==Variant Class==
The '''Evangelist''' is a [[Variant Class]] of the [[Cleric#Third Edition|Cleric]] [[Class]] released in [[Dragon Magazine]] #311 pgs. 52-53

Evangelists are characterized as having a more intense personal relationship with their deity than most Clerics, often never having sought out the diety nor having formal training. Due to their natural link to their diety and capability for [[Spontaneous Casting]], Evangelists are often compared to [[Sorcerer (Dungeons & Dragons)|Sorcerers]].

* The Evangelist is the first cleric variant capable of Spontaneous Casting, though was followed by the [[Favored Soul]] and [[Mystic]], respectively. The cleric also gained a variant system in [[Unearthed Arcana#3e UA Content|Unearthed Arcana 3e]] with the capability of Spontaneous Casting.

==Prestige Class==
The '''Evangelist''' is a [[Prestige Class]] released in [[Complete Book Series|Complete Divine]] pgs. 39-41 as a [[Prestige Class]].

Pathfinder introduced their own variant of the Evangelist Prestige Class in Inner Sea Gods, though with different requirements. This version only required a player to be within a step of their chosen god's alignment in order to qualify. Since this could be chosen for any class, not only did it allow for some weird combinations for Evangelists, but it also permitted some class features to still level up while they were in this class. This also opens access to Divine Boons, special gifts each god gives to their favored servants - otherwise only found by taking the Deific Obedience feats.

==Archetype==
The '''Evangelist''' is an [[Archetype]] for the Cleric in [[Pathfinder Roleplaying Game|Pathfinder]], having released in Ultimate Combat.

These Evangelists lack the armor training of regular clerics and only get one domain to choose from, but instead gain [[Bard|Bardic Performance]] as an additional resource that develops as they level up and Perform as a class skill. That said, this does interfere a bit with the progression of Channel Divine Energy.

Evangelists can spontaneously cast some spells, but none of them are for healing or harming. Instead, they get to spontaneously cast from a list of Enchantment spells like Command and Suggestion.
