out to the letter and allow a more cohesive and tactical mindset.

In battle the Poxbringers wield their Baleswords with prodigious strength, to hack down the enemy's champions and sorcerers, while also unleashing their own special versions of unclean spells to corrupt and despoil.

Poxbringers, like most Heralds of Nurgle, possess a strength and hardiness that belies their rotten frames, as well as a jovial nature somewhat at odds with the world-weary aspect of their droning minions.

Sloppity Bilepipers
clear
Sloppity Bilepipers are a type of Herald of Nurgle, that perfectly sum up the repugnant jollity of the Plague God. Essentially a Nurglite Harlequin.

The Sloppity Bilepipers have a ridiculous name, and are ridiculous enough to match: they're jesters that spread a disease that can make you laugh yourself to death (The disease itself is called the Chortling Murrain, and the Heralds are themselves also the victims and carriers of the disease) and any Plaguebearer that is deemed incompetent is turned into one as a punishment; when the disease goes into remission, they're transformed into a musical instrument for the next Sloppity Bilepiper to use. They'd be right at home in the Carnival of Chaos.

Sloppity Bilepipers cavort and joke with Nurglings, Great Unclean Ones and Beasts of Nurgle (but not Plaguebearers, who lack a sense of humor) and their appearance on the battlefield strikes both a lethal amount of Wat and Lulz into the hearts of their mortal foes.

Their equipment are crafted with a set of jolly gutpipes and a marotter.

Spoilpox Scriveners
clear
If you thought regular Plaguebearers lacked a sense of humor, the Spoilpox beats them to the ground. Spoilpox Scriveners are a type of Herald of Nurgle, that are downright dour creatures when compared to the Plague God's other Daemons.

Whereas the Sloppity Bilepipers entertain both the enemies of Nurgle and Nurgle's children with plenty of joy, the Spoilpox Scriveners on the other hand are in charge of making sure Plaguebearers meet their tallies. To aid them in this, they have a gigantic mouth to fling abuse and insults to their minions. This causes the Plaguebearers to fight even harder and makes them a strategic linchpin in Nurgle's armies.

Their constant bitching and whining is helped with their access of a giant fucking mouth-trunk that would look not so out of place in a set for Little Shop of Horrors.

It is said their only pleasure in existence is in catching one of their underlings slacking off so they can yell at him. Yeah, they're almost as butthurt and unnecessarily pissed off as the Rot Flies.
Pink shifting masses of limbs and Warp-fire. Tzeentch's foot soldiers, they are amongst some of the most contradicting Daemons as they're described as being cheerful, madly babbling, madly happy and constantly emitting noises of almost ecstatic excitement giving them two other names of Squealer and Screamer (not to be confused with another Daemon already named Screamer while serving the god of ambition, politics and Just as planned. Just like other Daemons of Tzeentch they are capable of sorcery. Depending on the might of a Horror, this sorcery can range from the common hurling of warp flames or Bolts of Change to more exotic powers, such as the creation of arcane items from their bodies or the manipulation of mortal minds by imitating strange and exotic musical instruments. The most powerful Horrors belong to the ranks of the Daemonic Heralds, some of which ride Burning Chariots of Tzeentch.

Pink Horrors enjoy casting spells and such aggressive acts will only spur them onto to wilder behavior and greater expressions of manic excitement. Horror Packs rely heavily on their ranged sorcerous attacks but even in melee they are difficult to deal with. Although weaker than most other daemons in close combat, their magical, twisting bodies are hard to destroy; they enjoy a contradictory blessing of Tzeentch that makes their highly mutable forms resistant to change inflicted by external forces and can in fact regenerate whole limbs with ease.

Dawn of War fucked them up, making them only usable against vehicles but on the tabletop, you can infinitely troll the living shit out of your opponent with them. Just keep them out of melee range.

Blue Horror
When Pink Horrors are destroyed, they sometimes split into two half-as-powerful versions of their parent daemon. In contrast to their manic, cheerful, mischievous "parents", Blue Horrors are sad, whiny and grumpy, but oh boy do they throw lots more doombolts.

Originally, there were extremely complex rules to account for this splitting ability on the tabletop, but Games Workshop eventually realised that this didn't work for wargames as well as it did for RPGs and so they removed the rules, explicitly for players' sanity, and made it a fluff-only matter. Well ok, semi-crunch; if a Pink Horror died, his two Blue Horrors would make one attack each and then literally derp and whine themselves into oblivion. That was until they changed their mind and put the over complicated bullshit back in the game with the Wrath of Magnus.

