The sprites lived peacefully in an ancient primordial paradise while the planet and the rest of the realm developed. However, that peace was broken when the Darkust arrived. They came from the Dark World on a meteorite, and quickly began infesting the entire planet. The nature spirits could do nothing but watch as their world was consumed by the parasites, they resigned themselves to their fate and slipped silently into the oblivion their world had become. However, all was not lost, the nature spirits encountered a whole new species when they retreated deep below the planet's surface, the ancestral Changeling species. The nature spirits discovered the spark of sentience in these creatures, and realized that they had to try and take back the planet for it's future inheritors. The spirits forged the automatons to defeat the Darkust, it was successful, but not completely, so the automatons built advanced technology to aid them in their war against the Darkust. Eventually the automatons won by building starships and bombing the Darkust to dust. After defeating their parasitic enemy, the automatons sunk their starships into the Home World's oceans, hid all of their advanced cybernetic technology, and shut down so to await the day the Changelings discovered them. When the Changelings finally did emerge from underground, they were still a small race of primitives, and they had no idea of the epic struggle that had ragged above them over the course of their development. The discovery of the portals and the automatons led to the creation of the Changeling's “Elven” society, and the founding of the Home World capital. Sometime after the construction of the capital city, the realm lord Divergus arrived in Hivus and was declared emperor. == Complications == '''Nightmare''' Darkust parasites, tiny locust like creatures capable of flight, telepathy, and mutation. They dwell on the Dark world of Hivus and have completely infested the planet and every living creature on it. Non-infected organisms arriving on the Dark World will be assaulted with feelings of fear, and horrifying visions. These visions are designed to cripple victims so that the parasites can quickly infect them. Darkust consume light and sound, as the number of Darkust parasites increases, the amount of light and sound in an area will decrease until eventually the area is completely dark and silent. Darkust reproduce by cocooning living organisms, then implanting larva inside their victims bodies. Aside from reproduction, Darkust can do several other things with their victims; they can take physical control over a victim's body, they can use telepathy to torture their victims or remove their powers, and they can mutate their victims into horrifying eldritch creatures. The Parasites spread rapidly, infect every living thing they touch, have the ability to survive in any environment, and are almost impossible to kill. '''Benevolent''' Divergus cares deeply about his people, and he does everything he can to protect and lead them. He sits with the council to help resolve debates, he walks amongst the people giving aid to random strangers, and he uses his influence to grant favors, organize exciting events, and promote adventures. '''Artifact''' "The celestial core", a metal sphere with an arcane star at the center, it's size and location can be altered at will by Divergus. The core is typically worn by him as a necklace, but it can be instantly stored at the center of Hivus's sun in the event of an emergency. The celestial core is enchanted to be impossible to lose. == Area == -'''Total area of Hivus''': 3,000,000,000 Km2 -'''Total area of the Home World''': 1,530,000,000 Km2 (Three times the size of Earth) -'''Area of each Home World moon''': 144,000,000 km2 (Same size as Mars) -'''Combined area of all three moons''': 432,000,000 km2 -'''Total area of the asteroid belt''': 4,000,000 km2 -'''Area of each Division World''': 250,000,000 km2 (Between Earth & Mars in size) -'''Total area of the 4 Division Worlds''': 1,000,000,000 km2 -'''Area of each Division World moon''': 17,000,000 km2 (About the size of Pluto) -'''Combined area of the two Division World moons''': 34,000,000 Km2 == Division of realm == '''Metallic world (Division World)''' The planet consists of three separate land masses, each one is covered in dirt, rock, and dead plant life. There is no water on the planet, instead the seas are made of boiling vegetable oil. The atmosphere is cloudy and smoggy, but enough sunlight is let through to support life. The planets weather has only two settings, cloudy and stormy. All of the plant life on the planet is either petrified or metallic, and the animals all have metal skin and acidic blood. '''Home world''' 3 moons: Each one fertile and habitable with a wide range of geographic features. Some have mountains, plains, valleys, cold tundras, and sparse forests, while others have jungles, deserts, and massive