Crawling Claws are one of the odder undead monsters in Dungeons & Dragons, consisting of... well, they're a severed human(oid) hand that has been animated by a necromancer who either was really drunk, had very little to work with, or just had a peculiar sense of humor. Whilst it's possible that they were inspired by Ash's Deadite-possessed hand from Evil Dead II, there are actually older horror stories. Anyway, they've been around a long time.

A known variant is the more deadly Flying Fingers, which is capable of levitation and some limited degree of spellcasting.

Possibly inspired by Guy design Maupassant's story "The Hand".
