The Von Carsteins are a Bloodline (type of vampires related by a lineage of being turned leading back to the very first vampires) of Vampires from Warhammer Fantasy. They are the posterboy Bloodline of the faction, best summarized as the Dracula Bloodline (or the Tremere for Vampire: The Masquerade fans).

History
Vashanesh
The original Von Carstein is not really named Von Carstein; Vlad von Carstein is the made up name of Vashanesh, ex-husband of the first vampire Queen Neferata. Neferata's idiot brother ruled their kingdom of Lahmia, although due to his ineffectual rule the real power behind the throne was his sister. He along with the rest of her royal court in Lahmia shared her Elixer which she and Arkhan the Black perfected using the Books of Nagash. After an..."accident" (probably involving blood loss, maybe a bit of mutilation and castration) Neferata took the throne; despite being the Pharaoh of a kingdom described as highly sexist (contrast with Neferata's cousin's kingdom which was fine with a female monarch) Vashanesh is barely mentioned as even being important among the vampires themselves meaning he was most likely a relaxed political puppet for his wife. After some overly opulent living leading to some badly botched efforts to keep the secret of Vampirism under wraps the Vampires were attacked and defeated by other Nehekharans, forcing them to flee to the side of the guy who invented Necromancy, Nagash himself.

After the defeat of the Vampires and Nagash and during the death of Nehekhara/birth of the Tomb Kings, Vlad and all but two of the other Vampires who had stood with Nagash's forces fought and blamed each other for the loss (Neferata had left before the battle occurred, and Abhorash had fought until defeat before leaving without a word to the others). Nagash's EXTREMELY angry spirit cursed all Vampires with the assorted mythological weaknesses like inability to cross running water and not having reflections (the latter because by nature Vampires are extremely vain) causing the embittered Vampires to flee his wrath by making their own ways through the apparently quite passable "impassible" mountains separating Nehekhara from the Old World.
Vlad avoided the entanglements of greenskins that hindered the others and found his own way to The Empire Of Sigmar. Vampires were still mostly an unknown to the humans of Warhammer Europe, despite Sigmar himself having fought them and there being a minor matter of the Empire marching to destroy Mourkain during the story of W'soran and Ushoran. Thanks to the status quo-enforcing policies of Neferata's web of international sexy spies the common folk knew little of Vampires and feared them only among the various other things that are probably lurking in the night.

According to a later retcon Vashanesh never existed. In the new version Vlad's old identity was a noble ally of Neferata's named Ankhat who mostly managed the day to day operations of the city, and Neferata never remarried after her brother was killed. As of The End Times the rulebook confirms he was Vashanesh... while the novel never mentions the name and says Neferata only ever loved Arkhan. At this point, pick a canon you like.

Vlad and Isabella
After spending some time gathering information Vashanesh found that he had come to a land called Sylvania. Sylvania was poor and ruled primarily by corrupt leaders who were hated and feared by the populace. The magic Wind Of Death blew strongly through Sylvania, causing madness in much of its inbred nobility and giving the land a cursed and barren landscape. He also discovered that the leader of the region, the mad count Otto Von Drak, had an inheritance crisis due to having no son to inherit and an intense hatred of his brother Leopold Von Drak. Vashanesh invented the name Vlad Von Carstein, obtained some nice clothes, and presented himself as the handsome nobleman to the court of Castle Drakenhof interested in joining the family. Otto, on his deathbed in the year of 1797, almost immediately gave "Vlad" his daughter Isabella as a wife and died soon after that. Leopold had an "accident" of falling off a tower (possibly involving blood loss, most likely due to Vlad literally tearing his heart out of his chest for Isabella) and the Sigmarite priest vanished (blood AND body loss!).

Vlad began a network operation of discovering who's who among Sylvanian nobility, greatly aided by Isabella. Although loyal in concept to the Von Drak line she had a great deal of hatred for her father and those of the court, and eagerly made herself more than just a pawn to her new husband. She accepted his Vampiric nature and fell in love, slowly creeping her way into his heart as well. With her guidance Vlad turned the most loyal (read: least batshit fucking insane) nobles into Vampires while making sure the rest met with various "accidents" (probably involving blood loss and the complete removal of their family name from all records and tombstones). While Vlad was prone to great bouts of rage at any sleight (like all Nehekharans) Isabella was of a calm temperament, able to calm her husband and lead him back to reason which ensured that only those who truly deserved his anger received it (cruelly, in front of an assembled gathering of the nobility). The common folk of Sylvania, always oppressed and downtrodden, fearing at any moment that a new burst of the local lord's madness would lead to a fresh purge of their friends and family, actually benefited from Vlad's rule; excessive cruelty was not tolerated, and Vlad GREATLY encouraged acting as if they were still mortal which necessitated living servants and workers on the Sylvanian estates. Taxes were more fair and suddenly being killed by a lord was due to their need for sustenance rather than just because said nobleman found them annoying. Vlad eliminated the bandits and corrupt mercenaries, as well as Chaos worship (Sigmar worship suddenly and inexplicably dropped as well after). Most nobles who were turned gladly renamed themselves Von Carstein in Vlad and Isabella's honor (most were related already anyway).

Isabella wanted to remain with Vlad forever, but knew that soon she would start to fall to age, but Vlad refused to make her a Vampire. While Vlad was away she became deathly ill (AKA poisoned herself, which backfired when she got tuberculosis) and he rushed home to save her. Upon arriving home he found that she was dead, but after sending away the healers and mortician he spent three days alone in her room after which she was suddenly perfectly okay (the doctors may have been confused due to sudden inexplicable blood loss).

Age Of The Three Emperors (First War of the Vampire Counts\First Vampire War)
During the events of Mordheim in 1999 on the Imperial Calendar Vlad managed to woo one of his ex's servants, Baroness Katherina von Dernsbach, and sent her to the city to lead Vampire forces in stealing as much Warpstone as possible.

Long before Vlad reached the Empire, the Age of Three Emperors started due to an election crisis following the assassination of Mandred Skavenslayer by Skaven in 1152. A successor was not appointed until 1359 when (through accused bribery) the Count of Stirland became Emperor leading to the Countess of Ottilia deciding SHE was Empress, causing a war which raged on and off until 1547 when the Count of Middenland declared himself Emperor due to a conflict with the Sigmar and Ulric churches. After the infant Countess of Marienburg won the election for Emperor, the Church of Sigmar rejected her rulership. By the time that Vlad had decided the time was right to fight to become Emperor, his rivals were the Countess of Talabecland, the Count of Reikland, and the Count of Marienburg and the Empire was a complete fucking mess.

In 2010, on Geheimnisnacht (AKA Halloween, when Morrslieb is closest to <strike>Mallus</strike> the Warhammer World) Vlad invited the nobility of Sylvania to a feast where the Vampire nobles fed on the remaining mortal nobility after which he consumed all of the gathered Warpstone and read an incantation of Nagash straight from one of the nine Books Of Nagash which caused the undead of Sylvania to rise and march.

Throughout the wars, Vlad was continually killed and to the amazement of all initially, and to his enemies afterwards (the first time one of his subordinates named Herman Posner tried to take over the faction), he returned every night (or within the hour if it was already night) as if nothing happened. This was due to his ring, the Von Carstein Ring, given to him by Nagash at some point which allowed him to return to life as long as he was still wearing it.

First he attacked Talabheim, killing Ottilia, followed by taking Stirland and Ostermark. To end the war in 2051 he laid siege to Altdorf in order to take Reikland and thus the Empire itself. The Grand Theogonist claimed to have received a vision from Sigmar revealing that Vlad's ring was the source of his resurrection in order to prevent the Empire from bowing to Vlad. The greatest thief of the time, Felix Mann (no, not THAT Felix) was sent to steal the ring which was easy due to <strike>rebellious Vampires</strike> Vlad's army believing they had nothing to fear; he ran off with it, and was later caught by Mannfred, who took the ring and his hands before leaving him in a cathedral to die whereupon he was saved by a Dwarf and...the writers forgot about him. Vlad attacked in a rage once he woke up the next night and found the ring gone and wound up in melee combat with the Grand Theogonist on the walls of Altdorf (because getting into a duel during a battle is the perfect reaction to finding out your get out of death free card is missing). Vlad fatally stabbed the Sig-pope, who tackled him straight off the walls and onto the stakes below while Vlad's magic bloodsucking sword filled him with pope-blood (remember, holy burns undead). The combination, without the ring, killed him and prevented resurrection. Isabella, who was in the middle of claiming the Empire with the Reikland claimant at her mercy, killed herself instead in order to be with Vlad. The Vampires retreated to Sylvania and the Empire focused on ending the succession crisis...which didn't happen until 2145.

Age Of The Three Emperors (Second War of the Vampire Counts\Second Vampire War)
After the deaths of the Von Carstein patriarch and matriarch, the bulk of the invading undead army were destroyed by humans or loss of the magic animating them.

The primary contenders for rulership of the Von Carsteins were Mannfred von Carstein, Fritz Von Carstein, Pieter Von Carstein, Hans Von Carstein, and Konrad von Carstein. Mannfred, being a non-confrontational nerd, figured it was a good time for a world tour and immediately fucked off to parts unknown (not before visiting a town with another vampire to carry out a murder-orgy on the most beautiful women there). Fritz attempted to restart Vlad's invasion of the Empire and was killed in Middenheim. Pieter attacked a town where he was killed by Helmut van Hal, one of the Witch Hunter descendants of Frederick van Hal. Hans and Konrad engaged each other in a duel over who was the strongest Vampire, which Konrad won by tearing Hans apart and burning the pieces.

This was unfortunate for the Von Carsteins. Konrad was one of the last Vampires turned by Vlad and for unknown reasons; he was ridiculously insane even by Sylvanian standards, having depopulated towns in mass executions on a whim (specifically, "they smelled bad) and executed his mother for giving birth to him without prior permission by him. He had no talent in magic, insulting and killing Necromancers assigned to him and anyone he thought was mocking his lack of magic ability.

Although inept at leadership, combat tactics, politics, and just about anything else not directly related to sticking something sharp in someone, he managed to intimidate a record number of Necromancers and Vampires into his service and put them into one giant army which steamrolled through the Empire with a record number of Undead. This slowly advancing wave was only capable of destruction, rather than establishing a chain of command and rulership like Vlad had done. Konrad was defeated in 2100 in the Battle of Four Armies (surprisingly not a reference to Tolkien) by the combined armies of Altdorf, Talabheim and Marienburg, but still "won" since the election crisis resulted in the Count of Altdorf and the Ottilia of Talabheim assassinating each other while the count of Marienburg was killed by Konrad, then sent as a Zombie to try and claim the Empire in Konrad's name (which canonically only failed because the Necromancers puppeting him had done a bad job of hiding his decomposition).

In 2121 Konrad was defeated by an army of the Empire and Dwarfs, but only due to Konrad's Necromancers all abandoning him at once after finally getting sick of his bullshit (this is canon). Most of the army crumbled, and after attempting to control them regardless Konrad's already scrambled brain was reheated and pitched out the window resulting in him wandering around in the woods until Thane Grufbad of the Dwarf army and the son of the Count of Marienburg wrestled him to the ground and beheaded him (to put this in context, Vampires can backhand a fucking Ogre or a Chaos Champion, but some random human and Dwarf managed to get him on his back).

Age Of The Three Emperors (Third War of the Vampire Counts\Third Vampire War)
During Konrad's bullshit crusade, Manny had managed to explore Nehekhara, reclaimed some of the Books of Nagash (there's a lore snarl where he apparently claimed all of them despite them all being in multiple places at once and being lost to the sands of time). He managed to commune with Nagash, swearing allegiance, learned from Arkhan the Black, set up ties with the Necrarch Bloodline, and returned just in time to restore order after Konrad got a <strike>Game Of Thrones</strike> Walking Dead side character death.