seas of trees. All of the moons are covered in various numbers of rivers, seas, and lakes that provide fresh water to the environment. The Home World itself is fertile, resource rich, and three times the size of Earth. It possess three continents, each one covered in a multitude of unique & exciting environments; Hot, humid, and colorful Rainforests, Deserts of both sand and rock, sprawling forests filled with giant trees, snowy tundras, frozen ice caps, rolling hills, deep dark oceans, and flat featureless grassy plains that seem to go on forever. Aside form the surface environments, the Home World is also host to a massive network of underground caverns, these caverns contain glowing magic crystals, underground pockets of water, and numerous valuable ores. The caverns can be accessed via natural openings like caves and sinkholes. '''Asteroid field''' Bodies of ice, rock, metal, and other materials floating together out in space. '''Volcanic world (Division World) 1 moon: Barren and rocky just like Earth's moon. The eastern hemisphere of the planet is covered in a single, continent spanning, volcanic wasteland. Because of the ash clouds from the volcanoes, the wasteland is almost constantly covered in storms, and darkness. The only habitable environments in the wasteland are a few lakes and pools of boiling water, some of which contain algae and bacteria. The western hemisphere of the planet is a beautiful archipelago of fertile, volcanic islands. The islands vary widely in size, and are home to hundreds of different types of flora and fauna. Aside from the land, the large blue ocean on the planets western hemisphere also supports a menagerie of plant and animal life, and western hemisphere is also completely free of the harmful ash clouds found in the eastern hemisphere, allowing sunlight to shine through the atmosphere. Valuable minerals and ores would be found all across the planet if someone were to mine for them. '''Dark world (Division World)''' 1 moon: Barren and rocky just like Earth's moon. The planet is one giant continuous jungle, there are a few mountains, clearings, lakes, and swamps to break up the environment a bit, but other than that there is nothing on the planet except jungle and rainforest. There is an energy field around the atmosphere that weakens sunlight, and nullifies magic. Both the flora and fauna consist of organisms that could are found on the Home World. The Dark World is home to the realm's “Nightmare”, and thus extremely dangerous to all organic life. '''Frozen word (Division World)''' Nearly the entire planet is a frozen wasteland, there are vast plains of snow, icy mountainous, and frozen bodies of water all across the surface. The only habitable points on the planet are the small oases along the equator, and the fresh water caverns found below the surface. == Gateways & Portals == '''Gateway network''' There are a total of 500 gateways in the entire realm. The gateways of Hivus are large, sports stadium sized disks embedded in the planets and moons of the realm, Each gateway consists of a large surface gate, 4 small underground gates, and a control station. The stations allow the gateways to be activated, deactivated, and reprogrammed at will. '''Portal Network''' The portals are controlled by a network facility on the Home World, and by small portal boxes. The portal boxes are about the size of a radio and can only be used by Changelings. == Assimilation == The portals that allow entrance into Hivus can also be used to transform people into Changelings. or the assimilation to work, a portal must first be programed to transform the individual(s) entering it, then set for the amount of time that person wishes to remain transformed. Mental consent HAS to be given in order for the transformation to work. Assimilation also makes it possible for organisms to survive in Hivus, regardless of weather they were transformed or not. == Changelings: Biology == In both of their natural forms, the Changelings are; Humanoid, hermaphroditic, egg laying, mammalian, possess pale white skin, solid black eyes, stand 5 to 6 feet tall, and have either an athletic, curvy, or thin body type. The two natural/true forms of the Changelings are the Mystic and Elven forms (Named for their respective societies.) These forms add additional features to the Changelings appearance. The Mystic form is the original, and purest form of the Changelings, it add feline features like; fur, tails, claws, pointed feline ears, sharp teeth, and catlike faces, to the Changelings. The Elven form is more human like, and only adds transparent hair and elven ears to the Changelings. The Elven form also has a unique ability that makes Changelings appear supernaturally beautiful to other humanoid races. A Changeling's default/preferred form is the form it likes to appear as most often, for some Changelings their true form and their preferred form are the same, while for