The '''Cryptic''' is another of DreamScarred Press' attempts at making original [[psionics|psionic]] classes. In this case, the Cryptic works as the skill-monkey [[Rogue]], where the [[Soulknife]] works as more of the assassin. Though they don't start off with a shit-ton of skills like a Rogue, being an Intelligence-dependent manifester does enable them a decent number of skill ranks to rely on and a class feature makes sure stealth is never an issue. For some reason, their powers are also all in the form of tattoos and they're really good at making traps - if you even bother with those rules.

The Cryptic has a couple different mechanics to work with, each with various levels of effectiveness. Chief among them is "Disrupt Pattern", a psionic laser that requires them to dedicate their psychic focus towards a certain type of enemy (and unlike other classes like [[Rangers]], this preferred enemy isn't dependent on subtype either) as a touch attack. Defensive Pattern is a lesser feature that gives them a couple turns to use on a specific bonus: the ability to hit enemies who hit you, extra AC, or damage resistance - none of them are in grand quantities, but could save the day a bit. Their last feature is the Insights, a large pool of talents with various applications from disrupt debuffs to trap specialties and special skill perks. Unfortunately, they lack any access to the full Rogue talent list.

==Archetypes==
There aren't a great many archetypes for the Cryptic, considering how few psionic supplements there are. That is not to say that the ones that exist are bad, however.
*Brutal Disruptor is probably one of the most used, considering how it enables Disrupt Pattern to be used as part of a melee attack and only sacrifices traps, a welcome offering.
*Distorter sacrifices tattoos and a few insights to become a pro illusionist and mindfucker by screwing with distance perception. They can also give a permanent zone of silence for best sneaking.
*Pattern Breaker sacrifices stealth to break enchantments and locks.