Mannfred returned to Altdorf to lay siege, but the Church of Sigmar had learned how to effectively deal with Undead and Mannfred's army was crushed. He used ambushes and raiding to put pressure on the Empire until he Battle Of Hel Fen in 2145 where, despite dealing with disease and the sicknesses of the swamps resulting in a massive amount of casualties, Mannfred's largely Zombie-based army was destroyed and his lifeless body sunk into the muck. Thus ended the last Vampire War, and the succession crisis FINALLY ended after nearly going on longer than the Empire itself.

Mannfred's Resurrection
Felix (yes, THAT Felix) saw and wrote about the resurrection of Mannfred during his travels with the God Emperor Of Murderhobos Gotrek. In fact they unintentionally made it possible. Felix and Gotrek were staying at an inn, having been recruited to rescue the innkeeper's adult daughter, Elsa (not a reference to Frozen), who had been captured by a necromancer. They find the Necromancer trying to use her as a virgin sacrifice to resurrect a vampire. Gotrek cuts him in half and they rescue the woman. However the necromancer's blood leaked through the ground onto Mannfred's body and revived him (revealing the necromancer to have been a virgin, which provoked some amusement from Mannfred).

After nearly abusing the innkeeper's hospitality (Gotrek nearly drinking all the booze and Felix attempting to seduce Elsa), a servant of Mannfred's burns down the inn. Deprived of their vices (the booze is burned up and Elsa has too much of a revenge-boner to care about Felix's literal one) and mad at the wanton destruction, they track down the perpetrator. During this time Mannfred had commandeered a ship and put the crew under his thrall (through a mix of vampire charm and the threat of gruesome death) and sailed to a hidden base. Gotrek and Felix track him down to his lair twice. First time he flees after getting a small cut from Gotrek's axe. The second time Gotrek temporarily loses the axe and forced Mannfred to flee by beating him with a pair of silver candlesticks. Mannfred goes into hiding while Gotrek and Felix go to do their thing in later books.

Blood Of Sigmar
Despite the interference of Gotrek and Felix, Mannfred kept his resurrection under wraps in the same manner as the Skaven keep their existence. He actively recruited all Vampires from any Bloodline, assassinating or sabotaging any who didn't sign up with him while avoiding direct conflict with the other Bloodlines. Von Carsteins were bullied back into the chain of command, and Mannfred began his war by attacking the Dwarfs and kidnapping Aliathra, Everqueen heir to the High Elves using a prodded force of greenskins and Heinrich Kemmler.

The sun stopped rising in Sylvania and Vampires became openly active again. Mannfred openly seceded from the Empire in 2522 after declaring himself leader of Sylvania and stole the Crown Of Sorcery AKA Nagash's favorite tiara. Volkmar The Grim attempted a crusade against Sylvania, but the force was defeated and he was taken captive. Balthasar Gelt created a giant magical wall trapping the Undead within Sylvania. Mannfred responded by using the blood of Volkmar, the Fey Enchantress, and Aliathra to create a giant wall of bones inside Sylvania preventing the living from entering.

The End Times
(Fuck this shit, I'm not writing it.)

Short version: the world ended, everyone dies and it was Mannfred's fault.

Age of Sigmar
Bloodlines no longer exist as of AoS since nobody is keeping track of lineage, just loyalty (so far, it is possible for GW to bring back the idea later since it has not been stated they have abandoned the idea). Some Vampires such as Neferata survived the end of the world and the ensuing new timeline, now being far more ancient than the rest of the ancient beings in the setting. Some such as Mannfred were resurrected by Nagash.

Technically speaking the Von Carsteins “exist” in the sense that Mannfred is still around, languishing in a place of torment in Nagash’s own version of hell. Its unlikely humans would survive there making it a Bloodline of one at the time, but he has since sided with anyone against Nagash and any mortals he turns are now part of the Von Carsteins. Since Games Workshop has not comitted to any specific characters not surviving ET, any character can and sporadically has returned so Vlad, Isabella, Konrad, even the named redshirts from past obscure lore, could all be brought back into the story at any time.
That being said, the rest of the Vampire Counts (thus far, since they seem to be making shit up as they go) are Nagash’s and serve under Neferata, with the exception of the “Flesh-eater Courts” which are Ushoran’s. While Ushoran turns his own Vampires which are as a result technically Strigoi, the rest of the Courts are made up of those who have been infected by his madness which spreads like psychic AIDS wherever he or his servants go; any race, any Bloodline, can end up infected and among his Courts.

[[File:Azeroth.jpg|left|1200px|thumb|In the 8th game of the World of Warcraft series, which was the first since the current 8th editions of Warhammer Fantasy and 40K, they also advanced the storyline following the same trend, as we have an official Alliance-Horde war for the first time since Warcraft 3, in total coordination with the real world when long unsettled conflicts, such as the Arab-Israeli war, Grexit, Kim Jong-un, US-China trade war, Fascism emerging in Europe starting from Italy, Neo-ottomanism, American civil war, Monroe dogma over Nicolas Maduro and Lula and even a volcano in Hawaii erupting, are simultaneously all emerging as if we are truly living in a novel.]]
Relations
* Chaos
** Beastmen
Vampire encounters with Beastmen in lore are rare, since both tend to serve the purpose as "guys attacking the Empire" although in Total War: WARHAMMER Isabella remarks that "They would be beautiful if they weren't so disgusting."
** Chaos Dwarfs
Chaos Dwarfs have no concern or interest in the Von Carsteins.
** Daemons
Daemons have virtually nothing to do with the Von Carsteins as Vampires are outside of the cycle of life and death, their souls never returning to the Warp.
** Warriors Of Chaos
The WoC have no concern or interest in the Von Carsteins prior to End Times, when they became rival forces.
* Dwarfs
Von Carsteins antagonize the Dwarfs a great deal, and the Dwarfs aid the Empire whenever they can. As a result the relationship is quite unfriendly and the Dwarfs are more likely to attack the VCs than the other VC Bloodlines.
* Elves
** High Elves
Prior to the taking of the Everprincess by Mannfred, the Von Carsteins were not a concern of the Asur so long as the Empire was still a buffer against Chaos. Afterwards they are one of the worst enemies, second only to the Dark Elves.
** Dark Elves
Dark Elves have no concern or interest in the Von Carsteins. Would probably mad enough to trade with them like any vampire pirate they encountered.
** Wood Elves
Wood Elves have no concern or interest in the Von Carsteins, but will still kill them on sight like any undead since the taint of undeath kills their trees. Similar incident happened when Heinrich raised a bunch of wraith and killed a lot of trees and elves in the Athel Loren.
* Humans
** Bretonnia
The Von Carsteins have almost no contact with Bretonnia, being geographically separated and having no reason to go after the Frenchies when the Germans are still putting up a fight. Still, they would disavow them if they ever met due to their decree against all undead as well as the similar experience they had with the mousillon undead.
** The Empire
The main enemy of the Von Carsteins, seen by the VCs as uppity livestock wandering the fields without masters.
* Lizardmen
Lizardmen have no concern or interest in the Von Carsteins, but will probably still kill them on sight since they are not part of the old one's plan. Plus, lizardmen already had the similar experience with a vampire pirate known as Luthor Harkon, who set up a remote port base on their backyard.
* Ogre Kingdoms
Ogre mercenaries in the Empire, as well as the population living in Ostland, would be concerned about the Vampire Counts but the Kingdoms themselves are likely to work alongside the Von Carsteins as they are to be against them.
* Orcs & Goblins
Lack of fucks given. Just another enemy to fight. But their relationship were much better when Azhag had Nagash's crown and the
Von Carstein wants it for their master's resurrection.
* Skaven
Skaven are generally concerned by the undeads due to their history with that particular frightened lich known as Nagash. Outside of Mordheim they would not acting directly against the Von Carsteins or any other undead in particular since they can't eat their corpses for food. That is unless they carry warp stones.
* Tomb Kings
The Tomb Kings see them like they do any other vampires, enemy number one (though some of the more unscrupulous Tomb Kings may work with Von Carsteins, Settra has a zero-tolerance policy on vampires and working with them). However, being geographically separated means their forays are usually limited to small expeditions. Prior to the End Times, their only interactions were Mannfred stealing some scrolls from their tombs to prepare for Konrad's inevitable downfall and a team-up of Khalida and Arkhan the Black to hunt down a Von Carstein vampire with one of Nagash's staffs.
* Vampire Counts
** Strigoi
While the Von Carsteins had nothing to do with their fall, they have still managed to become a hated enemy. Wandering Strigoi find themselves manipulated into being pawns or simply eliminated to prevent them from bringing unwanted attention from the Empire to the region. Or simply because the Strigoi doesn't know when to stop regarding feeding on the peasants, possibly getting a delicious maiden or elderly warrior that someone who could appreciate the meal could have had. Strigoi in return hate the rich fucks in their fancy castles while they're stuck shivering in cold damp caves.
** Lahmian
The second main enemy of the Von Carsteins after the Empire. While the Von Carsteins want to kick Karl Franz off the throne of the Empire, stick his head on a pike, and make the architecture look like Tim Burton's Dracula wet dream the Lahmians have already taken over the Empire. As well as Bretonnia, Cathay, some Dwarf Holds, part of Ulthuan, and just about everything else not affiliated with Chaos. The two are direct rivals for power, the Von Carsteins pretending to be vampire overlords in crumbling castles while Lahmians pretend to be human overlords in well-furnished and modern decorated castles. Much of the intrigue not related to ruling the world of both Bloodlines is against each other, with a small amount left for kicking Strigoi in the teeth for lulz.
** Blood Dragon
Despite the Dracula connection, Blood Dragons have almost no meaning to Von Carsteins. Neither factors into the plans of the other, neither are a nuisance to the other, and generally speaking there's no known conflict between the two.
** Necrarch
Necrarchs have the same relationship with the Von Carsteins that they do the other Bloodlines (Strigoi excluded). Necrarchs build monsters or discover new spells, they sell them to the Von Carsteins for gold or supplies. While in theory a rivalry with a resurrected Nagash (that the Necrarchs worship) would cause a conflict, in End Times the Necrarchs joined the Von Carstein bloodline but otherwise stayed in the background.

Armies
The Von Carsteins, as the posterboy faction, use every option available to the Vampire Counts. In particular they use Corpse Carts, Black Coaches, and Vargheists, all inventions of the Von Carsteins although later they were adopted by other Bloodlines. Even Bloodline-specific options like the Strigoi Ghoul Kings can be coerced into Vlad or Mannfred's armies (or just be among the more insane of the Sylvanians turned into the family).
No, Seriously
Alpharius is the mysterious Primarch of the Alpha Legion. We don't have much information on him other than that Omegon, his bro, looks exactly like Alpharius.

During the Alpha Legion assault on Pluto Alpharius dueled Rogal and was killed. However....

He was supposedly killed by Roboute Guilliman of the Ultramarines again, but it may be
Omegon who Guilliman killed. It is also heavily implied that he may have just killed any member of
the Alpha legion, though he may have, in actual fact, killed no one, or maybe even killed himself.

Alpharius was the last Primarch found by the Emperor - long after the Emperor had established most of the Space Marine legions, and was in the process of reclaiming the galaxy for humanity. Whilst most of the Primarchs wound up on worlds in Imperial space, Alpharius wound up picked up by derelicts from some unknown world, and grew into a Space Pirate - long before Huron Blackheart made it cool.

One day, on a patrol in a no-name system, Horus' strike group came under attack by pirate forces - mostly small (and ancient by modern standards) fighter craft. The attack was carefully-staged, and the pirates managed to cripple one of the advance ships the fleet had, which forced Horus to move his own ship in to do something about it. When Horus managed to board the advance ship with his retinue, he was shocked to learn that a small team of pirates had somehow gotten on-board and were fighting their way to the bridge. Fighting their way past the chapter serfs, a squad of five burst into the bridge, whereupon Horus opened fire with his Combi-bolter. Four were taken down by Horus' suppressing fire, but the fifth one, who towered over even the Space Marines in Horus' retinue, dodged Horus' barrage, and continued to advance regardless of the oncoming fire. It was only when Alpharius got to close range that he stopped his Eversor-esque charge, as both he and Horus immediately recognized the physical similarity between the two. Horus smiled, for he had found the last of his missing brothers. Just as planned. Or it would be. But unfortunately this story is a lie.

