===Total War: Shogun=== The first, <s>somewhat obscure</s> unknown to underage b8 game in the series, but set a good standard for the rest to come. Difficult as fuck, as early rebellions spawned enough forces to overrun even major clans, and an assassin unit called Geisha was so overpowered, legendary Geishas could off entire Dynasties giving the [[Officio Assassinorum]] a hard on. 20 years later, while the game is archaic, it's still challenging as all fuck. You can be a TW [[Grognard|grog]] and this game will still tear you a new one (or two), because being very rudimentary in gameplay options also means it's far, far easier to fuck-up or get fucked-up. Graphics are, well, 20 years old, the hell you were expecting? Everyone has the exact same units, no variety included, but that also means you don't need to memorize gorillion of troops or check wikia non-stop (something that modern TW games are guilty of) to know what you are facing and what to expect. Diplomacy... eh, just conquer them, ok? Also, unlike Shogun 2, this one allows you to deal with the Dutch, rather than Portuguese, which means all the western dakka without the western preachers. Comes with the Mongol Invasion expansion, which is based on the premise of the lucky kamikaze storm never sinking the Mongolian fleet. You either fight as the shogunate, controlling all of Japan (at least in the first turns before rebel scum split your territories apart), or the Mongolian horde, which controls 1 province at the start. Unless you are a big fan of cavalry charges and counter-charges, it's not the best expansion.
