Flying Polyps (also referred to as the Polypous Ones or the Polypous Race) are a species of alien beings from the Cthulhu Mythos written by H.P. Lovecraft. Often depicted as a sort of semi-fungal mass of flesh studded with eyes (despite it being mentioned that they lacked the sense of sight), mouths and tentacles, flying polyps have the innate ability to fly and manipulate the wind in the form of pseudo-telekinesis. Befitting the eldritch abominations that they are, their bodies can also phase in and out of material existence due to their utterly bizarre physiology. Introduced in The Shadow Out Of Time, they warred with the Great Race of Yith for dominion over Earth in its ancient pre-history, but lost and were sealed away in their subterranean cities.
Flying Polyps have appeared in the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG and Pathfinder.
