The '''crocotta''', also known by a shit-ton of variant spellings such as '''corocotta''', '''crocuta''' and '''leucrocotta''' (which is technically the offspring of a lion and a crocotta) is a mythical beastie born out of ancient Greek descriptions of hyenas. It is said to have the head of a badger, the cloven hooves of a deer, a lion's mane and tail, a mouth that stretches back to its ears, and two unbroken ridges of bone instead of teeth. It can mimic human speech, which it uses to lure victims.

[[Dungeons and Dragons]] (and its derivatives, such as [[Pathfinder]]) uses the spelling '''leucrotta''' for this monster, which has appeared in every edition except 4th.
