In tabletop games overcosted is a term used to refer to assets that are too difficult to deploy for the value they provide. Intentionally contrasted with "overpriced", which generally refers to the item's actual monetary price (though the two frequently overlap).
Examples of Overcosted Things[edit | edit source]
- Carnifexes in 5th ed.
- Any Magic card released in the Legends block that didn't utterly break the game..
- Every single super-special-costs-more-than-an--SM-land-raider unit-in Warhammer 40,000.
- 6th ed Fully kitted out Vanguard Veterans. Giving a five man squad power weapons and jump packs brings them up to just below Terminator price,
- Dark Angels' Nephilim Jetfighter exemplifies this concept. Cost more than it has a right to, survivability is fine, but not enough shots per turn.
- Khador's Man-O-Wars. As if being the worst heavy infantry in all of WarmaHordes wasn't bad enough, to top it off they're also overpointed.
- The vast majority of Ork units.
- Lord Kroak. Just Lord Kroak.
- Nagash in Age of Sigmar 3rd edition.
