stub NeedsImages ThunderCats is an old-school mid-80s Science Fantasy cartoon published by Rankin-Bass productions. Like it's oft-forgotten sibling, Silverhawks, it is a spiritual successor to Filmation's 60s Sci-Fantasy cartoons like He-Man and She-Ra, being a gloriously silly, action-packed show about a band of alien catfolk struggling to survive on the far-distant, post-apocalyptic ruins of Earth, in a land where science and sorcery meet, mingle and clash. Basically Thundarr the Barbarian, but with alien protagonists. ==Thundercats== Our heroes, the last survivors of the planet Thundera, a race of catfolk that hugely favor their human aspect over their feline aspect. Lion-O: Main hero. Literally a man-child, as he was a 10 year old whose stasis capsule malfunctioned, causing him to mature into a physical adult without gaining any actual maturity before they crashed on Third Earth. Tygra: Most wise and mature member of the group. Panthro: Built like a brick shithouse and dual-wielding metal nunchucks. Cheetara: The sole female member of the group. Founded the infamous Cheetara Paradox: if you'll tap dat, you're a furry, but if not, you're gay. Wilykat & Wilykit: The youngest members of the Thundercats; male and female fraternal twins. ==Hostile Forces== Mutants: An alliance of space pirates from several other beastfolk races. Successfully destroyed Thundera, then followed the surviving Thundercats to Third Earth to finish the job. Mumm-Ra: Either a mummy wizard or a clerical lich. Spends most of his time skulking in a coffin. Can power-up into a more badass version of himself by invoking the Ancient Spirits of Evil, but the power boost doesn't last long. ==Remakes== Like He-Man, there was a more serious, mature and continuity-heavy reimagination of the series in the early 2010s. Unfortunately, it didn't catch on for some reason. Due to unpopular decisions to the show by one fanatic showrunner. There was also a grimdarky sequel comic to the original that was derided by fans. Then in the late 2010s there was ThunderCats Roar, which is basically to Thundercats fans what Teen Titans Go is to Teen Titans fans. Avoid at all costs. Luckily it was canceled after one season, because trying to make a make a reboot of a cartoon while aiming at really young children when most of the fandom for the original are adults is a stupid idea.
