			The Thunderbolt-class Heavy Frigate was an old class of Imperial Navy Escort. It was used by the Imperial Army's Imperialis Armada and Legiones Astartes during the [[Great Crusade]] and [[Horus Heresy]].

			More of a torpedo boat than an actual destroyer, these vessels were built for speed and intended to deliver a large payload of [[Torpedo\|Torpedoes]] to the enemy and outrun any guns which might answer. They also proved adept at hunting down fleeing foes.

			Like all things coming from early 40k tabletop, the Thunderbolt has a unique design. Rather than the iconic flying cathedrals and armoured prow, the Thunderbolt features a sleek, arrowhead design and enlarged engines. This could be a reason why the Thunderbolt was noted to be blistering fast despite being heavily armoured.

Escorts are the cheapest ships available, and there's no limit to how many Escorts can be included in a fleet list. Escorts work better as part of a Squadron however, so bring them in pairs or in threes.