other their preferred form is something completely unique. The Changelings reproductive system is somewhat unique, because they are hermaphrodites they can both sire children, and bear them, and despite being mammals, they can produce offspring with non-mammalian creatures, however, they must be in the form that is the same type as that creature. (EX. A Changeling would need to be a reptile in order to reproduce with a reptile.) Changelings ovulate and deliver their offspring by laying eggs in manner similar to birds. Fertilized eggs are green, while unfertilized eggs are blue. A Changeling egg is the same size as an Ostrich egg, and will hatch approximately 24 hours after being laid if fertile. The Changelings possess a number of natural abilities. As per the rules of multiverse, these abilities are all based in the thematic magic of the realm, and can be blocked or weakened. The first, and most prominent ability Changelings possess is shape-shifting, the Changelings shape-shifting operates by allowing an individual to consciously alter their anatomy at a cellular level. A Changeling obtains new DNA samples through both consumption and reproduction (Consumption is any kind of sampling an organism genetic info, things like kissing and taking a sample of someones blood is included in this.) They can use this DNA to edit their appearance, change, grow and remove individual features, alter their gender, height, weight, size, and even transform into different types of animals. Changeling shape-shifting is limited in that it can only mimic physical traits and abilities, and an individual can only shift into forms 5 times larger or smaller than themselves. Changelings also lack to ability to replicate DNA and aura, (Aura being the unique EM spectrum present in all living beings.), meaning that anyone capable of reading either of these things can possibly identify a Changeling. The second ability Changelings possess is aura perception. This ability allows Changelings to see the aura around people, giving them the ability to see through any disguise, and to consistently recognize anyone they've seen before. This ability is what also allows Changelings to identify each other, regardless of what form their in. The final ability the Changelings possess, is actually their combined physical abilities. Changelings are naturally fast, agile, and athletic, they are capable of incredible feats of movement on a regular basis, with only little training, their base strength allows them to lift up to 100 pounds with little effort, and their advanced cellular regeneration grants them eternal youth, rapid healing, limb regeneration, and a natural lifespan of up to 200 years. However, despite these incredible physical feats, Changelings still develop the same mentally as humans do (they need to learn and be taught something before they can do it.), and they would require the aid of either magic or technology in order to achieve a supernatural level of power. == Changelings: Society == The Changelings are divided into 3 different societies; Elven, Mystic, and Bestial. The societies all co-exist peacefully with each other on the Home World, and every Changeling is able to choose which society they wish to join. '''Elven:''' Despite being the second society developed by the Changelings, the Elven society is currently the largest, and most powerful society in Hivus. The Elven society is made up of Changelings who have embraced a modern way of life. Elven Changelings live above ground in urban and rural communities. They use both magic and technology in their daily lives and their overall way of living invokes themes from both high fantasy and retro sci-fi. The Elven society is governed by a meritocratic republic and organized into city-states, each city state is ruled by an elected governor and the republic itself is led by the council. The council is a group of 7 Changelings, each one in charge of a different aspect of Elven society, the councilors are elected from the smartest, strongest, most powerful, and most competent members of society, each one is elected for life but they can either leave by choice or be removed from power. '''Mystic:''' The Changeling Mystic society is the oldest, and second largest society in Hivus. The Mystic society is made up of Changelings who prefer to live like their ancient ancestors. The Mystic Changelings dwell underground in the crystal caverns their species originated from, their society is similar to that of Earth's ancient native Americans, they follow traditions, conduct tribal practices, and use only small amounts of primitive technology.The most advanced infrastructure the Mystic Changelings possess is stone. They've carved dozens of cities out of the walls and floors of Hivus's underground caverns, and built hundreds of villages out of tents and cave networks. Every Mystic Changeling settlement is lit by magic crystals, this excessive