==Fairies in Legend of Zelda== Fairies are staple in Legend of Zelda that appear to aid Link in various ways. Depending on the game they appear as your typical cute fairy, or as a ball of light with wings who presumably has a body why don't see due to the light blocking our view. For the most part they act as a healing item, either healing Link on contact or if he catches them they will bring him to life if he dies. In older games this would fully heal him, as the series went on being revived by a fairy gave less and less health to encourage the use of other healing items. Ocarina of Time started to give the small fairies more of a story role with each the Kokiri having one as a companion, except Link until his companion Navi shows up. Navi is infamous for just giving advice the player doesn't need, though she also providing the game's targeting mechanic (which even works invisible enemies). Post Majora's Mask, Link is able to lock onto things on his own so the fairy companions were dropped, aside from in Phantom Hourglass where he's aided by a fairy named Ciela (he can switch between two others but she is the one with the story role) who gives buffs in combat. Aside from the tiny fairies the series has the much larger Great Fairies who range from being human sized to outright giants. These fully heal Link when he meets them on top of giving him upgrades to his items or new abilities. While the great fairies aren't evil, some games, most (in)famously Ocarina of Time, they are still fucking creepy thanks to their unsettling designs and eerie laughs.
