Thanks to the superiority of Hektor's own genome and the efforts of the gene-wrights of Luna, the First Legion's gene-seed was noted as especially pure and potent until ruined by the corruption of Chaos.  The Legion began to fragment even before the Siege of Terra, and after Hektor's death it dissolved into a series of great warbands led by the ''Diadochi'' or Successors of Hektor.

*'''The Academy of Lukos'''.  After the defeat of the Traitor Legions, Cassander Honorius founded his Academy on the planet Lukos in the Eye of Terror.  He took with him many of the sorcerers who had known him as their master in the First Legion's Librarus, but the Academy also attracted mortal and Space Marine sorcerers from other backgrounds.

*'''[[The Bulwark|The Bulwark of Arelon]]'''.  [[Sebastion Rex]] rebelled against Hektor when the influence of Chaos became all too plain.  Many marines from across the Traitor Legions answered his appeal and fled to the Bulwark, hoping to negotiate with the eventual winner of the Imperium's civil war from a position of strength.  Unfortunately for the Bulwark, the return of the Steel Marshals and Void Angels gave the Imperium the strength to re-establish its borders, over the bodies of Sebastion Rex and his followers.

*'''The Transhuman Cohort'''.  Led by [[Pallas Eugenesis]], the Transhuman Cohort drew away much of the Heralds' Apothecarion and had great genetic expertise.  They attempted to stay neutral in the Legion Wars, trading their skills for slaves and mercenary favours.