In any case, Horus did not immediately send Alpharius back to Terra - instead, he kept Alpharius around for months, showing him how to get shit done. Alpharius quickly formed a pretty strong bond with Horus, since he seemed like a pretty coolguy who killed aliens and doesn't afraid of anything, and Alpharius and his men quickly adopted the Imperial creed. Horus was greatly impressed with Alpharius' skill, though Alpharius trolled Horus mercilessly by refusing to tell Horus what world he was from, and instead denied that any of the worlds Horus captured and brought into Imperial compliance were his point of origin. The Emperor was pleased when Alpharius was finally found, but by this point there wasn't much time for celebrations - the Great Crusade was in full swing. Alpharius was given command of the newly-formed 20th Space Marine legion, dubbed the Alpha Legion, and proceeded to get to work.

(THIS is without the memes? oh /tg/...)

But Wait!
The above account is considered the most well-known by fa/tg/uys and the gaming community in general, but "recorded facts" tell varying different stories. The Horus Heresy series of books suggests that the above origin story is a lie and gives <u>three more</u> discovery tales about Alpharius, then goes on to assert that they are all lies too but that they contain grains of truth that could lead to an even greater secret.

These are:
*Growing up on a dead world with absolutely no-one to raise and educate him, only escaping by commandeering a Xenos vessel that had landed to plunder the planet's ruins, he then left to discover who made him. But this story is a lie.
*Landing on a human world and living amongst them for ten years, but the planet is then attacked by the Slaugth who kept him as a curiosity and killed the remainder of the population. Alpharius would be saved by the Emperor directly but kept him hidden from public knowledge for many years while his son was rehabilitated. But this story is a lie.
*Alpharius was not fully completed at the time of the scattering of the primarchs, thus was spared OR some part of him remained behind (potentially Omegon?). Either way he remained at the Emperor's side at the beginning of the Great Crusade and acted as His hidden agent until the time was right to reveal him. But this story is a lie.

Before that, a marine that drank Omegon's blood gained memories of Omegon "scheming their way to supremacy" on the twin Primarchs' distant homeworld, for whatever that is worth.

What this suggests, if all four stories are true and taken into context is that the twins were separated at the scattering, one grew up in secrecy with the Emperor and accounts for much of the actions of the XXth legion LONG before the Primarch's "official" discovery, whilst the other twin landed on a separate planet (the human world becoming the dead world when the xenos arrived) and was then raised by Xenos, but escaped (or was rescued) and attempted to search for his creator, finding Horus.

This is supported in Vengeful Spirit by Graham McNeill, during a conversation between Malcador and the Emperor, Malcador reveals that the Dark Angels had come to the aid of Leman Russ and the Space Wolves against the Alpha Legion, to which the Emperor replies: "Alpharius...my son, what chance did you give my dream?" This line is actually revealing on a couple levels. First it indicates that the Emperor is either unaware that Alpharius Omegon is actually two twin Primarchs, which seems unlikely given his whole creation of them using parts of his godlike power and psyche, or that he IS aware of their dual nature but knows that, while Alpharius could give up on the Emperor's dream, Omegon would never actually turn on him. This is further supported by the short story The Board is Set where in the allegorical game of strategies used to represent the outcomes of the Primarch's destinies there were two pieces for the "Twins"; one red and one blue, representing their chosen side in the conflict. It also showed that at least some of the actions of the Emperor were done in order to ensure that the blue Twin did not switch sides and cause an overall Chaos victory. This means that the Emperor and Malcador were both fully aware of the nature of the Twin Primarchs if not their exact whereabouts and activities, as well as knowing that they were at odds with one another and striving to ensure that one of them remained loyal.

Great Crusade
Alpharius, unusual for the Primarchs, developed a very unusual approach to his missions, focusing primarily on flexibility and personal initiative and making extensive use of subterfuge and non-Astartes specialist operatives. This was reflected with the Alpha Legion's symbol - a Hydra, which could strike from multiple directions at once, and which could keep going even with the loss of a head. This multiple-fronts, seemingly-unstructured approach towards warfare, naturally, pissed off Roboute Guilliman, who Alpharius refused to recognize as his spiritual liege, and Guilliman openly called Alpharius' tactics cowardly. Unlike most similar arguments (such as between the Lion and Leman Russ), this one turned violent in record time when Guilliman pointed to the Ultramarines' own record, something Alpharius could never hope to achieve, since Guilliman had a 100-year head-start on the Alpha Legion.

Determined to prove he was an infinitely better commander than Guilliman could hope to be, Alpharius took his forces and went on their very first assignment - a world that had thrown off Imperial rule, and was openly stating its intention to fight off Imperial forces. Rather than land immediately and bring the world to heel through force, Alpharius delayed, and the world fortified heavily. By this point, some two million PDF troopers stood ready to repulse the Space Marine invasion. It was only now that Alpharius struck - by taking advantage of and equipping Imperial-loyal citizens on the planet, Alpharius' forces managed to cause several diversionary attacks that drew the PDF away from their held locations, before a series of bombings cut them off, and the Alpha Legion cut the power to the city's central hive. Within a week, Alpharius had subjugated the world - having lost less than 3 dozen Space Marines in the process. Beaming with pride at his accomplishments, Alpharius returned to a meeting with his brothers with all the smug satisfaction of a Dark Heresy player that had just derailed his GM's campaign.

What he got was not what he expected. Instead of praising him Guilliman rebuked him pretty harshly, claiming that Alpharius' method had been "A waste of time, effort, and the Emperor's bolt-shells". The reason was that, while Guilliman certainly could appreciate the masterful organization and lack of casualties, he was an empire builder and looked beyond immediate conquest and compliance. Guilliman knew that leaving planets "conquered" but in ruins made for difficulty in rebuilding afterwards, and that it costed more effort and pain in the long run than a more strictly clinical alpha strike and that direct approaches (like he had his own Ultramarines do whenever possible) left planets in a better state to use and integrate in the Imperium once the ass-kicking was done. Ultrasmurf style was meant to inspire respect and make it easier to build/rebuild support for the Emprah, instead of leaving a traumatised, resentful population. Alpharius' stratagems had indeed spared Space Marine lives, but in doing so had totaled the rebels' infrastructure which seriously hurt the civilian population and would cost the Imperium much larger amounts of resources to set the planet back on its feet than if he'd gone in openly and just punched the fuckers in the face.

Alpharius was likewise admonished by Rogal Dorn who, while acknowledging the sheer magnitude of what Alpharius had accomplished, dismissed his methods as unmanly and that his legion were "not fit to bear the Emperor's mark" because of the harm it did to the civilians on the planet. He didn't get on well with Mortarion or Russ either, coming close to conflict due to his lack of adherence to battlefield commands (though it seems the lord of the Death Guard rubs everyone up the wrong way). Magnus and his Thousand Sons went out of their way to avoid Alpharius wherever possible, but for unreported reasons. Rotten cherry on top of an already spoiled cake, even fucking Konrad Curze openly mocked Alpharius and his Legion for "hiding his sins in a shroud of lies". (Yeah, because he never hid anything, the bloody prison rapist that he is... Wait, actually he didn't - he displayed his kills openly and broadcast that shit all over the place for all to see and fear.)

Suffice to say, Alpharius was fucking pissed. Many argue he was simply unlucky - had he been on the other side of the galaxy at the time, he would have likely hooked up with other brothers who may have been not only impressed with Alpharius' stunning accomplishment, but likely would have noted it for their own tactical use later and taught him to think about preserving non-combatant lives while he was at it. Though it was noted (with a hint of surprise) that Alpharius successfully campaigned briefly with the Lion and Ferrus Manus without incident. It's unfortunate that he/they never got the chance to fight side-by-side with Corax or even better, Vulkan. Not only is Vulkan THE bro-ing-est Primarch, who not even Mortarion or Curze could hate, Vulkan was one of the Primarch's who firmly instilled the creed of 'Mortals are people too. They don't have our strength, speed or wisdom. They do the best they can with what they have. Look after them', meaning him and Alpharius would've gotten on like a house on fire.

But yeah, sadly enough, Alpharius got chewed up by the stuck-ups and fed up with his available brothers being butthurt faggots, he took off, believing fervently (and pretty accurately) that Guilliman hated him.

Important note Some or potentially all of this may well be Old Fluff. We've learned a lot about Alpharius in recent years as well as getting a more personal picture of the others and this story really does not fit with either of them. We know now that Alpharius was working for the Cabal and thus didn't join Horus because he was pissed or anything, in fact he was working AGAINST Horus so this squabbly stuff doesn't really fit. Perhaps Alpharius wanted to appear bitter and resentful and a natural choice for Horus to recruit but that's clearly not the whole truth. On top of that the spat with Guilliman doesn't sound like the Guilliman we've seen in the books. His own writings specifically say that whatever wins the battle is the right strategy and as a master of logistics it seems weird for Guilliman to bitch about Alpharius winning by using the least resources possible. Maybe he thought Alpharius took too long or left the planet ripe for another rebellion but that's not the same as calling him a coward. On top of that given that a legion like the World Eaters or Iron Warriors would probably have butchered every single person on the planet in an rave-orgy of blood and death, calling a more restrained approach 'cowardly' just doesn't fit. It maybe sounds like Dorn to be pissed off for not developing and fortifying the worlds Alpharius conquered but only the Imperial Fists and Ultramarines really did that; the other legions leaving it to the Imperials following behind them to re-build stuff. Whether Alpharius was playing up the rift to ensure Horus came calling or if this is just totally out of date is unknown but it's safe to say that this stuff isn't the whole truth. Just as planned...

Horus Heresy
When Horus turned to Chaos during the Horus heresy, Alpharius really had only met one brother who had not treated him like shit, and that was Horus - so it comes as no surprise that Alpharius followed Horus' descent into Chaos... Actually this is another lie. The real reason Alpharius joined the Warmaster was because a Cabal of Xenos showed him that if Horus won, then Chaos would be defeated. Hence the Alpha legion are all a bunch of <s>closet loyalists</s> Malal worshipers, seriously they are chaos worshipers trying to kill chaos. (So... double traitors? but unlike double heresy it's like a double negative?) Could just be that Alpharius preferred the future that ensured humanity's continued existence rather than the one that had humanity go extinct at the hands of a victorious Horus; pro-humanity.

Alpharius also engages in a friendly bit of legion purging in the book The Seventh Serpent. He masquerades as Shadrak Meduson of the Iron Hands and sways Captain Cadmus Tyro and the ship Sisypheum starring Sabik Wayland and Nykona Sharrowkyn to destroy the loyalist Alpha Legion strike-cruiser Sigma led by Legate Chaitan during ship-refueling operations under the pretense of striking at Alpharius. The promethium fuel was sabotaged and the entire ship becomes an enormous bomb. Said bomb exploding on the sub-orbital refueling depot Lerna Two-Twelve while Iron Hands are still on it, killing more loyalists among the Iron Hands too. What a dick.

Engages in more mind-fuckery during the ensuing fight with Nykona and spares his life when he says that Magnus asked him to, seeding doubt in the Iron Hands. Just as planned.
BUT THERE WAS MORE
As it turns out, Alpharius' greatest secret was not his homeworld - it was that he had an identical twin, named Omegon. It is not believed that the Emperor intended this, nor was he even aware of it. Alpharius and Omegon are, in fact, both the Primarch of the Alpha Legion, although 'Alpharius' is the public face and appears as the more senior of the two. Both look alike, however, and the two switch their roles often. Alpha Legion marines have described this well-kept secret as the pair sharing one soul between two bodies, and the other Primarchs, unaware of the Alpha Legion Primarch's true nature, simply believed they WERE one person, named, appropriately enough, Alpharius Omegon. The only true way to tell the difference between the two was their armor (and their eyes, THE EYES!) - Omegon, being a stealth specialist, usually wore black-toned armor intended for night operations, whereas Alpharius preferred the teal-colored pattern of the standard Alpha Legionnaires. In addition to this, it's rumoured that Alpharius, or Omegon, or both of them, or someone, maybe... My head hurts!