Notable Blue Horrors
*The Blue Scribes, P'tarix and Xirat'p (real funny Games Workshop) were tasked by Tzeentch to collect every spell in the galaxy. They squabble a lot, and have this weird quirk. P'tarix can write spells on paper but can't read them, while Xirat'p can cast spells by reading but doesn't know shit about magic. This is represented by Watch this! where they sometimes cast the same spell every turn. This was intentionally done by Tzeentch so that the two could never successfully rebel against him if they get ambitious enough.

Brimstone Horrors
AKA Yellow Horrors recently added in Age of Sigmar, oddly never mentioned until now since three is a running theme for Tzeentch when a blue horror dies they turn into a pair of angry little fire daemons.

Named for a stench so strong it offends even other Daemons, these diminutive Warp creatures may look bright and whimsical, but they are in truth spiteful and vindictive. They realize that the glories of authority and prominence are forever beyond them.

They are even weaker than Blue Horrors but they off set this by being on fire. Those that try to extinguish them or stamp them out are quickly surrounded, the Brimstone Horrors joining hands in an incandescent ring around them and singing kumbaya as they turn their victims into blazing pillars of flame. They along with their older brothers form the Lord of JUST AS PLANNED! equivalent of the Russian matryoshka dolls.

Herald of Tzeentch
Basically what happens when a lesser daemon earns an upgrade by basically being the teacher's pet. Daemonic Heralds are exalted Lesser Daemons who have gained the favor of their Gods, often leading Daemonic armies into battle.

Heralds of Tzeentch are the most powerful and magically gifted Horrors. These beings are the most intelligent and independent of the Pink Horrors, capable of using their sorcery forcefully enough to blast an opponent into oblivion or weave cunning illusions. Curiously, although Heralds are often the same lurid hue as Pink Horrors, they do not morph into a pair of Blue Horrors when struck.

Such Daemons have enough consciousness to direct others of their kind without constant guidance from a Lord of Change, directing furious sorcery against Tzeentch’s enemies. The mere presence of a Herald of Tzeentch drastically increases the abilities of nearby Daemons, mutating them into new and stronger forms and empowering their warp shenanigans.

Unsurprisingly, these more evolved horrors start to resemble more like their big birds than their lesser amorphic blobs of fleshy cousins.

They often ride Discs or Burning Chariots of Tzeentch into battle. Variants include Fateskimmers, Fluxmasters, and Changecasters.

Changecasters
clear
Like their Nurglite counterparts, the Poxbringers. Changecasters are the most common types of Herald of Tzeentch and are named for the mutating magics they wield. They can often be found leading packs of Horrors within a host of a Scintillating Legion, a task much akin to herding beasts, for the Horrors will likely caper off at any moment. Other Changecasters serve in more mundane and less frustrating roles, guarding sources of magical power or overseeing repairs within the Crystal Labyrinth.

Changecasters are considered as troop leaders of lieutenants of the Changer of Ways and are the closest in resemblance to their smaller and more happier Horror cousins, whereas the other Heralds look like a mixture of a Horror and a Lord of Change.

Changecasters don't get the awesome privilege on riding a Burning Chariot of even a Disc of Tzeentch. Instead they are used as elite infantry with a leadership bonus.

Fateskimmers
clear
Fateskimmers are a type of Herald of Tzeentch, who have most likely through trickery acquired a Burning Chariot. More often than not, intentionally stealing the original owner's personal pimp mobile whilst watching their rage intensify at their shit eating grin. This is unsurprising given the 'friendly' rivalry between Horrors and Flamers, with the Flamers of Tzeentch being the primary riders of these chariots.

These Heralds will swoop and dive across the battlefield, cackling madly as they unleash fearsome sorceries from their lofty perches before smashing their bizarre contraption into the enemy lines. They will trail flames and warp-induced Bullshit, a Herald of Tzeentch streaks across the skies bringing with it fiery doom.

The most cautious and controlling of the Fateskimmers lurk upon a battle's edge, where they move along the back lines of their host and yell orders amidst the madness and change-fire. However, there have also been several instances of Fateskimmers leading entire formations of Burning Chariots to war.

Fluxmasters
clear
Fluxmasters are a type of Herald of Tzeentch, who ride atop a Disc of Tzeentch and are so named because the great speed they fly at, reshapes reality in their wake. In the battlefield, no one is completely safe from a Fluxmaster (Except for a few specific examples) as these little daemon chickens shower the battlefield with shimmering blue flames.

Fluxmasters are often used as messengers and outriders within Tzeentch's Scintillating Legions, and will frequently use their speed to dash into cover before using their psychic powers to hurl changebolts to smite their foes. Some will lead packs of Screamers in charges on the enemy's flanks, while others take charge of groups of Horrors, using their speed and advantageous position to better augment and direct their charges or confound their foes.

Should an enemy appear vulnerable, the Herald will dash in, using its staff of change to cause horrendous mutations while the horns and teeth of the Disc deliver their own punishments.
