'''Torquemada Coteaz''' is an [[Inquisitor]] Lord of the [[Ordo Malleus]]. He is famous for his zeal as well as his belief that, to be able to better battle the enemies of the Imperium, one must be able to ''command'' the vast resources and personnel required to do so.

==Biography==

Not a lot is known of his early life, or how he joined the Inquisition in the first place. He first rose to prominence during the '''Conclave of Varoth''', where his brazen but ultimately well-founded castigation of fellow Inquisitor (and his teacher) Laredian gave him the title of the '''High Protector of Formosa''', and all the power and influence over the eponymous sector that entailed. He has tirelessly pursued the forces of the Great Enemy since then, and has purged Chaos cults and other threats to the sector and further afield.

Alas he is growing old, and is worried that for all his success, without a clear or worthy successor, all of his work will be for naught. Recently he has been discreetly pursuing research into cloning and other life-extending methods, but has stopped short of consorting with warpcraft to do so, as he knows that road leads straight to damnation.

During the [[13th Black Crusade]], he was seen leading a strike force of [[Grey Knights]] in the Agripinaa sector, as well battling Chaos forces at Kasr Holn and Xersia. Post the 13th Black Crusade, however, the setting ended up taking a dive into the [[Arks of Omen]] series, and all the [[Vashtorr|whacky]] [[Angron|things]] that came with [[Lion El'Jonson|that]]. And, while Coteaz wasn't seen for any of the series up until the end, it seems that he, like [[Inquisitor Greyfax]], seems to have his hands full with his own [[primarch]]. You see, when Vashtorr the Arkifane waged his crusade to find the different key fragments for his super weapon to invade the [[Webway]], he and [[Abaddon]] ended up bringing the mach-daddy Lord of the First, Lion El'Jonson, back to the setting to kick ass and chew bubblegum. But, when the Lion ''did'' return, he didn't come back alone, and brought with him a squad of newly appointed [[Fallen|Risen]], who looked suspiciously like marines that the Dark Angels have been hunting for ever since the end of the Horus Heresy. ANd so, when the Lion came strolling back in with these Heresy-era marines behind him, some people got suspicious, and Coteaz was chief amongst them. As stated in the end of the last book of the Arks of Omen, Coteaz activated all of his assets to investigate the true nature of the Lion and his coterie of marines, and so seems to be putting himself in the way of the one primarch who won't abide anyone tampering with his missions. Hopefully we see the two cross paths proper, as that would be sick as shit.

He's obviously named after Tomás de Torquemada, a Grand Inquisitor of the [[Spanish Inquisition]]. Like Coteaz, Tomás was a really zealous sumbitch and Tomás's reign eventually led to complaints to the Pope over his cruelty; there are indications he was a bit too powerful to just reprimand. In spite of this, his organization wrote down enough for them to have still gone down (well, in eyes of actual law historians at least) as a pretty-decent-start to fair legal procedures compared to the countless probably-arbitrary legal judgements made by secular courts all over the world in history beforehand, so as bad as he might have been, the [[Spanish Inquisition]] toned down the [[Lawful Stupid]] immensely in their 356 years of service.

==On the Tabletop==

Inquisitor Coteaz is equipped with Artificer Armor, a Bolt Pistol, a master-crafted Nemesis Daemon Hammer, and a Psyber Eagle. He is also a Psyker, and is capable of using Smite plus an additional power from the Telesthesia discipline.
