==Warhammer Fantasy== Sphinxes are not known to have actually existed as a living creature in Warhammer, and instead the Tomb Kings (an Egyptian-expy race of living skeletons) of Nehekhara (not-Egypt) created living statues of them. They come in two varieties, the Necrosphinx and the Khemrian Warsphinx. The former possesses wings and giant blade weapons resembling a second pair of wings, and bears the face of a man of some importance in history (the older ones have human faces, those created after the death and debirth (unbirth? antibirth?) of the Nehekharans have skeletal ones, and its very possible for the same Tomb King to thus have a Necrosphinx depicting his face before and after death). The latter resembles a skeletal Sphinx and has a Howdah (a carriage mounted to the back of a large animal) in which either an important person within the Tomb Kingdom rides or else a team of highly trained warriors bearing spears. According to the Rise of Nagash novel, Sphinx were an actual creature in Nehekhara's past before Nagash fucked it up. You see, Ushabti were living god chosen warriors instead of constructs back then. Every Nehekharan gods has their own flavor of Ushabti, and there is this god called Geheb, the Nehekharan God of Earth and Strength. Since he is associate with earth and muscles, his Ushabti has features of lion with mane, leonine fangs, etc all that good stuffs and are muscular as fuck. There are even more powerful Ushabtis found in Mahrak, the founding place of Nehekharan's faith, which is where Sphinx lives. Sphinx were just an upgraded Ushabti of Geheb, and they go from being werelions into giant man-face lion. It attacks with sharp claws, fangs and powerful tails, which are so destructive it could broke Nagash's Necrolith Colossus in one strike. Other than their amazing offense ability, they are also fast, has strong resistance to arrows and hunts in pack. Dust storms that were magically formed by the magical power of Mahrak provides them absolute defense through stealth, allowing them to retreat if any of them were injured, or to lure their enemies into it then destroy them all in an ambush, making them fine hunters, and an absolute pain in the arse for Nagash to deal with. These amazing creatures will never be seen again however, for Nagash had robbed them of their existence by breaking the sacred treaty. Their only legacy remained as sculptures and hieroglyphs in the Pyramid.
