For some unknown reason, Wizards decided that an expensive and limited set would be a good place to test out new "environmentally friendly" booster packs made of card-stock instead of the usual thin shiny foil. Not only were these packs easier to tamper with, they also tended to [[fail | damage the expensive cards they contained]]. MM2 would be the first and last set to use these packs for obvious reasons.

MM2 also introduced the new price point for Masters series packs: $9.99.
