== IRL == Introduced in 1962, the FIM-43 Redeye was the direct predecessor to the FIM-92 Stinger. The project was essentially an attempt to miniaturize the AIM-9 into a shoulder launchable package, but in hindsight the miniaturization was too ambitious for the tech of the day. Simply, the Redeye never worked as planned. By the 70's its reputation was sufficiently tarnished that its improved version was renamed Stinger just to distance itself from the original. The stocks of Redeyes were pawned off to other countries and insurgent groups as Stingers became available. The Redeye's main combat test came in the Soviet-Afghan war, where it performed as badly as the testing had suggested it would, ultimately pushing America to give the Mujahideen actual Stingers. {{Israeli Forces in Team Yankee}}