exposure to large numbers of crystals give Mystic changelings the highest magical affinity of any members of the species. The Mystic society is governed by a loose alliance of tribes, and each tribe is led by an elected chief. '''Bestial:''' The Changeling Bestial society is the smallest and least influential, It consist of Changelings who have decided to cast off the shackles of civilization, and live like animals. == Changelings: Culture == Changeling culture follows a single same golden rule, “Do what you want, but do no harm.” Changelings are allowed free reign over themselves so long as they follow the rules of society, use common sense, and don't hurt anyone. Changelings are allowed to freely use their shape-shifting abilities, some change forms as often as humans change clothes, while others prefer to stay in only one form and change only when necessary. Each society has a right of passage that a young Changeling needs to go on before they can choose to leave their home. These rights are year long journeys that send Changelings to new places, and put them in often dangerous situations that they're forced to conquer. Sexuality for the Changelings is pretty much a non-issue, they use male and female identifiers for themselves but aren't bound to them, relationships can be monogamous or polygamous, and nearly all non-harmful fetishes are allowed. Every society in Hivus has a strong interest in combat, many Changelings can be found regularly fighting each other for entertainment, training their skills in dangerous dungeons, exploring the world fighting monsters & looking for ancient artifacts, and engaging in fierce competitions that test both the mind and the body. This interest in combat has led to the development of incredible military and police forces in Hivus. == Equipment/Magical artifacts == Ancient, advanced technological devices built by the automatons and hidden across the Home World. The artifacts all fall under the categories of either; starships, cybernetic technology, biotechnology, or nanotechnology. == Automatons == The automatons are tall, bronze, self-replicating, magitek sentinels. They have conduct numerous jobs, such as; exploring the planet ahead of the Changelings, constructing dungeons, assisting in the defense of the realm & it's inhabitants, and occasionally helping Changelings with manual labor. The Automatons are constantly tracked so that they can be recalled, redirected or deactivated. == Magic == Magic in Hivus is powered by the arcane star at the center of the realm. A single exposure to the light from the star will grant any living being with arcane abilities. Additional exposure is not necessary, but it will increase the rate at which abilities develop, and their magnitude. When an individual gains magical abilities from the star, those abilities exist within them alone. A Changeling, for example, is capable of leaving Hivus and using their magical powers, but the longer it is away from the star's energy, the weaker their powers will become, however, if a Changeling is in possession of a magic crystal, they will be fully capable of using their powers. Magic is controlled through runes and spells, virtually all known forms of magic (Creation, manipulation, enchanting, etc.) are available to the Changelings.The most powerful mages are able to use magic without the need of runes, objects, or spells, they can create matter out of nothing, travel through time, remove the limits on their shape shifting, and make themselves immortal Spells are the easiest method to learn magic. Every magical effect know is recorded in recorded in a spell, to cast a spell, one simply has to say the spell aloud, and imagine it's effect or function. Magic spells are written in the Changeling runic alphabet Runes are an alternative method of using magic, all spells are written in runes, the runes themselves are easy to memories and pronounce, but drawing them can be very difficult for some people. Each rune is completely unique, but also very complex, and a magical effect will only work if the rune is drawn exactly as it is supposed to. This exactness does not apply to mentally imagined runes, only physical ones. Runes can be strung together to have different combined effects, and also used to enchant any object to give it magical abilities. (This is how the Changeling's magitek works.) Magical objects in Hivus are similar to those of almost every high fantasy realm. Objects like Staves and swords are enchanted with incredible arcane powers, spell books are filled with pages of runes and notes, Jewelry and clothing embroidered with magic crystals are common, and long flowing robes are the style of choice for mages == Technology == '''Elven Changelings''' The architecture in the cities of the Elven Changelings is inspired by art deco and modern styles from around the world. The combination of magitek and mid 20th century technology allows for the