The '''Piasa Bird''' is a figure from Native American mythology that was famously represented in a mural (along with a modern recreation of said mural) along the Mississippi River in Alton, Illinois. They are an offshoot of the [[Wikipedia:underwater panther|Underwater Panther]] found in the mythology of many Northern Midwestern Native American mythologies. In modern times they have been described as a North American dragon or feathered serpent/beast similar to [[Quetzalcoatl]] of Mesoamerica.
