==IRL== The FIM-92 Stinger was introduced in 1981 as a direct upgrade to the Vietnam era FIM-43 Redeye. The stock of Redeyes were pawned off to the Afghan mujahideen to little effect. In 1985, America supplied the jihadis with the new hotness and Soviet helicopter kills increased dramatically. Both systems were designed to give infantrymen something to shoot at aircraft that stood at least a chance of actually bringing the target down. While still useless against high speed jets and high altitude bombers, against helicopters and slow close air support aircraft the Stinger trades quite well, reportedly achieving a 79% kill rate in the Soviet-Afghan war. The FIM-92 remains in use as of 2020, although the US and NATO have started making noises about wanting something newer. {{Dutch Forces in Team Yankee}}
