Also, realistically speaking, they probably would have a high rate of fire for their battle cannons for the same reason as artillery does. It is far easier to load a cannon that you only need to turn a little left or a little right to load instead of a turret facing god-knows which way. Same for storing and accessing ammunition for the cannon.
