===Vanguard Spearhead=== This army might be better recognized if you recall the Shadowspear Boxset or the entire 8.5E Codex, which introduced a bunch of Phobos units as part of your army and proved authorial favoritism. This new army introduced in the Warzone Nachmund just lets you make a variant army entirely of sneaky jumbo-marines. *'''Restrictions:''' Your entire army must either have the {{W40kKeyword|PHOBOS}} keyword or be either Suppressors (who are technically wearing Omnis armor) or Impulsors. Invictors are also valid. You also can't include any {{W40kKeyword|Deathwatch}} units, which is a damn shame. *'''Benefits:''' Alongside the {{W40kKeyword|Vanguard Spearhead}} keyword given to all units, your Incursors, Infiltrators, and Reivers all become Obsec, being your frontline infantry units. Also, instead of your Chapter Tactic, you gain Light cover if you are further than 18" (essentially Stealthy Successor Tactic), 6" Consolidations and +1 to hit when shooting for your {{W40kKeyword|Infantry}} units if they moved more than 4". **Saying you "Don't have a chapter tactic" is a bit disingenuous considering the bonus you do get. While you don't get the chapter tactic you do get doctrines, stratagems and psychic powers unique to your founding legions and since that is independent of the tactics. A few intresting combos with this: ***'''Raven Guard''': Raven guard probably come out ahead with this, adding one to hit and wound character's in a army that pushes you toward models that have a higher then average 'no look out sir' is very handy. They also have a few stragems that can help out an all Phobos army, Ambushing fire for example can really make the infiltrator Marksman bolt carbines sting, auto wounding at -2 Ap in the tactical doctrine. Ouch. A particularly nasty trick is to use Strike form Shadows stratagem to make a unit of Infiltrators appear 9 inches away from a character you particularly hate then use the vangaurd stratagem Marksman Target-Tracker so they ignore look sir and then start blasting with +1 to hit and wound if your in tactical doctrine. CP expensive but if you must destroy one character: could be worth it. ***'''Ultramarines:''' when tactical doctrine is up, (turns 2-3) you can move freely, procing your +1 to hit and still count as standing still to pour bolt fire onto targets. There redeployment statgement is also very good and so ultramarines are a good pick for the Vanguard. *'''Relics:''' **'''The Armour Umbral:''' The bearer can never be hit on a 1-3 and can charge after advancing. This is an insane set of benefits, making you an absolute hassle to kill, though any hits will still hurt just as bad. ***You have five Phobos HQs: Librarians, two kinds of Lieutenant, Captains, and Kayvaan Shrike, who can't take a relic. Ironically, your Librarian has the hardest hitting weapon (Dd3 Force Sword), as you're stuck with D1 combat knives on everyone else. Do you ''really'' want to risk getting into combat with a chainsword that doesn't even give you +1 attacks? You probably won't be afraid fighting chaff, but most will probably be hitting on 4s anyway. **''' Morbidus Bolts:''' More special bolter ammo. These bolts fire once and deal a flat 2 mortal wounds. The target also unit suffers -1 to any combat attrition tests they make. This will require another unit to also shoot the enemy in order to force that attrition check. **'''The Night's Blade:''' Replaces combat knife or paired combat blades and makes them S:user AP-3 D2, that wounds anything except {{W40kKeyword|Vehicle}} on 2s. An interesting option for your Reiver Lieutenant, if you want to give him some bite, but not your front-runner because next relic exists... **'''Shadow's Touch:''' A nifty little toy for your sneaky Librarian, which makes his Force Sword +3 -4 2, but on successful cast of Obscuration psychic power makes him [[AWESOME|IGNORE INVULS]] until the next psychic phase. While your Librarians are by no means a great candidate for dedicated beatstick build, this and inability to take Chaplains and Captains makes it your best shot to outright kill most things that he touches with his blade. *'''Upgrades''' **{{W40kKeyword|Infiltrator Squad}} can be given Saboteur Explosive Pack and/or Voxbreaker Auspex, giving them their keyword for Stratagem use. **{{W40kKeyword|Incursor Squad}} can take Marksman's Target-Tracker, also for Stratagem use. *'''Stratagems:''' <tabs> <tab name="Battle Tactics"> *'''A Storm of Death (1CP):''' Allows {{W40Kkeyword|Vanguard Spearhead Reiver Squad}} deal MW on unmodified 6s to wound in close combat VS {{W40Kkeyword|Infantry}} or {{W40Kkeyword|Biker}} to a maximum of 6 MW. *'''Ocular Networking (1CP):''' Extra -2 AP for {{W40Kkeyword|Vanguard Spearhead}} unit on unmodified 6s to wound in close combat or shooting VS {{W40Kkeyword|vehicle}} or {{W40Kkeyword|Monster}} unit, which stacks with Combat Doctrines bonus. </tab> <tab name="Epic Deed"> *'''Pivotal Moment (2CP):''' A possible "Delete Warlord" button here, makes {{W40Kkeyword|Vanguard Spearhead Core}} unit in Shooting Phase deal MW equal to Damage characteristic of their weapon per successful wound roll against enemy {{W40Kkeyword|Warlord}}. </tab> <tab name="Strategic Ploy"> *'''Dispersal Protocols (2CP):''' Allows {{W40Kkeyword|Vanguard Spearhead}} unit to Fall Back at the end of the Fight Phase as if it were your Movement phase. </tab> <tab name="Wargear"> *'''Saboteur Explosive Pack (1 CP):''' When a {{W40kKeyword|Saboteur Explosive Pack}} unit (apparently given to Infiltrators) falls back, they can make one parting shot against an enemy vehicle or monster they were engaged with. Roll 1d6. On a 2+, the enemy unit suffers d3 MWs, d6 MWs on a 6. ''Could be used after '''Dispersal Protocols''' for a hit and run attack''. *'''Voxbreaker Auspex (1CP):''' In your Command Phase select one enemy unit within 18" of your {{W40kKeyword|Voxbreaker Auspex}} unit. Until your next turn, selected unit takes -1 to hit penalty for shooting and if it declares a charge its target can either Hold Steady or Set to Defend. *'''Marksman Target-Tracker (1 CP):''' When a {{W40kKeyword|Marksman Target-Tracker}} unit (apparently given to Incursors) shoots, they can ignore Look Out Sir, letting them snipe out characters. It's still just bolters, mind you. *'''Tactical Augury (1CP):''' Give {{W40kKeyword|Vanguard Spearhead}} unit ability to ignore all cover, Dense included. </tab> </tabs>