Okay! Back on track. It's rumoured that someone had several of the Alpha Legion Marines surgically altered to look exactly like them so they could stand in as extra body doubles if/when it was needed. This was easier for the Alphas than it would've been for any other Legion, because some alpha legionnaires were unusually freakishly tall, and their primarchs looked normal, rather than being giants with one eye, wings, and/or metal hands. It also helped that digesting a small portion of their primarch's blood made those body-doubles powerful enough to be mistaken as true Primarchs not only by appearance but also by their combat prowess for quite a long time (up to a several hours), although it isn't known it this were a common ability amongst Alpha Legionnaires, or was it artificially engineered only for the body-doubles.

It's unknown if Guilliman killed Alpharius, Omegon, or simply some dipshit Alpha Legion Marine who decided to pull a Spartacus and pose as them. Or both. OR NEITHER. So you can see where the memes come from. Who the hell did Guilliman kill?

Yet another theory is that neither Alpharius nor Omegon was killed. It was Guilliman who was defeated and replaced by either Alpharius or Omegon so they could destroy the Ultramarines from the inside out. It was a plan as delicious as just as planned can potentially be... until Fulgrim stabbed him in the windpipe and made him bleed to near-death. Oh well.

Maybe the whole war on Eskrador was a big chunk of disinformation trolling made by Alpha Legion agents to fake their primarch's death. Or they want the Inquisition to think so. After all the only source of information about said war was Inquisitor Kravin's report - who mysteriously disappeared shortly after and may or may not be an Alpha Legion agent undercover. That being said: The Ultramarines have no records about the Eskrador war, but again those records may or may not be lost or may or may not be destroyed due to some Alpha Legion black ops... or just lost due to shitty imperial record keeping, as it would not be the first time that's happens.

And to keep up the mystery, when Gregor Eisenhorn needed someone to keep Alizabeth Bequin's clone Alizabeth 'Beta' Bequin safe he got someone whose only response was "I am Alpharius" and can make an Emperor's Children Space Marine run away just by showing his face.

... Goddamnit this is confusing.

It gets worse. A short story printed in The Primarchs Horus Heresy book shows that by drinking the Primarch's blood an Alpha Legion Marine took on the genetic coding of the primarchs, fooling even the apothecary on the mission. Also at the end Alpharius and Omegon are speaking about the necessities of war as the mission before was a one way trip including the death of a rogue psyker who became close to Omegon. Omegon seemed to think the sacrifice was not necessary whilst Alpharius believed it was, hinting that the brothers were not in agreement on all things. As their plan in Legion relied on killing off humanity to kill off chaos, Omegon is probably looking for another option. This may or may not mean the Alpha Legion has some connection to The Purge, but as with all other things on this page nobody fucking knows.

It is notable that in Deliverance Lost, the Alpha Legion betrayed even the Cabal. And the third Forge World Horus Heresy book includes a large story which ended with Alpharius (or was it?) screwing over Horus by not garrisoning an area after the Alpha Legion conquered it. At this point, combined with how even Alpharius and Omegon don't seem to agree, it's questionable if the Alpha Legion is even unified in its purpose. They wouldn't be the only ones divided over betraying the Imperium.

Death
In Praetorians of Dorn, it was revealed that the blood memory method thing that Sheed Ranko used to "become" Omegon wasn't the only way for a Primarch to operate outside of their bodies. The legion possessed psykers with the ability to transfer the consciousness of a primarch into a legionary.

However, all speculation above may now be moot. In the same book, Alpharius himself (apparently not a proxy) led an attack on the Sol System, almost killing Dorn in the process. Due to intervention by one of the Fists' huscarls, he failed and Dorn ripped him apart with his big-ass chainsword. As in, Alpharius is actually DEAD. Omegon, half the galaxy away, sensed it and decided to adopt Alpharius's identity permanently.

(Actually, Alpharius has his psyche reconstructed to resemble that of the legion Harrowmaster, Silonius. He does this to mask his presence on Terra from the Emperor, Malcador and co. Alpharius actually physically goes into the fight. He slowly unlocks his mental blocks as the Legion's plan reaches its climax. Then he ambushes (and subsequently tries to reason with) Dorn, who ignores everything and proceeds to shred Alpharius' body. YEAH. He dead.)

This is unlikely with the kinds of shit the Alpha Legion pull all the time, but we will let the Imperial Fister who wrote the last paragraph keep seeing the world in black and white.... or should I say yellow and teal?

Nope, OG is right. Alpharius is roadkill. That's the cool thing about this book: It shows us that the Alpha Legion is smart as fuck but ain't invincible.

Whilst Alpharius is super dead from the whole Pluto thing, there is yet another account from of Alpharius dying that is less known. In the short story Hunter's Moon a Space Wolf named Torbjorn (insert shitty Overwatch meme here) details how he killed Alpharius by arriving on his ship peacefully and then shooting him in the head. Okay it wasn't that simple. He arrived on the ship for some diplomacy stuff and to verify if the Alpha Legion were super tra7itor heretics or not. Basically the Space Wolves squad was there to guard Alpharius in case he DID go traitor so they could murder the fuck out of him the moment they turned. Alpharius saw right through that shit (because duh), but he was still playing along. Then Alpharius asked them to kneel. Unfortunately for all parties involved, Space Wolves are very stubborn regarding such things. Then Alpharius threw a stupid babby hissy fit about them and their "rightful" burning of Prospero (as Torbjorn is the speaker we know that he isn't the most reliable source as the entire story rings of Space Wolf propaganda, but we do know that the events do seem to have happened as he said, but most likely the "ignoble and rash" Alpharius was probably just pointing out just how fucking stupid destroying an entire loyal legion and then being self righteous about it is. Anyway, Alpha Legion fan-wankery aside the two groups broke into battle. Alpharius then killed some Space Wolves in CQC and then got shot in the face dead by Torbjorn. Torbjorn then jacked an Alpha Legion ship and fled to the planet they were orbiting, Pelago. He then told the story to some fishermen and noted he would likely either be found by Alpha Legion or Space Wolf forces very soon since he put out a distress call. A few hours of sailing later a Space Wolf Stormbird appeared from the sky, to Torbjorn's brief delight, opened the back door revealing Alpharius to Torbjorn's confusion as he was notably not dead and had his skull perfectly intact and unblemished and then the Alpha Legion murdered Torbjorn and two of the three sailors, leaving one alive. This was likely to seed fear of the Alpha Legion into Pelago because Alpha Legion loves mind games.

Now we have three stories of Alpharius' death. On Pluto, where he probably did bite the dust. On Pelago where he almost certainly didn’t and on Eskrador, where it might have been Omegon who was killed but probably not.

While not a monster of close combat like other primarchs, Alpharius gives candy to his army while fucking with the opponent's like no one but him can (That being said, even the worst of combat primarchs will whomp just about anything else). Sire of the Alpha Legion grants all Alpha Legion units Preferred Enemy (Everything) and gives Alpharius Preferred Enemy (Everything), Counter attack, Move through Cover, Scout, and Crusader- but not right away. You see, after both sides deploy he can opt out of deploying normally or via deep striking and choose to hide in any Alpha Legion Infantry unit which is part of the Primary Detachment, disguised as a rank-and-file model, but can reveal himself starting at turn 2 (and does so automatically at turn 5) replacing a model and gaining all of the above buffs. If the unit he's hiding in is "falling back" when he reveals himself, it auto-rallies, and if it's destroyed while he's still hiding (or if it is in a Transport and there is no space for him), he just goes into reserves (you must write which unit is hiding Alpharius...but if you're a true Alpha legionnaire you'd have 6 different notes, none of them with your actual handwriting style). Be careful though: remember that he is Bulky and that he can only be revealed at the beginning of your own turn, so if he is hiding in a transport at full capacity he could be impossible to place (for example in a ten man Breacher squad inside a Rhino) unless you already disembarked the Squad on the previous turn, so plan accordingly. He can also Seize the Initiative on a 4+, give units arriving via Outflank a +D3 movement bonus and, best of all, if an enemy unit is successfully brought in from reserves and your army has an identical version of that same type also in reserve, roll a D6: on a 4+, the opponent brings in your unit instead. Combine him with his Legion RoW to almost guarantee going first and almost completely negate your enemy's reserves. On defense,The Pythian Scales gives him 2+ armour save and 4+ invulnerable save and also ignores the effects of Poison and Fleshbane. Not bad. His weapon, The Pale Spear doesn't boost his Strength, but it does have AP1, Armourbane, and Instant Death along with Two-Handed (as an interesting note, this actually makes him one of the best Primarchs for murdering monsters: he is one of the few Primarchs access to Instant Death without a proc from a dice roll. He could reasonably out a trio of Carnifex in a single round of CQC, or more topically, a squad of Taghmatta). He also has the following equipment: Venom Spheres, Master-Crafted Plasma Blaster, Cognis Signum, Nuncio Vox and Camelioline, making him quite the force multiplier and perfectly capable to adapt to a variety of circumstances, like he should be.

All in all Alpharius is one of the if not flat out the single best force multiplier in Warhammer 30k, as his value for money only increases the larger battles get. In 3000pts games, stubborn and other once per game abilities are useful. At 10000pts they are less so. Preferred enemy (Everything) is universally useful and becomes more useful the larger the armies become (seriously, you'd happily pay 415 points to give your apocalypse army preferred enemy anyway, never mind that you're also getting a Primarch as well).

Primarch fighting, while fun to see, isn't a very competitive thing to do as it'll usually tie up both Primarchs for the entire game without either of them dying. With that in mind this section is about how Alpharius fares against other Primarchs Mathhammer wise. Please note that all the various abilities are taken into accounts when possible and the match-ups assume the Primarchs are the only ones involved in the fighting, so various abilities like Angron's "The Butcher's Nails" and Rampage do not provide any bonuses. In essence, the fights are supposed to happen in a "Vacuum" for simplicity, but notes are added to make things clearer in particular instances. Also all of the Primarch use their most powerful weapons (because why have a contest if you don't do your best?).
**Now this was a fight! Alpharius finally wins against the weakest of the Primarchs! Let's not say to him he wasn't using his Psychic Powers...

* Alpharius VS Perturabo
**Alpharius hits 2.92 times and wounds 1.701 times, 0.851 wounds after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.517 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Alpharius still loses, but not by much this time.

* Alpharius VS Corvus Corax
**Corvus hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3 times (Scourge)/2.25 times (Shadow-walk), 1.5 wounds (Scourge)/1.125 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.167/0.792 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Alpharius hits 2.92/1.944 times and wounds 1.701/1.134 times, 1.134/0.756 wounds after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.801/0.423 wounds at the start of the next turn.

* Alpharius VS Roboute Guilliman
**Guilliman Round 1: hits 2.5 times, wounds 2.222 times, 1.111 times after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.778 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Guilliman Round 2 and thereafter: hits 3.333 times, wounds 2.963 times, 1.482 times after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.148 wounds at the start of the next turn.
***Alpharius hits 2.92 times and wounds 1.701 times (Remember he got Preferred Enemy), 0.851 wounds after saves and 0.425 after Armor of Reason. And IWND will take that down to 0.092 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Guilliman wins really easily, as the damage Alpharius does is almost irrelevant, thus making the claim that he personally killed the lord of the Alpha Legion actually believable...But then again, every Primarch could have actually killed him!

