On top of that, to contrast with said badass attitude in battle, for a large portion of the novel he's whiny about the fact he's (as he sees it) been left behind to fight for a doomed hive city by his Chapter. He eventually realizes that, more than defending a physical objective, it is to keep the spirits of the Imperial defenders up that he is there. Which is, after all, the core job of a Chaplain. And if anything else, Grimaldus is pretty damn fucking good at his job!
