Not all Imperial citizens are given the thumbs up to join the Inquisition. Only the select few brimming with potential and promise are selected by a particular Inquisitor and even then, only a few are able to ascend to full fledged Inquisitor in their own right. Acolytes or Warrior Acolytes (Sometimes referred to as an Explicator or Interrogator) are such a case and are usually the Inquisitor's personal <s>cannon fodder</s> apprentices given the special access and privileges to learn what is often deemed as too confidential for public security or too heretical to let any normal pleb living in the Underhives to spread the knowledge around. Acolytes accompany a fully experienced Inquisitor in his/her Inquisitorial duties. He/she may perform a number of tasks such as the aforementioned warrior, scribe, and interrogator. After a set amount of time, his or her master will recommend to the Ordos of the Inquisition to advance the Acolyte to full Inquisitorial rank. After this, the Acolyte is a full Inquisitor and begins his own agenda and operations. Although the former Acolyte is no longer bound to his old master, the two will have formed a bond and may work together and help one another in the future. ==Overview== Acolytes usually start at the rank of Explicator, where they learn how to extract information using torture under the direction of their mentor Inquisitor. Explicators move up as more experience is gained in the ways of the Inquisition to the rank of Interrogator. Interrogators are both capable and strong, having a tremendous will to survive battle alongside their mentors. Acolytes are also often called upon to do separate missions of less importance or provide additional firepower for their mentor. Simple missions can include anything from as mundane as running errands to a planetary government, getting take-out meals, shuttling around important people, scouting terrain and filing reports; to fully representing an Inquisitor's presence on an entire planet which may include hunting down a particular individual, leading a group of individuals to exterminate a cult etc. Often Acolytes are sent into an area to set up a base of operations in preparation for the coming of their mentors and subsequent missions. When push comes to shove and the Inquisitor's merry-band of sociopaths gets caught up in an active war zone, it is up to the Acolytes to transform into a front line soldier. This is where the Acolytes comes into play when it comes into these particular situations. As almost all Inquisitors maintain an inner circle of bodyguards and warriors. Service as a Warrior Acolyte is fraught with danger, but also the first rite of passage for one who wishes to follow in his or her master's footsteps. With a wide range of weapons at their disposal, Warrior Acolytes can take to the field of battle extensively armed, heavily armoured and ready for imminent combat with the foes of the Emperor. Since an Inquisitor differs from person to person, so do the equipment choice and attire of the Inquisitor's Acolytes. They can go from as being more then mere cannon fodder to being turned into a quasi-Grey Knight/Crusader. But the most likely case is one decked out in weaponry that only the most veteran of Imperial Guardsmen can carry such as a Combi-Needler or a Condemner Boltgun for example.