* Alpharius VS Leman Russ
**Russ hits 4 times, wounds 3 times, 1.5 time after saves, plus 0.583 wounds from Sever Life for a whole 2.083 wounds and IWND will take that down to 1.75 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Alpharius round 1: hits 1.944 times, wounds 1.134 times, 0.567 times after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.231.
**Alpharius Round 2 and thereafter: hits 0.972 times, wounds 0.567 times, 0.283 times after saves and IWND will take that down to -0.049 wounds.
**Alpharius is utterly destroyed.

* TLDR version: Alpharius is not really in same league as the others in terms of raw balls out combat power. Oh he's still crazy deadly against most things but against other Primarchs, even weakened by shooting, he doesn't really compete. Which makes sense as he was the physically smallest and preferred to win by cunning. As a result he functions more as a strategic asset/force multiplier. His other rules make him unlikely to be fighting unless it's on his terms, appearing from the shadows to eat a terminator squad before you can drop Angron on him (he's especially and hilariously deadly against expensive multi-wound terminators who can't even hide behind feel no pain). Guess he was <s>the last son for a reason</s> kinda busy stealing your reserves, buffing his army and sneaking into the perfect position to win the war in a single strike to focus as much on fighting face to face. If you are a true son of Alpharius then you'll use his weakness to your advantage, keeping your enemy guessing where he'll appear and letting an opposing Primarch chase him around salivating at the idea of killing a brother so much that they forget that half their army hasn't shown up and the few units they roll for are actually Alpha Legionnaires in disguise. He's a subtle leader of a subtle legion. Used wisely his abilities can swing any battle but if you try to use him just as a giant beatstick then you'll waste of lot of points and get the invisible brother killed. At least if that happens you can rest assured that your legion will continue to fight and win, unlike a certain armless failure. Also, since Alpharius may be considered 'only half a primarch', these fights put him at an unfair disadvantage, obviously. A true son of Alpharius would field him and Omegon and have them fight enemy primarchs together in order to win.
</div></div>
The very first fucking vampire in a setting where vampires are still cool, which is a product of her own creation rather than a Biblical curse or demonic possession. She's something of a Cleopatra expy who's been in a lot of positions of leadership (pun not intended), then found she preferred to run things behind the scenes.

The Legend
During the war against Nagash, there was a young princess of Lahmia in the Egypt analogue of the Warhammer setting, Nehekhara, named Neferatem (Neferata was the name she went by outside of Nehekhara, although later writers forgot about it and had her always called Neferata). While her cousin wore pants, rode horses, shot arrows, and prayed to the snake god, Neferata spent her time doing all of jack shit while her father lead the forces of <strike>good</strike> Order against Nagash. After her pappy died, she was put in charge of the kingdom. Her brother took command of the forces of Nehekhara and made a deal with Arkhan the Black to become necromancer bros by looting Nagash's house. Her brother Lamashizzar won the backstabbing competition and took Nagash's books home with a crippled and (re)dying Arkhan to give cliffnotes along the way. Since Neferata was already a fucking level 2 Wizard, he threw the books at her and told her to get to work as he took over the job of ordering cooks to suck face with stablehands.

Now it's well known that in order to be based on Egypt, you have to be obsessed with immortality. But she took that to new levels. Neferata found her brother's secret tutor and chatted with him. She wanted Arkhan to teach her as well, and used her charm to try and persuade him. To everyone's surprise, including her own, Neferata sympathized with the imprisoned lich and formed a genuine rapport with him that grew into something more. Instead of taking notes and translating shit for Lahmia to gain an army of Level 1 Mages she started experimenting, and actually managed to improve on Nagash's techniques. She swapped Nagash's ability to become a self-sufficient lich for eternal youth powered with fresh blood, although in a different version of the story Arkhan helped a great deal more as Sphinx venom is a key ingredient which caused the drinker to fall into a coma necessitating an assistant to finish the ritual.

After the people around her used the rare skill of common sense and realized she wasn't aging and was going through more servants than most, she realized she'd need some meatshields that weren't mooks. She picked the captain of the guard and all around badass Abhorash, her high priest W'soran, her younger brother Ushoran, Maatmeses, Naamia, Prince Xian Ha Feng, Harakhte, Zhuras, Ankhat, Neferata's husband Vashanesh, and one other. Vlad von Carstein hints in his own novels that Vashanesh is the father of his Bloodline but all other Bloodlines said such a person never existed. Later it turned out they were full of it, as Vlad was revealed to be Vashanesh himself. (There is a canon conflict here, since the novels set in and shortly after this period never mention him.) Neferata also selected another seven. Each of them was given some of Nef's home brew, and she filled them in on their new strengths and one minor recurring habit.
She also sent some vials of the Elixir to Cathay for unknown reasons.

Everyone (except Abhorash, who was a NOFUNALLOWED kinda guy) got ultra into vampirism and swapped out the Nehekharan religion for worshiping Nagash. Neferata kept studying Nagash's books and improving her magic until she figured out how to make more (albeit weaker) vampires through a ritual rather than a potion, which saved time and kept the youngbloods in their place. She became a cougar and stuck to drinking blood from shotas like wine. The vampires mutated over time and became fucking godlike, and when they get some adrenaline (their own anyway) in them they underwent quick transformations into a more feral state with sabertooth fangs and ultra sharp fingernails and such (basically the opposite of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark).

The other Nehekharan kingdoms began to get suspicious, particularly good ol' cousin Khalida (who had became a Ranger/Paladin dedicated to the asp goddess (guess where this story is going. Just guess)). To preemptively silence her, Neferata accused HER of being a vampire (note that this was after Malekith had used a similar strategy, although arguably Neferata's way was a bit more successful since it didn't involve trying to use a god of justice and rulership to prove your lie is the truth). Khalida called her out on the fact that a grave accusation of treason and heresy with no proof against an equal from an entirely different nation meant all of jack and shit, and challenged Neferata to a duel to the death for HONOR. Even though Khalida was a mere mortal badass fighting a fucking VAMPIRE DEMIGODDESS, Khalida put Neferata into single digit HP before she got to -1 herself. Neferata was forced to drink from Khalida on the spot...in front of the assembled nobles of Khemri and Lahmia. While restoring her hit points, Nef tried to turn Khalida into a vampire. Faced with the incestuous advances of her cousin (oh, and the minor issue of whatever unknown dark magic shit the sabertoothed mutant was doing), called out for the snake goddess to save her soul from damnation. Asaph (the aforementioned snake goddess) sent poison through Khalida's veins, purging the vampire heresy though Khalida still died of blood loss and the minor issue of a knife in the stomach.

Later the Queen of Rasetra came to Neferata asking help with her difficult pregnancy. Knowing that if male the child would be the next king of Khemri Neferata gave the woman an infusion containing her blood and when the boy was born, claimed him as her own saying he would stay in Lahmia until he came of age and took his throne. This child was called Alcadizaar. Neferata grew to believe that Alcadizaar would become her partner and started practicing wife husbandry on him, training him in every aspect of war and statehood (while also making sure he didn't get with any other woman). However when he finally discovered the truth of Neferata's undead nature, he rejected her and fled into the wild, eventually being welcomed into a nomadic desert tribe.

Neferata continued consolidating her powerbase until Alcadizaar's tribe killed one of her vampire minions and presented his head as proof to the other kings. After this the Nehekharans realized how dangerously close things were to becoming Twilight, so they gathered their forces into a vast army and laid siege to Lahmia. Some Lahmian civilians rebelled against the vampire nobility, others gathered to Abhorash and fought against the foreigners and race traitors. Led by the newly returned and crowned Alcadizaar of Khemri the Priest Kings united and destroyed Lahmia, the entire city being reduced to rubble and most of it's vampiric aristocracy destroyed. Neferata barely escaped with her life. The city fell, despite major losses on the side of <strike>good</strike> Order.

Exile
Of Neferata's Eleven, only seven survived. Abhorash and Neferata separately took their minions and headed north, both finding passes through the supposedly impassible mountains and reaching the Badlands, greenskin-infested no man's land. Due to this she avoided the final war between Nagash and Alcadizaar that saw the rest of Nehekhara join Lahmia in becoming a lifeless ruin. She did however experience it's consequences when the newly risen Tomb Kings began to hunt down vampires. In particular her cousin Khalida, returned from the dead and filled with rage, chased her across the world.

In the absence of their leaders the vampires were left in a panic. They went their own ways along the same route Nef and Ab had taken, founding different bloodlines. When Nagash cursed the vampires with weaknesses to the sun, running water (like all old people), garlic, and other random things. Neferata and her minions caught the curse too despite not being there (although there's also the suggestion this was Sigmar's doing).

Then a fuckton of time passed while Neferata traveled the world. During that time she became a feminist and a misandrist, espousing the belief that men are blood farms without worthwhile thoughts or emotions unless they kowtow to women (being effeminate, watching Sex and the City, be unthinking Sugar Daddies, that sort of thing). Eventually Neferata found herself compelled to come to the capital of the Strigoi empire, Mourkain. Here she found a kingdom that was a pale reflection of her long lost Lahmia, ruled once again by a vampiric aristocracy. It's king was her former Lord of Masks Ushoran and his vizier W'soran, who together she blamed for the destruction of her home. She had been drawn by the Crown of Nagash which was buried at the heart of the capital as had most of the others of her kind.

Queen of Mysteries
A group of Dorfs investigating the douchebaggery of the other vampire bloodlines eventually uncovered her <strike>lesbian love den</strike> SERIOUS GROUP OF VAMPIRE LADIES DOING NOTHING WRONG. In response she had her minions slaughter the Dawi and turn them into zombies before gathering an invasion force and making their Dwarf Fortress her new <strike>love-den</strike> MANLY BASTION OF BADASSERY. The undead Dwarfs rebuilt the mines, crafted with Granite and menacing with spikes of Onyx, into an Egyptian-style palace.

Nowadays the zombies are soaked in perfume and drum while skeletons do the skeleton dance (2spooky!) to entertain her court. Eventually Ghouls showed up to serve her, which she spent several generations trying to exterminate before being confined to the sewers when she realized they would be great for garbage disposal. She bathes in blood (because nobody has ever made vampires do that before!) of young men, then heads off to the war room an organizes her femvamps and shotavamps (all vouched for by femvamps as their subordinates) to spy on the civilizations of the world and manipulate them into getting into wars with each other (Skaven also do this, but more capably), or rooting out rival bloodlines and wiping them out (the VonCarsteins also do this, but less capably).

Queen Neferata had one goal: make the <s>women</s> worthy mortals of the world into Lahmian vampires and the <s>men</s> unworthy mortals cattle or pampered pets. Meanwhile, her cousin Khalida (who's such a badass not even Settra wants to fuck with her) was a Tomb <strike>King</strike> Queen and wanted to purge the world of vampires and their homoerotic heresy, with Neferata at the top of her list.

Neferata's cat is her Cathayan concubine shape shifter Naamia who is in love with her (at least in the novel Neferata by Josh Reynolds, in all other sources the cat is simply a familiar named Bastet).

End times
Neferata was recruited to rejoin Arkhan the Black (who was still in love with her after thousands of years) and Mannfred von Carstein in their plans to resurrect Nagash. Nef followed the plan, sending one of her minions (who may be fan favourite the Vampire Genevieve) to Balthazar Gelt to manipulate him into building an anti-Chaos wall protecting the humans of the Old World (in theory so Nagash could have them all to himself). Realizing that Nagash's return meant either her servitude or destruction, Neferata sent no further aid at first. However, Neferata grew concerned concerned that if she didn't have something to offer Nagash might destroy her out of spite (because her spies were trapped in Sylvania and Arkhan never called, Neferata was antsy from lack of knowledge).

