Editing MidHammer 40,000: SM Chapters (section)

====The Penitential Founding (M30-32)====
The Penitential Founding was mandated by the [[MidHammer_40,000_drafts#Descision:The_Fate_of_The_Legions|Council of Terra]] for several of the loyalist remnants. While The Death Guard was permitted to retain its status as legion under Nathaniel Garro, most of the Traitor legions were required to form Penitential Chapters and be placed under the scrutiny of Primarch Jaghatai Khan. Under the Penetential Index, these chapter's had little leeway in structures, numbers, and adherance, and were not permitted to increase their numbers. Whether or not these chapters were able to later reform under a new index and take on replacements was up to the chapter's behavior as well as other factors. Often it depended on the Legion itself. Alpha Legion and Word Bearers chapters for instance were never permitted to form a reformed chapter, while The World Eaters were permitted provided their progeny not receive the butcher's nails.

:Former Word Bearers Chapter.
*Space Wolves 
:Fmr Space Wolves (Vanilla Wolf Brothers), the few who survived the madness. Their founding was unique in that their request to form a Chapter was rejected by non-other than Leman Russ himself. Leman, who was so disgusted with himself and his Legion, did not want any part of his legion to carry forward. They went to the High Lords of Terra and the Emperor himself pleading for the chance to serve the Emperor once again, and permission for the Name "Space Wolves" to die an honorable death. Additionally, they went to Magnus to beg for him to intercede on their behalf, in exchange for service. Magnus was impressed by their gall, and agreed to help them overrule Russ's refusal. The war cry of the new Space Wolves is "Remember Prospero." They go through the galaxy hunting their former brothers, but try to stand clear of their furious father.
