	Like it or not, Critical Role is also '''the''' most visible fanmade content for D&D 5E (yknow, in spite of their Pathfinder origins), so when the [[Open Game License\|1.1 OGL/OneD&D]] controversy happened, normies looked to CR to see what their stance was, which turned out to be ambiguous, fence-sitting bullshit. Of course, the [[Neckbeard\|cynical]] among us already knew that WotC already had an established, balls-deep collaboration with Mercer and co, so they were guaranteed to get special treatment. The original 1.1 draft included language that basically let WotC negotiate more forgiving IP and Royalty rights with large-enough entities, so CR was never in any danger of losing their privileged status, being an established brand that's already been integrated into WotC.

	[[Skub\|This went over as well as you'd expect]]: the hypocrisy of a homebrewer that got big and received special treatment essentially going "no comment" at the expense of all their fellow third party/homebrew content makers revealed how inorganic and corporate CR really was. CR's most insufferable fans tried to defend CR, coping by saying CR's hands are tied due to "Non-Disclosure agreements!!!!". But losing all ability to think for yourself and have your own opinions is literally what happens when you sell your soul and creativity to a corporation, showing CR's fanbase is more dedicated to Mercer and Co than the actual game itself.