After daemons attacked her fortress Neferata decided to try and get shit done, massing the forces of the Silver Pinnacle to get a re-birthday present for Nagash; the magic power of the Dwarf gods themselves (which Neferata had accidentally discovered while backpacking across the world). Fighting her way through various greenskin tribes at Skull Chasm, she led her army to the Lost Pass of the dwarfs, a long lost treasure trove of the ancestor gods. There at the Battle of Valaya's Gate her army, supported by the Wight King Krell (who had been sent by Arkhan as a precaution), defeated the throng of Karak Azul leading to the deaths of both the venerable runelord Thorek Ironbrow and the mighty King Kazador. Having secured a source of power for the returned but weakened Nagash she was inducted into the ranks of his Mortarchs, becoming the Mortarch of Blood.

Once Nagash fed on Valaya's magic, he used the power to shroud Nehekhara in darkness so the vampires wouldn't burn in the sun (no such thing as sunblock in the Warhammer world). The assembled Mortarchs then waged war on the Tomb Kings. When Nagash led his forces south into Nehekhara Neferata was given permission to lead a force to the ruins of her long lost Lahmia. There she was once more met by Khalida and the army of Lybaras. As the two armies clashed the two undead queens dueled in the Temple of Blood in the heart of the city itself. Once more Neferata was forced to flee before her vengeful cousin. Though she failed to secure the city Neferata's expedition had performed all Nagash required of it which was to lure troops away from his main target- Khemri and his Black Pyramid there. In the end defeated the Nehekharans, bringing their skulls under Nagash's boot. In a spectacular twist of irony, Neferata and Khalida were charged to work together. As a result, they basically dropped out of End Times until the very end when Mannfred managed to completely fuck up the last chance at stopping Chaos and the world was slowly drawn into the Warp as a third Warpgate was activated in the Empire despite every non-Chaos group from Orcs to Wood Elves all working together (yeah, ET was a complete fucking mess).

Neferata and Arkhan were present at the end of the final battle, with the latter promising to fight to the last to give the former a chance to outrun the encroaching wall of solid Daemonic blackness despite her Abyssal being injured. After a parting kiss with Arkhan (who she still had some feelings for) Neferata only just made it back to the fortress in the Moot that she and Khalida had established offscreen. The Halflings and remaining humans of the Empire fled there for protection, and the undead under Khalida's command allowed them in. Neferata arrived and immediately shouted to make preparations to repel Chaos, before Khalida told her there was no point; Chaos won. Neferata instead convinced her to fight together, as Nehekharan Queens, and their assembled forces readied their weapons as the Warp overtook them.

Age of Sigmar
...then Age of Sigmar happened. Nagash is an immortal god of the afterlife and gets all souls Chaos doesn't, barring the Stormcast Eternals. Since Games Workhop undid their complete reboot with identical factions reappearing, Vampires came back too. Neferata was shown alongside the other Mortarchs meaning that the entire End Times story meant jack. But since Khalida hasn't been shown and the Tomb Kings were revealed to have been Squatted, Nef at least outlived her.

Neferata got her own part of the realm of death and "creatively" named it Nulahmia. However it came under attack from an army of mortal followers of Chaos... of Slaanesh, of all the Chaos forces... because apparently some Chaos Lord wants her for himself, not caring that she's undead. Quite a thing to sneak past the kiddies, Geedubs! (In the novel Lords of Death, the same lord kills a beastman who tried to stop him raping it).

Lahmians
The bloodline of Neferata, most of them are female and all of them are found in positions of power within society, although most prefer aristocracy or the mercantile class. While the wandering Necromancer is a Necrarch, the homeless beggar or bandit is a Strigoi, the noble knights and warriors of the world <strike>being murderhobos</strike> getting into fights and doing awesome shit are Blood Dragons, and while the Von Carsteins are nouveau riche pricks in crumbling manors surrounded by stinking corpses and emaciated thralls, Lahmians are a cut above. They've got style. Skilled middle class priests and merchants, aristocrats of fantastic breeding living in the city and attending every party, hookers, criminal bosses, and artists.

Lahmians prefer the undead that doesn't stink, like skeletons. While many are skilled swordswomen, they lean more on the Elf side of things with higher skill and speed rather than strength or toughness (of course being vampires they have those as well, and Lahmians by nature come from different backgrounds and have diverse sets of skills). Lahmians are also one of the two most magical Bloodlines, although rather than the mad science of the Necrarchs they lean towards the diverse and refined knowledge that only those who see every shipping charter before a vessel even sets sail can get. Most of all, Lahmians rely on guile and charisma (which in Warhammer Fantasy terms means Leadership and abilities that manipulate that of others) to get the job done.

While all beings in Warhammer Fantasy are prone to backstabbing (some more than others), Lahmians are particularly hierarchical in a manner resembling the Camarilla from VtM. No major action may be performed without the blessing of a higher up, keeping silent and maintaining secrecy is of utmost importance, and everyone is vying to be the <strike>pussy in Neferata's lap</strike> favored servant of the Queen while also fearing what would happen if one so much as annoys her, or shows weakness to a rival. Lower rank Lahmians tend to be more resentful of the higher ranked ones, as most of the difficult work in the lower classes is done by them.
In regards to other Bloodlines, Neferata views herself as the supreme ruler of the Undead (until she swears loyalty to Nagash, who serves more as the divine power behind her rule in her mind). As a result she will generally work to better their place in the world and control over all other factions unless she feels threatened or insulted, which given her typically Nehekharan arrogance and demand for protocol on par with Settra is quite often, leading her to bring complete ruin on her rivals both real and imagined without a second thought. Those who do endear themselves to her find themselves pampered and protected with their skills honed and many powers granted (although on rare occasion they are sacrificed for the greater good), and as Naamia describes it her minions love her for it all.

Lore is vague on which nations exactly the Lahmians have infiltrated. The Empire is entirely within their domain of control, and they spend a great deal of time keeping the Witch Hunters off their backs while diverting Sigmar's holy zealots towards the other Bloodlines and Chaos infestations. Lahmians have agents in Bretonnia, although how much belonged to them is unknown. The Warhammer Silk Road to Cathay, and an unknown amount of Cathay itself, is also completely within Lahmian control and they have agents in the Border Princes and other human kingdoms. Old lore hinted the Lahmians also had agents among the Elves and that she was aware of the goings-on in Ulthuan and Naggaroth. Lahmians will work in the interest of the societies they infiltrate by suppressing riots and purging the corrupt (or at least the corrupt and unpredictable/unmanipulatable) via "accidents", long-planned falls from grace, or even just flat-out disappearances and have helped secretly defend the populace from the predations of other Vampires and of Chaos plots and invasions.

One of Neferata's favorite tricks is to turn a woman into a cat, get a merchant or a nobleman to take her in, then have her turn back into a woman and fuck his brains out like it's an erotic manga so he'll establish her as his wife and thus put one more Lahmian spy in the world. As a result of Neferata's manipulations most of the nun organizations are now Lahmian vampires. The poets and playwrights of the world are often Lahmian vampires. Brothel owners are often Lahmian vampires. Upper class escorts are often Lahmian vampires. Noblewoman are often Lahmian vampires. That gay guy who does your wife's hair is a Lahmian vampire. Your wife is a Lahmian vampire. As long as you do what they say, everything will be alright. We promise.

Nagadron The Adevore
The Dread Abyssal given to Neferata by Nagash in End Times. In the times of the Nehekharan gods, Nagadron resided with the other Dread Abyssals in the afterlife of men. Nagadron's job was to punish the glutenous, ambushing selfish souls and chewing on them for all eternity. In Neferata's service, Nagadron now consumes the souls he eats, vomiting them up in smaller and smaller chunks as he gorges himself on flesh and spirit alike and eating them again (so yeah, Neferata's giant undead dragon demon is predictably a giant cat on the inside).

According to the team that produced the model, the hooded eyes are supposed to resemble a predatory snek.

Nagadron was last seen in End Times re-dying from mortal wounds with its last act being carrying Neferata and the unconscious Isabella back to the fortress of Nef and Khalida, but was resurrected alongside its (no gender is given, though since it is a supernatural, partially divine creation it may not have or doesn't need a gender) master in Age of Sigmar.

On the Tabletop
Old Editions
Queen Neferata used to have a model in the game, but she suffered from Alarielle the Everqueen syndrome and had a badass model you wanted to use for fluff reasons, but it was pretty crap on the field and thus was unlikely to ever be used. So GW removed it, leaving the von Carsteins as the only models in Vampire Counts until the latter part of 8th edition. The original model came with a cat, referencing the aforementioned story about felinid vampires.

The End Times
With the addition of Nagash's campaign, Neferata makes a triumphant return to the field as a mounted model with an on-foot option (although GW makes her share a kit with Mannfred von Carstein and Arkhan the Black, the thrill of her return far outshines the insult).

Since bloodlines are gone, Lahmians are represented by gearing out your Lord and Hero vampires with Beguile and similar abilities as well as ample spellcasting. Use skeletons, ghosts, and similar minions that can be handwaved as unwanted hauntings or the bones of ancestors when the Witch Hunters come calling. Feel free to use proxies of living models from any faction you want as servants to a mortal lover/manipulated army but statted as zombies, ghouls, skeletons, or whatever. Finally, Coven Thrones. The only two bloodlines that should be using Coven Thrones are von Carsteins and Lahmians, and you better not let those lower class fuckers put more on the tabletop then you or Neferata will want to have a private chat with you...

Lahmian armies will do very well against low LD armies, and poorly against armies like High Elves with 9's across the board in Leadership.

As for the Queen of Mysteries herself, her latest incarnation hits hard and can debuff the enemy ten ways from town. She has eight Strength 5 attacks that Always Strike First at Inititative 9. Eight Strength 5 attacks are rough but always striking first takes it to another level, then you have Thunderstomp. With a combined profile with her mount, that's D6 Strength 5 hits at Initiative 9 since ASF and ASL cancel each other out. As for the Debuffs, Neferata can debuff to a level that even her boss can't. Her Dagger of Jetl minuses 1- to the Strength, Initiative and Attack of a model that suffers an unsaved wound for the rest of the game. There's also Twilight Allure making all shooting and close combat attacks are at -1 to hit, so even a Chaos Lord will be hitting her on 5's. She also has a fun little trick of being able to, once per game, turn a character she slays in a challenge into a Vampire. If they get to keep all their gear (come on FAQ!) imagine turning Korhil or, even better, Kurt Helborg, into a Vampire.

Age Of Sigmar
The 9th Age
In The 9th Age there are no named characters, so instead all models have to be emulated out of generic upgrades.

End Times Neferata is fielded as a Vampire Count of the Lahmian Bloodline riding a Monstrous Revenant upgraded to the Great Monstrous Revenant with Mask Of Innocence, and as a Level 3 Wizard. Add in other abilities as desired, although Random Attacks for the not-Dread Abyssal and weapons that boost her own Attack value are popular.
You cannot see the future with tears in your eyes.

Not to be confused with the awesome Neo-medieval band of the same name.

Corvus Corax, the Common Raven, also known as the Northern Raven, is a large, all-black passerine bird and is the Primarch of the Raven Guard. Corax was big on fast assaults (and screamo music; it's a surprise his chapter motto isn't Brand New lyrics) and is notorious both for being the head of one of the hardest-hit legions during the Horus Heresy and for the steps Corax took to try to help the Imperium, as well as the self-imposed exile he put himself to in an attempt to atone for what he had caused. Whilst /tg/ often jokes that he's emo, he's also a complete badass, like a lot of the Primarchs, and unlike this fucker actually got shit done. He got a suit of power armour named after him, unlike others who could have.

He also had some kind of psychic-invisibility. He was reportedly able to walk among people and pass completely unnoticed. It doesn't work on machines or any other kind of mechanical device, due it not being actual invisibility. From how it sounds, it appears that Corax erased himself from people's minds. So Corax himself is still fully visible in reality (explaining why machines can still see him), but he's manipulating other people's minds to erase his presence from their perception, in the same way how ECM is able to fool radars by masking a plane's radar signature. However, he hid this ability even from his own Legion, being quite aware about the Imperium's attitude towards psykers.

