dnd-stub NeedsImages Moon Dragons are one of the four breeds of dragon who are naturally able to traverse the Phlogiston and thus are found in Wildspace, making them iconic to the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Spelljammer. Of the four "Cosmic Dragons" of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (no, they were never formally named that, but c'mon, you know TSR would have done it if they thought about it), Moon Dragons are the Always Chaotic Evil one - well, technically. They actualy change their Ethical Alignment between Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic over the course of a 30 day cycle. This is tied to their scale color, which also changes over a 30 day cycle; starting out as brilliant white and Lawful Evil, a moon dragon's scales start to turn black starting from its left side, until eventually it becomes solid black and Chaotic Evil. Then it repeats the cycle in reverse, changing from black to white starting on its left side. When in its "half moon" coloration, it's Neutral Evil. Weirdly, Moon Dragons are at the pinnacle of their strength when in their "no moon" coloration, devolving to half-strength in "half moon" and quarter-strength in "full moon". Outside of this funky color changing thing, moon dragons are largely characterized by their sheer arrogance and elitism - and for those to be notable for a dragon, you know they gotta be uppity douches - and their obsession with themes of the moon and the duality of light and darkness. A moon dragon's hoard will always be made up of a mixture of pure white and pure black gemstones, as well as any valuable that is named or styled after the moon, even if it's just moon-named or themed coins. As you might expect, they are bitter enemies of Sun Dragons. Moon dragons breath "black frost", which is like a regular icy dragon breath, except it solidifies around its victims and encases them in an icy prison, where they can quickly suffocate. Also, when a moon dragon is in its pure white phase, any therianthrope that gets too close is immediately both shifted into wereform and compelled to obey it as if Charmed (and we mean old-school Charmed).
