== Society == Thanks to Floral Centrella, the Magistracy of Canopus is a rare gem of the BattleTech universe. A gem set on the diadem of a stripper, sure, but a gem nonetheless. The Magistracy places a special emphasis on personal freedom; so long as all parties are consenting adults, most things, [[Anal circumference|even that thing]], [[/d/|are absolutely fair game]], and the government willingly pushes these freedoms for every citizen. While yes, that does mean that pornography and heroin may as well be legal tender in Canopian space, it does mean that art, food, and personal expression does extremely well within Magistracy space, and the only regulations listed are mostly common sense to ensure the actors/actresses/models/gimps are cared for well and are not mistreated. The emphasis on personal freedom as well as tolerance for one's neighbor also means that there are a litany of religious and ethnic groups that shack up in Canopian space, and for the most part have enjoyed a true "melting pot" society where everyone is enjoying themselves for the most part. Similarly, or perhaps as a consequence of all of the high-risk fucking, the medical technology and biomedicine fields are well-represented in Magistracy borders, happily some light-years ahead of the Inner Sphere or Periphery, with healthcare being not just a right, but almost a trivial matter. Of course, while the obvious problems of addiction and STDs are a common concern, the plan to turn the Magistracy into something too valuable to conquer sort of backfired in that the very largest industry in Canopian space is the Entertainment sector, which is notoriously susceptible to flux. The Canopian education system was notorious until the 31st century for being extremely spotty and dependent on older Star League materials, which only recently began to see some form of upswing, with the two major universities being little more than trade schools until major reforms were enacted. When the Star League collapsed, the Magistracy had a major economic downfall at the hands of a lack of money and exploitation from Inner Sphere business-types, that only got worse after the Succession Wars when all the rich tourists got put off by the hungry refugees flooding in from the Inner Sphere for awhile. Further, while the rather harsh restrictions on men were lifted fairly early on in the Canopian history books, one of it's main social concerns are that Women are naturally better-suited to command and administrative roles than men, and men typically have to overcome quite a lot of stereotyping in order to really make it within their borders. Though given the many, many, ''many'' outlets of which said men have to overcome such stresses, it has rarely ever been that much of an issue. The Trinity Alliance, formed with the Tauran Condordat and the Capellan Confederation, was a major shot in the arm for Canopus, as previously neglected areas of work had been built up, and the influx of cash meant that their famous "Pleasure Circuses" could now go on the road and send money back to Canopus, leading to a major boost in their economy.
