"You lack aesthetic, you miserable thing. No, do not argue! You can't sing, you can't dance! I shall write a play of you, you hideous simpleton, so I may understand why you bother to draw breath!"

– Lancquasso the Playwright

The Sublime Ensemble is a bunch of faggots wandering Slaaneshi warband in the Age of Sigmar universe. It was created by some chucklenuts on /tg/ to finally have an excuse to buy some Slaanesh minis and convert them to a theater theme.

Summary[edit | edit source]

The Sublime Ensemble is a wandering Slaaneshi warband, led by the Chaos Lord Lancquasso the Playwright. Before the disappearance of Slaanesh, the group served as the private theater troupe of a Keeper of Secrets called the Genesian. Having spent millennia in the Realm of Chaos, they have only recently emerged to roam the mortal realms to search for their god. Lancquasso is desperate to find Slaanesh as he believes his skill to write exquisite plays is slowly leaving him unless the Dark Prince is returned to his/her/its throne.

Dramatis Personae[edit | edit source]

Lancquasso the Playwright
The Sublime Ensemble is led by the Chaos Lord Lancquasso. In the ages past, in the world-that-was, he was a son of a noble and a great playwright. He sold the entirety of his existence to Slaanesh out of a desire to have the skill to write the greatest play imaginable, one that would put the dance of the cosmos itself to shame. While he was an undoubtedly skilled playwright, since his fall his plays have turned to depraved displays of debauchery and decadence, much to the satisfaction of the Genesian.

Lancquasso is utterly obsessed with putting on a show, even in the midst of battle he will stop to jot down a scene or to wallow in despair if he feels his fighting is not artistic enough. He is an excellent dancer and actor, moving fluidly through battle and dodging blows that would render a regular man to a bloody pulp. At the same time, however, he is as self-absorbed as only a Slaaneshi lord can be, and cares for little else than writing plays and the glorification of his literary genius.

Dahlia
The prima donna of the Sublime Ensemble and Lancquasso’s muse. Lancquasso gave Dahlia her stage name after he found her beauty as delicate as that of his favorite flower. Her true name and appearance are unknown to everyone but Lancquasso, who withholds the information from her in order to keep her in his power.

Dahlia hides her face behind a golden mask that comes off only when she’s performing in on one of her master’s plays. Her features are different each time, remade to suit the role she’s playing, yet without exception she always possesses an unearthly beauty and her singing enthralls the souls of all who hear it. Despite having two pairs of slender arms and a daemonic aura surrounding her, there are rumors that she was in fact once human. Whether this is true or not, Dahlia and Lancquasso alone know.

The Genesian
A Keeper of Secrets and Lancquasso’s daemonic patron. The Genesian was attracted to Lancquasso already while the playwright was still mortal. After Lancquasso wandered off in search of divine inspiration, the Genesian invited him to its palace and asked him to write a play that could make him laugh and cry, love and hate, and feel happiness and sadness, all at once. Against both of their expectations, Lancquasso succeeded in his task after being inspired by the new experiences available to him at the palace. The Genesian, squealing with delight, offered Lancquasso an eternity in its Silver Theater to perfect his art if his “sublime ensemble” would in return continue to entertain the daemon with such exquisite plays.

Though it may assume nearly any form it wishes, the Genesian often appears as a very tall, black-skinned young male with a head of literally golden hair. The daemon is often seen carrying the Caress of the Genesian, a massive daemonic blade that some of its entourage whisper to hold a large part of their master's very essence.

Tania
Lancquasso’s assistant and the costumier of the Sublime Ensemble. She is responsible for dressing the actors, painting their faces, and leading the construction of props and set pieces to Lancquasso’s exact specifications. Despite the playwright’s seemingly impossible demands, Tania has not failed once.

Once a beauty in her own right, Tania had her body twisted and mutated by an eternity spent in the realm of chaos. Her legs have been stretched and fused together, replaced by a scaly and serpentine lower torso. Tania is also hopelessly enamored with Lancquasso and loathes Dahlia for her position at Lancquasso’s side, where Tania feels she should by the rights be. This, and the distortion of her physique, have made Tania bitter and cruel. Her assistants make sure to cater to her slightest whims, for those who get on her bad side are known to quickly disappear.

On The Tabletop[edit | edit source]

The Sublime Ensemble uses little ranged support. Instead, it rushes quickly into melee, aiming to overwhelm its opponents with fast shock assaults before they have the chance to retaliate.