The Liberator
Like all the Primarchs, Corax was scattered by Chaos to prevent the Emprah from destroying their plans. Corax wound up on Lycaeus, a dry, dusty moon with no atmosphere, orbiting the planet Kiavahr. At this time the planet was a technologically advanced Forge World, providing Kiavahr's gigantic manufactorums with minerals extracted from Lycaeus by slave labor.

The slaves of Lycaeus were mostly regular people - inhabitants of the moon, as well as criminals, political opponents of the wealthy aristocracy on Kiavahr, and Kiavahran workers who had done crimes such as failing to meet quotas or taking one too many bathroom breaks - in essence, Lycaeus was an unlimited source of free, exploitable manpower, which they kept in line with hired guns and openly executing anyone who tried to escape.

When the people of Lycaeus found Corax as an infant, they were mystified - no one could identify where he had come from and yet all could tell there was something unearthly - and extremely important - about the child. They named him Corax - "The Deliverer," in their language - and in spite of the risks and drain on resources, they took him in and kept him safe from their masters. Believing that Corax was their salvation from the Kiavahrans' tyranny, they began training him in the various skills he would need both as a leader and as a warrior: urban warfare, close combat, and demolitions work as well as political and philosophical training and analysis - ultimately Corax's abnormally-fast maturation (being a Primarch and all) comforted the slaves and united them in believing that Corax was the savior they had waited for.

Finally the day came when Corax was old enough to assume leadership and fulfill his destiny. He began his task by quietly organizing the workers into fight teams, promoting the best, smartest, and strongest to squad leaders. He began using the mines' fabrication tech to create weaponry, and then hid stockpiles of equipment in strategic positions throughout the mines. Corax took full advantage of the environment the Kiavahrans had set up, doing a bang-up impression of Anonymous and staging strikes, sit-ins, and riots in strategic spots, knowing that the Kiavahrans would deal with them harshly and feed the flames. Finally things reached their breaking point and Corax's forces launched their attack, taking key positions. With a combination of sabotage, strategic demolitions, and access to manufactured/stolen weaponry, Corax's forces killed the occupation force to the man and the moon of Lycaeus declared its independence.

When Kiavahr's rulers struck back with their armed forces, Corax was ready for them, having seized the equipment of the defense forces Kiavahr had left behind, and used the fabrication equipment to make demolitions-grade ordnance for the battles to come. At every battle, the Kiavahrans found battle-hardened warriors who were exceedingly skilled in urban and hit-and-run warfare - guerrillas that constantly ambushed and outmaneuvered their heavily-armed and armored forces, whittling down their ranks. With Kiavahr's forces already demoralized and destabilized, Corax pulled a MacGuyver-esque feat of legerdemain and sent a set of nuclear mining charges along the gravity tethers used for moving supplies and ore shipments to Kiavahr, blowing the Kiavahran manufactorums to hell and guaranteeing that the Kiavahrans couldn't produce a thing. The tech guilds who ran Kiavahr plunged into civil war, and with this, the conflict for control of Lycaeus was won.

In celebration, they re-named the planet Deliverance.

That very day, the Emprah arrived, apparently pleased with what Corax had accomplished, and after the two spent a day and a half together, he appointed Corax head of the newly-formed Raven Guard. Nothing is written regarding what Corax and the Emprah discussed that day except for Corax's sole condition of acceptance: that the Emprah help restore peace on Kiavahr. The Emprah agreed and the Adeptus Mechanicus took control of Kiavahr, rebuilding it and turning it into a glorious shard of the Imperium. Deliverance, meanwhile, was reinforced, and the citadel that had once housed the guards the Kiavahrans had deployed to maintain order was now, ironically, the headquarters of the Legion, dubbed "the Ravenspire." In contrast, many primarchs preferred to leave their home planets as Feral or Death Worlds. Some of the older rebels were left to help govern their planet. However, like many of his brothers Corvus allowed the younger ones to become Astartes, and they became the template for the revamped, more idealistic Raven Guard. They formed the core of the Legion's Mor Deythan elite.

Great Crusade
Little is spoken of Corax's role in the Great Crusade, though his contributions were many. A firm proponent of mobile strikes, tactical planning, and careful sabotage, the Raven Guard excelled at lightning fast strikes and covert operations, but several of the Primarchs were not quite so sold on it. Rogal Dorn disliked the combat style of the Raven Guard, though the two purportedly respected one another. Corax would have likely gotten along swimmingly with Alpharius and Konrad Curze, due to similar tactical doctrines, but the three Primarchs would be deployed to opposite sides of the Imperium during the great crusade, and would never really manage to hook up. Then again, it's implied pretty strongly that Corvus always hated what Kurze stood for, no matter how similar their tactics were. As of Massacre, it is shown that both the Raven Guard and Night Lords worked together during the Farinatus Extermination. But judging from Corvus's disdain for Konrad; it did not end well.

One person who Corax flat-out didn't get along with was Horus. The pair never saw eye-to-eye, with Corax being too humanitarian for Horus' tastes and Horus being too much of a cockmongler for Corax's liking. The two also disliked one another's tactical choices, and on at least one occasion, the two nearly came to blows after Horus ordered Corvus' Legion into a frontal assault on a heavily defended fortress. A little strange, given that the Iron Warriors and Space Wolves were present and much better-suited to these tactics, but it basically boiled down to Horus been a prick. The pre-Corvus legion served under Horus, and rolled more like the Night Lords than the emo ninjas we know and love today. Corvus, who saw some uncomfortable parallels with the slavers of his homeworld, promptly set about changing this, which undoubtedly pissed off Horus. Big brother decided to flex his Warmaster muscles, and when Corvus proposed a sensible alternative Perturabo called him a big pussy. The result was a pile of dead ravens, millions of civilian corpses (who hadn't rebelled willingly, but were under the control of alien parasites), and Leman Russ of all people breaking up a fight between Corvus and Peturabo. It's suspected that Perturabo played a major role in giving the Ravens the job of trialing the Mark VI "Beakie" armour, believing it to be inferior.

Being the bigger man, Corax said "fuck this" and left Horus' command, hooking up with some kindred spirits in the form of Ferrus Manus and Vulkan; the three hit it off pretty well and found their forces worked really, really well together. They then went and continued the Great Crusade without having to deal with Horus' acting like a shit. The one upside from the Gate 42 debacle was that the Terran marines in the Legion had been largely wiped out in the assault, taking the warrior lodges with them. The survivors became a Blackshield force known as Ashen Claws, after being sent off on their own towards the Ghoul Stars.

The Horus Heresy
When the Horus Heresy occurred, the Raven Guard, Iron Hands, and Salamanders were all on the front lines on Istvaan V. Each faction was well-suited to lead the vanguard of the attack, but they would wind up getting trapped and pinned down in the worst part of the fighting; when 4 more Legions turned traitor and joined Horus' rebellion, the three Legions already in the thick of it wound up in a bitter fight which cost them scores of men - as well as the Iron Hands' Primarch, Ferrus Manus. During the battle Corax engaged Lorgar in personal combat after shredding the Gal Vorbak, giving his sons a chance to run for the hills. Kind of like the huntsman scene in an ultra-gritty reboot of Bambi. Corvus easily overwhelmed Lorgar, demanding answers to why he betrayed them. Lorgar tried to tell Corax of the truth he had discovered, but Corax's responses amounted to "heresy is bad and you should feel bad", and he said it with lightning claws. Corax was just about to behead Lorgar when Konrad Curze intervened. At this point, Corax's resolve broke, for he looked into the eyes of the Night Haunter and finally knew fear: not the fear of death, but fear that but for chance he could have turned into something as twisted as Curze (particularly when you think of the repressive origins of his legion). Retreating, Corax's forces, primarily designed for quick insertion and covert-ops duty and not sticking around in a meat-grinder suffered the heaviest casualties - and though they fought desperately alongside the Salamanders and Iron Hands, killing countless traitor marines in turn, the loyalists were still slaughtered wholesale, forcing all three legions to withdraw, and leaving them largely unable to stop Horus' advance.

Corax realized how dire the situation was, and returned to Terra to give the Emperor his report. His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listened to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway. The Imperium was collapsing, with the loyalists outnumbered and Guilliman chasing Alpharius halfway across the galaxy and/or building his own empire. The Emperor needed warriors, and Deliverance had none to spare. Searching for a solution, Corax, knowing his Sons lacked the manpower and expertise to be of much use in the coming Siege of Terra, and seeking absolution for running from Curze and Lorgar, beseeched the Emperor (who was already spending all his time and most of his psychic strength on the Golden Throne to prevent a Warp gate from opening at the bottom of the Imperial Palace) to spend Corax and his Legion in a suicide-or-glory plan: to send the Raven Guard out to disrupt traitor supply lines, buying Rogal Dorn time to fortify Terra and the Emperor time to regain control of the Webway. Agreeing that the Raven Guard should continue their lightning-strike and covert-ops tactics, but unwilling to send one of his last loyal Legions to almost-certain death, the Emperor decided to give Corax a dangerous, but potentially game-changing, gift: access to the Emperor's memories on the creation of the Primarchs, and the location of the original complex where they were made, including the knowledge of how to use the long-dormant equipment there. Using the ancient books of research notes the Emperor had left behind when making the first batches of Space Marines and the original genetic sample that the genomes of all Primarchs were derived from, Corax began essentially cloning marines at an alarming rate.

He did not heed the book's warnings however, feeling that the urgency of his mission was of more import. After a fair amount of fuck ups, a solution was found and Corax had discovered a way to make stronger, faster, and more quickly-maturing (physically) Astartes out of toddlers. There were those that opposed this amongst the legion, stating that if it were right to give a five-year-old that much power and produce them that quickly, then the Emperor would have done so, but Corax maintained that they were in dire straits, which called for an exception. Then the Alpha Legion laid the FUCK down on that entire plan, and corrupted the gene-seed that the entire project was and ever would be using. While the earlier products were basically functional (if not exactly well-adjusted) Space Marines, the final batch were a horrible mess of mutants. Corax made the best of a bad situation, assembling a Raptor contingent out of all surviving Marines, giving arms to whomever could use them and improvised, custom armour to the most heavily mutated, and sending them off to attack the Traitors' vulnerable rear supply lines. It worked out remarkably well; all of the Raptors possessed enhanced senses and reflexes (which may have led to the camouflage-and-marksmanship obsession of modern Raptors), allowing them to sneak around and fight even better than other members of the Legion, and the "rough" mutants among them were thought of as unlucky battle-brothers, equal in all respects to the "smooth", non-disfugured Marines, rather than monsters to be shunned. Ironically, when they encountered a small Space Wolf force sent to watch Corax, and, it is heavily implied, to try and kill him if he turned traitor, those who suffered from the Curse of the Wulfen turned out to be far less tolerant of such overt mutation. Unfortunately, it turned out that in the long run this gene-seed corruption led to a slow degradation of consciousness and eventually total, bestial madness.

After the Horus Heresy, Guilliman came back and had a sudden surprising outbreak of common-sense (this is a source of hot debate, many view this decision as the highest degree of fucktarded), demanding that the legions subdivide so that no one person could ever hold the kind of power that led to Horus butt-fucking the entire Imperium. Corax hesitantly agreed, and split his forces, but he remained wracked with guilt; he could not forget what he had done to help save the Imperium, and was left with the horrid choice of what to do about the shambling abominations still kept in the holding cells of the Ravenspire. Eventually, he came to the conclusion that, as he was responsible for their creation, he is the one who now must grant them the Emperor's Mercy, by his own hand, and executed the devolved mutants one by one. He then locked himself in Ravenspire, and for nearly a year, did not came out, having spent most of that time in lamentation and the rest playing Dwarf Fortress. When he did emerge, Corax left Deliverance and made a bee-line for the Eye of Terror, heading there to settle the score.

Quoth the Corax: "Nevermore."

