The Land Ironclad is the embodiment of human defiance in the Great Martian War. Its cannons are only rivaled by the great guns of the Navy's Dreadnoughts. Its armor only rivaled by the great fortresses of the Mississippi Line. Its impact in the hearts of those who witness it only rivaled by the impact of its fury on the Martian Tripods. It is the will of the American spirit given form. The design for these great war engines was originally laughed of the drawing board as the technological challenges of essentially mounting a small battleship on tracks were seen as insurmountable. The United States Army was on the verge of axing the program on the spot when the United States Navy proposed a slightly smaller <s>and slightly more sensible</s> design that they were confident their existing shipbuilding infrastructure could produce, and nothing lights a fire under weapons development programs like a little inter-service rivalry. Even before the Cylinders of the first wave fell in the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico, the first of the Land Ironclads were taking form. With their gargantuan size, a traditional power plant and transmission system would disintegrate under the strain. Instead, each of the four tracks are powered by revolutionary electric motors, fed from a steam powered turbine system in the primary hull. The Ironclads were also designed to be semi-amphibious, since their shear bulk made it virtually impossible for them to utilize existing infrastructure. Great buoyancy modules are attached to the hull, allowing the the Ironclads to navigate the numerous rivers of the United States as liquid highways or be towed through the open sea. The first true test of the Land Ironclads came during the Battle of Memphis, one of the twin battles for the Mississippi. Four Land Ironclads, each named for a city lost to the Martian onslaught, arrived in the battle zone just as the defense of the city began to crumble. The Land Ironclad is a heavy vehicle used by the US forces in AQMF. This engine of war features one 12-inch tank gun, a 7-inch tank gun, four 5-inch tank guns, four 4-inch tank guns and eight machine guns, making it one of the most Shooty vehicles in the game, and the third most expensive unit at 750 points alone. As the fuckhuge threat that it is, the Ironclad is most effective at being a Distraction so you can sneak your smaller units round the back of the Martians.
