The Ghustil is a specialist githyanki mage who has learned to manipulate astral energies in order to mimic the effects of various curative spells, making them the dedicated healer caste for a race that shuns the gods as slavers and thusly has no clerics. Ghustils have been around since githyanki society was first detailed in "A Guide to the Astral Plane", but were one of several githyanki Prestige Classes presented in Polyhedron Magazine #159 for 3rd edition, as well as a githyanki monster statblock in the 4e splatbook "Secrets of the Astral Sea". ==Great Wheel Version== Ghustils are healers who are adept at manipulating the energies of the Astral Plane into healing power. Since natural healing is impossible on their native plane, those few githyanki who can master healing spells - bards, rangers and the ghustil - are vitally important to their warrior culture. A ghustil's healing abilities pale in comparison to to the clerics of other races, but they are beyond the reach of any bard or ranger, so their talents are greatly appreciated. Ghustils generally begin their careers as wizards, bards or psions, or sometimes as sorcerers. Few other classes bring the knowledge of arcane matters required for the ghustil's discipline. Although they are primarily spellcasters, ghustils are not considered warlocks since they do not use their spells as weapons. Rather, they are part of the hr'a'cknir caste, along with experts and other craftspeople. Even so, they serve a crucial function in any military action, particularly such a large-scale action as the invasion of Pharagos, and at least one ghustil is found with every military unit of any size. These spells are neither arcane nor divine, but are powered by the energies of the Astral Plane, and so can only be cast on a plane that connects to the Astral (which is all of them, in the standard Great Wheel). Ghustils do not receive bonus spells, and saving throws against ghustil spells have a DC of (10 + spell level + te bonus for the minimum Wisdom required to cast the spell), or (10 + spell level * 1.5). A ghustil casts spells just as a bard does, except her spells are neither arcane nor divine. Ghustil caster level is equal to her class level plus her caster level in one other spellcasting class. {| class=wikitable !Level||Base Attack Bonus||Fort Save||Ref Save||Will Save||1st Level Spells/Day||2nd Level Spells/Day||3rd Level Spells/Day||4th Level Spells/Day||5th Level Spells/Day||6th |- |1||+0||+2||+2||+2||5||-||-||-||-||- |- |2||+1||+3||+3||+3||6||3||-||-||-||- |- |3||+2||+3||+3||+3||6||4||-||-||-||- |- |4||+3||+4||+4||+4||6||5||3||-||-||- |- |5||+3||+4||+4||+4||6||6||4||-||-||- |- |6||+4||+5||+5||+5||6||6||5||3||-||- |- |7||+5||+5||+5||+5||6||6||6||4||-||- |- |8||+6||+6||+6||+6||6||6||6||5||3||- |- |9||+6||+6||+6||+6||6||6||6||6||4||- |- |10||+7||+7||+7||+7||6||6||6||6||5||3 |} Ghustil Spell List Ghustils choose their spells known from the following very limited list. These warriors dedicated to Vlaakith have learned to channel nascent bits of divine power, snatched while drifting in the Astral Sea or stolen from those who channel divine power regularly. The ghustils are not widely trusted by other githyanki, mostly due to their association with the power of the gods. Still, Vlaakith has given her approval to the ghustils, and so they travel with githyanki raiding parties and incursion forces, acting as her eyes and ears. Like the blackweaves, the ghustils have the ability to channel power directly from the lich-queen, which they in turn use to bolster the efforts of other githyanki. Many githyanki tolerate the presence of the ghustils simply because they know that the ghustils have (and can confer) the favor of Vlaakith. However, if the ghustils were to fall out of favor, few of them would survive without the lich-queenโs protection. A ghustil begins combat by using cloak of shadows to avoid attacks and to set up its positioning for a strike. In the following round, it unleashes necrotic smite on a single target, continuing this cycle until its foes are dead. Additionally, a ghustil uses gift of Vlaakith to give temporary hit points to allies in danger. Gith
