Sartosa is the Sicily of the [[Old World|Old World]] as [[Tilea|Tilea]] is to Italy, geographically speaking. In-universe, it's actually [[Pirate|pirate]] heaven and is primarily inhabited by Norscans and Tileans, although you can also find Dwarfs and Undead here.
==History==
Officially known as "The Principality of Sartosa," the island has a wild history spanning almost 4000 years. After the [[High Elf (Warhammer Fantasy Battle)|High Elves]] were kicked out from Sartosa during the [[War of the Beard]], Tilean humans settled there. Several centuries later city was taken over by [[Neferata]], but not for long, as she was forced to flee by the combined forces of [[Settra the Imperishable]] and [[Khalida]]. It was the glorious King of Khemri who completely destroyed the first city of Sartosa and made it a wasteland for a while.

This wasn't the end, however, as [[Norsca|norscans]] soon arrived (just like [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_conquest_of_southern_Italy in real life]) and started to raid the shit out of Tilea. In a surprising turn of events, however, the two at first antagonistic nations allied in order to destroy the other threats in form of [[Dark Elves (Warhammer Fantasy Battle)|Dark Elf]] and [[Araby|Arabyan]] corsairs. The latter eventually managed to prevail and conquer Sartosa for a while during the Crusades (again, like [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emirate_of_Sicily in real life]), but were eventually repelled by the previous owners.

==Geography==
Sartosa has a surprisingly varied landscape. From rugged coasts to its volcano, Sartosa has nearly everything you'd expect for a place inhabited by pirates. Overall, the land is pretty fertile and can support all of the cities and their masters.
