Purple Worms are one of the most lasting, yet simple, monsters to be found in the history of Dungeons & Dragons. Really, their name says it all; they're giant worms that prey on smaller animals, which is virtually everything, and spend most of their time chewing their way through the Underdark. They are also, of course, purple, which is a rather good color for a worm, especially a worm that is purple.
