The trees grew a naturally-occurring fruit named "Prara" that contained the majority of the nutrients an average human required to survive. It was sweet to taste without containing much in the way of sugars. The fruit had a calming effect that placated those who ate it, and so war was utterly unknown in Cendra - most living out their lives in a state of drug-induced stupour.
