	Your typical guy in the State Regiments starts out as the son of a peasant or a carpenter, mason, porter or nightsoil man. As he comes into manhood he ends up joining the army. It might be because his family has a tradition of service or he might want to do his part to keep the Goatmen from burning down anyone else's farm, had heard stories of glory and victory and had fantasies of an "insert name here" variety, figured that fighting for Emperor and Empire is better than shoveling shit in Stirland, thinks the ladies love a man in armor, thinks the pay will help him set up his own household or some other reason. Others might get conscripted or are told to serve Sigmar to pardon some past sins. Regardless they get their poofy pants, breastplates and helmets and for the next few months get drilled and yelled at by sergeants until they can march, fight and hold the line reasonably well along with the various other tasks required to be a Soldier. Not a Warrior, but a Soldier. The distinction is important, because they are part of a formalized regimented army. Then they spend the next few years living in barracks, drilling, doing odd jobs that require a lot of strong backs for the local [[Elector Count]] and fighting. When battle comes, each man has a role and to carry out (handgunner, halberdier, artilleryman, etc) and they are supposed to work in synergy. Many of them are discharged once the immediate crisis ends, a few stick on and can rise through the ranks.
