===The Ultramarines=== ;Founded :M30 ;Successors of :None, The Ultramarines Legion ;Spiritual Liege of :Solium Ultramaris Ex Ultramari ;Offshoots :Most chapters are offshoots ;Fortress Monastery location :None, Nomadic ;Patron Saint :Lord Roboute the Conqueror ;Chapter Characteristics :Emphasis on Conflict, administrating to Imperial Guard, strict legalist dogma, rigid structure Founded from the remaining Ultramarine scouts and companies who escourted Tarasha Euten during the Final Flight of The Maiden of Espandor, the Ultramarines Chapter can boast original successorship to the legion of Roboute Gulliman, though many were only Scouts or initiates at the time. Because of this claim they are uniquely one of the only Spiritual Liege chapters who are permitted to equip themselves as a regular Index Aurelian chapter, and are not bound to the strictures imposed on the later Collegium chapters. They place this armor to good use, as unlike the now mostly ceremonial roles performed by the other Collegio chapters, the Ultramarines are first and foremost, a military organization. They often travel through the Solar and Ultima Segmentum to provide combat and logistical support to Imperial Guard Chapters. Their Ancillae, often as reflections of themselves are military chaplains and hospitallers first. Because of their harsh, spartan lifestyle, the Ultramarines have little time or patience for the abstractions and musings the other Chapters can afford. To them the teachings of their primarch were more than sufficient, and to expound upon them with personal glossia clutters his teachings, leaving openings for ambiguity, slovenliness, or worse corruption.
