When we first heard of the defeat of the Emperors Angels of Death, the rumor mongers were shot. Who could possibly wipe out that many members of the glorious Adeptus Astartes, especially from the very middle of a normally peaceful sector. When we first lost contact with the Astropath-Transcendants in the area around Ti'Anxia, we became worried, what could possibly silence those who had basked in the Glorious Light of the Emperor? and then, when we First heard that we were to be sent to Ti'Anxia, we rejoiced. Accompanied by the hulking, power armored forms of Space Marines hungry for vengeance against their fallen Brothers. We were fools.

We arrived at a planet that could have been undisturbed for millennia, if not for the mounds of corpses, Guardman and Astartes alike, left where they had fallen. Until the very ground began to rise and shining metal forms, cloaked in the rotting skin of the vanquished tore into our rank. Until the image of green lighting stripping the flesh from the captains face was Imprinted into my Mind forever.

And yet, despite our losses, the Marines pressed forward. Extorting us onwards, towards the crest of the Hill where an imposing, gleaming metal form stood. arm outstretched as he mutely directed his shambling forces in their almost drunken dance of death. The screech of metal and the screams of men loud in my ears and we fought tooth and nail, Hellgun and Bolter up the shallow incline. Determined to cut the head off this foul, metallic invader. The Desiccator of the Emperors finest.

We were so close, when the end came. The gigantic metal pyramids appearing with a cataclysmic boom and a wave of overpressure that staggered the few of us still surviving. The horrific bolts of green lighting spewing from the multi-barreled cannons of the blank faced skeletons marching up behind us.

And the gleam in the cold, soulless eyes of the second gold plated figure, one that could almost have been mistaken as satisfaction of a well executed plan coming to fruition as the last pockets of resistance were mercilessly crushed.

We were Fools. We paid the Ultimate Price.
