Back again as one of the few "half-x" racial templates in the monster manual. Notably, they are explicitly stated to be infertile, which begs the question of how the bloodline manages to continue long enough to produce dragonblood [[Sorcerer (Dungeons & Dragons)|sorcerers]].

In Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, they give out tons of different ways a half-dragon can come about (again just the same thing because magic but with more examples), from being by parental, being blessed, cursed, or eating something dragon-related. One Dragon Lair effect can even couse creatures to be born half-dragon if within the area of effect. Imagine your trying to sneak up on a green dragon and it sends swarms of rabbits after the party [[The World Wars|that are spewing clouds of poisonous chlorine gas like it was ww1]].

A different kind of half-dragon adjacent create created by Fizban is the Dragonflesh grafters, who obviously try to gain power through dragon parts but didn't hear the legends about turning into Body horror dragons. They eventually turn into troll-like abominations, Overcome with greed as their bodies Regenerate and mutate into Dragonic shapes, showing stomach acid like a dragon.
