Urskans are a race of humanoid polar bears native to the Blacktoe Glacier region in the far north of Anchorome, the North America analogue of the Forgotten Realms. Despite the similarities, they are not intended to be a rip-off of the Ursoi from Dragonlance... instead, they're a ripoff of the panserbjorne race from His Dark Materials. A proud and warlike people, urskans favor the use of heavy armor and two-headed weapons, such as mauls, which is by preference crafted from the magical blue ice of their homeland - this enchanted ice is imbued with elemental magic, which prevents it from freezing except at literally steel-melting temperatures. Of course, it's deadly to handle unlesss you're naturally resistant to the cold, but that's no problem for urskans. Their culture revolves around reverence for brute physical strength and a complex code of honor that basically boils down to "brawn is superior to brain" - it doesn't matter that a wizard or a warlock can annihilate entire armies with a wave of their hand, to an urskan, that's cheating. Even ranged weaponry is regarded with disdain. In Blacktoe Glacier, the urskans once held a large kingdom, with a central monarch (determined by martial prowess, naturally) ruling over scattered nomadic tribes. However, this kingdom fell after a famine caused by an increase in the presence of shatjans - fey guardians of reindeer and caribou herds; they attempted to stave off starvation by turning on the newly settled Snow Elves as food, but many regarded this as dishonorable - plus, the elves did not take kindly to being treated as bear chow and proceeded to show them all the disadvantages of picking a fight with a race of powerful magic-users. When the king (or "Brrarum", in their tongue) sold his soul to a dark entity that turned the royal court and his most loyal supporters into soul-eating undead monsters, and the snow elves unleashed Cryonax and his armies of icy elementals on the demoralized, starving bearfolk, well, that basically shattered the urskans as a collective nation. Now they live as clans and tribes, struggling to rebuild from the devastation, clinging to a prophecy that one day a new brrarum will arise to destroy the makurskan (the undead urskan) and rebuild their kingdom. ==PC Stats== ::Ability Score Increase: +2 Strength, +1 Constitution ::Size: Large ::Speed: 30 feet ::Bear Sprint: If your hands are empty, you can sprint along on all fours, increasing your speed to 40 feet. ::Keen Smell: Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks based on scent. ::Surefooted: Ignore difficult terrain caused by snow or ice. ::Cold Resistance ::Natural Weaponry: You can use both a Claw attack (1d 6 Slashing) and a Bite attack (1d4 Piercing). ::Urskan Martial Training: Proficiency with Breastplate, Half Plate, Chain Mail, Plate Armor, Maul and Warhammer. ::Great Stamina: You reduce the effects of Exhaustion by 1 level, and only die if you reach Exhaustion Level 7.
