DPS stands for Damage per Second.
The term is most often applied to video games where damage is consistently or automatically dealt over a set number of seconds (e.g. World of Warcraft) although DPS can be extrapolated to represent how much average damage something can do in a given set of time, even in a turn-based roleplay setting.
