'''Vikings''' are the closest equivalent that the real world ever had to [[dwarf|dorfs]].  They were mean, ornery buggers who ravaged and pillaged most of Europe between the 8th and 11th centuries.  Like dorfs, they had a predilection toward axes and battle hammers, though they used whatever weapon they could get a hold of, including the body parts of fallen foes and broken pieces of furnature (much like in [[Dwarf Fortress|one very accurate historical record]]). Their penchant for piracy is renowned, though once they conquered an area they more often than not started legitimate trade posts there (again, [[Dwarf Fortress|accurate).

The most commonly remembered aspect of their culture was their [[heresy|religion]], which included the likes of [[Baldur's Gate|Baldur]], Thor, and Odin.  Thor is the most prominent in modern culture, what with his awesome dorfhammer.  There's also [[chaos|Loki]], Thor's younger brother who wants to bring about Ragnarok, but he was adopted.

They were basically the big dog in the junk yard that was Medieval Europe until King Charles of France (of all places) somehow rolled a nat 20 on his [[Diplomacy]] check, getting the warlord Rollo to swear loyalty while they invaded Saxony.  The vikings got Normandy in return, but being so close to the French turned them all into a bunch of wet diapers.  Those who didn't suck so bad got fed up with it and conquered England instead.
