There are also regional variants of the game: the Vikings spread it as far as Ukraine. In Scandinavia it was hnefatafl, in Wales it was Tawlbwrrd, and the English went all out with Alea Evangelii. They largely have the same rules due to the fact that they weren’t preserved really well and had to be rebuilt based off what remained. The main differences are in board size.
