Heresy The Red Hand were the elite of the World Eaters Destroyer Squads during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. They wore black and red armor with red handprint markings, making them look like an even more crazy and grimdark version of the Uruk-hai from LotR. ==Overview== Only those World Eaters who bore the Blood Hand on their power armour could earn the right to join the Red Hand Destroyers. This mark was earned by those who had demonstrated exemplary RAEG or RIP AND TEAR in the name of <s>Khorne</s> their Legion. In battle, the Red Hand were consistently in the World Eaters' vanguard, as they sought to prove themselves worthy of continuing to bear the Blood Hand. Because of their savagery and brutality, they frequently opened fire even if their fellow World Eaters would be caught in the blast. Thus the Red Hand were not drawn together through brotherhood or camaraderie, but instead through rivalry and enmity. They were equipped with jump packs and often carried Caedere weapons, the close-combat weapons Angron had introduced to the legion in reminiscence of the ritualistic gladiatorial weapons wielded by his lost brothers and sisters on Nuceria. These weapons were themselves echoes of the weapons wielded in the gladiatorial arenas of the ancient Romanii. As was typical for Destroyers, their power armour was blackened and heavily damaged by their weapons, though the legion's artificers ensured that the damage was mainly cosmetic. When they were grouped in squadrons, the Red Hand were individually referred to as Ravagers and were led by officers known as the Blood Bonded. Equipment-wise, the Red Hand were kitted out like most other Destroyer squads: Mark IV armour, dual bolt pistols, Rad Missile Launchers, and Rad Grenades. Since they were still World Eaters who loved a bit of RIP AND TEAR, they also often wielded the traditional Bolt Pistol and Chainsword/Chainaxe combo. Others opted for more specialised melee equipment such as a Thunder Hammer, Power Sword or even Caedere Weapons such as Excoriator Chainaxes, as well as Meteor Hammers, Barb-Hook Lashes or paired Falax Blades. ==Crunch== Crunchwise, these are your merry band of pissed-off Destroyers that gain +1 to combat resolution and sweeping advances but are forced to charge the nearest enemies. These bastards are even harder to sell now since they can't even take a transport and can only buy Caedere Weapons at full cost. While they can buy a rad-missile launcher per 5 models, the bigger draw is the Thunder Hammer, as it lets them carry it and their spare pistol and chainsword so they aren't swamped by anything that might overpower them. Nevertheless, they must charge if there's an enemy unit with 12" when your Assault phase begins, and you are able to do so. Not really a problem considering you wanted to charge anyway, but you can take jump packs to avoid failed charges, both by jumping closer before you charge and getting a better movement modifier on the charge. World Eaters
