The Piasa Bird is a figure from Native American mythology that was famously represented in a mural (along with a modern recreation of said mural) along the Mississippi River in Alton, Illinois. They are an offshoot of the Underwater Panther found in the mythology of many Northern Midwestern Native American mythologies. In modern times they have been described as a North American dragon or feathered serpent/beast similar to Quetzalcoatl of Mesoamerica.