existence of towering skyscrapers and giant factories in a clean urban setting that relies on renewable energy. The Changeling capital is the largest city on the planet. Numerous bunkers & fortresses dot the Elven Changelings territory. They were constructed to help protect small towns and villages and also serve as temporary safe havens for travelers. The Elven Changelings use dieselpunk military technology, They have automatic and semi-automatic weapons, explosives, artillery, warships, planes, and tanks. Magitek also allows for the creation of mechs, lightning guns, jets, and physically impossible airships. Vehicles are an essential part of the society of Elven Changelings, but while boats, planes, trains and airships are all common, cars are a rare sight both in and out of cities. '''Mystic Changelings''' The Mystic Changelings have little in the way of advanced technology, and their overall technological resources are about equal to that of Earth's ancient native Americans. In fact, the most impressive technological achievements of the Mystic Changelings, are their cities carved from the stone of the caverns they live in, however, even though they don't use advanced technology, the Mystic Changelings are not opposed to it, and will quickly alter their technological needs when necessary. == Environment == '''Cosmic Adjustment''' A-type main sequence star with an Inexhaustible arcane core. '''Magical phenomena''' Magic crystals exist below the surface of Hivus and it's moons, these crystals are infused with the light and energy of the realm's star, and can be identified by their calm blue glow. The crystals work just like the star, a single exposure to one will grant an individual magical prowess, and continued exposure will improve the development of an individual's powers. The amount of energy a crystal emits is directly related to it's size, for example, a crystal the size of a palm or smaller will output the same energy people receive when exposed to the realm's star, but a crystal that is at least the size of a pumpkin will output energy twice that of the star. Also, despite the incredible amount of energy they release, the crystals are nearly inexhaustible, it would take over a hundred thousand years of use in completely different realm just for the charge in a small crystal to run out. The Changelings view the crystals as one of their most valuable resources, they're embroidered onto spell books and clothes, crafted into jewelry, and even used as fuel for certain magitek devices. Aside from the crystals, the Home World is able to rapidly regenerate it's soil and mineral resources, and the Metallic and Dark world's also have their own unique magical phenomena. '''Landscape''' See “Division of realm” '''Plants''' Modern & prehistoric plants from Earth, giant versions of modern Earth plants like strawberries, and sunflowers, and arcane plants for alchemical or agricultural use. '''Animals''' Modern wild animals are from Africa, Asia, and North America, sea life from both the Atlantic & Pacific oceans, supernatural creatures like gryphon & dragons, and no gnats, mosquitoes, flies, or other horrible/annoying insects. '''Malice''' The threat from the antagonistic forces in Hivus depends entirely on the amount of stagnation the realm is experiencing. If the realm is undergoing very little stagnation, then the antagonists will hold almost no threat, and be easily defeated or reformed. If the realm is undergoing very severe stagnation, then the antagonists will hold world altering levels of power, and be very difficult to defeat. '''Theme''' Science Fantasy. == Afterlife == The afterlife of Hivus is an endless aetherial realm that all denizens of Hivus pass on to in death. The afterlife can be molded by thought, and the stronger your will, the better you can affect the aether around you. The afterlife can be both beautiful and horrifying, it is a sentient realm designed to reflect the thoughts, emotions, and memories of the beings living in it. The inhabitants of the afterlife can choose to live either alone, or with their fellow mortal spirits, there is strength in numbers in this realm, and the more spirits you surround yourself with the better you'll be able to resist negative thoughts and emotions. Living people can access the afterlife through their dreams. == Spirits == Two types of spirits exist within this realm, Nature and Mortal. Mortal spirits are the spirits of the dead, they can manifest themselves as ghosts for short periods of time. Ghosts can take control of machines and co-inhabit the bodies of willing hosts. Nature spirits are the spirits of animals and plants, they can easily manifest themselves as centaurs, elves, nymphs, fairies, and anthropomorphic animals. Nature spirits are eternally young, potentially immortal, and possess ancient knowledge of Hivus. A nature spirit can be anything from a chaotic trickster to an orderly guardian.
