==Variants== Throughout the Carnifex's lengthy history, there have been a couple popular loadouts that have stuck around since their introduction back in 2E. ===Screamer-Killer=== A melee-focused 'fex, equipped with only two pairs of talons with no other armaments to its name. It's named the Screamer-Killer thanks to its unique Bio-Plasmic Scream, which is what happens when it vomits out superheated plasma onto a crowd. Screamer-Killers are said to be the largest and most infamous species of Carnifex. While prior editions didn't really see it differentiated much from other fexes aside from maybe a slightly different head, 10th Edition decided to take great strides to make it unique by making its four new talons into monstrous crab legs and its head taking an appearance that's more akin to the original oldschool Carnifex. Yes, by all accounts, GW managed to somehow make the goofy-ass early Carnifex design, genuinely badass. On the tabletop, in 10th Edition, the Screamer-Killer is a genuine melee-monster. Whilst it is comparatively sluggish at just Movement 8", its stats means that not even MEQs can survive long in this living meat blender. T9, 10 Wounds, LD8+, SV2+ makes this a tough bastard to take down. Its weapons has ten fucking attacks, strikes on a 3+, with each hit dealing S10, AP-2, and D3. Even assuming that only a third of them hit, you are still looking at an average of 9 wounds per turn. And that is not getting into its Bio-Plasmic Scream which is a decent MEQ remover in its own right. Swarmlord eat your heart out, because you are getting some spicy competition. <gallery> OldCarnifex.jpg|What it originally looked like, goofy as shit. ScreamerKiller2.jpg|The one we were stuck with for decades. Have fun trying to differentiate this from a regular old Carnifex. </gallery> ===Thornback=== A more firepower-focused version of the Carnifex. The complete opposite of the Screamer-Killer. The Thornback (Carnifex vorantii) is a Tyranid sub-species of Carnifex which is the renown master of shock-assault. These creatures are living batteries of symbiote weaponry equipped with short- to medium-range ballistic parasites and living bomb projectors. It is so named because of the intimidating-looking thorns on this subspecies, which are in fact sensory organs for sniffing out prey. Although it can modify them into a ranged artillery weapon. They are infantry hunters that seem to take pleasure in rooting out hiding men. Despite its lack of specialized melee limbs the Thornback is extremely dangerous at close quarters, where its speed and bulk allow it to easily impale incautious enemies. It can be armed with Deathspitters, Devourers, Spine Banks, Stranglethorn Cannon, Monstrous Scything Talons and Thresher Scythe. clear ===Stone Crusher=== Forge World's exclusive Carnifex pattern. The Stone-Crusher (Carnifex oprimo) is an adaptation of the Carnifex designed to counter imperial heavy tanks and fortifications. A charging Stone Crusher can topple tanks, damage ceramite armour, and only heavy weaponry is capable of piecing its Armoured Shell. It was notably used by Hive Fleet Behemoth on Moloch, where a stampede of Stone Crusher Carnifexes teared trough kilometers of ferrocrete fortifications. While charging, it can rams through a wall, then using its immense strength, it can pull backward to wrench walls down, taking down buildings and obstacles. On tabletop, the crunch matches the fluff as they are a even nastier and more 'battering ram' styled Carnifexes, used as living siege engines thanks to their Bio-Flail and Wrecker Claw combo. Other weapons found exclusively on Stone Crushers include the Tail Mace, Carapace Chitin-Rams and Tusks They have a bevvy of special rules making it even easier for them to knock down buildings (never a big problem for 'fexes, but a job's a job), and reduce incoming fire strength. They aren't bad melee 'fexes even if your opponent has no buildings, though, and are reliable enough investments to a stompy 'nid list. <gallery> Stonecrushercarnifex.jpg StoneCrusherCarnifexWreckerClaws.jpg|With Wrecker Claws. </gallery>