It is believed that like Leman Russ, Lion El'Jonson, and Vulkan, Corax will return in the final apocalyptic battle versus Chaos, when the Emperor returns - and that then, and only then, will he have the absolution he sought. /tg/ often jokes that on that same day, Indrick Boreale will talk normally.

But after all those time in eye of terror he might as well have became daemon pri-
The Raven-Lord deserves to go solo like the Primarch of an independent legion should be. His Raven Lord rule state that, unless the unit targeting him is a psyker/daemon OR Corax is in a unit OR he is the closest unit to them, they can only snap-fire at him. (note: this makes him IMMUNE to Blast & Template weapons, unless they hit him by accident!) He may also remove himself from play and return to reserves, even while in close combat. Furthermore, his Sire of the Legion gives him old-school Furious Charge and his entire legion get acute senses for outflanking and always roll 6s on run moves.

On defense he has the Sable Armour, that gives him a 2+ armour save along with a 5+ invulnerable save (3+/5+ after Istvaan), making him one of the more fragile Primarchs; however he does cause Deep Strike mishaps on doubles to units within 12" and teleport homers just don't work around him. Coupled with his speed and his snapfire defense means the enemy is unlikely to get close to him. He also has the Korvidine Pinions (Loses this at Istvaan), that makes him jump infantry (of course) and let him reroll deeps strike scatter, Vector Strike and gains D3 hammer of wrath hits at S5 AP3. If a mishap occurs, it will always cause the "delayed" result. Lastly he's got Shroud Bombs, for when he's the one getting charged (Not likely, but possible).

On the offense there's the Panopoly of the Raven Lord, an AP2, shredding, blinding weapon set that takes up two hands. Can choose each turn to add D3 attacks / gain +3 to vehicle pen and auto-wound on a 5+ / impose -1 to enemy To Hit rolls (Making him capable of taking on virtually anything, especially on the charge). Lastly there are his two S6 AP3 Master-Crafted Archeotech Pistols: while surely not the strongest ranged weapons for a primarch they get their job done. They get exchanged for an assault 3 Heavy Bolter which also grants him Hatred (All Traitor Legions which participated in the Drop Site Massacre) after Istvaan. After Istvaan and his rendezvous with the Emperor on Terra, he get's his toys back. Somehow.

Especially pre-Isstvan, he's one of the most point-efficient Primarchs. Hit and Run combined with being able to destroy both AV14 and blobs of 20 Marines mean that unlike some people, he can do well against pretty much any target. Your Jump Infantry will pretty much always get turn 2 charges, and your opponent's Deep Strikers are fucked. He seems easy to counter because he only has a 5++, but the snapfire defense combined with T6, Eternal Warrior, and a possible penalty to enemy hit rolls mean that he's tougher than he looks.

He also has two profiles, representing him before Istvaan and during/after the battle. After the battle he loses quite a few of his toys (notably his korvidine pinions and archeotech pistols) and has a lower statline to represent the injuries he sustained, although he also costs 100 points less while gaining Infiltrate and Scout.

Primarch fighting, while fun to see, isn't a very competitive thing to do as it'll usually tie up both Primarchs for the entire game without either of them dying. With that in mind this section is about how Corvus Corax fares against other Primarchs Mathhammer wise.
**Corvus hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3 times (Scourge)/2.25 times (Shadow-walk), 1.25 wounds (Scourge)/0.9375 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and FNP and IWND will take that down to 0.917/0.604 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Angron wins really easily as Corax is simply too frail for him.
**Note: Corax would actually have the edge on the charge thanks to his Sire of the Raven Guard rule and his Hammer of Wrath/dual Archeotech Pistols, but would still lose unless Blind comes into play. He would strip Angron of almost all his wounds, though.

* Corvus Corax vs Mortarion
**Mortarion hits 2.5/1.666 times, wounds 1.666/1.11 times, 1.11/0.74 wounds after saves and 0.777/0.407 wounds after IWND.
**Corvus hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 2.221 times (Scourge)/1.666 times (Shadow-walk), 1.11 wounds (Scourge)/0.833 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.556/0.278 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Mortarion wins either way in this fight, he causes more overall damage, has more wounds, and regenerates faster. In addition even if Corax runs away Mortarion's ability to teleport will mean he'd catch Corax very quickly after he re-appears so he cannot run away to heal which would render this a stalemate.
**Note: Corax could attempt to "cheat" his way to victory thanks to his special rules, especially Sire of the Raven Guard (which grants him Super-Furious Charge) and Hit & Run. With this he could disengage at the end of Mortarion's assault phase, in order to charge him again during his turn. Using this tactic he would Shoot with his pistols for 1.9444 hits, 0.648 wounds, 0.108 wounds after saves, then charge in with Hammer of Wrath gaining 0.333 wounds, and 0.0555 wounds after saves, then attack with the Panoply which hits 4.5 times (scourge), wounds 3.375 times, 1.6875 after saves and 1.132 with IWND for a total of 1.296 Wounds. This, combined with Shadow-walk during Mortarion's assault phase in order to mitigate his retaliation barely lets Corax win if he goes charging scourge in round 7, then scourge again in round 8 as he strikes before Mortarion, compared to 8 rounds needed for Mortarion to kill Corvus (this is including Overwatch with The Lantern).
**Though this looks like a close fight at first glance, this tactic relies completely on Hit and Run (which is more akin to Corvus's fighting style), as well as assumes the Charging always works out in Corvus's favour and so the strategy will mathematically fail over the eight rounds needed to kill Mortarion (as there's mathematically one turn that either Hit and Run or Charging will fail when Mortarion consolidates away from Corvus's consolidation) giving the victory to Mortarion again. But that's actually the same chance of Corax Blinding Mortarion (Not included in the fights), so the odds are still the same.

* Corvus Corax vs Fulgrim
**Fulgrim hits 4.667/3.5 times, wounds 3.111/2.333 times, 2.07/1.555 wounds after saves and 1.737/1.222 wounds after IWND.
**Corax hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3 times (Scourge)/2.25 times (Shadow-walk), 1 wounds (Scourge)/0.75 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.667/0.417 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax lose.
**Note: even with Hit & Run and Sire of Raven Guard Corax cannot win this fight, unless he get lucky with Blind.

* Corvus Corax vs Ferrus Manus
**Ferrus hits 2.5/1.667 times, wounds 2.083/1.389 times, 1.389/0.926 wounds after saves and 1.056/0.592 wounds after IWND.
**Corax hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 2.222 times (Scourge)/1.667 times (Shadow-walk), 0.741 wounds (Scourge)/0.556 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.408/0.222 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax lose.
**Note: as always if Corax can pull off his tactics of Hit & Run he can close the gap, doing a lot more damage on the charge, but Ferrus' Hammer has Concussive AND Strikedown, and even if Corax uses Shadow-walk there is a 93% chance he will receive at least one wound, making it almost impossible to rely on this tactics and assuring Ferrus victory.

* Corvus Corax VS Vulkan
**Vulkan hits 2 times/1.333 times, wounds 1.667 times/1.111 times, 1.111 wounds/0.741 after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.778/0.408 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 2.222 times (Scourge)/1.667 times (Shadow-walk), 0.741 wounds (Scourge)/0.556 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.185/0 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax lose as Vulkan is too beefy.
**Note: even with Hit & Run Corax will struggle to keep up with the damage output of Vulkan, and if he uses Scourge (the only way to really do more damage than him) chance are pretty high that Vulkan will Hammer him to I 1, thus making almost impossible for him to escape.

* Corvus Corax VS Lorgar
**Lorgar hits 2.5/1.666 times, wounds 2.083/1.388 times, 1.388/0.925 wounds after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.055/0.592 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax Round 1: hits 4.741 times (Scourge)/3.555 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3.16 times (Scourge)/2.369 times (Shadow-walk), 1.58 wounds (Scourge)/1.184 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.247/0.851 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax Round 1: hits 5.333 times (Scourge)/4 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3.999 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), 1.999 wounds (Scourge)/1.5 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.666/1.167 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax win.
**Note: as always, no psychic powers.
**Note: doesn't include "Marked By Dark Fates" which makes Corax re roll 5's & 6's for one round.

* Corvus Corax VS Perturabo
**Perturabo hits 2.667 times/2 times, wounds 2.222 times/1.667 times, 1.481 wounds/1.111 after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.147/0.778 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corvus hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3 times (Scourge)/2.25 times (Shadow-walk), 1 wounds (Scourge)/0.75 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.667/0.417 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax lose.
**Note: Welcome to Corvus Corax fist nightmare-city, population: Perturabo. He would mostly like to Hit and Run, but then again, with strikedown, concussive and blind, how can he do that? Also, Perturabo is immune to Blind. Yeah, he is like Corax natural enemy and then some...

* Corvus Corax vs Konrad Curze
**Curze hits 4 times/3 times, wounds 3 times/2.25 times, 2 wounds/1.5 after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.667/1.167 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3 times (Scourge)/2.25 times (Shadow-walk), 1.5 wounds (Scourge)/1.125 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.167/0.792 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax lose.
**Note: even though they both got Hit & Run Konrad doesn't get +1 attack to charge Corax, 'cause he has Shroud Bombs, and also doesn't get +1 S ans I, making Corax considerably stronger when he charge all things considered. All in all, a pretty balanced fight, even if the above stats don't say so.

* Corvus Corax vs Alpharius
**Alpharius hits 2.92/1.944 times and wounds 1.701/1.134 times, 1.134/0.756 wounds after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.801/0.423 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax wins.

* Corvus Corax VS Rogal Dorn
**Dorn hits 2.667/2 times and wounds 2/1.5 times, 1.333/1 wounds after saves and IWND will take that down to 1/0.667 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax wins.

* Corvus Corax VS Roboute Guilliman
**Guilliman Round 1: 2.5/1.666 times, wounds 2.0833/1.389 times, 1.389/0.926 wounds after saves and 1.055/0.593 wounds after IWND.
**Guilliman Round 2 and thereafter: hits 3.333/2.5 times, wounds 2.963/2.083 times, 1.975/1.389 times after saves and IWND will take that down to 1.642/1.055 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corvus hits 4 times (Scourge)/3 times (Shadow-walk), wounds 3 times (Scourge)/2.25 times (Shadow-walk), causing 1 wound (Scourge)/0.625 wounds (Shadow-walk) after saves and IWND will take that down to 0.667/0.292 wounds at the start of the next turn.
**Corax lose badly. What did you expect? No one can win against YOUR SPIRITUAL LIEGE!!!
**Note: Corax could still try to use his Hit and Run tactics to even the odds, but from the second time they fight (whether Corax charges or Guilliman catches him) Guilliman will have him concussed (He's using his fist for a reason) for the rest of the fight and will kill him before Corax can escape again, thus making the strategy not viable against Papa Smurf.

* Corvus Corax VS Leman Russ
**Leman Russ Round 1: Leman Russ Hits 4.667 times, and wounds 3.5. Sever Life bumps this up to 6.328 wounds, which is reduced to 4.17 after saves.
**Corvus Corax Round 1: It literally doesn't matter at this point...

Corax dies to leman russ in round 2, which happens within the span of a single game turn. He simply doesn't have the saves to survive eating 6.3 AP2 wounds a turn, and neither does he have the killyness to get through leman russ in any reasonable length of time.

* TLDR version: Although Corax can put out more damage than most other Primarchs, especially on the charge, where he is almost on par with Angron full charged, he is even frailer than Angron himself, with is weak as ass 5+ invulnerable save that really doesn't help when you are fighting your demi-god brothers. Also, he is extremely vulnerable to Strikedown and Concussive! Still, he can win some fight, or, better, escape from most of the fights he wouldn't love, while being one of the more resilient Primarch when in the open (for his Shadowed Lord rule). In his case, Primarch fighting is really stupid, as he would like to charge and charge and charge again and again until he has killed everything in sight that is not a Primarch. Then, you can focus them when everything else is down...
